Discover Goodwill Hosts a Monumental Celebration! Surrounding businesses and street curbsides quickly transformed to overflow parking for dozens of vehicles during the January 24 Grand Opening of Discover Goodwill’s Monument Retail Center. President and CEO Karla Grazier kicked off the festivities by thanking the Tri-Lakes community for their kind reception and tremendous support of Discover Goodwill. “Our longstanding presence in this region operating an attended donation center has underscored two important facts: This community knows how to champion a good cause and always welcomes a cause for celebration!” Grazier declared. Following Karla’s remarks, and those of several attending civic leaders and community partners, a short ribbon-cutting ceremony incorporating a “clothes line” of donated items provided the perfect segue for the crowd of awaiting shoppers, who poured through the doors and began carting off great deals and fabulous prizes from generous community partners, such as CHEFS Catalog and Tech for Less. The unseasonably warm weather ideally accommodated thousands of patrons who enjoyed a day-long, “frozen” flurry of fun and activities—including special appearances from Disney blockbuster Frozen’s singing siblings, Elsa and Ana (portrayed by volunteers), personalized cartoon drawings, face painting, balloons, hot dogs and candy, Shriner clowns, and a sax-and-keys serenade from resident musicians “All That Jazz.” Local TV and radio stations also were on hand to cover the big event for their followers. A big “thank you” to the many employees, volunteers and community supporters who made our Grand Opening a “monumental” success!

Kids Doing Great Things: Pursuits “Dream Team” Celebrates Graduation In late January, a group of nine young adults with learning challenges took a giant step closer to “living the dream,” as they graduated from Discover Goodwill’s Pursuits program after a 16-week journey—exploring and preparing for life after high school. The self-proclaimed “Dream Team” focused on building core life skills to help them reach their full potential and achieve their greatest ambitions. Students learned how to stay healthy, provide for themselves, manage their money, interview for jobs and establish successful work behaviors. Congratulations graduates for pursuing your dreams and making them a reality!
