Bristol Beacon to broadcast London Symphony Orchestra concert at Bath Forum to care homes across the country as thank you to staff and residents Bristol Beacon are to live stream the forthcoming London Symphony Orchestra concert with Sir Simon Rattle in Bath to care homes across the country as a thank you and gift to staff and residents for their hard work and resilience during the pandemic. The broadcast, which takes place on Thursday 7 October from 7.15pm, is being organised thanks to sponsorship from Bristol Care Homes, who are supporting the cost of the stream. A private link to watch the concert is being sent for free to a national database of care homes, and the Care Quality Commission are also promoting the opportunity. The concert, which sees Sir Simon Rattle lead the orchestra in Martinů’s Rhapsody-Concerto for viola with violist Antoine Tamestit and Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony, is being performed at Bath Forum – the first time the orchestra has performed in Bath since 2008. The concert has been staged by Bristol Beacon, with funding from the Culture Recovery fund, in anticipation of an ongoing artistic partnership with London Symphony Orchestra when the venue reopens in 2023. 4
Geoff Crocker, Chair of Bristol Care Homes, said: “Care Homes look after some of the most vulnerable people in our society, and the pandemic hit the sector hard. Staff and residents have had to endure loss and lockdown, missing valuable time with families over many months in order to keep safe. It is credit to the tremendous resilience and hard work of staff that between the first and second wave, care homes nationally reduced excess mortality rates by 95% and provided safe care for our residents in the most challenging circumstances. I hope this concert goes some way at least to saying thank you.” Kathryn McDowell, Managing Director of London Symphony Orchestra, said: “It is a pleasure to be partnering with Bristol Beacon and Bristol Care Homes on this broadcast – I hope that the Orchestra under the baton of Sir Simon can provide some much-deserved entertainment and joy to care homes across the country.” Louise Mitchell, chief executive of Bristol Beacon, said: “As our own venue is mid-transformation, we have found a fantastic opportunity to return the LSO to Bath for the first time in many years. Live broadcasting an orchestra is no mean feat, so to find a great partner like Bristol Care Homes to help further fund this thank you to staff and residents is an utter joy. I know what the incredible challenges havebeen, so this concert will be extra special.”
The concert broadcast takes place on Thursday 7 October at 7.15pm and is available for free to any care home in the country. Care Homes wishing to access the stream should contact hello@bristolbeacon.org for information. Concert tickets are available at www.bristolbeacon.org/shows/london-symphony-orchestra-2021/

Tips And Tricks For Successful wall paper hanging There are some tasks that you may need to do before hanging your wallpaper. Check our list to ensure your walls are fully ready for wallpaper. With this guide you will get the best finish possible and avoid any nasty surprises further into the project. Have you removed any existing wallpaper? Doing this will give you a smooth finish and avoid air bubbles and creases appearing when you hang the new wallpaper
Have you bought enough wallpaper? It helps to estimate the amount of wallpaper you’ll need for your project. When you measure the height and length of the walls you want to wallpaper, also measure the windows and doors. Allow extra for wastage. We recommend 10% extra, and any unopened rolls can be returned to the store you bought them from. Also, allow for extra when using paper with a large repeat pattern – the pattern repeat is usually stated on the roll label or product information. Are all the rolls of wallpaper the same batch number? Make sure all the rolls have the same batch number printed on the label, as the colours and in some instances, the finish, can vary between batches.
