A pinnacle of enjoyment Lugano’s home mountain and pinnacle of enjoyment – that’s San Salvatore! The striking mountain south of the town boasts 360° views over the lake and environs, far south and to the high Alps in the west.

Der Zuckerhut Der Hausberg von Lugano – der markante Zuckerhut San Salvatore im Süden der Stadt bietet eine vielfältige 360° Sicht über den See, weit in den Süden und zu den Hochalpen im Westen.
Le pain de sucre San Salvatore est le mont emblématique de Lugano : également appelé « pain de sucre », ce mont imposant au sud de la ville offre une vue à 360° sur le lac et plus loin vers le sud et les HautesAlpes à l’ouest.

The funicular is only 500 m from the motorway exit Lugano-Sud and 5 minutes from the Paradiso-Lugano Railway Station; it offers easy parking and reaches the mountain top in just 10 minutes with panoramic views from the carriages. The 360 degree panoramic views from the observation terrace are hard to beat and reach from Lake Lugano over the Po Valley to the peaks of the Swiss and Savoy Alps.
La funicolare si trova a 500 m dall’uscita autostradale Lugano Sud e a 5 minuti dalla stazione FFS di Paradiso-Lugano. Offre un comodo parcheggio e raggiunge la vetta in soli 10 minuti. Qui il panorama a 360° è quasi indescrivibile e si estende dal lago di Lugano alla Pianura padana, per terminare con le vette delle Alpi svizzere e savoiarde.

Die Standseilbahn liegt 500 m von der Autobahnausfahrt Lugano-Sud und 5 Gehminuten vom SBB-Bahnhof Paradiso entfernt und verfügt über einen günstig gelegenen Parkplatz. Die Fahrt mit dem Panoramawagen zum Gipfel dauert 10 Minuten. Das 360-Grad-Panorama von der Aussichtsterrasse aus ist nur schwer zu übertreffen und reicht vom Luganersee über die Poebene bis zu den Gipfeln der Schweizerund Savoyer Alpen.

From the top, you can also walk down along the scenic trail that leads to Carona.

The Sunniest mountain in Switzerland Standing at 925 m, Monte Brè is considered the sunniest mountain in Switzerland. At the top of the sun-kissed mountain, visitors can find two restaurants with terrace where visitors can have an awe-inspiring view of the Lake of Lugano.

Since 1908 Mount Brè’s cable car has been part of Lugano’s history. The trip is divided into two parts and in just 10 minutes, you can reach to the top of Mount Brè.

Seit 1908 ist die Standseilbahn Monte Brè Teil der Geschichte von Lugano. Bequem und entspannt gelangt man über die zweiteilige Strecke in etwas mehr als zehn Minuten auf den höchsten Punkt des Monte Brè.
Depuis 1908 le funiculaire du Monte Brè appartient à l’histoire de Lugano. Le trajet se divise en deux tronçons et le funiculaire conduit ses passagers directement sur la cime du Monte Brè en un peu plus de dix minutes.

For more than 125 years now, the cogwheel railway has been running along a 9 km stretch of the picturesque mountain scenery of the Monte Generoso Natural Park, from Capolago on Lake Lugano to the peak at an altitude of 1,704 m. The steam train from 1890 is the oldest one still in operation in Switzerland and the trains from the 1950s take the passengers back to the times of the Belle Époque.

Die Zahnradbahn fährt seit über 125 jahren von Capolago am Luganersee über eine Strecke von 9 km durch die zauberhafte Berglandschaft des Naturschutzgebiets auf den 1‘704 m hohen Gipfel des Monte Generoso. E Things to do Many popular activities can be practiced on Monte Generoso, such as mountain biking, paragliding, snowshoeing, but also birdwatching. At the top you can visit (by appointment) the observatory and the Cave Bear, walk the path of the planets or the path of Nevère. You can also arrange guided tours in the area to enjoy nature and the traces left by the man who lived in the mountains. On Monte Generoso there are still some active farmers selling fresh products. Not to be missed 1 “Fiore di pietra”: a unique 0 work of architecture by architect Mario Botta, built in 2017. The gastronomy concept and interior design for the cozy “Generoso” self-service restaurant with a terrace, the “Fiore di pietra” restaurant and the “Belvedere” conference room make the top of the Monte Generoso a unique place. 2 Astronomical Observatory: 0 houses a telescope of 61 cm in diameter and was inaugurated by a very special patron, the astrophysicist Margherita Hack from the University of Trieste, on 26 august 1996. This
unique observatory is open to visitors for observation of the skies on the Theme Evenings, and of solar activity every Sunday from june to September between 14:30 and 17:30. 3 The Bear Cave (I): the cave 0 was discovered in 1988 and is located on Italian soil, about 30-minute walk from the “Fiore di pietra” building. The “Bear cave is the site of important finds of the remains of more than 800 cave bears that lived on Monte Generoso some 60,000 years ago, and later became extinct. 4 The Nevère (Ice Pit): are cy0 lindrical stone constructions, two thirds of which are underground, with a cone-shaped roof covered with limestone slabs. In this karst environment, the nevère were filled with snow during the winter and served as a cool place to store milk in the summer before it was made into butter. 5 “Via ferrata”: the climbing 0 route is secured by steel ropes in some places and equipped with ladders in others. Mountain lovers will find a perfect middle ground here between climbing and hiking. Suitable for adults and children aged 8 and above. 59

