DINING AND NIGHTLIFE ABU DHABI

Review Located in the Millennium Corniche Hotel, Biscotti overlooks the Capital Garden. Biscotti is the hotels Italian restaurant serving up a variety of delectable Italian dishes. Its large terrace offers a beautiful and relaxing setting, perfect for enjoying the cooler months with friends and family. Having heard a lot about Biscotti and their new chef we were eager to revisit the restaurant to find out what had changed. As we enter Biscotti we are warmly greeted by the waitress and escorted to the table. We select a table next to the window. The staff’s friendly nature and the relaxed atmosphere quickly allow us to unwind. Having only just entered the restaurant we are already taken back by the teams friendliness, almost feels like Biscotti treats every guest as if they are family. We order our beverages and are presented with two large warm bread buns, beautifully glazed and piping hot, how can we resist. The menu is condensed but offers all the Italian classics and more, from risotto to fish, pizza and pasta. For starters we order the zuppa di zucca e taleggio, a pumpkin cream soup with a healthy portion of taleggio cheese and insalata Biscotti, a duo of fresh burrata and buffalo mozzarella, pesto alla Genovese, confit tomato, drizzled with extra virgin olive oil. Both dishes are fresh and nicely presented. The pumpkin cream and taleggio soup is exceptional. Beautiful layers of soft cheese blend into the soup adding to the flavor and texture.

The filetto di branzino con spinaci e riduzione al balsamico, grilled seabass fillet, fresh baby spinach, quinoa and balsamic reduction is being quietly consumed by my colleague. Never one to be lost for words I can only assume that he is enjoying his dish, an assumption later confirmed when my request to try some is quickly dismissed. The seabass sits on a bed of quinoa. Quinoa is one of the hottest trends on menus at the moment. The seabass has been pan fried giving the skin a nice, golden glow and a crispy texture. This dish is delightful and highly recommended as a light summer meal. For dessert we decide to go off the menu and request fresh fruit. Without any hesitation the chef kindly puts together a colorful fruit platter which consists of chopped apples, kiwis, strawberries, melon, raspberries, blueberries and blackberries. The overall dining experience at Biscotti was very good indeed. This restaurant is the perfect place for families and also caters for the savvy business professional.

Biscotti Millennium Corniche Hotel 02 614 6000

As we embark onto the main course we decided to order the petto di pollo farcito con funghi e fegato d’oca, chicken breast filled with wild mushroom and foie gras, crispy polenta and artichoke. A true Mediterranean experience. What I like about this dish in particular is that the chef has kept it simple, he has allowed the ingredients to do the work , without overloading the dish with heavy sauces. I particularly enjoyed the mix of olives and fresh artichokes as it gives the dish a splash of color.

How to capture that

great foodie pic With millions of food pictures being snapped around the world every second restaurants need to ensure their food is as visually pleasing as it is tasty. Social media is full of great foodie images just #foodie on Instagram and over 22,462,635 foodie posts will appear. We all know that a great foodie pic can generate a lot of likes and also earn bragging rights. Our 11 tips below will ensure that you never take a bad picture again. 1. Photograph something people want to eat If it doesn’t look good on your plate it won’t look good online. No one wants to see your sad looking lunch. Be sure to photograph food that looks visually appealing to you in real life this will translate well into a photograph.

8. Eye level If you want to emphasize the of a dish, eye level or should we say table level is a great trick. This method is particularly used when taking images of burgers or sandwiches as it allows the photographer to capture all the fillings.

2. Think about your approach Don’t just start snapping away the moment the food lands on your table, take a moment to rotate the plate and find the best angle. Think about what angle makes the food look most appealing.

9. Lighting The best lighting any photographer could wish for is natural lighting. If you’re dining in the day be sure to grab a seat next to the window. Window lighting is great because it equally diffuses an image and wraps itself around the food nicely. Be sure to never use your flash, this kills the image and makes even the most appealing of plates look terrible.

3. Styling If you need to style the dish do so. Takeaway the extra salad that is bulking up the image, move the asparagus neatly to the side, style is everything.

10. Focus Don’t publish a blurry image, be sure to hold your phone or camera still and don’t move. Take a few photos so that you can select the best one. 11. Take 2 If you don’t like the image take another one. Don’t be in a hurry to publish your image online. No one likes unappetizing food.

4. Get Creative If you are taking the image at home step out of our comfort zone. Adding additional props like dishes or glasses can add character to the image however be sure that the food remains the primary image. 5. Use a great background You can also try adding a great backgrounds. If you’re dining at a restaurant with a wonderful ocean view capture the scenic background, just be sure to keep the food as the focus. 6. Get a birds eye view One of the most popular ways to take food images is to get a bird’s eye view. Your food should be in the center of the photo with equal space around the sides. Selfie sticks are helpful but to ensure no movement when taking the images jump up on your seat and snap away. 7. Get close Another good trick is to get close to the food so it fills the entire frame. This method is great when capturing food that has either a lot of color or detail.

Review Cipriani restaurant and lounge is a split level bar and restaurant located on Yas Island in Yas Marina. Cipriani boasts a large outdoor terrace that overlooks the stunning Yas Marina. The menu is divided into two sections. The a la carte menu features signature dishes from Harry’s Bar in Venice, classic Italian favorites such as octopus carpaccio, spaghetti with Italian clams and risotto with black cuttlefish. The second section of the menu offers Japanese dishes such as tempura, noodles and sushi. The team are immaculately presented in smart suites, white bowties and pristine white gloves. Whether you are a regular of other Cipriani locations around the world or a first time customer you will always be warmly greeted. Designed by Florentine architect, Michele Bonan the restaurant’s décor is influenced by a cruise liner theme, small portholes play a repeating oceanic video adding to the ambiance. For appetizers we order the salmon tartare with tonnato sauce and the fresh burrata 300 grams with cherry tomatoes and taggiasche olives. Both dishes are presented well. As we cut into the burrata a soft, stringy crud cream flows onto our plate. The burrata is one of the best we have ever had the pleasure to taste. The salmon tartare is light and the tonnato sauce adds a creamy and tangy taste to the dish. For our main course we select the black cod and the hammour. The black cod is marinated with yuzu miso, this Alaskan cod is presented with a single hajikami. The black cod is terrific, it softly flakes apart and the sweetness is just enough to add flavor to the black cod without overbearing our taste buds. The pan seared local hammour with fresh tomatoes and taggiasche olives is also appetizing but it’s the black cod that steals our attention. Throughout our meal our waiter is very efficient, he effortlessly delivers good service without trying to over please. For dessert we order the lemon sorbet and the lemon tart. The desserts prove a big success, very delicious. The concept of the food at Cipriani is easy. Simple food done to perfection. Cipriani’s elegant setting and five star service has seen this brand grow from a single restaurant into a world renowned hospitality brand, still recognized for its distinguished venues and service all over the world. Overall Cipriani left us feeling as though we had enjoyed a tailored dining experience, very professional, informative and personalized. For groups, special events and parties, Cipriani has several set menus available to choose from. They range in price to suit the budget of the event.
