Cabaret! The Junior High School delights with song and dance cameos from our favourite musicals.

CABARET!

An evening of superb drama, music and dance was brought to the Diocesan School Hall stage in Arts Week.

The Junior High School revue Cabaret was a fantastic combination of light, sound and sheer energy from a cast of 50 students from Years 7 to 10 who worked very hard for only a month to create a 90-minute spectacle of musical theatre.

The revue-style production this year was set as a cabaret evening – not unlike what one might find in the narrow streets off Broadway with tables, food and drink and a red curtain! The theme this year was hit numbers from musicals of the ’70s and ’80s and the show included scenes from musicals like Cabaret, Les Miserables, Jesus Christ Superstar and Phantom of the Opera, to name but a few.

The format of the production allowed many of our students to showcase their vocal, dramatic and dancing talent in solo, duet, trio and large ensemble numbers.

The energy, colour and drama on stage continued throughout the show, culminating in the superb finale that brought every member of the cast on stage to join in the well-known number from Les Miserables, One Day More. The joy on the faces of this young cast was clear to see! We’ll look forward to seeing many of them on stage again as they move into the senior productions.

Thanks go to the production team – Lachlan Craig, Rachael Brand, Sarah Spicer, Rebekah Brady, Rachel Sutherland, Olwyn Davidson, Samuel Cunningham, Chantelle Gerrard, Juan Kim and Rachel Holland for lending their care and expertise in their respective areas. The students thoroughly enjoyed working alongside our staff whose passion for theatre helped bring the night together.
