AIZA, Dubai’s Newest Greek-Mediterranean Restaurant
AIZA is a brand-new, homegrown, Greek-Mediterranean restaurant, bar and lounge, located at The Pointe, Palm Jumeirah, Dubai. At AIZA, guests can embark on a captivating culinary and social journey, while experiencing the perfect harmony of Greek-Mediterranean cuisine, inspired by the Cyclades Islands in the Aegean Sea.
From Greek cheeses, Kalamata olives, Mediterranean seafood, and the choicest meats, to Souvlaki prepared live at guests’ tables and authentic Greek desserts like Loukouma, Baklava and Orange Pie - AIZA sources the majority of its produce from Greece, along with a carefully chosen variety of the freshest locally sourced ingredients.
A warm and welcoming one-stop destination, AIZA is a fully licensed open-plan venue, with an alluring open-air terrace, where guests will find the ideal blend of mouth-watering GreekMediterranean cuisine, refreshing beverages, and a specially curated line-up of live entertainment – all topped off by stunning views of the world’s largest fountain, in the idyllic setting of the East Marina at The Pointe.
Not your typical Greek tavern, AIZA’s exquisite interiors take inspiration from the abundance of Cyclades Islands in the Aegean Sea. At the heart of AIZA’s Greek-Mediterranean dining experience are the roots of the iconic tree chandelier, taking guests back to ancient Greece. Exposed illuminated stone on the bar and inset wall pay homage to the island cliffs, while the flooring serves as a nod to the pebbly roads of the island towns.
AIZA’s carefully crafted menu draws inspiration from the Cyclades Islands and features a flavour-filled array of dishes made with speciality ingredients from different islands. Guests can look forward to being taken on a multi-sensory journey that explores the enchanting flavours of Greek-Mediterranean cooking. In doing so, they will embrace the true warmth of Greek hospitality, with each delicious dish served family sharing-style, generously portioned, and placed at the centre of the table.
Suspended wavy ceiling fabric symbolises the forces of nature, reflecting where the sky and sea collide, and, through the arched window, panoramic projections represent the infinite beauty of the islands. A grove of olive trees and a finishing touch of dried golden palm leaves, small touches representing Greek mythology, while the boho chic terrace is a one-stop playground for those seeking to welcome in the weekend in style. Combining dining and drinks with music and breath-taking views of the fountains AIZA is sure to be a popular destination in the coming months.
The AIZA team’s philosophy is rooted in the culinary magic, hospitality, and warmth of service of the Cyclades Islands, and guests can expect to have their taste buds transported to the islands of Santorini, Mykonos, Naxos, and Paros, to name a few.
AIZA is open Monday to Saturday 6.00pm to 2.00am with the kitchen operating 6.00pm to 12 midnight. AIZA, Pointe, Palm Jumeirah, Dubai, +971 4 575 5097

Foods To Help Boost Your Immune System
Now more than ever we are all wanting to give our immune system a boost. A healthy balanced diet plays a vital role in staying well. The following foods may help to boost the immune system.
