In this edition of On Island Time, I’m thrilled to introduce some outstanding new members of our Divi family. First, please join me in welcoming Byron Bell, our new General Manager at Divi Carina Bay Beach Resort & Casino on the stunning island of St. Croix. Additionally, we have a new Director of Call Center Operations at our corporate office, Christopher Churchwell, who brings fresh leadership and energy to our team. As we enter the fall, many of our 2024 renovations continue to make progress. The largest is at Divi Aruba Phoenix Beach Resort, where several beachfront tower buildings have been completed, and our Phoenix 1 Villa units are scheduled to be completed by November.
At Divi Flamingo Beach Resort & Casino on Bonaire, we finished renovating our pool and garden view rooms and reopened our main dive pier.
At Divi Southwinds Beach Resort in Barbados, we’ve refreshed pureocean Restaurant, adding new tables, chairs, and bar furniture and updating the menu for the coming season. We are also adding new flooring to the two-bedroom penthouse suites and two pickleball courts to our amenities. Please turn to pages 6 and 7 for more details on our resort updates.
Want to learn more about visiting Barbados? Check out our adventure to this exciting island on pages 8 and 9.
Our commitment to improvement doesn’t stop there as we introduce our highly anticipated BarTapas restaurant at Divi Village Golf & Beach Resort in Aruba. Newly opened, BarTapas promises to deliver a unique dining experience, combining innovative Spanish flavors and zest with the relaxed island atmosphere you know and love. BarTapas is located in the Clubhouse next to Windows on Aruba. We’re sure you’ll love Chef Darwin’s newest creations. For more details on BarTapas, be sure to check out page 11.

EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT
Byron Bell - General Manager of Divi Carina Bay Beach Resort & Casino and Oceans at Divi Carina Bay
Please describe your professional background and what drew you to the role.
I started my hospitality management career in St. Thomas at Bolongo Bay Beach Resort after moving to St. Thomas USVI in 2012 to be a zipline guide. I spent the next phase of my career in the adventure park industry in the States and in the Caribbean. I served as the park and operations manager for Rainforest Adventure Sint Maarten, which boasts the steepest zipline in the world. I was then tasked to open The Forge: Lemont Quarries, outside Chicago. The Forge is one of the largest adventure amusement parks in the world. In 2022, I returned to the USVI and Bolongo Bay as the Assistant General Manager. My previous roles have shown me that the all-inclusive format is perfect for taking care of all our guests’ needs while allowing them the flexibility to explore the island. With a freshly renovated property, a wonderful frontline team garnering accolades from guests, and St. Croix’s natural beauty, I’m very excited to take the helm at Divi Carina Bay. With a freshly renovated property, a wonderful frontline team garnering accolades from guests, and St. Croix’s natural beauty, it was the perfect fit and I’m honored to make my home at Carina Bay in “Twin City”.
Why is St. Croix a great vacation location? Have you visited before?
I’ve been fortunate to have visited St. Croix on numerous occasions during the last 12 years, during which I’ve lived off and on in St. Thomas, just 40 miles north. On St. Croix, I’ve always
been welcomed so warmly and treated with such incredible hospitality that I can’t wait to call the island home myself. The island’s pristine beaches, dense jungle rainforest, and deeply rooted culture captivated me from the start. As an avid outdoor enthusiast, I look forward to the hiking, mountain biking, sailing, and surfing that St. Croix offers as well.
What are you most looking forward to with this new role?
As the incoming GM, I’m excited to share my passion for creating authentic Caribbean experiences with our team for our guests. Translating the culture, history, and beauty of St. Croix into an authentic Crucian experience is the top priority. We want our guests to feel at home and treat them as if they are a part of the family. On island I’m looking forward to Festival, Tart Wars (go team guava), and mango melee!
What are your hopes/plans for Divi Carina Bay/ Oceans at Divi Carina Bay?
I hope to create a cohesive experience for our team and, in turn, for our guests. With this team-first approach, we will be able to deliver memorable experiences that will make Divi Carina Bay a prime Caribbean destination. I am also excited that we will be rolling out weddings, events, and group sales, that will allow our team to showcase St. Croix for the celebrations of our guests’ milestones. I am excited to begin welcoming our guests and begin to celebrate with them!
Why are you excited to join Divi Resorts? Divi’s commitment to delivering the highest quality experiences to its guests is renowned throughout the Caribbean. In addition, the company’s commitment to green initiatives is commendable as we navigate the challenges the Caribbean faces as a result of climate change. Finally, Divi celebrates diversity, treats their teams with respect, and embraces inclusion. This is so important as we develop the future leaders of the Virgin Islands hospitality industry.
Will you be making the move to St. Croix with any family?
I will be moving with my partner of 12 years. We have been together since we moved to St. Thomas in 2012, even though at the time we had only been dating for two weeks. She is a video game content creator and is excited to get inspiration in our new home!
EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT
Christopher Churchwell - Director of Call Center Operations
Chris joins Divi from Travel & Leisure, bringing with him extensive experience in club memberships and leadership in overseeing large-scale projects aimed at educating and engaging customers. With a proven track record of operational excellence, we are excited about the fresh perspective and expertise he will bring to our team.