Have you planned how you’re going to hang the wallpaper? We recommend hanging wallpaper vertically Are your walls freshly plastered? unless the pattern requires it to be hung If so, have you sealed them with wall sealer? horizontally. Bristol begins it’s campaign for plasma donors as the Bristol centre is only 39% full each day NHS adverts are going live in Bristol because there are not enough people donating plasma. Plasma is used to make lifesaving medicines but the Bristol donor centre in Southmead Road is only around 39% full each day, with around 45 appointments going empty every week. The adverts, across social media and public places, will be part of a sustained campaign to drive up donor numbers over the next six months. The NHS relies on imported plasma medicines however global supplies are under long standing pressure due to rising demand. The pressure has increased due to coronavirus affecting donation in the USA. NHS Blood and Transplant started taking donations this year to bolster long term UK supplies but the number of donors is far behind target. Plasma donation is new and research shows only two in ten people know about it. Awareness is low because plasma donation restarted in April after a break of more than 20 years. (1) The 11 new plasma donor centres are in Barnsley, Birmingham, Bolton, Bristol, Chelmsford, Croydon, Manchester, Reading, Stockton, Stratford, and Twickenham. Plasma is used to make medicines full of donor antibodies which fight bacterial and viral infections. This medicine, known as immunoglobulin, is used to strengthen or stabilise the immune systems of people with rare, lifethreatening diseases.
Around 740 people in the South West region received immunoglobulins last year. Alison Dent, Bristol Plasma Donor Centre Manager, said: “Plasma is a powerful, lifesaving part of your blood, which can be used to make unique, lifesaving medicines. “Since donation restarted we’ve had many fantastic people come in to donate but we still see too many empty chairs every day. “We need your help. “In the next few months, we need thousands more people to start donating at our donor centre. “Plasma donation is safe and easy, it doesn’t take long, and you will help save and improve the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in the country.” The campaign will headline with the message that plasma is ‘the medicine in you’, emphasising that for some patients there is no alternative treatment is available. Plasma makes up most of your blood. It’s the fluid that carries everything around the body, including the antibodies which can help the recipient fight infections. Plasma donation is similar to blood donation. In plasma donation, your blood is gradually run through a machine which separates out some of your plasma. Your red blood cells are returned to you, so you can carry on with your day as normal. To help save lives by donating plasma, call 0300 123 23 23, search ‘donate plasma’ or visit www.blood.co.uk/plasma

Feeling the squeeze with bills going Up? Here’s some tips how to save money each month
Working out how to save money each month can seriously increase your contributions to your savings goals. The hardest part? Getting started. Once you’ve found the money-saving tips and tricks that work for you, saving becomes a habit rather than a chore.
With that in mind, let’s look at one saving and budgeting method that may help you reach that 20% savings target. It’s called the 50-3020 rule.
And nothing says “habit” quite like a monthly goal. Setting a target to achieve each month can give you the consistency necessary to build up a healthy savings account over time. Read on to discover the secrets to saving money each month, so you can start improving your financial health today.
If you’re looking for an accessible, easy-to-remember budgeting tool, look no further than the 50-30-20 rule. Created by US Senator Elizabeth Warren when she was a law professor specializing in bankruptcy law, the 50-3020 rule suggests breaking down your monthly expenditures according to the following rules:
How much money should I save each month?
•
50% of your gross income should go towards your needs, e.g., rent, utilities, debt repayments
•
30% should go towards your wants, e.g., eating out, gym subscriptions, holidays
•
20% should go towards your savings goals
How much money you should save each month depends on your lifestyle and expenses. A good target to aim for is 20% of your overall income, but you should feel empowered to start lower if that seems like too much of a stretch. Remember: Every little bit counts. So, how do you know if a 20% savings target is too high or too low? It starts with assessing your current cash flow. Take some time to calculate your monthly income and expenditures — basically, the money coming in and the money going out of your bank account. Keep tabs on any expenses that predictably recur each month, such as your rent, and any that fluctuate based on your spending habits. Before we get into actual savings methods, let’s get something out of the way. Saving money doesn’t have to be painful. In fact, you probably should allow yourself a little wiggle room to enjoy yourself — within reason. If you’re too hard on yourself, you may develop an “all-or-nothing” mentality that ultimately undermines your savings goals. 12

Safety tips for men and women as the nights draw in!
Using taxis safely
Never mind the bloody obvious stuff like 'don't walk round an empty car park, clutching all your valuables in your hands whilst off your face'. Here are some expert tips that will actually help you stay safe.
Always try to share a taxis with a friend. If necessary walk to the nearest taxis office, keeping to well-lit streets and walking against the traffic and in sight of other people whenever possible.
