Vietnamese T Park Many of you will have dined at the award-winning restaurant, The Park Bar and Grill, located at Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi Hotel and Villas. The Park Bar, situated on the upper level of The Park Grill, has launched a limited time menu, featuring a selection of diverse Vietnamese delicacies. Considered as one of the healthiest cuisines in the world, this authentic menu has been created by Chef Mau, a native of this beautiful country. As we enter The Park Bar we are warmly greeted by the team. The weather is perfect, so we decide to take a seat on the terrace, this is where we first meet Chef Mau. Chef is full of spirit as she eagerly dashes from table to table interacting with guests. The special menu offers a wide variety of appetizing Vietnamese dishes, ranging from traditional favourites to more modern plates. We begin with a platter of five dishes, Fresh Shrimp Rice Paper Rolls, Pomelo Salad with Crispy Crab, Mien Tay Chicken Salad, Spicy Squid with Mango Salad and Seafood Black Egg Spring Rolls. The starters are fabulous, the Pomelo Salad has just the right amount of flavour, the Spicy Squid is cooked to perfection and the Rice Paper Rolls taste light and fresh. The most interesting dish is the unique Seafood Black Egg Spring Rolls. Itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s the first time we have tried Black Egg, also known as Century Egg which derives its black colour from being preserved in clay, ash, salt, quicklime and rice hulls. Despite its appearance the Black Egg has an appetizing taste, although the texture is slightly more jelly like than a normal egg. Next, another sensational dish, the plump Crab Cakes, served with Chinese Cabbage Slaw, and Nam Jim Sauce. This is my personal favourite, the Crab Cakes paired with the crispy Chinese Slaw and the sweet sauce is just sensational.

Touch At The Bar My colleague thoroughly enjoys the Chicken Wings, but the Steamed Buns with Slow Cooked Short Ribs are the highlight of his dining experience and he goes as far as to say, they are the best he has tasted in the city. We also sample a small helping of the Pho, Vietnamese Beef Noodle Soup. As with all the other dishes, Chef Mau has managed to capture the essence of Vietnam through her cuisine. To conclude, Steamed Sticky Rice with Mango and Coconut Milk, a superb end to a wonderful dining experience. Appetizing and satiating the senses, guests can choose from flavourful bites inspired by local street food, including the signature Pho Bo and a selection of tropical fruits infused with exotic herbs and spices. Meet the cheerful Chef Mau as she shares her life through her creations. The Park Bar is located at the lobby level of the hotel, presenting guests with indoor and outdoor seating options. The Vietnamese a la carte menu will be available at The Park Bar daily from 5.00pm till 11.00pm until 6th January 2019. Chef Bastien Joins JW Steakhouse Marriott Downtown Abu Dhabi has announced the appointment of its newest Chef de Cuisine, Chef Bastien Meyrat, who heads up the culinary team at the renowned JW Steakhouse. Chef Bastien was born in a small Swiss town and began cooking at a young age. His grandmother would teach him how to cook his favourite French dishes, unaware that one day the fun they shared in the kitchen would lead Bastien to find his calling in life. Living in Switzerland Bastien was surrounded by fresh produce and from an early age he developed an appreciation for nature. At the age of 17 Bastien began to train as a chef at Waldmannsburg, a critically acclaimed restaurant in Dubendorf, Switzerland. The next stage of his career was spent working in various restaurants across Zurich, before going on tour with an open-air theatre as part of the catering crew. Most notably Bastien was appointed Sous Chef at the 2008 FIFA European Football Cup. Later he travelled to Thailand where he became Head Chef at Pakse Laos. After two years he was given the opportunity to become Executive Chef at a luxury resort in Borobudur, Indonesia, followed by a move back to Thailand to become Group Executive Chef. However, as Group Executive Chef Bastien missed being in the kitchen and decided to take a step back and return to a Chef de Cuisine position where he would be able to return to his passion of cooking. We visited Chef Bastien at JW Steakhouse to have a sneak peek of a few new dishes he will be introducing to the revamped menu on the 10th December 2018. Double Baked Stilton Cheese Soufflé, served with Lettuce, Celery, Apple and Walnut Salad. Double baked this soufflé is unlike its more common cousin, instead of the high rise this soufflé has a more oval appearance. This was my favourite dish of the night, light and fluffy to cut, yet rich and creamy to taste. Quinoa Risotto, with Goats Cheese, Heirloom Beets, Radish and Pistachio. We loved the creativity of this dish and its great to see more vegetarian options being introduced onto the menu, although for our personal taste the flavours of this dish were quite bold. Tableside Black Angus Beef Tartar, JW Steakhouse is bringing back tableside theatre by reintroducing trolley to table culinary excitement. Chef Bastien himself will be creating all the tableside Tartar allowing guests to communicate any specific dietary requirements and talk to the man behind the menu. The Tartar itself is some of the best we’ve tasted in the city and we are sure it will be a big hit with guests. When we spoke to Chef Bastien we asked him what changes he would be making at JW Steakhouse, he said, ‘Produce is key for me, fresh ethical produce is something I as a Chef hold very important. As an example, one of our beef suppliers in Australia allows their cattle to roam free in open farms, making the whole system more ethical. Also more vegetarian options will be introduced on the menu, so those who still want to enjoy great food and service can feel welcome at JW Steakhouse’. 12 | Dining and Nightlife Abu Dhabi

