In its exhibitions venues, LAC and Palazzo Reali, it promotes exhibition projects aimed at exploring modern and contemporary art, as well as its permanent collection – whose works range from the early fifteenth century until today.
Il Museo d’arte della Svizzera italiana nasce dall’unione del Museo Cantonale d’Arte e del Museo d’Arte di Lugano. Es organisiert in seinen zwei Gebäuden LAC und Palazzo Reali Ausstellungen der Moderne und der Gegenwartkunst sowie der eigener Sammlung, deren Werke von Anfang des XV Jahrhundert bis heute reichen.

In collaboration with the Archivio Storico della Città di Lugano, MASI Lugano presents a major monographic exhibition dedicated to Vincenzo Vicari, a dexterous photographer from the Canton of Ticino who worked in the city of Lugano from 1936 onwards, recording every-day life and the inevitable changes of his time.
In collaborazione con l’Archivio Storico della Città di Lugano, il MASI presenta una grande mostra monografica dedicata a Vincenzo Vicari, fotografo ticinese attivo a Lugano dal 1936. La mostra consente di ripercorrere la carriera dell’artista che ha documentato la trasformazione del territorio ticinese e dei suoi abitanti.

Zusammen mit dem Historischen Archiv der Stadt Lugano widmet das MASI dem in Lugano ab 1936 tätigen Tessiner Fotografen Vincenzo Vicari eine Einzelausstellung. Die Ausstellung beleuchtet der künstlerischen Arbeit des Künstlers, der wie kein anderer die Veränderung des Tessins und seiner Menschen dokumentiert hat.

The exhibition presents a selection of artworks produced throughout Mazzuchelli’s career right up to the present day. The exhibition, that comprises mainly large-format works, highlights the various techniques used by the artist.
La mostra presenta una selezione di opere che spaziano dagli esordi negli anni Settanta fino ai giorni nostri. L’allestimento, che si compone prevalentemente di opere di grande formato, evidenzia, inoltre, le varie tecniche impiegate da Mazzuchelli.

Die Ausstellung zeigt eine Auswahl an vorwiegend grossformatigen Werken aus Mazzuchellis künstlerischen Anfängen in den 70er-Jahren bis heute und hebt zudem die verschiedenen von ihm verwendeten Techniken hervor.

The Hermann Hesse Museum in Montagnola, the first of its kind and the only one in Switzerland, was inaugurated on July 2, 1997 in occasion of the 120th anniversary of the writer’s birth and preserves precious tokens of the last 43 years of life of the artist and painter, who died in Montagnola in 1962. His works have been translated in 60 languages; 150 million copies have been published globally.

On display there are sketches and illustrations by Gunter Böhmer, a graphic designer and illustrator who was Inspired by his friend’s famous story, “Klingsor’s Last Summer” written in 1920. The original plates were destroyed during a bombardment in 1944 and the complete publication never saw the light of day.
Esposti in mostra, schizzi e illustrazioni, che Gunter Böhmer, grafico e illustratore amico di Hesse, realizzò ispirandosi al suo celebre racconto “L’ultima estate di Klingsor” del 1920. Le lastre originali andarono distrutte in un bombardamento nel 1944 e la pubblicazione completa non vide mai la luce.

Es werden Probe-Drucke, Skizzen und Entwürfe, die der Maler, Grafiker, Illustrator und Hesse-Freund Gunter Böhmer inspiriert von der bekannten Erzählung “Klingsors letzter Sommer” kreiert hat, ausgestellt. Die Original-Druckplatten wurden 1944 bei einem Bombenangriff zerstört, so dass das Buch nie erscheinen konnte.
Illustrations et croquis, créés par Gunter Böhmer, graphiste et illustrateur ami de Hesse, sont exposés dans cette exhibition, inspirés de sa célèbre nouvelle « Le dernier été de Klingsor » de 1920. In Japanese tradition, “kakemono” are vertical paintings on paper or silk. They are kept rolled up or hung in houses, following the time of year or the various occasions. The exhibition presents 90 “kakemono” illustrating the different schools of Japanese painting.
Nella tradizione giapponese i “kakemono” sono dipinti verticali su carta o seta. Sono conservati arrotolati o appesi nelle case a seconda del periodo dell’anno o dell’occasione. La mostra propone ben 90 “kakemono” delle diverse scuole della pittura giapponese.

“Namads” are impressive carpets made from felted wool, created by nomadic peoples of central Asia to decorate their interior spaces. This very ancient tradition displays fine ornamental motifs, both figurative and symbolic.

