DUINO –The sky over Duino

Gli angeli saranno gli inediti protagonisti dell’estate a Duino.

Il delizioso borgo alle porte di Trieste dominato dal Castello dei Thurn und Taxis e da un sentiero di rara bellezza intitolato al grande poeta Rainer Maria Rilke sarà il palcoscenico di un Festival inedito dove Rilke incontrerà Dante per dare vita ad una rassegna tutta dedicata agli angeli.

A ispirare il singolare filo conduttore del Festival è l’invocazione agli angeli delle famose Elegie scritte a Duino dal poeta praghese. Il Duino&Book/ Festival degli Angeli è la seconda parte di un itinerario iniziato a maggio e suddiviso in tre distinte fasi (Pietre, Angeli e Vini) che caratterizzeranno otto mesi di numerose iniziative sul territorio. A promuovere l’iniziativa è il Duino&Book, che per il mese di luglio indagherà in particolare sul tema del divino attraverso mostre, incontri letterari, performance teatrali, degustazioni e dirette sulle piattaforme social.

La rassegna estiva si snoderà in luoghi suggestivi come la Chiesa di San Giovanni in Tuba presso le risorgive del Timavo, il mitico fiume sotterraneo, già celebrato in tempi antichi da Virgilio. In

questo affascinante contesto il Festival propone un concerto di musica sacra dedicato agli angeli e un incontro sul mondo della Bibbia.

Anche il Castello di Duino aprirà le porte alle creature celesti con una serie di mostre tematiche.

Ma non solo. In programma degustazioni con i vini degli angeli, mentre ai più piccoli saranno dedicate le letture di fiabe al mare, per ricordarci che i libri sono gli speciali angeli custodi che ci guidano fin dall’infanzia.

L’altro grande protagonista del Festival duinese sarà Dante, nell’anno del 700esimo anniversario dalla sua morte. Da non perdere la lettura di brani scelti della Divina Commedia da parte dei produttori del Carso che, nella suggestiva cornice delle loro vigne, declameranno i versi danteschi.

In questo itinerario sospeso tra cielo e terra, tra divino e umano non poteva mancare la visita guidata del gruppo speleologico Flondar ad uno dei luoghi più misteriosi del territorio, la Grotta del Mitreo, una cavità naturale dove nell’antichità si praticava il culto al dio Mitra.

Gli incontri con gli scrittori saranno uno dei momenti centrali del Festival degli Angeli, per portarci attraverso le parole al mondo delle emozioni e del pensiero, della scienza e della religione e tenere aperti i corridoi che mettono in contatto gli uomini con il mondo dell’invisibile.

Al genio praghese, infine, è intitolata anche la prima edizione del Premio Internazionale “Rainer Maria Rilke”, un concorso di opere di poesie in tutte le lingue promosso dal Duino&Book, con il patrocinio di numerose e prestigiose istituzioni consolari. The summer of Duino will be featuring angels’ wings of desire of its own. This charming town just outside Trieste – with its Castle, once residence of the von Thurn und Taxis family, and Sentiero Rilke, named after Bohemian-Austrian poet and novelist Rainer Maria Rilke, offering a scenic view of the Gulf below will host the exceptional encounter of Rilke and Dante, in a festival entirely dedicated to angels. Organisers were inspired by Rainer Maria Rilke’s angel invocation in his famous Duino Elegies. The Duino&Book/Angels Festival is the second milestone of an eight-month itinerary that started in May and includes various events taking place throughout the whole region, all pertaining to one of the three keywords Stones, Angels, Wine. Initiative promoter Duino&Book is also dedicating the entire month of July to the topic of “the divine” through exhibits, readings, performances, tastings, and live streams on social platforms. Events will take place in some of the most evocative and beautiful locations of this area, such as the Church of San Giovanni in Tuba at the springs of the underground river Timav, a mythical waterway celebrated for centuries by great poets like Virgil. More specifically, the church will host a concert of sacred music pieces devoted to the angels, as well as a lecture on the world of the Bible.

Duino Castle will also open its doors to a series of exhibits dedicated to these celestial creatures.

And there is more: tasting sessions of the angels’ wine, and, for our younger guests, fairytale readings at the seaside a way to remind us all that books are our guardian angels starting from childhood. The Festival’s guest of honour is Dante Alighieri, as Italy dedicates this entire year to the 700th anniversary of his death. Do not miss the exceptional opportunity of listening to a number of selected passages from the Divine Comedy surrounded by sweet-scented vines, as Karst winemakers open their vineyards to the public to host a series of Dante readings.

This itinerary suspended between the Earth and the Heavens, the mortal and the divine, simply had to include a visit to one of the most mysterious places in this area, namely Grotta del Mitreo a natural cavern, where worshippers of the god Mithras used to perform their rituals in ancient times. Guided tours are organised by the Flondar Speleologic Group.

One of the Angels Festival’s high points is a series of encounters between writers and the general public, during which words will act as guides through the world of thought and emotion, science and religion, on the path that connects real life to the invisible.

Finally, the Festival will host the very first edition of the Rainer Maria Rilke International Award, a multilingual poetry contest promoted by Duino&Book, with the prestigious sponsorship of numerous consular institutions.
