Royalty at Brington
Pupils, pigs and an electric car greeted a royal visitor to a Huntingdonshire school recently.

Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Gloucester visited Brington C of E Primary School to celebrate the school's half century, seeing what life is like inside and outside the classroom for the pupils. The visit had been delayed due to the pandemic but The Duchess finally got to tour the school and see Brington's older children driving an electric car constructed by the school for their science project. The school pigs, Pansy and Peaches, were introduced as The Duchess heard about how they were looked after by the younger pupils as part of the school's farming topic. The children also asked Her Royal Highness to plant a commemorative tree in the Forest School area. ‘It's been a really special day and The Duchess was so nice. We'll take really good care of this tree,’ said Katie, aged 6. The visit also included dropping in on a ukulele lesson, meeting children, their teachers and a tour of the school.
Northborough School Scoops Eco Awards
Green minded pupils at Northborough Primary School have won two environmental awards for their eco projects.
They have been working with PECT (Peterborough Environment City Trust) to develop their outdoor space and were invited to the PECT ECO Awards. Students have been creating a nature corridor across their field by planting 180 trees, making bird and bat boxes for their extensive orchard area and have even been growing produce to eat with their lunch. They continue to focus on sustainability and finding ways to make sure they’re doing all they can to support the environment. Six of their Planet Protectors, pupils Amelie, Ayla, Megan, Emma, Elicia and Grace all went along to the awards. Their efforts were rewarded with the Sponsors’ Award for their work in school, and the Host's Award for the enthusiasm of the children who attended. Children at Northborough have also been busy with the Foundation Class holding their annual Ugly Bug Ball. They enjoyed the same feast as The Very Hungry Caterpillar and released butterflies they’ve raised in class. Year 1 had a Superhero day dressing in some incredible outfits, while Year 2 had a visit from the Raptor Foundation in conjunction with their topic about nocturnal animals.

Soldiers and Superheroes
Dive into history at Cromwell Museum: Looking for a fun and educational trip?
The Cromwell Museum offers a fascinating look at the life and legacy of Oliver Cromwell through online and in-person workshops. Children will love trying on armour and weaponry to become a civil war soldier while discovering how Cromwell rose from humble origins in Huntingdonshire to shape our history. There’s a range of activities including on-site workshops to see items that Cromwell himself had and used in his life. There are also virtual workshops which bring the Museum to your own classroom whenever you like, without the hassle and cost of a coach trip. Loan boxes allow pupils to see real and replica pieces of history in the classroom. They include fun activities based around the curriculum with a hands-on approach to learning and can be booked with an online session to make lessons more exciting. As Cromwell was born in Huntingdon and lived in St. Ives and Ely, a visit to the Museum is perfect for a local history study. Choose a session about Cromwell, the causes of the civil wars, life in the 17th century, or the history of democracy in the UK.