Ultimately, if you’re a victim of crime, it’s only the criminal’s fault that something bad happened to you. However, these expert tips could give you more options if trouble ends up ruining your day or evening.
Always sit in the back of a taxis and if you get chatting to the driver do not give away personal details.
Although women feel more vulnerable when they’re out, it’s actually young men who are a higher risk of violence. Keeping safe whilst walking
Do not hail a taxis from the street or accept a lift from a taxis touting for trade: the driver could be anyone. Book a taxis over the phone and when the taxis arrives ask the driver his name and company. Ask what name he is expecting to collect.
Let a friend know when you get a taxis. Some taxi apps even let you share your journey route. Alternatively, you can download a free tracking app such as Find My Friends which can be useful when you use public transport or when you’re out late/on your own.
Trust your instincts – If you are at all worried, ask the driver to stop in a busy area and get out of the car. If the driver refuses to stop, use a mobile to call the police and alert other drivers and pedestrians by waving or calling If you do get asked for sex by someone slowly out the window. driving their car alongside you, feel free to Safety on public transport report the creep to the police – it’s illegal. Always try to walk facing on-coming traffic to avoid kerb crawlers (men who drive around looking for prostitutes).
If you think you are being followed, trust your instincts and take action. As confidently as you can, cross the road turning as you do to see who is behind you. If you are still being followed, cross again. Keep moving. Make for a busy area and ask for help – for example from a shop keeper.
Have your ticket, pass or change ready in your hand so that your wallet is out of sight.
If a vehicle pulls up suddenly alongside you, turn and walk in the other direction: you can turn much faster than a car.
Avoid empty carriages on trains. Always try to sit where there are lots of people. If you feel uneasy, move to another seat or carriage.
Avoid confrontation. Do not meet aggression with aggression, as this is likely to escalate the situation. Talk your way out of problems, stay calm, speak gently, slowly and clearly. Breathe out slowly to help you relax.
If a bus is empty or it is after dark, stay on the lower deck as near as possible to the driver.
If you are trapped or in danger, yell or scream. Your voice is your best defence. Shout, ‘Phone the police’ or other specific instructions which people can understand easily.
14
Always wait for the bus or train in a well-lit place near other people if possible and try to arrange for someone to meet you at the bus stop or station.
If you feel threatened make as much noise as possible to attract the attention of the driver or guard.
Safety when drinking
Always carry in your pocket:
Drink spiking’ doesn’t just mean date-rape drugs; if someone buys you double shots without telling you, you could easily end up out of control and vulnerable.
A mobile, or at least some spare change to make a phone call.
Always watch your drink, or get your friend to watch it when you go to the toilet If someone offers to buy you a drink, watch them order it at the bar; If you start to feel weird (sick, dizzy, confused) find a friend and tell them.
A couple of numbers for reputable taxis firms in your area/ area you go out. If possible, carry a personal alarm and know how to use it to shock and disorientate an assailant so that you can get away. Stay safe as the darker evening are coming.

Female military police reservist becomes trainee site manager on Forest of Dean development A female military police reservist is one of six new armed forces recruits starting roles this month with the South West's largest housebuilder. Pamela Joseph, 27, from Gloucester, has become the trainee assistant site manager at Merlin Gate, a new development in the Forest of Dean, currently being built by Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes. As well as overseeing the construction across the site, Pamela will be involved in signing off the new show homes on the development, which are due to open on Sunday 11 October. Pamela has been in the Military Police Reserves for nine years, which is a part time role that she will continue alongside her new job. As a military police reservist she provides support to the British Army, covering everything from incident control to arrest and restraint. Her one year traineeship with Barratt and David Wilson Homes will allow her to spend time following her passion for design and construction, as well as develop her career. She begins her role at Merlin Gate, named in celebration of the neighbouring International Centre for Birds of Prey, this month and will shadow the assistant site manager, Trevor Hopkins, also an ex forces veteran, with a 20 year military career.