What attracted you to this opportunity, and what excites you most about joining our team?
Joining Divi Resorts is an opportunity to have a more direct impact on the customer experience. Travel & Leisure was a fantastic place to work, but its size sometimes made it hard to implement change quickly. At Divi, I’m excited to influence the entire customer journey and make a noticeable difference in how our guests experience all of the resorts.
How has your experience at Travel & Leisure prepared you for your new role at Divi?
Over my 15 years at Travel & Leisure, I worked in various departments, starting as a Vacation Planning Counselor and Owner Care agent, then moving into Learning and Development, Call Center Operations, and Club Management. I’ve managed call center teams, trained partners, supported resort operations, and worked as a project manager integrating new software systems. This broad experience has given me a deep understanding of the business, uniquely preparing me for my new role.
What do you see as the biggest opportunities and challenges in call center operations, and how do you plan to address them?
Call centers often struggle with high turnover and long hold times, which can hurt customer service. My goal is to make Divi Resorts a top employer in the call center industry by providing excellent training and a positive work environment. This should help reduce turnover and improve service quality.
How do you plan to ensure that our call center consistently delivers outstanding service to our owners and guests?
The key to a successful call center is well-trained agents. I plan to prioritize both onboarding and continuous development, focusing not just on technical skills but also on problem-solving and customer service. Creating a culture of openness and support will also help us continue to consistently deliver great service.
Customer satisfaction is a top priority for us. How do you plan to enhance the owner and guest experience through our call center operations? I want to establish a culture where customer service is the top priority. As the industry shifts
towards self-service and technology, there’s an opportunity to reinvent the phone experience. Our agents won’t just book vacations—they will anticipate guest needs and provide personalized guidance to enhance the overall experience.
What do you enjoy most about working in the travel and leisure industry?
After nearly 30 years in hospitality, I’m still excited about being part of an industry that helps people relax. It’s a privilege to spend my workday thinking about how to create great vacation experiences for people.
What makes the Caribbean a unique market/place to vacation?
The Caribbean represents that classic image of what a vacation should be: tropical climate, whitesand beaches, crystal clear water, frozen cocktails and relaxing resorts. If people close their eyes and think of the perfect vacation, many of them are going to visualize exactly what a Caribbean vacation is.

FEATURED ISLAND: BARBADOS
Lime green and tangerine-colored houses line the rolling green hills of Barbados, and as you coast up and down these windy roads, you’ll see wild sheep, friendly locals waving from their porches, and the blue Caribbean Sea with palm trees swaying along the shores below.
Barbados has those stunning white-sand beaches and crystal-clear waters that you’ll only find in the Caribbean, but this island offers so much more than pretty scenery. Our communications specialist, Jolee Sullivan, fell in love with this island’s charm and its people instantly. She’s here to share why Barbados should absolutely top your list of Caribbean islands to visit.
FANTASTIC FOOD
Tip from a local: “Always get the catch of the day”
If there’s one thing you should do on Barbados, it’s a food tour. You have got to try it all! You’ll sample fresh mango, sour ackee, and tamarind from fruit carts on the colorful streets, the famously mouthwatering deepfried fishcakes, and a whole lot of macaroni pie. A classic Bajan plate consists of rice and black-eyed peas (expertly seasoned), a gooey scoop of macaroni pie, tender and breaded flying fish, and a simple salad. It’s hearty and unbelievably good no matter where you get it - even the fare served on local snorkeling tours is restaurant-worthy!
Our recommendation: Lickrish Food Tours and Dina’s Bar & Cafe
NONSTOP NIGHTLIFE
Tip from a local: “If you do one thing on Barbados, it has to be Oistins”
In fact, nearly everyone we met mentioned Oistins famous Friday night Fish Fry — a street-wide fish fry and block party — as the best thing to experience on Barbados. We also learned that the St. Lawrence Gap is the best place to stay on Barbados to get the full experience. There are lines down the colorfully-lit streets each night filled with tourists from around the world and locals alike who are looking for great rum punch, top-notch dining, and fun live music. From live entertainment to good old fashioned parties, there is nightlife everywhere for everyone on Barbados. Crop Over festival, held during summer, is Barbados’ version of Carnival, and our taxi driver emphasized that “Barbados has the second-best party in the Caribbean,” second only, of course, to Trinidad & Tobago. Don’t miss pureocean Restaurant’s Wednesday night Chill & Grill, complete with drink specials and a breathtaking fire dancer’s performance!
Our recommendation: Harbor Lights Barbados for delicious dinner and a show!
ALL THE NATURE YOU NEED
Quote from a local: “We are outdoor people.”
Our tour guide reminded us that deeply interwoven into Barbados culture is a long history of agricultural work on sugarcane fields, which is still very much a part of Bajan day-to-day life. Driving around this lush island, you’ll see miles of sugarcane fields plus long stretches of pristine beaches.
