Saturday Fest

Advertorial

Saturday just became a little bit more interesting thanks to Jumeirah at Etihad Towers’ new addition, Saturday Fest. The latest weekend offering from the talented culinary team at Jumeirah at Etihad Towers will take place every Saturday at Nahaam, from 6.00pm to 9.00pm. With temperatures finally having cooled down, what better place to enjoy a lazy Saturday evening than on Nahaam’s terrace overlooking the softly lit infinity pool, with a clear night’s sky and a soft breeze, all to the backdrop of smooth tunes from the live three-piece band. With the smoker fired up, the charcoal grill fired up and the chefs fired up, you can expect to experience a Saturday feast unlike any other. On the open-air deck the air is filled with the scent of succulent grills being prepared to perfection. The meat smoker, unique to Jumeirah at Etihad Towers, slow cooks premium cuts for up to 16 hours, ensuring the most tender tasting meats in town. You can choose from a selection of mouth-watering options, from southern smoked Beef Brisket, Striploin, Flank or craft Burgers served with homemade smoked sauces. Alternativity opt for the wide selection of fresh seafood ranging from Tiger Prawns, King Fish, Nile Perch Fillet, Seabream to Calamari. Everything is grilled to order allowing you to season your dish how you wish. Little ones will enjoy their own dedicated food station featuring Hot Dogs, Fish and Chips, Sliders, Nuggets and more. Enjoy a selection of freshly prepared salads and warm breads from Marinated Seafood, Fennel, Tomato with Citrus and Celery Salad, Greek Salad, Thai Beef Salad to staples like Hummus and Muhammara or tuck into the tempting sides from Baked Macaroni, Grilled Corn to Roast Potatoes. Desserts will ensure that you end your evening on a sweet note from gooey Malva Pudding, soft mouth-watering Brownies, rich Red Velvet Cake and flaky Apple Crumble. Little ones will enjoy their own dessert selection from popcorn to lollypop sweet bites. Before starting another working week why not spend some quality family time and enjoy a lazy Saturday evening at Nahaam? The range of cuisine will ensure that there is something for everyone to enjoy. Don’t forget your swimming gear as the package also comes with pool access. Saturday Fest is available every Saturday from 6.00pm to 9.00pm. AED 195 per person with soft drinks. Inclusive of pool access. Asian Fusion Brunch At Sontaya

It’s a breezy Saturday afternoon as we make our way to Sontaya to experience their Asian Fusion Brunch. Sontaya is located at the opulent St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort and is set amongst a series of floating pavilions that overlook the turquoise waters of the Arabian Gulf. As we make our way to the restaurant we are surrounded by blue skies, crystal clear waters and a sense of tranquility. Sontaya boasts stunning views, in the cooler months guests can enjoy the outdoor terrace or request for the sliding doors be opened, allowing them to enjoy the fresh sea air. Although the temperatures are beginning to get cooler, we decide to sit indoors.

Moving on to the main course we enjoy the Poached Dory Fish, The Chefs Special Curry Beef Brisket, Wok Fried Chicken, Stir Fried Squid in Black Pepper and Sweet and Sour Prawns with a side of Curry Rice. The Poached Dory Fish in garlic, coriander, mushroom, ginger, white cabbage, carrot, chili, oyster gravy and fresh lime is our favorite, although the flavors are dynamic the fish keeps the dish light. We do enjoy The Chefs Special Curry although we do feel the Brisket is too heavy a protein for the Curry. Ending on a high, the Sontaya Village dessert gets our attention, Crème Brûlée, Choco Chili, Mango Sticky Rice, Coco Banana and Sorbet. The presentation is beautiful, and the dry-ice creates that wow moment.

Much to our satisfaction the Asian Fusion Brunch is served tableside, with a set menu featuring 5-courses of South-East Asian dishes. To kick start our culinary journey we begin with a selection of SouthEast Asian salads. The Papaya Salad is prepared fresh at our table, adding a sense of theatre. The Sea Bass Salad, Chicken Salad and Bun Ga Salad are all divine and the freshness is undoubtable. Don’t be tempted to reorder the salad as you’ll have a lot to get through later.

