A popular fixture in the race calendar now in its 40th anniversary year, The Half Marathon and 5K Fun Run now organised by Good Running Events, returns on Sunday 16 October. It will see leading club athletes and charity fun runners race through the streets of Peterborough. Stamford based charity Anna’s Hope, which supports children and young people with brain tumours, will be the partner for the 5K Fun Run. Co-founder of Anna’s Hope, Carole Hughes, is hoping local schools will support them. 'Over the years Anna’s Hope has been proud to support the 5K Fun Run and we are looking forward once again to welcoming runners from the local community including families, friends, schools, clubs and local businesses to challenge themselves, have fun and if they can, raise funds for charities and good causes.' The Fun Run is ideal for families and school groups to take part in with many choosing to don fancy dress or fairy wings for Anna’s Hope, the charity’s emblem. Children must be aged 4 years or older to join the 5K Fun Run (all children aged 8 and under must be accompanied by an adult) and it’s £10.90 for a child to enter. The event has partnered with Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice and there are race places available for runners who would like to be part of Team Sue Ryder, but there’s the chance to raise funds for other charities too. Entrants must be aged 17 and over and it’s £35 for unaffiliated runners. Whether you’re new to the event or a seasoned runner seeking a personal best, the fast, flat route on closed roads is perfect. Organisers expect to see more runners than ever before take part with thousands racing and thousands more lining the streets to cheer them on. The event will kick off at the Embankment with the Anna’s Hope 5K Fun Run, before the Wheelchair Half Marathon and Half Marathon.

Entries are now open for all distances within the Great Eastern Run on 16 October – and runners can register via www.greateasternrun.co.uk
