Brunch Around The World at Hilton Abu Dhabi With a prime spot on the beautiful Corniche, Hilton Abu Dhabi is a staple of Abu Dhabi from ages past that has managed to keep up with the times. Case in point, it has a brand new “Brunch Around the World” Friday brunch that showcases the best of its global cuisine. The main dining room is cosy with extensive views of the sparkling beach front. However, with the enticing sights and smells of stir-fried noodles, caramelized into golden deliciousness and the roasted leg of lamb, seared crisp on the outside and juicy everywhere else, I have to admit I am a little more concerned with what is happening inside. The main dining room is filled with outstanding staples of Lebanese and Indian cuisine. A few Western favourites are available at the live cooking stations, like crispy roasted potatoes and a unique addition to a brunch... a whole roasted salt-crusted fish. There is a nice array of fresh seafood featured in unique seafood salads, smoked fish plates, sashimi and even lobster. The Lebanese selection is modest in size but superior in variety and quality. I found myself returning to have seconds of the creative fresh pumpkin salad with sliced almonds. Connecting to the main dining room is the Hilton Abu Dhabi’s Italian restaurant, Bocca. Modern and filled with natural light, Bocca focuses around the heart of Italian cooking, the hearth, or rather, the pizza oven. Chef Leonardo is preparing paccheri pasta to al dente perfection and turning out incredible cheesy pizza. It is refreshing to see an interesting pasta like Paccheri on offer, rather than something so predictable (i.e.penne). The pizza is so good. I was considering ordering one for dinner on my way out.

However, at brunches like these you have to be disciplined, otherwise how would you possibly save space for all of the magnificent cheeses? Even more enticing is that they are displayed so prominently, accompanied by the perfect accoutrements in their own dedicated cheese room. Creamy goat cheeses, toasted nuts, sharp cheddars and little round butter crackers...just to name a few. It is the perfect transition from savoury to sweet as visions of sugar plums begin to dance in your head. The dessert offering is concise, but well executed. It is always respectful when a restaurant sticks to what they do best, rather than try to conquer the universe. The tiramisu is creamy and flavourful, the cabinet pudding (bread pudding) oozes with real vanilla flavour and the chocolate dipped biscotti is the perfect addition to my rich double espresso. And yes, there was ice cream. I didn’t steal candy from a baby exactly, but let’s just say that there were also some really great desserts set out for the kiddies too. The lively guitarist kept the mood light and fun as some diners danced to his music on their way to refill their plates. The buffet was kept very clean and replenished even when the brunch was at its busiest. There was never a dirty plate left on our table for more than a few minutes before the servers would come to whisk it away. My water glass was always kept full and empty drinks were replaced before you could ask. Needless to say the service was fantastically efficient and caring. As years go by, Hilton Abu Dhabi has smartly adapted its dining options to keep up with the trends and desires of its patrons, while their hard work and caring staff are reliably timeless. Dining We enjoy breakfast in the peaceful executive lounge. Guests staying in a deluxe room, premier room, executive suite and grand executive suites can enjoy an unparalled level of bespoke services of the executive lounge at an additional charge, while guests staying in grand suites, signature suites and imperial suites can enjoy these privileges with compliments. The breakfast is rather impressive, the culinary team have put a lot of effort into the morning buffet. We have a selection of traditional English breakfast items, fresh fruit, eggs to order, a selection of cheese and fresh warm pastries. Later that evening we head to Vanitas for dinner. Vanitas is the signature Italian restaurant at Palazzo Versace and we hear it has the finest burrata in town. The emphasis is on classic Italian food. Italian produce is specially imported and the chefs even pick fresh herbs from the hotels gardens. We are guided to our table and handed the menu. The menu features an array of beautiful classic Italian dishes, daunting for some but a dream come true for those who seek to e xperience the true flavors of Italy. Shortly after making our selection and our drinks arriving we are presented with an amuse-bouche. I must admit this small gesture really sets the perception of a restaurant as that of a classy establishment. The team at Vanitas are incredible, they ease in and out throughout the dinner. We hardly notice their presence and a few times we are left questioning if they’d topped up our water or if we just hadn’t drank it. This is how service should be. For starters I select the burrata “Caseificio Artigiana’” atop of grilled focaccia bread with garden’s heirloom tomatoes. My colleague selects the grilled octopus with citrus bavarese, confit and shaved fennel. The burrata is exceptional and although I haven’t tasted all the burrata in Dubai this is definitely in my top 3. Flown in from Italy, all the products of “Caseificio Artigiana” are made with the fresh milk collected from the farms around Putignano. The grilled octopus is flavourful and we love the citrus zest. The mains arrive shortly after. Glacier 51 “Cartoccio” is quite possibly the most dynamic dish I’ve eaten in a while. Black ink spaghetti sits atop of a large plump fresh piece of cullet fish which rests on a bed of crispy potato and “Puttanesca” sauce. This dish is effortlessly divine. Feeling less adventurous, my colleague tucks into the seared beef sirloin with beetroot, steamed lettuce and red jus. Finally the dessert. We decide to share the peach and amaretti creation, almond, apricot, pistachio ice-cream and the citrus and basil crescent with lemon verbena and “Forastero” white chocolate. The desserts are very rich, delicious, but the portion is very generous and as a result we only manage to get through a few bites. After a hearty Italian meal we make our way to Gazebo. Nestled in the east wing, facing the Ischia pool, Gazebo is a tranquil outdoor lounge where you can sample a selection of Arabic mezze. We relax and enjoy a Moroccan tea.