If you love Asian cuisine we would highly recommend the Asian Fusion Brunch at Sontaya. The service is exceedingly friendly, the cuisine is exceptional, and the setting is tranquil. We really appreciated the fact that the team were able to alternate meat dishes to vegetarian dishes. Another great aspect of the brunch is that you can also reorder dishes that you enjoy, although the brunch offering is so generous we doubt that you will have the space to eat more than one round of each course. Also, if you choose the AED The hot appetizer platter is served next and features Homemade 415 package you’ll get a complimentary pool and beach pass for the Duck Spring Roll, Vegetable Fritter, Prawn and Chicken Dumpling and day. a Chicken Lollipop. As I don’t eat meat the team kindly change a few dishes to vegetarian options, this is highly appreciated. Sontaya Asian Fusion Brunch, every Saturday from 1.00pm to 4.00pm. For the Soup of The Day guests can interact with chef at his cooking AED 290 per person inclusive of soft drinks. station and create their own tailormade soup, which is again a fun AED 415 per person inclusive of house beverages as well as beach and interactive feature of the brunch. and pool day pass. Friday Brunch At Giornotte

Friday brunch at Giornotte is quite the affair, guests are all immaculately presented in their best weekend attire. Crowds gather in the foyer to enjoy a welcome beverage before being shown to their tables. Giornotte brunch attracts a mixed crowd of groups of friends, couples and families. We are shown to our table which is just opposite the live duo, allowing us to enjoy the entertainment throughout our brunch. Shortly after being seated we are presented with the dramatic amuse-bouche, six small petit four on top of a dry ice feature makes for some great pictures. The brunch offers a selection of live cooking stations serving everything from Freshly Shucked Oysters, Pan-Fried Scallops to Pasta, Wagyu Beef, Sushi and Chinese Dumplings. To begin we enjoy the fresh salad and a few small plates of Pan Seared Scallop on Mango Chili Salsa, Tomato and Mozzarella with Pesto, Duck Rillettes, Thai Beef Salad, Beetroot Edamame Pomegranate and Dill Salad and Mango Sesame Shrimp Salad. The small plates are amazing, and the presentation is stunning it’s a pleasure to see that the team have put so much effort into the smallest of details. The fresh seafood is beautifully presented on a 3-meter-long bed of ice and we cannot help but enjoy some Lobster, Crab, Shrimps and Oysters. Next, we sample a few dishes from the Indian and Asian selection, we choose the Vegetarian Biryani, Dal Makhni and Dynamite Prawns again we are not disappointed. We then take a moment to relax and enjoy the band. If you haven’t visited Giornotte brunch in a while you will be sure to notice one big change, the brunch is now much more compact than before. Some of you

will remember the times when you needed a map (yes literally) to find your way round the brunch. Nowadays the entire Giornotte brunch is just focused in the main area of the restaurant. On the downside it does take away a little bit of the wow factor but on the plus side by making it more compact we are able to spend less time walking around the brunch and more time relaxing, plus the food quality has remained the same and I would even go as far as to say it has improved. After a leisurely break, we opt for the Veal Rack, Vegetables, Yorkshire Pudding and Gravy, and return to try the Whole Baked Salmon, all are equally as enjoyable as the next. To conclude our brunch, we make our way to the dessert room, as tempted as we are by the mountains of sweet treats we are feeling rather full, but wanting to end on a sweet note we unleash our inner child and opt for the candy floss. A wide selection of cheeses are also available and look delicious. Overall Giornotte remains one of the best brunches in the city for several reasons, its attentive service, wide variety of top-quality international cuisine and its ability to consistently deliver the standard it has become known for. These factors ensure that Giornotte remains one of the best places to brunch in the city. Prices start from AED 320 for brunch and soft beverage package, children 6 to 11 years old pay AED 90. Brunch is every Friday from 1.00pm to 4.00pm. Giornotte, The Ritz Carlton Abu Dhabi Grand Canal, 02 818 8282

