4th February 2005 Mr. David Thompson 65 Cloudesdale Road London SW17 8ET
Dear David District 71 Conference November 10th -12th 2006. On behalf of Nenagh Toastmasters Club, I am pleased to enclose our bid for the Autumn Conference 2006. We plan to ensure that there are 4 education slots, which gives toastmasters a chance to attend 2 of them. For non-toastmasters and for those who do not wish to avail of this, we will arrange a tour of the locality including a visit to two of our local craft industries – Puckane Crafts and Hanly’s Woollen Mills. To make it easier for UK Toastmasters, we have included in our overheads a shuttle service (to meet flights) depending on demand, to ferry toastmasters from Shannon Airport to the hotel. Shannon Airport is now a gateway for many UK Airports to Ireland. We will run this on the Friday and Saturday from Shannon and on Sunday from Nenagh to Shannon. Also to make it easier for UK Toastmasters (and indeed Irish Toastmasters) we will be able to offer a Visa/MasterCard Payment service for bookings. This will help with currency conversions, as payment in euro’s is converted at a fairly reasonable rate to sterling (for debiting UK sterling accounts) by the Visa/MasterCard authorities. In our Conference Sub Committee, we have a range of experienced toastmasters, some of whom have achieved ATM (B). We will enlarge this committee as necessary in the lead up to the event. In our various packages we have taken into account the deal we have struck with the management of the Abbey Court Hotel on pricing for the whole weekend. We will have exclusive use of the whole hotel and the cost to us is therefore the same whether rooms are booked for the one or two nights. However we have broken this down into various packages which will hopefully suit all the various requirements of District 71 Toastmasters. All events will be by ticket or other recognition system. Nenagh Abbey Court Hotel is a fairly new hotel. It was enlarged last year to 83 bedrooms, and the new Leisure Complex was also recently opened. Further extensive work has been carried out on enlarging car-parking space. By the time of the conference it also envisaged
that 14 holiday homes containing 4 bedrooms (1 double, 2 twin and 1 single) will be completed and available for further accommodation at an economic price (to include breakfast in hotel). Also envisaged is the completion of a 5 or 6 lane bowling alley at rear of hotel which would be available for booking at extra cost to members wishing to avail of it. Another hotel is under construction in Nenagh and it could possibly be open by the time of the conference. There are plenty of Guest Houses in the locality offering Bed and Breakfast facilities. Not mentioned in our bid, is the very special ‘Cantwell Suite’ – an executive suite offering a little more luxury and featuring an exquisite bathroom suite incorporating its own Jacuzzi tub. I am sure that this would be available at an inflated price, if the District Governor wished for anyone to partake of its facilities. I trust that the bid is satisfactory and that we can promote it and put it to the vote at the Council Meeting in Bath. I am sending this by e-mail, but am also including in the post, two copies including hotel brochures.
Yours sincerely,
Nick Theato ATM (B) Conference Bid Director Nenagh Toastmasters Club