In vetta è possibile visitare (su prenotazione) l’osservatorio astronomico e la Grotta dell’Orso, percorrere il sentiero dei pianeti o ancora il sentiero delle Nevère. Nella grotta è stato ritrovato un importante giacimento di reperti di oltre 800 orsi delle caverne vissuti ed estinti sul Monte Generoso circa 60’000 anni fa. 4 Le Nevère: sono costruzioni 0 in sasso di forma cilindrica, interrata per due terzi, con un tetto conico coperto da lastre di calcare. In inverno veniva-
no riempite di neve cosi che durante l’estate, il contadino, in questo ambiente carsico, poteva disporre di un locale fresco dove conservare il latte prima di essere trasformato in burro. 5 La via ferrata: s’inerpica 0 lungo le rocce, assicurata mediante funi di ferro e, nei punti necessari, attrezzata con scalette offrendo agli appassionati di montagna una via di mezzo tra le escursioni alpine e le arrampicate sportive. Il percorso inizia a 1’704 m di altitudine e ha una durata di circa 3 ore. 61

D Aktivitäten Viele verschiedene Aktivitäten können auf dem Monte Generoso ausgeübt werden: Mountainbiken, Gleischirmfliegen, Schneeschuhlaufen oder auch Birdwatching. Auf dem Gipfel kann man nach Vereinbarung die Sternwarte und die Bärenhöhle besuchen. Auch ein Spaziergang entlang des Planetenweges und des Nevère-Pfades lohnt sich. Sie können auch eine geführte Tour buchen. Auf dem Monte Generoso sind auch heute noch einige Bauern tätig, die ihre frischen Produkte verkaufen. Nicht zu verpassen 1 „Fiore di pietra”: ein einzigar0 tiges architektonisches Werk gezeichnet von Mario Botta im 2017. Gastronomie und Architektur vereinen sich in diesem Projekt und kommen im Self-Service Restaurant „Generoso” mit Terrasse und im à-la-carte Restaurant „Fiore di pietra” zum Ausdruck. 2 Die Sternwarte: Das Teleskop 0 von 61 cm Durchmesser wurde am 26. August 1996 von einer prominenten Patin eingeweiht: die Astrophysikerin Margherita Hack von der Universität Triest. Es werden Themenabende zum
Bewundern des Sternenhimmels geboten sowie die Möglichkeit zum Beobachten der Sonne jeden Sonntag von 14:30 bis 17:30 Uhr. 3 Die Bärenhöhle (I): die 1988 0 entdeckte Höhle befindet sich rund 30 Fussminuten vom „Fiore di pietra“ entfernt auf der italienischen Seite des Berges. Die Bärenhöhle ist ein wichtiger Fundort der Überreste von über 800 Höhlenbären, die vor rund 60‘000 jahren auf dem Monte Generoso gelebt haben und später ausgestorben sind. 4 Le Nevère (Eisgruben): sind 0 runde Steinbauten mit einem kegelförmigen Dach aus Kalksteinplatten. Sie befinden sich zu 2/3 unter der Erdoberfläche. Im Winter wurden die Nevère mit Schnee gefüllt und in den Sommermonaten dienten sie den Bauern als Kühlräume für die Aufbewahrung der Milch, bevor sie zu Butter verarbeitet wurde. 5 „Via ferrata”: der Klettersteig 0 bietet Bergbegeisterten eine Kostprobe des Kletterns. Der Weg ist für Erwachsene und Kinder ab 8 jahren geeignet, beginnt auf 1'704 m Höhe und dauert rund drei Stunden.

té de Trieste. La contemplation du firmament lors des soirée à thème et l’observation du soleil chaque dimanche de juin à septembre de 14:30 à 17:30, sont des évènements à ne pas manquer. 3 Caverne de l’ours (I) : décou0 verte en 1988, se trouve sur le versant italien du Monte Generoso, à quelque 30 minutes de marche du « Fiore di pietra ». Elle abrite un important gisement d’ossements de plus de 800 ours des cavernes ayant vécu, puis disparu sur le Monte Generoso il y a environ 60’000 ans. 4 Les Glacières : la nevèra est 0 une construction circulaire en pierre, creusée aux deux-tiers dans la roche et munie d’un toit conique en dalles de calcaire. L’hiver, on remplissait ces glacières de neige afin de disposer, l’été venu, d’un endroit frais pour conserver le lait avant de le transformer en beurre. 5 « Via ferrata » : sécurisée 0 par des câbles d’acier et, à certains endroits, équipée d’échelles, la Via Ferrata offre un mélange parfait de randonnée alpine et d’escalade. Accessible aux adultes et aux enfants à partir de 8 ans, le parcours démarre à 1’794 m d’altitude et dure environ 3 heures. 64

Spread over four floors, the large variety of animals that lived 245 to 180 million years ago, in the erstwhile sea and on the coast of southern Ticino are exhibited. 2 Geo-Paleontological 0 Path (CH/I): a circular learning trail covers the complex geo-paleontological history of Monte San Giorgio. A visit allows you to discover an amazing lost world dating back 240 milion years, with the fossil-finds to date being among the most important in the world.