Turmeric This spice is more than just an exotic way to spice up your lattes. Turmeric contains a powerful anti-inflammatory compound called curcumin. Curcumin has been shown to activate the production of T-cells, these are the main cells fighting for your health in your immune system. When combining turmeric with black pepper it significantly ups curcumin’s efficiency. Blueberries Blueberries are filled with antioxidants and have been shown to help treat and prevent coughs and colds. Further research continues to support the fact that the anti-inflammatory benefits of the polyphenols appear to greatly increase the diseasefighting power of the blueberry. Both antioxidant and the antiinflammatory actions of polyphenols have been linked to a wide range of health benefits and improved treatment outcomes in a large number of age-related illnesses. Tomatoes Tomatoes are incredibly rich in antioxidants mainly from lycopene, eating them is thought to help shield your body from cell damage caused by free radicals. Tomatoes are also a great food to eat when you’re sick due to their high concentration of Vitamin C. Just one medium tomato contains more than 16 milligrams of Vitamin C. Almonds When it comes to fighting off and even preventing colds and flus, Vitamin E tends to take a backseat to Vitamin C. However, this powerful antioxidant is key to a healthy immune system. 10 | Dining and Nightlife Middle East
Broccoli Along with high levels of potassium, folate, and a bunch of antioxidants, broccoli is a great source of immune-boosting Vitamin C. A 100 grams of broccoli has a whopping 89 grams of Vitamin C, which is more than a lot of citrus fruits. Broccoli is also rich in beta-carotene and a host of antioxidants which makes it a perfect vegetable for your overall immunity. Garlic Just one clove of raw garlic contains manganese, Vitamin B6, Vitamin C, selenium, fiber and more than 100 sulfuric compounds thought to be powerful enough to wipe out bacteria and infection. Garlic has been touted as reducing blood pressure and improving cholesterol levels. Garlic is also considered a powerful antioxidant. Sulfuric compounds are also in brussels sprouts, cabbage, chives, kale, leeks, onions, and shallots. Oysters Raw oysters contain the most nutrients and are an excellent source of protein, Vitamins B12 and D, zinc, copper, selenium, manganese and iron. Oysters are rich in zinc, which strengthens your immune response by helping white blood cells reproduce more rapidly. White blood cells, or leukocytes, are the primary specialized cells of your immune system and they contribute by destroying disease-causing microorganisms. Raw Honey The high antioxidant profile of honey helps to prevent immune system damage and disease. In fact, the higher the antioxidant levels, the darker the honey. Honey also promotes the production of white blood cells, in particular, T and B cells and natural killer cells, all important components of the immune system. This helps to promote a healthier and stronger immune response.

NOÉPE
12 | Dining and Nightlife Middle East
January | 13
If you are looking for a great option to dine al fresco let NOÉPE transport you to Cape Cod. One of the most picturesque dining spots in Dubai, NOÉPE offers panoramic views of the Dubai Creek with the city skyline as its backdrop. Located at Park Hyatt Dubai, the space offers a few seats indoor, but NOÉPE is predominately an outdoor dining venue. The décor is light, with elements of coral tones, ropes, wood and shells, reminiscent of a beautiful summer lake house. NOÉPE is designed to be light and breezy, creating a relaxed yet refined environment. It is about 1.00pm in the afternoon when we arrive at NOÉPE and the restaurant is already bustling with guests, mostly sitting outside, with safe social distancing measures in place. We opt for a table at the far corner of the spanning decking, allowing us to indulge in the aquatic scenery. The menu is presented to us, dishes take inspiration from Californian and Nikkei cuisines, NOÉPE also offers a creative beverage selection for those interested. Whilst we look over the menu, we order a plate of the Olives Marine. We make our selection and take a moment to enjoy the scenery. From the East Coast inspired cuisine section of the menu, we opt for the NOÉPE Lobster Charcoal Bun, Boston Lobster, Avocado, Heirloom Tomato and Gochujang Mayonnaise. Our favourite dish, the Lobster is thick and plentiful, with the Charcoal Bun accentuating the dishes flavour.
From the Japanese inspired cuisine section of the menu, we opt for the Miso Marinated Halibut with Edamame, Shitake Mushroom and Black Garlic alongside the Dragon Maki with Prawn Tempura, Teriyaki Sauce and Japanese Mayonnaise. The Miso Marinated Halibut ticks all the boxes, texture, flavour, and presentation are all sublime. The Dragon Maki also does well to satisfy the table. To finish we select the Artisan Cheese Board which consists of three Cheeses, Fresh Figs, Walnuts and Bruschettini. A fine way to conclude our dining experience at NOÉPE. Our only criticism is that that during our dining experience we did encounter a lot of flies on the outdoor terrace and we did ask for a candle to try and keep them away. Another point to highlight is that our entire order was served at once, meaning that we had to rush through our food to ensure it did not sit on the table for too long. Pacing the ordered items would have been a better approach. Overall NOÉPE at Park Hyatt Dubai is a great al fresco dining destination, the location, and the scenery easily make this venue standout. The food was enjoyable, and the service was swift and courteous.
