On land, air and sea, discover the action-packed ways our everyday heroes rescue those in need! Rescue is coming to DISCOVERY Children’s Museum from January 28, 2017 to May 7, 2017! Rescue is an interactive and engaging exhibition that allows visitors to experience and learn about high-intensity rescue scenarios carried out by emergency personnel of the air, land and sea. Developed by Scitech in Perth, Australia and produced by Imagine
Exhibitions, this exhibition is designed to provide an accurate reflection of the technological tools and vital skills utilized by rescue teams in emergency situations of all kinds.
Rescue focuses heavily on visitor interaction and engagement, allowing guests to simulate participation in various rescue scenarios. Visitors are invited to not only discover how rescue technology works, but also understand the skills and training required by rescuers assisting those
The exhibition design is real, relevant and interactive, and offers visitors a unique experience for those who dare to enter the earthquake-damaged entrance. Captivating exhibits throw visitors straight into the thrall of emergency scenarios and engage all ages. With full-body exhibits and interactive computer-based and tabletop exhibits, Rescue caters for whole-family interaction and teamwork.

WYNN LAS VEGAS The Magic of Discovery Gala is our largest fundraiser of the year providing critical mission-based funding for our programs, exhibits, and outreach. On October 15, 2016, DISCOVERY Children’s Museum held The Magic of Discovery Gala at Wynn Las Vegas. DISCOVERY Children’s Museum was honored to present the 17th Annual Great Friend to Kids Award to Wynn Las Vegas for their exceptional contributions towards strengthening education and improving the lives of
children. Museum Board President, Shari Wong, shared that “Wynn’s generous funding of the Museum’s arts and educational outreach programs will have a lasting and positive impact on children. The time and talent that Wynn employees have volunteered to DISCOVERY Children’s Museum have been invaluable.” We are grateful for our co-chairs Carrie Carter Cooper and Stacie Truesdell Michaels for their leadership, our Board of Trustees for their unwavering support, and our generous Gala Committee members, volunteers, and partners who made this magical evening come alive. Nellie is distraught and on a quest to find her missing green treasure, a special gift that she and her school mates brought for their favorite teacher. Nellie searches high and low to find the missing treasure and along the way, she learns a lot about nature, her neighborhood and community helpers.
e Are My Eyes Playing Tricks? e
Experience some cool optical illusions, learn how the brain and eyes work together to allow us to “see.” This experience will definitely make you question whether you saw what you thought you saw.

Experience how the heart works while exploring the four chambers and their purposes. Learn some fun facts about your heart and how to keep it healthy.

DNA detectives are also known as Forensic Scientists who use DNA, not only to catch the bad guy, but also to help find missing people. Learn all about DNA and how it can be used to solve complicated mysteries. Stop in and help us solve one of our greatest mysteries! Visit Toddler Town (TT), Young At Art (YAA), It’s Your Choice (IYC), Patents Pending (PP) and Solve It! to participate in engaging and integrated arts and science activities and experiences. TT features experiences developmentally appropriate for our youngest visitors, those 5 years and younger. All other areas feature experiences designed for a variety of ages, including adults!

TT – Celebrate Rosa Parks’ contributions to the Civil Rights Movement through artwork that honors her legacy. YAA – African American contemporary artist Martin Puryear is known for his visibly complex sculpting style. Discover what types of materials he manipulates and construct your own sculpture influenced by his technique! IYC – Make Plasma Soup and explore the components of blood just like Charles Drew.
e February 11 – February 17 e Celebrating Louis Armstrong, Sam Gilliam, and Matthew Cherry
TT – Design a magical musical scene in admiration of Louis Armstrong’s contribution to Jazz music. YAA - Abstract artist Sam Gilliam is known for the explosive use of color in his work. Learn about Color Field painting and create your own abstract work of art! PP – Matthew Cherry developed two devices that would one day evolve into very useful items for transportation. Design your own 2 or 3-wheeled invention to put to the test on the race track.
TT – Create a beautiful self-portrait using a variety of collage materials. YAA – Embrace your creative expression! Create a selfportrait using a variety of collage materials. IYC – Discover yourself through genetics as you create a self-portrait collage.

This event addresses the growing issues of childhood obesity and poor nutrition, as well as, raises awareness and provides solutions for this urgent problem. In this initiative, There will be information and materials related to healthy eating and nutrition. This event directly involves children in demonstrations and lessons on how to select and prepare healthy, affordable, meals and snacks.
TT – In celebration of National Nutrition Month®, speed up your fine motor skills while using lacing cards shaped like running shoes! YAA – Encourage others to get fit during National Nutrition Month® and make art showcasing your favorite outdoor activity! IYC – Discover the difference between aerobic exercise versus anaerobic exercises as you get active.

Ugandan Kid’s Choir Will Perform in Las Vegas at the Museum! Please join us on March 4, 2017 for two special performances by the Ugandan Kid’s Choir in Fantasy Festival at 12:00pm and 2:00pm. We are happy to welcome the choir to Discovery Children’s Museum as they tour the United States sharing their message of hope and love through traditional music and dance. The choir is made up of 10 sponsored children who are from different areas in Uganda. The children are chosen for their enthusiasm, ability, and dedication; traits which make them potential leaders when they return to their communities. They are eager to perform and provide opportunities to help poor children around the world, and end poverty, hunger and corruption. We are honored to have them perform in our museum in the Las Vegas community.