Spa To conclude our spectacular experience we squeeze in an aromatherapy massage. Located on the ground floor west wing of Palazzo Versace Dubai, The Spa has seven treatment rooms, a spa suite, hair and make-up salon and ladies and mens relaxation areas, each with plunge pools and saunas. The spa team are very professional and informative. As we enter the spa they talk us through the treatment and take time to understand any areas of concern. The music, temperature and ambiance of the spa are perfect and the massage is performed to perfection.

The Verdict If I could sum up our experience in one word it would be ‘Impressive’. Palazzo Versace Dubai has class, style, sophistication, elegance and luxury. From the moment you arrive to the moment you check out you are made to feel like a VIP. To date this is the best overall hotel we have ever visited. Palazzo Versace Dubai is a MUST visit, be it dinner, stay or spa. Palazzo Versace Dubai, 04 556 8888

A Day at The Westin Abu

32 | Dining and Nightlife Abu Dhabi

Dhabi Golf Resort and Spa Known for its great restaurants, popular brunch, relaxing spa and impressive golf course, The Westin Abu Dhabi Golf Resort and Spa is one of the most acclaimed hotels in Abu Dhabi. So when Dining and Nightlife Abu Dhabi had the chance to spend the day there, it comes as no surprise that we had a few volunteers. First we brunch! Bubbalicious, The Westin’s award winning brunch is one of the most popular brunches in Abu Dhabi. Every Friday guests are greeted with live music, a range of mouthwatering international cuisine, live cooking stations and an upbeat atmosphere. The brunch features a selection of live cooking stations, seafood delicacies, Asian bites, succulent roasts, fresh sushi, a range of cheeses and sumptuous desserts. To start our brunch we enjoy a selection of fresh seafood, oysters, ceviche and lobster claws with a side of beetroot salad. The seafood selection features all the firm favorites. We really enjoy the ceviche, made fresh to order, chef is on hand to ensure this personalized ceviche leaves you in a state of ‘mmm’. Torn between a piping hot roast or the stunning Asian selection we part ways and go for different cuisines. The roast is succulent, thick cuts of whole rump are smothered in layers of gravy, served with two large plump Yorkshire puddings and a selection of vegetables, scrumptious indeed! From the abundant Asian section my colleague enjoys dim sum, peeking duck, stir fried pepper beef with Singapore noodles and the tuna tataki with yusu-kushu mayonnaise and ponzu sauce. All are fresh and flavorful. Although the cheese selection is tempting we decide to try some of the gorgeous desserts that are on show. The mango coconut sago is our favorite, light and fresh, this dessert is extremely moreish. The panna cotta and crème brûlée are also yummy. This brunch is perfect for friends looking for a fun and lively Friday brunch, with a wide selection of delicacies and a fine selection of desserts to suit all palates. The team are very professional and the head chef himself can be seen mingling with guests and checking the dishes throughout the brunch. The Bubbalicious Brunch is served every Friday from 12.30pm to 4.00pm prices start from AED 290* for the Bubbalicious spread with soft drinks. After a delicious brunch we make our way to the spa. The Heavenly Spa at the Westin Abu Dhabi Golf Resort and Spa embodies a health-enhancing philosophy, where you can immerse yourself in a unique