Olives Marine, AED 20 Lobster Charcoal Bun, AED 125 Seafood Fritters, AED 98 The Seafood Fritters consist of Prawns, Sea Bass, Green Padrone Miso Marinated Halibut, AED 148 Peppers and Mushrooms with a side of Wasabi Aioli. The thick Dragon Maki, AED 78 wholesome Prawns are divine, and we like how chef has presented Artisan Cheese Board, AED 98 the Sea Bass. The Fritters are crisp to the bite and do not leave a greasy aftertaste. NOÉPE, Park Hyatt Dubai, +971 4 602 1814 14 | Dining and Nightlife Middle East

Byblos Sur Mer, Fine Lebanese Cuisine
16 | Dining and Nightlife Middle East
One of Abu Dhabi’s most celebrated Lebanese restaurants, Byblos Sur Mer has won numerous awards over the years. For those that have not yet had the pleasure of dining here, Byblos Sur Mer offers authentic Lebanese cuisine in a contemporary, two-level dining venue, with plenty of outdoor seating overlooking the marina. Byblos serves up a variety of delightful mezehs, grills and popular Lebanese dishes, all prepared by their expert chefs. Located at one of Abu Dhabi’s best dining destinations, the Intercontinental Abu Dhabi, this Lebanese restaurant is our destination of choice for this evening. With the temperatures perfect this time of year, we opt for a seat outdoors on the spanning Byblos terrace. Dusk is just upon us and the views of the amber lit skyline are spectacular. As we look through the menu we are presented with a plate of warm Arabic bread and a few dips.
conjunction to the Eggplant is a sublime combination. I would highly recommend not overlooking this dish. Wanting to try a few dishes from the cold mezeh section of the menu we opt for Hummus, a Chickpea Purée with Tahini and Olive Oil, the Moutabal, a Char-grilled Eggplant Purée, with Pomegranates and Tahini, the Hummus Halabi, a Chickpea Purée, Spicy Tomato, Pepper Salsa and Pistachio, and the Innabiyeh, Vine Leaves stuffed with Rice, Tomato and served with a Pomegranate Dip. The cold mezeh selection is a success with the table, my personal favourite is the Stuffed Vine Leaves, the freshness of the produce is undeniable. From the hot mezeh section we order the Deep Fried Halloumi Cheese, fried in a Muhammara crust with Apricot, Quince and Molasses Dip. Who can ever resist the option of Deep Fried Halloumi Cheese? Another standout dish is the Kraydes Bil Ithmaliyeh, Deep Fried Prawns rolled in an Ithmaliyeh Dough, crisp to the bite and bursting with flavour.
From the salad options we opt for the Tabbouleh, mixed Parsley, Tomato, Mint, Onion and Olive Oil, fine White Burghul alongside the Fattoush, a classic Lebanese salad with Mixed Greens, Sumac Bread, Walnuts and Molasses. If you want to judge any Lebanese Moving onto the grill selection we don’t hold back and order the restaurant, these two dishes always set the tone for the rest of the Machawi Mchakaleh, a Mixed Grill Platter consisting of Taouk, meal, Byblos does not disappoint, both are fresh and flavourful. Lamb Tikka, Kofta, and Lamb Chops. The meat arrives to the table piping hot and with the lingering smoky smell of the grill. As there are a few of us dining this evening we decide to order the I cannot resist trying the Raheb, a whole roasted Eggplant with Vegetables and Apple Vinegar. The flavour of the Apple Vinegar in January | 17
Kastaleah, Char-grilled Lamb Chops with Za’atar and Basil, this dish is my dining companion’s favourite dish, the Lamb is perfectly cooked, full of flavour and flakes off the fork. Next up, the classic Lebanese dish, Shish Taouk, Char-grilled Chicken marinated in layers of Garlic. The Shish Taouk is served as cubes of delicious, marinated Chicken and is one of the best-selling dishes at Byblos. The grill selection is really where the culinary team at Byblos shine. If you are not looking for a meat dish, ask the team about the seafood selection.
Overall, the warm hospitality from the staff at Byblos Sur Mer is efficient and professional. The authentic Lebanese cuisine is exceptional, throughout our dining experience the pacing of service and food coming to the table was on point. It is no wonder that Byblos Sur Mer has won so many accolades over the years. If you are looking for a superb Lebanese restaurant, a visit to Byblos Sur Mer is a must!