The Western influence is clear to see through the minimalist design and trendy vibe, but like its name, it embraces all things local, with coffee beans roasted in Dubai from Seven Fortunes Roastery and organic food choices sourced from local supplier Wheatfields. Coffee aficionados will rejoice in the specialty coffee options, with the team of friendly and knowledgeable baristas on hand to make that perfect cup. Hot or cold there’s something on the menu for everyone, from the popular iced Spanish Latte to the unique LOCAL Latte, a regional blend created in-house with cardamom spice, date syrup and condensed milk. V60, Chemex and Aeropress, along with cappuccinos, matcha and regular lattes topped with latte art are also available. Not a coffee fan? No problem, there’s a range of Avantcha loose leaf teas, hot chocolate, iced teas and soft beverages to compliment the paninis, wraps and baked goods. Li Jiang, located at The Ritz-Carlton Abu Dhabi Grand Canal is a modern Southeast Asian restaurant, adorned in rich red textiles the restaurant features an open kitchen and a spanning outdoor terrace which boasts uninterrupted views of Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. Li Jiang meaning ‘beautiful river’ in Chinese, reflects the resort’s location on the Grand Canal. Whetting the appetite for all things spicy, authentic and oriental, today all eyes turn East as we are visiting Li Jiang to experience their Saturday Brunch. As we enter Li Jiang the restaurant is already bustling with brunch goers and the tunes from the live DJ gets us into that weekend mood. We take a seat by the large double doors where we have a great view of Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. The brunch is buffet style, although to begin guests are welcomed with a selection of freshly cooked Dim Sum which is brought to the table. The Seafood Dim Sum is our favorite and we ask for a second helping. From the buffet we start with a selection of fresh salads, assorted Asian Greens in Soya Garlic Sauce, Yam Talay; Thai Seafood Salad and Papaya Salad. All the salads are fresh and bursting with flavor. Although nothing quite beats the classic Papaya Salad. I then move onto the hot buffet items and enjoy a helping of Lamp Chops, Marinated Tiger Prawns and Chicken and Lamb Satay. The Chicken Satay is my favorite cooked to perfection, the sauce further compliments the flavors. From the bustling open kitchen, the expert chefs serve up a tempting variety of Pan-Asian delicacies, including authentic rice and noodles. We enjoy a few portions of both. Admittedly I am having a more enjoyable experience than my pescatarian companion whose options are limited. The Saturday brunch is more catered to the carnivores amongst us, those who are vegetarian would struggle to find dishes they could eat. Over to the desserts, Hot Rice Milk Pudding, Carrot Halwa Linzer Tart, Pecan Nut Crème Brûlée Mango Tatin and Coconut and Pandan Leaf Opera, to name a few, make for a tempting array of desserts. We enjoy the Mango Tatin and the Hot Rice Milk Pudding, both are pleasing. The service at Li Jiang is warm and welcoming. The staff do well to check in and ensure we are enjoying our experience without interrupting. Our waitress is extremely accommodating and upon learning about my companions’ dietary requirements she kindly sends a few more portions of the Seafood Dim Sum to the table. The quality of the cuisine is superb and although the brunch is a buffet concept it is clear through the taste of the cuisine that the culinary team are extremely talented. Ideally, we would like to return to try the a la carte evening menu to really see what Li jiang has to offer. If you are looking for a bustling Saturday brunch, surrounded in five-star luxury and you enjoy Asian cuisine then Li Jiang’s Saturday brunch is worth a visit. Brunch At The Palace

