Integral Yoga is a scientific system of yoga that comprises several characteristic branches of classical Yoga philosophy and practice. This form of Yoga was introduced to the West by Swami Satchidananda with the first centre founded in 1966. The system is based on interfaith understanding in that all religions share essential universal principles. Integral Yoga practitioners are encouraged to respect and honour the unity in diversity, summarized by Swami Satchidananda’s motto, “Truth is one, paths are many.”

The aim of Integral Yoga is to integrate body, mind, and spirit, using physical practices and philosophical approaches to life. The system includes the practices of asana (yoga postures), pranayama (breathing exercises), and meditation to develop physical and mental stillness by result of which inner peace and joy is achieved. A key premise of this system is that it encourages practitioners to live service-oriented lives. Classes of Integral Yoga are taught around the world; main headquarters are at Satchidananda Ashram–Yogaville in Buckingham, Virginia.

Summer Car Maintenance Checklist By working your way through a summer car maintenance checklist, your car will be prepared for the season’s driving conditions, and keep running as efficiently as possible.

“Some breakdowns aren’t preventable, but..” The roads and weather are very different in summer compared to winter, and journeys are often longer. These factors impact on vehicle performance, as well as wear and tear. During periods of hot weather, some breakdowns aren’t preventable, but if motorists inspect their vehicles regularly, especially before long journeys and in extreme weather conditions, some could be.

Check yourself: 1. All wiper blades for wear or splitting 2. Windscreen washer fluid level and washer jet adjustment 3. Oil and coolant levels following the instructions in the owner’s handbook 4. The electric cooling fan – run the engine until it’s up to temperature and listen for the fan switching on 5. All exterior and interior lights 6. Tyre condition (inc. the spare) for correct pressures and legal tread depth – the current minimum legal tread depth for cars is 1.6mm 7. Jack and wheel brace – make sure they’re in good working order.

engine. • Air Conditioning system for efficency and operation. Baelo Claudia Baelo Claudia was established at the end of the 2nd century to the beginning of the 1st century BC. It was one of the most important towns on the South coast of Baetica. It was established for the purpose of exploiting the tuna which every April to June swarms past the Straits of Gibraltar into the Mediterranean to spawn and in August return again to the Atlantic. These, with other fish abundant in the Straits were caught, salted and packed in Amphorae ready for shipping. Even more important was the by-product of this trade, the making of Garum, a Roman “gentleman’s relish” which, with its associated

sauces of liquamen (similar to garum but made with small fish), Allec, (the dregs of garum) and Muria (the salty liquid used to prepare the sauces), occupied an important position in the daily life if the Romans for whom it replaced salt as a condiment in seasoning a meal, fowl, vegetables and fish. It was probably also used as a drink mixed with honey or wine and was used to cure a variety of diseases affecting all parts of the body of both humans and animals. Spanish producers and merchants exercised a near monopoly over this fish sauce commerce in the Western Mediterranean between 1st and 2nd centuries AD.


Their merchants transported it in specially made amphorae to Italy, Gaul, Africa and the Northern provinces – even to the Roman army in Britain. As well as producing the average quality product, Spain also produced the most famous and expensive “Garum Sociorum”. From classical sources we know that by the late 5th century BC processed fish products were being exported from Spain to Greece by Greek and Punic merchants and Strabo mentions that they were operating in the 1st century BC but no pre-Roman remains have been found at Baelo Claudia and no Roman remains dating before the 1st century AD. The first settlement on the site, now buried below the Marcellum and Basilica at the lower end of the city, was established in the 2nd century BC. It was a simple settlement consisting of fish salting and Garum installations and a few houses. The city developed gradually. From 40-100 AD it constructed its first public buildings. Others were added in three phases. During the reign of Claudius (41-54AD) it became one of Baetica’s ten municipiae whose inhabitants were awarded the Status of Roman Citizens.

Meet the Pipits Tawny Pipit / Bisbita Campestre / Anthus campestris Common summer visitor to dry grassland areas. ID: Slim, similar to a juvenile Yellow Wagtail but with yellowish legs, clean whitish under-parts and plain sandy upperparts. In flight bold wing-covert bars and white outer tail feathers. Distinct pale supercilium and black lores, juveniles have spotted breasts and a streaked mantle.

Meadow Pipit / Bisbita Comun / Anthus pratensis Abundant wintering visitor to grasslands and crops. ID: Olive upperparts with bold dark streaks and pale under-parts with heavy streaking, with pinkish legs. In flight white outer tail feathers, gregarious at times, ground dwelling. Call psit, psit... psit.

Water Pipit / Bisbita Alpino / Anthus spinoletta Scarce winter visitor to wetlands. ID: In winter plumage is similar to a Meadow Pipit but whiter under-parts with more distinct stripes and supercilium. Paler than a Rock Pipit, with whiter wing-bars and tailsides, Breeding plumage displays pinkish under-parts with streaked flanks, grey head and brown mantle.

Bicycle Route El Cabrito – Puerto del Buejo You start the route at the entrance just past the Mirador de El Estrecho, which is off the Algeciras-Tarifa road CN340- (starting here makes the journey upwards easier but leave your car in the Recreational Area Car Park). From the start of the route you will see various routes which take you to the Windmills. One of these routes will guide you to the Ornithological Observatory El Cabrito. Continuing upwards you will find firmer ground in good condition and from here you can look back and enjoy the excellent views of the Island of La Paloma, Tarifa, and also a large area of Los Lances beach. On the way up you will see typical Mediterranean vegetation like young cork oaks and bushes which grow together. As you near the top you can determine which way the wind is blowing (which is a predominant thing in this area) by seeing trees that stand alone or are unprotected buckled downwards which indicate the strength of the wind. Then you need to head for the aerials that dominate the Tajo de la Corza. Once at the top the Windmills are on your left-hand side. When you head downwards again the path becomes loose and stony and it is not so firm as going up, so you need to be careful. On your right you follow the route for Río Guadalmesí, which finishes where the Guadalmesí route starts. The vegetation is more luxuriant and in the surrounding area of streams you can see authentic Ojaranzos, Alders, Ashes and Gall Oaks. Away on the coast you can see the tower of Guadalmesí which protected the villages from pirates in the olden days. Then on the final descent you will reach the recreational area of El Bujeo and from there the CN340 nearer to Algeciras. Level: Low Time: 1-1.30Hrs Length: 9Km Area: Tarifa Autorisation Needed: NO

If you have to leave your dog outside, you must provide a cool shady spot where he/ she can escape from the sun at all times of the day with a good supply of drinking water, in a weighted bowl that can’t be knocked over. Dogs are more prone to heat stroke because they don’t sweat like us, they mainly cool themselves through panting. Doggy pools are a great way to help cool them down. Fence off big pools to avoid drowning, unless there are shallow areas for them to climb out of easily. Never leave your dog in a car, glass conservatory or a caravan and groom him/her regularly to get rid of excess hair. Your dog will still need to be exercised every day, so walk him/her early in the morning or later in the evening when it’s cooler. Never allow your dog to exercise excessively in hot weather. Keep off hot pavement, black asphalt attracts the suns UV rays and traps heat, making the surface temperature skyrocket. If you pet steps on hot pavement, he could burn his paws. Fortify against fleas and ticks, make sure your dog or cat is on proper flea medication since these pesky pests thrive in warm temperatures.