Teaching weapon training and managing a site might sound very different, but it’s all about communication and managing relationships between individuals from a variety of backgrounds. David Wilson Homes offers great career development opportunities and I’m excited to see where my role takes me.” Barratt Developments runs a range of schemes to support ex armed forces personnel into a career in housebuilding. Many of the skills and experience gained during a military career are directly transferable to the construction industry including leadership, drive and project management. Harlan Bevis, construction director for Barratt David Wilson Homes South West, said: "We are delighted to welcome Pamela and her colleagues to the Barratt David Wilson team and to our fast-growing new development at Merlin Gate, Newent. We know that those who have worked in the armed forces bring great skills, expertise and experience which are invaluable in building not only homes, but communities too." Merlin Gate will offer a range of two, three, four and five-bedroom homes, along with two new play areas and large areas of public open space. 100 new trees are also being planted on and around the site.
Pamela's role is one of up to 700 new jobs New roads on the development will also all supported through Merlin Gate's construction. be named after birds of prey, following Barratt and David Wilson Homes' sponsorship of a merlin at the International Centre for Birds Pamela commented: of Prey last year. White Hart update: We recently spoke to the owners of the dilapidated grade 2 listed former pub, The White Hart, in Brislington Village. The sale has almost gone through to a local developer, who told us he is considering a care home or possibly a hotel for the site, whilst obviously preserving the listed building, which is our top priority. We hope to arrange a meeting with the developer to discuss his plans in more detail and we will of course keep you updated. John Peer factory update: We recently wrote to Sovereign Housing to find out their plans for the derelict John Peer factory site opposite Arnos Court Park. Residents may recall their proposals were refused by the planning committee in March. Sovereign have decided to appeal the decision, with this being submitted to The Planning Inspectorate on 16th September. Sovereign told us they believe that the proposals are of a high quality which accord with planning policy and that the benefits of the proposals significantly outweigh any perceived shortcomings: Delivery of a 100% affordable housing scheme of 146 homes on an allocated housing site at a time when Bristol City Council’s housing waiting list is almost 16,000 households and rising, the council has failed to meet its housing delivery test requirements, and the City is unable to demonstrate a 5 year housing land supply. The proposals are supported by the Council’s Housing Team. 24
The development is in a highly sustainable and accessible location that offers a genuine opportunity to encourage residents to live car free lives, utilising public transport, walking and cycling instead. The high quality scheme would be delivered, owned and managed by Sovereign as a HomesWest Housing Partner of the Council, with the mix of dwellings specifically designed to meet the affordable housing needs of Brislington. A beautiful design that evolved to positively respond to feedback from local stakeholders, which would replace the existing eyesore of a building and positively enhance the local area. A highly sustainable and energy efficient build that reduces residents’ need for energy and positively exceeds the Council’s carbon reduction target via inclusion of air source heat pumps and PV panels. Economic benefits via creation of jobs during construction, but also increasing spending from new residents in the local area (Sandy Park Road etc).
As part of the appeal, a draft legal agreement (a Unilateral Undertaking) includes a commitment from Sovereign to install a ground source heat pump scheme to serve all units, if grant funding of £10,000 per unit is available from the Council as part of Affordable Housing Funding Pot “SGB”. A scheme of ground source heat pumps would be considered by officers to be compliant with Policy BCS14 and the heat hierarchy, and would thus positively address one of the reasons for refusal. Garden waste update: As you may have heard, garden waste collections will resume from next Monday 11 October. Garden sack collections will also resume on this date and are bookable via the Council website www.bristol.gov.uk Collections will take place on the regularly scheduled dates. Anyone wishing to check their collection date can do so using the Collection day finder on the Bristol City Council website. Just click on the ‘Find your bin collection day’ button on the home page. The interim drop-off points will close on Friday 15 October. Bristol City Council will automatically discount the renewal of your subscription to cover the missed collections.