Tabouleh, AED 38 Fattoush, AED 38 Raheb, AED 35 For dessert we order the Halawat El Jibin Bil Assal, a Cheese Pastry, Clotted Ashta, Sweet Petal, Pistachio, and Syrup alongside Hummus, AED 32 Moutabal, AED 32 the Bakdash Ish-El-Belboul, the signature dessert dish consists of Arabic Bakdash Ice-Cream presented in a Ithmaleyeh Nest and Hummus Halabi, AED 35 Stuffed Vine Leaves, AED 38 sprinkled with Pistachios and the Awamat Bi Debes Kharroub, Deep Fried Halloumi, AED 46 Fried Lebanese Dumplings, Molasses, Hazelnut and Mistika Deep Fried Prawns, AED 82 Ice-Cream. Mixed Gill Platter, AED 148 Lamb Chops, AED 158 All the desserts are delicious, if you have a sweet tooth you will enjoy the extremely sweet taste of these desserts, being a savoury Shish Taouk, AED 70 person myself I thoroughly enjoy the juxtaposition of sweet verses Halawat El Jibin Bil Assal, AED 50 Bakdash Ish-El-Belboul, AED 68 savoury the Halawat dessert had to offer, however it’s the fried Awamat Bi Debes Kharroub, AED 48 Lebanese Dumplings, that get our vote. Dino’s Bistro Italiano
20 | Dining and Nightlife Middle East
Located at Pearl Rotana Capital Centre, Dino’s Bistro Italiano has become one of the most popular Italian restaurants in Abu Dhabi. Dishes range from a variety of pasta, meat to fish, all are made from the finest and freshest ingredients, bringing the true taste of Italy to your plate. As we enter Dino’s we receive a warm welcome from the team. The décor is clean, with touches of traditional Italian influences, the back-lit wall adds a fun and modern element. We take a seat by the window and begin to look through the menu. After some consideration I opt to order from the business lunch menu whilst my dining companion prefers the offerings from the main menu. For appetizers, I order the Buffalo Mozzarella with Vine Ripe Tomatoes from the Dino’s business lunch menu. The Buffalo Mozzarella dish is delicately plated, and extremely generous, so much so we are unable to finish the serving, despite the fact it tastes delicious. Wanting something warm, my dining companion decides to try the Wild Mushroom Soup. This dish consists of Sauteed Wild Mushrooms, Truffle Oil and Sakura Herbs. The soup dish impresses, with such a great flavorful taste and plentiful in portion size, this soup dish offers a ‘mmm’ with every spoonful. We also opt for the Wild Mushroom and Truffle Arancini for us both to share. Crispy Ricotta balls, Portabella Mushroom, Black Truffles, Pine Nuts and Sauce. The Truffle is evident in this dish, perfectly balanced it works in harmony with the Wild Mushrooms. For the main course, I order the Mushroom Risotto from the pasta section of Dino’s business lunch menu whilst my dining partner opts for Risotto Gamberi, Shrimps, Pomodoro Sauce, Zucchini, Leek, Celery, Asparagus and Parmigiano from the main menu. Both these Risotto dishes are excellent, I would even go as far as saying this is some of the best Risotto I have tasted in the UAE. At some debate over which Risotto is the best, we both are eventually swayed by the Risotto Gamberi as the star of the show. Having slightly overindulged but wanting to finish on a sweet note my dining companion opts for the Pineapple Carpaccio, a new item on the menu. Thin layers of Pineapple served with Ice-Cream and Mascarpone, delightful. I order Dino’s most popular dessert, the Butterscotch and Caramel Budino. An excellent finish to our dining experience. Overall, Dino’s Bistro Italiano serves good homemade Italian food at affordable prices. The service is warm, and the setting is relaxed. Would we return? Without a doubt. Dino’s isn’t just a great restaurant for family dining, upon our visit we see many couples and small groups enjoying a hearty Italian meal. Dino’s Business lunch is priced at AED 95 for 2 courses and AED 105 for 3 courses. Including still/sparkling water, soft drinks and tea or coffee. With soups, pizzas, pasta, fish dishes and classic desserts to choose from this is a great deal and worth a visit at Dino’s Bistro Italiano. The main menu has been revamped and features a host of new and tasty dishes. CZN Burak Opens In Dubai
22 | Dining and Nightlife Middle East