Brunch at the Palace is back for yet another season. We visited the glistening Emirates Palace to experience the much talked about brunch for ourselves.

tickle your taste buds. For example, the carvery stall, which will have roast enthusiasts relishing in the offerings of prime rib, succulent beef, Yorkshire puddings and parmesan roasted carrots.

Brunch at the Palace is held at Las Brisas, Spanish for breezes, Emirates Palace’s east beach club restaurant. Situated at the edge of the large pool, with breath-taking views of the Arabian Gulf, guests are invited to dine al fresco, whilst relaxing on the spanning terrace.

Entertainment is on hand to keep the young and the young at heart entertained with a live band playing all the classic tunes. Kids will be treated like princes and princesses, so adults can relax and enjoy the day.

The brunch concept has been revamped since last season, the new set up has been designed to resemble a Mediterranean market. Guests will lose themselves as they wonder around the aisles, watching as chefs show off their culinary skills.

Brunch culminates in true Emirates Palace style with the coffee bar, patisserie and boulangerie stalls, created by new Executive Pastry Chef Francois Leo and resulting in a finale that’s sure to be remembered.

Mediterranean delights vary from the organic vegetable garden, to Spanish tapas, Arabic mezze and a juice and fruit bar. Expect the unexpected when it comes to live cooking and delight the senses with wagyu burgers and short rib from the parrilla grill, organic eggs dishes, a paella corner, and the ever-popular fish and chip shop.

We really like the Mediterranean market theme, the food quality was good, the variety was extensive, and the overall ambiance was enjoyable, however one major issue which let the brunch down was the number of flies that were surrounding the brunch. Unfortunately, it can’t be helped, and the team did their best to combat the issue with candles, but it did impact on our experience.

We enjoyed a varied selection of dishes throughout the day, we especially enjoyed the seafood bar where we indulged in mud crabs, oysters and fresh lobster. The tapas bar was equally as enjoyable with the lobster frittata with rucola and patatas bravas being our favourite dish of the day. Sky Lounge Friday Brunch

We arrive in the lobby of Grand Millennium Al Wahda Hotel Abu Dhabi and take the lift to the 31st floor. This leads us to Sky Lounge Thirty-One, the rooftop restaurant has recently undergone a refurbishment and is todays destination for the Sky Lounge Friday Brunch.

Other selections include baked king fish, chicken roulade, chicken wings, garlic and rosemary potatoes, chicken alfredo, lamb chops and pan-fried veal steak to name a few. We do enjoy the pan-fried veal steak with mushroom sauce with a side of grilled vegetables with pesto.

As we enter the restaurant we are warmly welcomed by the team and shown to our table. Sky Lounge, 390ft high, encompasses stunning panoramic views of the Abu Dhabi skyline. The décor of the restaurant is minimalistic with large TV screens showing all the sport. A live band is performing Arabic songs in the background, which creates a relaxing atmosphere.

Our favorite station has to be the dessert station. The desserts include a chocolate fountain with optional sweets, marshmallows or fresh strawberries for dipping, assorted fruit tartlets, ice cream, crème brûlée, blueberry cheesecake, raspberry pavlova, brownies, croquembouche, kunafa and many more. The kunafa is divine and one of the best we’ve tasted in the city, we also really enjoy dipping the fresh strawberries in the warm chocolate fountain.