The Big Brunch Eastern Mangroves Hotel And Spa By Anantara

Last Friday we added a bit of cha-cha-cha to our weekend at Eastern Mangroves Hotel and Spa by Anantara. The team have recently revamped a range of their culinary offerings, so when we were invited to experience their special salsa themed brunch we couldn’t resist the opportunity. The Big Brunch is held every Friday at Ingredients; the hotel’s restaurant which offers indoor and outdoor seating, plus spanning views across the tranquil mangroves. As we enter the brunch we are welcomed by Latino vibes and salsa dancers showing off their best moves on the dancefloor. The brunch offers a wide variety of tasty treats from Sushi, Roasts, Salads, Soups and speciality Thai dishes. To start we enjoy a Papaya Salad, California Sushi Rolls and Tom Yum Soup. The Papaya Salad offers just the right amount of spice and is the perfect start to our brunch. The California Sushi Rolls are exceptionally fresh as the culinary team are hand rolling them throughout the brunch, we do return to try some of the Nigiri which we can confirm is just as tasty. The Tom Yum soup is delicious, again full of flavour. What we are really thrilled to see is the Raman station, we can’t tell you how long we’ve been on the lookout for top quality Ramen. This is followed by a selection of Vegetable and Shrimp Tempura, Duck Rolls and a small helping of Pad Thai. The Thai dishes are the highlight of the brunch, being an Asian brand Eastern Mangroves Hotel and Spa by Anantara excels in this cuisine.

My dining companion being one of those people, spots chef creating fresh Risotto, the smell is too good to resist, for the Risotto guests have a choice of pumpkin, mushroom or cheese, the portion is large, and we share it between us. In the dessert section there is a wide variety of cakes which we can help ourselves to. The Chocolate Fountain is exceedingly yummy, we coat a selection of Marshmallows and Rice Crispy Cakes in the warm dripping chocolate. The Nougat Bar is unique, and we can’t say we’ve seen it at any of the other brunches. We are especially taken by the Matcha Tea Nougat. My dining companions love the selection of sweets and take the opportunity to fill their plates. Being more of a savoury person I head to the cheese section and enjoy the Gouda and Edam with Crackers and Fig Compote. What made the brunch great fun was the salsa group that kept the atmosphere vibrant throughout the day. The Thai food was exceptional, the service was friendly and the team accommodating. The Big Brunch takes place every Friday at Ingredients, Eastern Mangroves Hotel and Spa by Anantara. The salsa dancers will be available occasionally but not every Friday so if you are specifically interested in the dancing we recommend that you confirm with the hotel when the next salsa themed brunch will be held. Prices start from AED 276 including soft drinks. Eastern Mangroves Hotel and Spa by Anantara, 02 656 1000

If you’re not a fan of Asian cuisine don’t worry, the brunch has a diverse range of dishes to satisfy even the fussiest diner.