Having opened in late December 2020, this fresh new Turkish-Middle Eastern contemporary restaurant, CZN Burak is located at the picturesque Boulevard Point in Downtown Dubai. As you’ve most likely seen it has already been visited by royalty and celebrities alike, making it the hottest dining destination in Dubai at the moment. Celebrity Chef CZN Burak, widely known on social media (with a solid following of 18.2 million Instagram followers) for his amazing meat videos, is already a well-established restaurateur in Turkey; launching in Dubai was the next step for the brand. Situated on the prestigious Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard, the location offers both indoor and outdoor dining experiences with the Burj Khalifa as its backdrop. The menu features a blend of Middle Eastern and Turkish influenced dishes. Dives Holdings’ Chairman, Rizgar Sak, said of the launch: “We know that CZN Burak will be popular here in the UAE and the wider Gulf, as the brand is well received by Gulf visitors to Turkey, and with Chef Burak’s personality and popularity, as well as the perfect location, we’ve got a great recipe for success.” “Whether our guests are looking for a laid-back afternoon or a special evening with impressive Instagrammable shows, CZN Burak sets the scene for delicious Turkish cuisine paired with an exciting atmosphere and views of the Downtown Dubai and Burj Khalifa.” Dives Holding, the owners of the CZN Burak brand, as well as stylish fast-food concept CZN Burger, chose Dubai as the first destination to launch the brand outside of Turkey, as part of their long-term global expansion plans. Chef Burak has a strong culinary heritage with a grandfather who was a ‘kunefe master’ and a father who operated a restaurant in Sisli, Istanbul. It was from this restaurant that Chef Burak developed his love of food and hospitality, and from 13 years of age he got himself involved by working for his father. Now, still in his 20s, Chef Burak operates six of his signature restaurants in Turkey, with Dubai becoming his seventh. The restaurant will showcase foods with a strong Turkish and Arabic influence that diners will be familiar with. With more than 150 dishes to choose from, CZN Burak’s culinary team has dreamt up an extensive menu packed with flavours, colours, and premium ingredients. Designed by the most famous Middle Eastern architect, the restaurant gives you and your family a homey feel with handmade ovens and comfortable seating, you might end up staying for hours. The indoor décor spills out onto the spacious terrace so guests can kick back and enjoy a Turkish tea to end the meal. The restaurant is open 12.00pm to 3.00am daily. The Biggest Food Trends Of 2021
24 | Dining and Nightlife Middle East
January | 25
I think we would all agree that 2020 wasn’t the best year for the hospitality industry, but 2021 is the year of opportunities! We put on our food forecasting hats to take a look at what we think the biggest food trends will be for 2021. Back To Basics After 2020 we predict that many people will want to return back to basics, basic wholesome foods, social gatherings, and a sense of calm and balance. Unlike previous years where chefs and restaurants were pushed to find exciting new ingredients, diners will be more interested in feel good, homecooked style foods, warm hospitality, and a sense of calm. Local If 2020 taught us anything it is that supporting local is now more important than ever. We expect to see a host of small local brands take the spotlight throughout 2021. The Food District at The Pointe, Palm Jumeirah, Dubai is already leading the way, having created a space for 13 homegrown local concepts to expand and thrive.
Vegan In 2021 any restaurant not offering vegan options risks losing a large share of diners. Vegan dining will also heavily influence a rise in sustainable dining as guests become increasingly concerned with what they consume and if it has been ethically sourced and sustainably produced. Chef Collaborations Four hands, six hands and even eight hands chef collaborations are happening all over town. The trend, which we must admit we are quite fond of, shows no sign of slowing down. A plus for diners is that they will get to experience several unique dining experiences as chefs push themselves to their creative boundaries. Immune Boosting Foods The pandemic made everyone step back and review what they were putting into their body, so it should come as no surprise that interest in functional foods with nutritional benefits is at an all-time high. Predictions are that people will be refocusing on creating tailored, nutrition-packed meals that use specific ingredients to achieve individualized goals. We do expect to see a decline in ‘fad’ diets for a more balanced calculated approach to eating.