world of physical and mental renewal. A range of spa treatments and massage services are available. From luxurious anti-ageing cleansing techniques, soothing paraffin baths and rejuvenating collagen treatments to invigorating massages. Heavenly Spa offers a selection of treatments including a signature butterfly massage AED 440 for 60 mins or AED 540 for 90 mins, reflexology massage for AED 390 for 60 mins or a hot stone massage priced at AED 540 for 90 mins or AED 440 for 60 mins. I select the signature heavenly massage treatment for 90 mins priced at AED 510 this massage promises to leave you feeling physically rested and mentally uplifted. My colleague selects the intense muscle release AED 540 for 90 mins, if you work in an office and are constantly at your desk this massage is perfect for you. An intensive massage that works deep into stiff, tight, aching muscles to instantly release pain and tension. After a quick change we make our way into the separate female and male relaxation areas. Here we enjoy a ginger tea and lemon water as we begin to unwind in our reclining chair. Shortly after we are called in to the massage area where we start our journey, the therapists explain in detail the benefits of the treatment. We are then given a choice of 3 stones to choose from love, hope and gratitude which will be placed below our head to release positive vibes, a nice touch. The treatment is performed well and the team are extremely professional. They apply just the right amount of pressure ensuring that the treatment is relaxing whilst releasing muscle tension. Overall The Westin Abu Dhabi Golf Resort and Spa offered a wonderful day out from a fantastic brunch to a fabulous spa, why travel when you have all this on your door step. AFTERNOON TEA at Khalidiya Palace Rayhaan by Rotana

Today Afternoon Tea is being served in The Lounge, located to the side of the hotels main lobby. The Lounge is naturally lit boasting floor to ceiling windows and overlooking the pool, setting the tone for a splendid afternoon. The team are very friendly and even when we arrived at Khalidiya Palace Rayhaan by Rotana the valet give us a warm welcome. Two of us are experiencing Afternoon Tea today. My colleague is a vegetarian, which we forgot to mention before we arrived, however the team are very accommodating and chef makes a special vegetarian Afternoon Tea. Before our Afternoon Tea is served we look over the selection of teas available, as wonderful as they are we are both extremely tired today so we order a latte and a regular coffee. Within moments the Afternoon Tea arrives. Beautifully presented, two, three tier stands are placed before us, our eyes explore the divine kaleidoscope of treats. My Afternoon Tea consists of freshly baked scones with thick cream and jam, smoked salmon tarts, choux pastry shrimp cream cheese, chicken tikka rolls, smoked salmon on crispbread, chocolate cake, fruit tart, crème brûlée, sponge cake and baklava. The scones are delightful but we absolutely love the chocolate cake, rich and moist we quickly over indulge ourselves. On a savoury note the choux pastry shrimp cream cheese are delicious, light and fluffy these are the perfect accompaniment to the sweet items. Why not treat yourself to a luxurious Afternoon Tea today and indulge in a selection of sumptuous treats. Afternoon Tea is available every day from 1.00pm to 6.00pm and comes in two options the classic afternoon tea, AED 110* and Rayhaan afternoon tea, AED 125*.