If you are not planning to renew the subscription, please email waste.services@bristol. gov.uk when you receive your next invoice to arrange a refund (for the period the service was paused). Please include your invoice number and the words ‘green waste’ in the subject line. Please remember, bins must not be overfilled so remove some of the waste. This is for the safety of yourself and the crews. Over-filling could also cause your bin to break, or mean the truck is not able to lift it. Community litter pick: Our next community litter pick will be 10am on Saturday, 9 October, meeting at the junction of Whitby Road and Bloomfield Road. This area of the ward is a real litter black spot so hopefully, a good turnout will ensure we make a difference. Hundreds of Brislington West residents have signed up to receive our monthly newsletter via email. You can register using this link: http://www.bristollibdems.org/efocus. Heritage initiative continues to breathe life into Weston town centre
A second business in Weston-super-Mare is set to bring their frontage back to its roots through the Heritage Action Zone’s Shopfront Enhancement Scheme.
Funded by Historic England, the shopfront enhancement scheme is open to priority properties within the High Street Heritage Action Zone in Weston.
The Fork ‘n’ Ale Taproom and Kitchen, an independent restaurant, bar, and music venue based in Weston’s town centre, will be:
Councillor Mark Canniford, Executive Member for Business, Economy and Employment at North Somerset Council, said: “There’s huge potential for economic growth in Weston as more investment is made into heritage and conservation as part of our Placemaking Strategy.
Restoring the frontage of their building to its original facade Re-instating the original stained-glass windows Bringing back to life a parapet that was lost in the early 1980s The Grade II listed building was constructed in the mid-19th Century and has a history of providing ale to locals, with many identities including the Bristol and Exeter, The Town Crier and Bonds. Andrew Bidmead, Landlord of the Fork ‘n’ Ale, said: “This building has played a key part in Weston’s history and community and I’m honoured to be able to bring it back to what it looked like in the 19th Century, with the support of the owners of the building Mark and Martin from Cabot Trustees Ltd, Historic England and North Somerset Council.” 26
“The work being done in the town centre around the shopfront enhancement grant, with the stunning recent renovation of Walker and Ling, a high street department store, is improving the appearance of the town centre which is encouraging more footfall and trade. “It’s fantastic news that another business owner is taking advantage of the scheme and I look forward to seeing more businesses follow suit.” Work on the Fork ‘n’ Ale will start at the beginning of 2022 and is expected to take approximately 6 weeks. Weston is both a Heritage Action Zone and a High Street Heritage Action Zone. Additional shopfront enhancements will be developed in Weston during 2022.

Have your say on proposed changes to town and parish councils in South Glos
South Gloucestershire residents are being given the chance to have their say on proposals around changes to town and parish councils in the area – including the creation of three new councils in Charlton Hayes, Kingswood and Staple Hill & Mangotsfield – via a Community Governance Review (CGR) consultation that launches on 8 October. The CGR will look at current governance structures across various areas and examine how well they serve local democracy within the council area. South Gloucestershire Council’s regulatory committee recently received representations about the unparished areas of South Gloucestershire and concluded that they should be included in the consultation for the wider CGR. It is also proposed that Charlton Hayes, which is currently covered by Patchway, becomes a standalone parished area. In total, three new parished areas are being proposed for: Charlton Hayes Kingswood Staple Hill and Mangotsfield. Residents in these areas will be sent information detailing what is proposed and will also have the opportunity to meet and discuss the consultation changes with Council officers. 28
Cabinet Member for Communities and Local Place Cllr Rachael Hunt said: “This consultation offers an excellent opportunity for our residents to consider the potential benefits of town or parish councils. Being part of a parish gives residents a stronger voice on what happens in their community and enables them to focus on what matters in their local area such as keeping streets clean and tidy, and having flower displays to brighten up community areas.” In addition, there are also smaller changes proposed for existing town and parish councils such as name changes, boundary modifications and reviewing the number of councillors to reflect changes to housing numbers. These proposals have all been developed in collaboration with the relevant town and parish councils. The consultation will go live on 8 October and you can have your say until 31 December. For detailed information including proposed boundary maps, the timeline for changes and for the latest information please follow the South Gloucestershire Council social media on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/ sgloscouncil/ and Twitter https://twitter.com/ sgloscouncil.