Organic As diners become more health conscious, we predict that more and more guests will be eager to eat only organic produce. Although this means that restaurants will have to source organic ingredients, we are sure that restaurants will be eager to jump on Zero Waste Movement this trend once they realise that consumers are happy to pay extra. 2020 was the year we bid a long overdue goodbye to buffets, as a result of this, buffet style brunches will decline in popularity as Fine Dining guests opt towards a more conscious dining experience. Fine dining will thrive in 2021! After many of us have had to endure Alongside this with proteins experiencing a big fluctuation in our own cooking for far too long, we will be more than happy to availability and price since the pandemic we predict a larger, ‘no leave it to the professionals. 2021 will be our biggest year for waste’ approach to protein selections. dining out, with more of us wanting to enjoy life (and fine food) that little bit more. 26 | Dining and Nightlife Middle East
Spice Up Your Dish Having watched ‘Chef’s Table’ and every other cooking show Netflix’s could throw our way in 2020 it’s no wonder we are all feeling a bit bolder when it comes to experimenting with spices. Grab that Piri Piri or Za’atar, add a dash, and reinvent your favourite dishes. If you are looking to add a few healthy benefits to your plate, why not reach for the Turmeric. Healthy Alternatives From zucchini noodles, cauliflower pizza, plant based burgers to vegetable fries many people in 2021 will look for healthy alternatives to traditional comfort foods. Speciality Restaurants Fusion is out and focus is in. With the added stress of sourcing the right produce and wanting to cut costs and make up for 2020, many restaurants will move away from large menus with large offerings and we will see many more speciality restaurants grace our culinary landscape. Children’s Menu As parents become more educated about food and nutrition, they will be more cautious as to what their children are eating. We’ve already seen brands such as Jumeirah Hotels and Resorts overhaul their children’s menu, making them more nutritious and appealing. We predict that more brands in 2021 will re-engineer younger diners’ menus as younger diners opt for healthier more ethical options. Virtual Cooking Classes With everyone’s newfound love for cooking at home we predict that virtual cooking classes will start to gain momentum throughout 2021. People have shown they are eager to learn new recipes and experiment with old favourites, adapting them to their personal tastes and preferences.
Ghost Kitchens Expect these to be a big focus for many local F&B businesses in 2021. Ghost Kitchens, like Deliveroo Editions are hubs that host a collection of hand-picked restaurants, all specially designed for delivery, helping hot new trending chefs launch for the first time, or well-loved restaurants reach fans in new locations within the city. Personally, we are all for it! It’s a great idea that allows the industry to grow and flourish. Fine Dining At Home Wanting to cash in on the delivery market we predict that 2021 will be the year that fine dining finally discovers how to bring restaurant quality food and service to people’s doors. We are expecting an upmarket delivery service, think room service to your door, with a slightly higher price tag than standard delivery. Hygiene Precautions 2020 changed the restaurant industry in many ways, we predict that even in the long run, sanitation, spacing, and guest’s comfort levels will (and should) remain a high priority. This will undoubtedly change new restaurants approach when it comes to fit-outs and concepts. Hopefully, we will see less of ‘how many seats can we fit in here to increase the bottom line’ and more of ‘what experiences can we give our guests’ approach. Breakfast Do you remember the days when we would skip breakfast and rush to the office? This seems like one bad habit we will all leave behind. With many of us having spent months working from home we have become quite accustomed to our generous breakfasts and it’s not something we will be willing to part ways with ever again.

Veganuary, Take The Challenge!