Onto the food, the brunch stations include, sushi, grills, pizza, salad, seafood and dessert. To start we enjoy an impressive selection of seafood, our favorite being the oysters and plump prawns alongside a small helping of vegetable minestrone soup. Next, we move onto the live tabbouleh station, made to order, we like the interaction it adds to the brunch. If you know us well, you know we have a slight obsession with pizza, so imagine our excitement when we discovered the brunch has its own made-to-order pizza station, which cooks all the pizzas in a dedicated pizza oven. We try a selection of pizzas, which surprisingly, exceed our expectations. For sushi lovers, the live sushi station is a must, options include California, tuna, salmon and eel rolls alongside shrimp, tuna and salmon nigiri, again made fresh to order. Sky Lounge Friday Brunch may not be the most lavish setting to enjoy a Friday brunch and the food options are more limited than larger buffet concepts in the city, but the team have opted for quality over quantity and the cuisine they do serve is done exceptionally well. The service is efficient yet friendly and staff are always happy to help. We’d recommend this brunch to couples and groups of friends who are looking for a more relaxed Friday brunch, if you don’t fancy getting dressed up, yet would like to enjoy good food in a nice setting for a reasonable price then this is the brunch for you. Sacci

Sacci, popular amongst residents for its award-winning Italian cuisine has now added another string to its bow. Located at The Westin Abu Dhabi Golf Resort and Spa, every Wednesday, Sacci will welcome guests to experience Mercato by Sacci. We headed over to Sacci to check out their new seafood night. As we arrive the evening is already in full swing. The live singer is serenading guests as they enjoy fine fare outside on the patio. The temperature is perfect this evening, so we take a seat outside near the grill. Inside Sacci guests will find a selection of cheeses, breads, an antipasti station and desserts. Outside on the patio guests can enjoy the live cooking stations, boasting a wide variety of fresh pasta and delectable seafood. Seafood ranges from Lobster, Scallops, Salmon, Tuna, Crab Legs to Octopus. We begin by selecting dishes from the antipasti station, Seafood Salad, Caprese, Avocado and Tuna Tartar alongside a few bread rolls. The Avocado and Tuna Tartar is by far our favorite dish from the antipasti station, light and flavorful we return for a second helping. Next, we enjoy the fresh pasta, we select the Eggplant Pasta with a Tomato Sauce. The pasta tastes sensational and the freshness is evident. From the seafood offerings we decide to try the Lobster Tail, grilled to perfection, it gets a big thumbs up from the team. This is enjoyed with a small helping of Roasted Potatoes and Creamy Spinach. We head back inside the restaurant to sample a few of the cheeses on offer. The cheese station offers a wide variety of cheeses from Losa Vacca, Scoparolo to Gorgonzola to name a few. We enjoy these with complimenting crackers. Wanting to conclude the evening on a sweet note we try the small pastries, our advice, be sure to taste the Lemon Meringue, it will not disappoint. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our evening at Sacci. Sometimes themed evenings can be a bit hit or miss but Mercato by Sacci is definitely a hit. Authentic Italian food, a relaxing ambience, live entertainment and an interactive dining experience all await guests every Wednesday night. Be sure to sit outside on the patio so you can take in the smell from the grill, the sounds of the live entertainment and the cool breeze. For the third consecutive year Dining and Nightlife Abu Dhabi have teamed up with the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi to bring you a host of tasty happenings throughout the city. Celebrity Chef Dusit Thani has joined forces with Dining and Nightlife to launch an exciting promotional campaign at its newly unveiled TV celebrity chef Indian restaurant, Namak by Kunal Kapur. During the festival the iconic restaurant will serve an exclusively tailored 10-course set menu, priced attractively at AED 190 net per person. There will be two versions of the set menu catering to the discerning palate of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian diners of Abu Dhabi and beyond. In need of some rest and relaxation we decide to visit Atarmia Spa at Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi Hotel and Villas to review their unique Voyager Massage Journey treatment. Atarmia Spa promises a tranquil and re-energizing experience, just what we need after a busy week in the office. Atarmia Spa is located on the lobby level of the hotel, but for convenience has its own entrance. As we enter the spa the aromas of calmness embrace our senses. We are warmly greeted by the team and Melanie, the Spa Manager, informs us about what we can expect from our treatment and what makes VOYA products so unique. VOYA is focused on creating genuinely organic, seaweed-based products and spa treatments. VOYA offers luxury results-driven products based on the highest-quality botanical ingredients and aromatherapy oils. VOYA believes in organic and sustainable ways of doing business, that is why VOYA has adopted organic and sustainable ways of creating their products. They harvest wild organic seaweeds by hand to ensure the delicate coast environment of the West of Ireland is not damaged. VOYA products contain as much organic ingredients as possible and they voluntarily submit their products to be certified by both the Soil Association COMOS and the Irish Organic Farmers and Growers Association (IOFGA). Today we will be reviewing the Voyager Massage Journey, a treatment created using VOYA products. The treatment comprises of a complete top to toe relaxation journey, incorporating dry body brushing, scalp massage, stretches and a body massage that replicates the movement of the sea, combining both gentle and stimulating movements. The ultimate luxury treatment to relieve aches and pains, tailored to meet individual needs. The treatment is performed to the highest standards, as one would expect from Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi Hotel and Villas. The Atarmia Spa team are extremely knowledgeable and professional. After our treatment they even take time to inform us about problem areas that we need to address. Overall the Voyager Massage Journey delivered in every way, the brushing stimulated cells and removed dead skin, the stretches released tension and the massage allowed us to relax. Plus we really liked the VOYA products, not only did they smell amazing but are cruelty free and organic. Foodshed