WHATS ON AT YOUR LOCAL CINEMA Everyone’s favourite spooky family is back in the animated comedy sequel, The Addams Family 2. In this all new movie we find Morticia and Gomez distraught that their children are growing up, skipping family dinners, and totally consumed with “scream time.” To reclaim their bond they decide to cram Wednesday, Pugsley, Uncle Fester and the crew into their haunted camper and hit the road for one last miserable family vacation. Their adventure across America takes them out of their element and into hilarious run-ins with their iconic cousin, Itt, as well as many new kooky characters. What could possibly go wrong?
ADDAMS FAMILY 2
An epic fantasy adventure based on the timeless Arthurian legend, THE GREEN KNIGHT tells the story of Sir Gawain (Dev Patel), King Arthur’s reckless and headstrong nephew, who embarks on a daring quest to confront the eponymous Green Knight, a gigantic emerald-skinned stranger and tester of men. Gawain contends with ghosts, giants, thieves, and schemers in what becomes a deeper journey to define his character and prove his worth in the eyes of his family and kingdom by facing the ultimate challenger. From visionary filmmaker David Lowery comes a fresh and bold spin on a classic tale from the knights of the round table. The V&A presents Alice: Curiouser and Curiouser, an exclusive private view of the ‘hugely enjoyable and thought-provoking exhibition’ (????? The Guardian) at the V&A in London, filmed especially for the big screen. Take a guided tour ‘down the rabbit hole’ with the V&A Curator Kate Bailey and presenter Andi Oliver as the documentary explores how Alice has become an enduring icon, influencing successive generations and inspiring creativity in fashion, film, photography and on the stage. This special cinema event will bring to life the magical world of a landmark exhibition that charts the evolution of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland from manuscript to a global phenomenon beloved by all ages.

Avon Pension Fund sets ambitious climate change targets and takes steps to mitigate the financial risk of climate change in review of equity portfolio
To ensure Avon maintains its position at the forefront of climate-aware investing, it has today announced that it will be transitioning its entire legacy low carbon equity strategy (~£780m)1 into the recently launched Paris Aligned Benchmark (PAB) developed by FTSE Russell and Brunel Pension Partnership. As well as clearly defined activity-based exclusions in coal, oil and natural gas, the next generation index is designed to reward companies that generate green revenues and those that can demonstrate alignment with the Paris Agreement goals. By investing in the PAB the Fund expects to deliver annual emissions reductions of at least seven per cent per annum. In additional moves to contribute to real world emissions reductions the Fund has introduced two new climate change targets that reflect the Fund’s ambition to become net zero by 2050 and a need to accelerate this trajectory over the next 10 years. The targets will see the Fund reduce its absolute emissions in the equity portfolios by 43% by 2025 and 69% by 2030 compared to its 2020 baseline emissions.
36
Recognising the inherent challenges in managing the financial risk of climate change in emerging markets will also see the Fund reduce its allocation to the asset class, choosing instead to concentrate its engagement efforts in developed markets where most of its capital is allocated. In these markets it can exert a greater influence and significant progress is already being made in collaboration with the Fund’s partners including Brunel Pension Partnership, ClimateAction 100+ and Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change. Commenting on the decision, Avon Pension Fund Committee Chair Councillor Paul Crossley, said: “With the progress Avon has made so far it is essential that we maintain momentum and continue to demonstrate leadership at this critical time. Protecting our assets for the benefit of our members, as well as managing the risks and opportunities that climate change presents, is an extremely complex task but with the most recent changes to our investment strategy I’m confident that we are taking the positive steps necessary to deliver on our pledge to be Paris-aligned across our investment portfolio”.
Shaun Stephenson-McGall, Avon Pension Fund Investment Panel Chair, said: “This is the culmination of a lot of hard work on the part of the Committee and clearly demonstrates how we are actively responding to our members priorities. These changes mark a turning point in the Fund’s approach to climate change as we move towards solutions that offer credible pathways to net zero. It is imperative that we continuously review our progress and I look forward to the next milestone in 2022 where we’ll be taking stock of how our strategy has delivered against its goals with a clear message that divestment remains an option where companies fall short of our expectations. I am immensely proud of the role the Avon Pension Fund Investment Panel has had to play in helping to get this decision across the line”.