«Namaden» sind imposante Teppiche aus gefilzter Wolle, die von den Nomadenvölkern Zentralasiens zur Dekoration ihrer Wohnräume geschaffen wurden. Die in einer sehr alten Technik hergestellten Filze überraschen durch ihre prächtigen ornamentalen Motive, die auf halbem Wege zwischen figurativen und symbolischen Ausdruck liegen.

The Malcantone has a subsoil rich in minerals, and various metals such as iron, lead, silver, and gold, extracted already in the 18th century. This tunnel, known as the “Leonilde”, is now open to the public to explore the spectacular and characteristic elements of the mining world. The Sessa mine is unique, offering the only possibility to experience the history of the extraction of gold minerals in Switzerland.
Il Malcantone ha un sottosuolo ricco di minerali, si suppone che già nei secoli passati si estraessero vari metalli, in particolare oro, argento, ferro, e piombo. La galleria, chiamata Leonilde, consente oggi di scoprire gli elementi più spettacolari e caratteristici del mondo minerario. La miniera rappresenta l’unica esperienza possibile per vivere la storia della coltivazione e dell’estrazione di minerali auriferi in Svizzera.

The Historical Archive of Lugano preserves documentary collections, photographs, engravings, books and periodicals. The documents include the papers produced by the Patriziato of Lugano and the municipal administration, as well as by other institutions or private individuals. Of particular interest is the fonds of the Lugano photographer Vincenzo Vicari, composed of more than 200,000 pictures.

The forge, built in 1860, is the only one of its type still in existence in Switzerland. Here locals produced iron tools like scythes, sickles, shovels, spades and hoes. In 1992 the “Fondazione del Maglio del Malcantone” restored it in order to preserve some local history for the future generations of Malcantone.
Il Maglio del Malcantone è l’unico esemplare a leva attualmente esistente in Svizzera. L’edificio, costruito nel 1860, ospitava un’officina dove si lavorava il ferro per ricavarne attrezzi e oggetti di uso comune. Nel 1992 la “Fondazione Maglio del Malcantone” ristrutturò l’officina e l’edificio per tramandare ai posteri parte della storia del Malcantone.
Der Maglio del Malcantone ist zurzeit die einzige Hammerschmiede der Schweiz mit einem Schwenkhammer. Das im Jahre 1860 erbaute Gebäude beherbergte eine Werkstatt, in der Eisen zur Herstellung von Werkzeugen und Alltagsgegenständen verarbeitet wurde. Im Jahr 1992 renovierte die „Fondazione Maglio del Malcantone“ die Hammerschmiede und das Gebäude, um den Nachfahren einen Teil der Geschichte des Malcantone zu übermitteln.
Construit en 1860, ce marteau-pilon est l’unique exemplaire à levier qui existe actuellement en Suisse. Dans cet atelier on travaillait le fer pour en tirer des outils et plusieurs objets d’usage commun. En 1992, la « Fondazione Maglio del Malcantone » remit l’édifice et son atelier en état afin de transmettre à la postérité l’histoire du Malcantone.

Il Museo presenta oltre un centinaio di questi attori di legno che dal 1966, grazie a Michel e Michèle Poletti, si sono esibiti sulla scena internazionale. Lo spazio espositivo accoglie anche altre prestigiose marionette affidate da diversi collezionisti. Il Museo è attualmente aperto solo su richiesta per visite-spettacolo.
Im Museum sind mehr als hundert hölzerne Schauspieler ausgestellt, die seit 1966 von Michel und Michèle Poletti für ihre Theateraufführungen verwendet wurden. Außerdem sind auch kostbare Puppen aus anderen Sammlungen zu sehen. Gegenwärtig ist die Ausstellung Besuchern nur durch eine Anmeldung für Führung mit Demonstration zugänglich.

Since its inauguration in 2015, LAC has distinguished itself as a creative and tireless promoter of artistic expression through dance and theater both at home and abroad.

Lugano’s summer provides the scintillating backdrop to these much-loved events which are popular with devotees of classical music from all over the world.
Il silenzio in sala si fa quasi assordante e un attimo dopo le note dei più celebri brani di musica classica riempiono l’aria: da Paganini a Bach, passando per gli altri grandi maestri del presente e del passato, i festival musicali sono una rassegna imperdibile per gli appassionati del genere. LuganoMusica’s offer for the season 2020-21 associates some of the masterpieces of the repertoire with lesser-known works, entrusted to some of the world’s best performers. Valery Gergiev will open the season with the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra. He will be followed, amongst others, by Kit Armstrong, the Tonhalle Orchestra conducted by Paavo Järvi, Maria João Pires, Riccardo Muti and Maurizio Pollini, András Schiff, Denis Matsuev, Daniil Trifonov, Philippe Jordan with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and Daniele Gatti.