The interior mainly consists of wood and neutral tones, apart from the black and white flooring which gives it a modern edge. However, this evening the air conditioning is turned up just a bit too cold for our liking, so we opt to dine outdoors on the terrace.

My dining companions however thoroughly enjoy their mains. The Chicken Burger, Grilled Fried Chicken Breast with Cilantro Aioli served with Homemade Fries is scrumptious. The star of the show is the Chickpea Vegan Curry, Chickpea Curry topped with Red Onion served with a choice of Rice or Chapatti. The Chickpea Curry tastes delicious and has just the right amount of spice. This portion is more than generous and even though we do our best to enjoy it with the warm Chapatti bread we only manage to get half way through. We enjoy this dish so much we would return for it alone.

The focus at Foodshed is wholesome, which is clearly seen in the menu, with dishes ranging from healthy breakfast options such as Vegan Pancakes, Free Range Eggs to lunch options like the Ultimate Veggie Burger. If you are vegan or conscious about eating well, Foodshed is definitely a place you need to visit.

For dessert we opt for the Cheesecake Brownie and the Carrot Cake. The Cheesecake Brownie offers a multitude of flavors from the creamy Cheesecake to the deep rich texture of the Chocolate Brownie. The Carrot Cake is sweet and moist, full of vibrant orange flaked carrots and toasted nuts, covered in cream cheese icing.

As itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s the evening we are dining from the lunch/dinner menu. To begin we share the Burrata Salad, locally made the creamy Burrata is served with fresh Tomatoes, Basil Pesto and a Balsamic Glaze. The Burrata is amazing and would rival that of many fine dining restaurants in the city.

With Foodshed having recently opened they do have a few small teething issues, like the restaurants temperature to work on. However, the concept is what the city needs with vegan diners on the rise and options remaining limited Foodshed aims to cater to this growing market segment. If the team can iron out their teething issues and do so quickly, they stand to become a big hit with the community.

Recently opened, Foodshed serves vegan-friendly wholesome food to its guests. We arrive this evening to a warm welcome from the team. First impressions, the team are happy and keen to showcase what Foodshed has to offer.

For our mains I opt for the Fish and Chips, battered local Hammour served with Homemade Fries, Minty Mushy Peas and Tartar Sauce. This dish sadly disappoints, as I was expecting the batter to be crispier and the Hammour just didnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t work. Other fish options would be better suited like Cod or Haddock.