28 | Dining and Nightlife Middle East
Veganuary challenges people to adopt a vegan lifestyle throughout January. What Is Veganism? As described by The Vegan Society, ‘Veganism is a way of living which seeks to exclude, as far as is possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose. There are many ways to embrace vegan living. Yet one thing all vegans have in common is a plant-based diet avoiding all animal foods such as meat (including fish, shellfish, and insects), dairy and eggs - as well as products like leather and any products tested on animals. Aren’t Vegans And Vegetarians The Same? No, vegetarians commonly choose to eat eggs and dairy as vegans would not. However, both would not eat meat or fish. Not to be confused with pescatarians who abstain from eating all meat and animal flesh with the exception of fish. In recent years we have seen pescatarians increase as more people are phasing out meat before adopting a full vegetarian or vegan lifestyle. What Do Vegans Eat? Quite a lot it would seem. Although the phrase ‘plant-based’ doesn’t exactly conjure images of mouth-watering cuisine, once you start researching recipes, you’ll discover that there is a whole new culinary world waiting to be explored. Plus, many top restaurants now offer vegan options. Why Go Vegan? Upon my research I found that many vegans had decided to go vegan because of their love of animals, this wasn’t the only reason but for many it was the key motivator. For others their health played a key factor. Adopting a plant-based diet is one of the healthiest diets, many vegans report lower blood pressure and cholesterol than non-vegan. Some research has also shown vegans to have lower rates of heart disease, diabetes, and some types of cancer. For many vegans’ environmental issues were also a concern, with so much land needed for cattle farming, deforestation and its impact on global warming continue to be a concern. Well Known Vegans Many celebrities have adopted a vegan lifestyle such as, Brad Pitt, Lewis Hamilton, Woody Harrelson, Joaquin Phoenix, Alicia Silverstone and Ellen DeGeneres, some of the best known celebrities. Is Going Vegan Expensive? In short, like everything in life, it is as expense or affordable as you want it to be. Of course, if you are buying organic products you may see a slight increase in spending but if you are buying regular fruit and vegetables, with pre-planned meals you shouldn’t see an increase in your weekly shopping bill. Vegan Dining Options Throughout 2020 veganism recorded another dramatic increase in its popularity, as we all focused on a healthier lifestyle, a trend that is set to continue into 2021. 2019 was the year that saw vegan dining move out of small cafes and into many big brand restaurants, with many restaurants offering vegan options on their menus. 2020 saw restaurants offering entirely separate vegan menus, and if you weren’t, you were probably missing out on potential guests. No doubt veganism is here to stay and will continue to gain popularity, for brands that means adapt or be forgotten. For a full list of where to dine vegan, see our article Best Restaurants For Vegan Dining. The 5-star property is the only hotel in the Middle East to be fully designed both inside and out by the late Dame Zaha Hadid. It is located in her mesmerizing The Opus development by Omniyat, in the heart of Dubai’s Business Bay district. ME Dubai is also the first ME by Meliá Hotel in the Middle East, and in keeping with the personality-led ethos of the brand it plans to become the social hub of Dubai’s dynamic cultural scene. A focus of the hotel will be on its world-class F&B mix with Executive Chef, James KnightPacheco at the helm, showcasing an array of sophisticated dining venues; Deseo, Botanica and The Atrium by Zaha Hadid, followed by the largest nightclub space in Dubai.
The Atrium by Zaha Hadid. A perfect place for impromptu meetings, lights snacks, morning pick-me-ups or Afternoon Tea. Here we enjoy a few petit four along with our coffee and admire the architecture.
After a swift check-in we are shown to our room. The room offers stylish interiors boasting clean lines and minimalist decor. The bedroom features one large double bed, a work desk, and a small seating area. The bathroom has a separate restroom, large bathtub, and opulent walk-in shower. Although minimalistic the room is very warm and welcoming with crisp whites and low lighting.
Before making our way to Deseo we decide to stop by Botanica for a pre-dinner beverage. Enclosed off from the lobby area, Botanica offers a hidden bar serving a selection of stylish beverages dedicated to hand-crafted and specialty mixers that are elevated with an array of freshly cut herbs and botanicals, adding a touch of sensory showmanship. An edited menu of light bites sits perfectly alongside the innovative selection of infused beverages. Offering a sophisticated yet whimsical experience, Botanica is the ideal place for evening catch ups with friends and colleagues.

We are shown to our private changing area. The whole area has been sanitized and the therapists are wearing face masks as well as face shields, very reassuring.

I enjoy a range of Mediterranean favourites such as, Warm Breads, Olives, Smoked Salmon, Cheeses and Cured Meats whilst my companion opts for a more American style breakfast and enjoys Pancakes with Maple Syrup. Breakfast is completed with warm Pastries and a selection of Juices, Teas and Coffee.
The therapists are very professional and make us feel comfortable throughout the treatment. The massage is soothing and calming, and the deep tissue work on our muscles results in us feeling much more limber. The treatment beds are extremely comfortable and add to the experience.
