Music Showcase A feast of Dio musical talent on display in our annual extravaganza.

Music showcase

Dio students once again delivered a feast of performance styles and outstanding talent at our annual musical extravaganza in Holy Trinity Cathedral when we make it possible for the school community and general public to share in the experience that is music at Dio.

Representing some of New Zealand’s finest young singers and instrumentalists, this evening never disappoints with its award-winning choirs and orchestras, offering a performance platform for nearly 300 girls and some 16 different groups.

Highlights of the evening were the inclusion of the Year 6 Chapel Choir performing a medley, concluding with a song and dance routine of Singin’ in the Rain; the Symphony Orchestra performing their gold award-winning New Zealand work, David Hamilton’s Elysian Fields; new KBB award winners for 2019 ConcorDio Strings and the 70-strong JHS Concert Band; and a cello fest with our top Dio cellist Sharon Hung performing two concertos.

We have so many multi-talented girls performing across the ensemble and genre spectrum, but this year a special mention must go to our outstanding singer/instrumentalists from this year’s Year 13 cohort; double gold winners Rebecca He, Olivia Francis, Doris Dong, Emma Wong She, Hannah Barber Wilson, Sharon Hung and Concert Master Jacqui Li. These students have created the core of the Symphony and Chamber Orchestras, Senior Choir, Concert Band, and the St Cecilia Singers, and with their departure at the end of this year, a legacy goes with them.