David Vickers, Chief Investment Officer at Brunel Pension Partnership, said: “The new indices provide the industry with fresh tools to implement the Paris Agreement. We call on investors to quickly make use of the benchmarks in their quest to support the climate transition.” About Avon Pension Fund The Avon Pension Fund administers the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) for over 120,000 members across 440 employers in the former Avon area. Employers include local unitary councils, universities, academies, town and parish councils, housing associations and charities. The fund is worth £5.0 billion and in the top 100 of pension funds in the UK. The fund is administered by Bath & North East Somerset Council who are legally responsible for the fund. The council delegates its responsibility for administering the fund to the Avon Pension Fund Committee, which is its formal decision-making body.

Climate Adaptation: Accounts of Resilience, Self-Sufficiency and Systems Change ‘Climate Adaptation: Accounts of Resilience, Self-Sufficiency and Systems Change’ is an upcoming publication by the Arkbound Foundation which looks at themes of adaptation, cooperation and socio-economic alternatives to the current model of extraction and exploitation. This publication is written by over 25 authors from around the world, who share their knowledge and expertise, in order to inspire and educate readers. Previously, climate literature has not been representative of international voices, which has meant that our perspectives are limited, which is something we have aimed to combat. ‘Climate Adaptation’ will be published on the 25th October 2021, or you can pre-order here. A selection of our authors include: 1. Vitalie Duporge and Olivia Copsey, who discuss the importance of environmental education and eco-schools. 2. Jane Riddiford, who speaks about ‘Global Generation’, a charity which brings communities in London together to speak about the climate crisis and encourage them to come closer to nature. 3. Rodrigo Machado Moreira, who looks at food systems in Brazil and the need for localisation. ‘This book does not shy away from the fact that Climate Change is real, and that people from all over the world are experiencing its effects right now. We do not have time to wait for governments to make small and insignificant changes and it has been shown throughout the years that the climate crisis is not at the top of their agenda. A time has come where we are unable to rely on those in a position of power and must instead make small changes, from the ground up. This book shows excellent examples of how small community initiatives have inspired bigger changes, so it is important that these stories are heard widely.’ 40

New Technology To Ease Pressure on Charities
Charities face immense silent pressure in providing quality mental health support for the vulnerable people they care about.
Paranimo’s funded pilot study showed 93% of people found the right therapist, with an average reduction of 58% anxiety, 51% irritability, 40% depression and 30% for sleep disturbances after therapy.
Those charities that focus on providing support to vulnerable groups face two key challenges: delivering effective mental health Matthew Vamplew of Paranimo, expresses support and providing effectiveness for raising the importance of modern technology for funds. charities. The baseline of these issues is that there is no matching to therapists, meaning near to no therapeutic fit with many patients. This leads to poorer mental health outcomes for the vulnerable person, and causes therapists to use more sessions, costing the funders more money. If charities cannot prove impact, future funders may be skeptical of the positive outcomes the charity sets out to deliver. 78% of charities believe demonstrating the impact of service delivery on funders is an important strategic priority. This only proves it should be praised and used more by these charities. The outcome of using the correct technologies to match therapists to vulnerable individuals shows improved positive mental health to vulnerable groups charities represent and increased funding potential due to trusty outcomes backed by statistics. 42
“Where charities are typically time poor, not technology focused, and need to prove the measurable impact of their services, the availability of Paranimo’s mental health delivery platform will help such organisations with customer registration, schedule management, payment processing, and video and telephone therapy. This is in addition to easing the challenges associated with finding the right therapist for vulnerable individuals. Existing charity adopters of the Paranimo platform include Care Support Wiltshire and Carers Together, who use Paranimo to support the operational delivery of mental health services. In the next 12 months, Paranimo aims to support hundreds of UK charities to better deliver mental health support for the people they care about.” For more details contact, Matthew.Vamplew@ paranimo.co.uk or click the image above for more details