International restaurant and bar Stock Burger Co. opened its doors earlier this year at Holiday Inn Abu Dhabi. Since its inception Stock Burger Co. has established itself as a firm contender in Abu Dhabi’s Dining and Nightlife scene. Stock Burger Co. offers an appealing and unique mix of quality burgers and craft beverages. Burgers are made from 100% premium grass-fed beef and exclusively created and provided by Springbok Butchery, making the quality of the burgers second to none. We enter Stock Burger Co. through the hotel entrance and are warmly greeted by the team. Stock Burger Co. now also boasts its own private entrance, which is part of the newly launched terrace available for guests to enjoy. Its early Thursday evening and the atmosphere is already bustling as the venue is starting to fill up with patrons looking to start the weekend. We take a seat on the high tables near the bar. The décor at Stock Burger Co. is vibrant and energetic with back lit walls, painted oil barrels and hanging jars which act as light features. TV screens are dotted around the walls ensuring that everyone has a good view of the latest sport. To start we order Buffalo Wings, Savoury Flatbread, Panko Onion Rings, House-Slaw and Grilled Corn on the Cob. It’s a mix of starters and sides but we request it all comes together, the team are more than happy to accommodate. The Buffalo Wings are delicious, dripping in a spicy BBQ sauce they make for a finger licking good moment, plus, the portion is more than generous. The other dishes are enjoyable and typical of your traditional pub grub. My dining partner opts for The Stock Burger whilst I, being a vegetarian get to enjoy the Veggie Burger which comes in two options, Falafel or Grilled Portobello Mushroom. The burgers arrive, The Stock Burger is full of flavour, the thick beef patty is topped with cheese, garnished in red onion and dressed with Stock Burger Co. signature sauce. The Veggie Burger is ok, however because the falafel is slightly thin it does make it taste a little bit dry. Don’t miss the desserts, even if you feel full find just that little bit of room, it will be totally worth it, we’d recommend the Eton Mess.

Talise Spa Jumeirah At Etihad

Towers

Nestled away just opposite the hotel lobby a world of relaxation awaits you. Talise Spa offers guests luxurious surroundings, professional therapists and promises to leave your mind and body feeling rejuvenated. Talise Spa offers a variety of treatments to cater for all your needs from massages, body treatments, hammam to bath rituals. As we enter Talise Spa we are warmly greeted by the team, we take a seat in the welcome area where we fill in the pre-treatment questionnaire forms. Here our therapists also discuss what we can expect from our treatments. Talise Spa is very calming, the walkway to the treatment room sets the tone with candles and relaxing tones of ocean waves. We decide to try the 60-minute Ultimate Aromatherapy Massage treatment and the 60-minute 3D Collagen Shock Natura Bissé Facial. This facial will soon be available for guests to enjoy, but today we are fortunate enough to be amongst the first to experience this revolutionary new treatment. As we enter the treatment room we are surrounded by dimly lit candle lights and warm red and blue tones. The treatment room is spacious, large massage beds, a jacuzzi, a private changing area and a shower make the experience very exclusive and relaxing. We begin our treatment by having a refreshing foot scrub, rose petals are placed in the large bronze bowls and a blend of essential oils are used. For the massage my companion is asked which oils they would like, oil scents offered range from relaxing to invigorating. The therapists begins the 3D Collagen Shock Natura Bissé Facial treatment by removing any make-up I am wearing, then proceeds to cleanse and tone my entire face. Next the glycol peeling, this feels a little bit tingly on my face, the same sensation you would expect if you were using a mint face wash. However, the glycol peeling is excellent for your skin, as it is three times more powerful than normal exfoliators. The treatment continues with the essential shock facial concentrate 3D collagen, optimizer facial massage, pore minimizing mask, eye and lip cream, diamond white expertise SPF 50 and finishes with the sheer moisturizer. The treatment leaves my face feeling clean, refreshed and firm however although firm it does not feel tight. The clear benefits of the facial are, hydration and firming of skin, intense treatment for fine lines, skin protection and prevention from pre-mature skin ageing. The main ingredient of the 3D Collagen Shock Natura Bissé Facial treatment is green tea. Overall our experience at Talise Spa was wonderful. The therapists are warm, welcoming and professional, the range of treatments are exceptional, and we would highly recommend the new 3D Collagen Shock Natura Bissé Facial treatment. As a person who normally dislikes facials I found this one to be highly enjoyable and I must admit my skin was much firmer than before the treatment. It may not be the fountain of youth but it’s as close as I’ve managed to get. The 3D Collagen Shock Natura Bissé Facial 60-minute treatment launching soon at Jumeirah at Etihad Towers will be priced at AED 693 whilst a 60-minute Ultimate Aromatherapy Massage treatment is priced at AED 546.
