Simonischek began studying architecture at the Technical University in Graz, and simultaneously studied dentistry at the urging of his father. His real passion, however, was acting, and he had already been active in the school drama club while attending boarding school at the Stiftsgymnasium St Paul in Lavanttal. Secretly, he began studying drama at the Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Graz,

Since the 1999/2000 season, Simonischek has been a member of the ensemble of the Vienna Burgtheater. Since 1982 he has received major roles at the Salzburg Festival, and from 2002 until 2009, played the title role in Hugo von Hofmamnnsthal´s Jedermann.

The actors love life has stirred up quite a commotion, and not just on the stage of Salzburg´s Cathedral Square, when he looked deeply into the eyes of his paramour, the „Buhlschaft“, and professed his undying love.

He was one of today´s most wellknown Austrian actors. But actually, the career path of this Graz native was supposed to have taken a completely different turn; his father, a dentist, wanted his son to study medicine instead.