There’s also a large outdoor Wildlife Reserve where we were quite literally surrounded by monkeys, which is always a fun way to spend a few hours! They barely paid us any mind as they fought over mangos and fed their babies close enough for us to touch. Giant tortoises crawled across our paths and birds of all kinds and colors called to us. Off-land, we were exhilarated to sail with El Tigre Sailing & Snorkeling and snorkeled alongside dozens of friendly sea turtles, stingrays, trumpetfish, and more. You can even venture below-ground to see the famous Harrison’s Cave: an underground preserved cave that our tour guide proclaimed the eighth wonder of the world. Explore this natural wonder featuring fascinating grottos, dripping stalactite formations that look like glistening chandeliers, huge echoing caverns and even underground waterfalls.
Our recommendation: Hunte’s Garden &, Barbados Wildlife Reserve (See most of these sights with Beautiful Barbados Tours)
NATURE!
RICH HISTORY & LOTS OF RUM
Tip from a local: “Pay a visit to the heavenly spirits, and there will always be spirits to drink next door.”
You’ll hear numerous locals make this joke about the fact that next to nearly every church on Barbados (there are more than 300), there will be a rum shop (Bajan for “bar”) a few feet away. Barbados, the birthplace of rum, has a long history with the beloved spirit, dating back to the establishment of the Mt. Gay distillery, said to be the world’s first. Rum punch is served everywhere (our tour guide poured us a homemade glass out of the back of his bus), and you can even do a rum tasting at Harrison’s Cave or the St. Nicholas Abbey, a beautifully preserved 17th-century plantation with an actively-working steam mill, rum tasting room, and restaurant.
Beyond the rum, Barbados is also brimming with rich history and culture. From its colonial past to its role in the transatlantic slave trade, the island’s history comes to life through immersive tours to key sites such as Bridgetown, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and St. John’s Church. Plus, everywhere you’ll go on the island, you’ll find vibrant markets with handmade crafts and clothing made by locals.
Our recommendation: Do a full-day tour with Williams Tours Barbados to see Bridgetown, St. John’s Church, and more and do the St. Nicholas Abbey Rum Tour
OUR NUMBER ONE BIT OF ADVICE FOR BARBADOS is to stay somewhere comfy and near the St. Lawrence gap for optimal beach access and ease to get around to all of these other great sites. An overly-fancy, beachfront location isn’t what you need to splurge on here - you can access the beach easily and you’ll want to save for things to do around the island because there is just SO MUCH to see! Our tour guides were happy to pick us up from and drop us back off at Divi Southwinds Beach Resort. We stayed for a week, and that wasn’t even enough. We cannot wait to go back!
FROM OUR TABLE TO YOURS
Seafood Paella
Divi Little Bay’s Executive Chef, Julio Haynes, is excited to add Paella to the Mix at Oceans dinner specials rotation. Here, he shares his favorite seafood paella recipe. Be sure to stop by Mix on Thursday evenings to try it yourself with a nice glass of sangria!
DIRECTIONS
Snapper:
Season with a pinch of salt and pepper, then pan-fry until fully cooked, ensuring the skin is crispy.
Shrimp:
Saute in a hot, sizzling pan. Lightly season, add finely chopped shallots, and deglaze with white wine.
Blue Shell Mussels & Clams:
Heat olive oil in a pan, then saute the mussels and clams until they fully open. No additional seasoning is needed, as the shellfish provide their own natural flavors.
Paella Rice:
In a large saucepan, combine water, saffron, and chicken stock. Add the rice and bring to a simmer. Keep warm over low heat, cooking slowly until ready. Finally, mix in the green peas along with all the other proteins and garnish with parsley and a lemon wedge.
INGREDIENTS
6pc - 16/20 Shrimp
4 oz - Yellowtail Snapper
1 tbsp - Olive Oil
4 oz - Yellow Onions

INTRODUCING BARTAPAS
Life’s too short for just one plate!
Chef Darwin Torres has done it again! Join us at BarTapas and savor authentic Spanish-style tapas and cocktails while taking in a dazzling Aruban sunset on the top floor of our Clubhouse (opposite Windows on Aruba) at Divi Village Golf & Beach Resort.
“I am thrilled to introduce BarTapas, a new dining experience on Aruba that marries the essence of traditional Spanish tapas with a modern twist.
I’ve combined many happy years of eating and cooking these dishes with my passion for innovative culinary techniques and beautiful plating to create a menu featuring classic Spanish bites with unique new ingredients and textures to keep you excited for the next plate.
Each dish on our menu is a nod to the diverse flavors of Spain, from the vibrant streets of Barcelona to elegant Madrid. Tapas, to me, are more than just food— they’re about sharing good times with friends and family, something I believe in deeply. That’s the spirit we’ve infused into BarTapas.
This restaurant fills me with immense pride, and I am confident that our guests will find BarTapas to be a must-visit destination. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, our restaurant is designed to be a place where people come together to enjoy good food, great company, and the warm, welcoming atmosphere of Aruba, all with a touch of Spain.
I can’t wait to welcome you to BarTapas and share this experience with you!
Warmly,

FEATURED DVC MEMBERS
Linda and
Frank Evans
FRANK AND GIZMO!
We caught up with Linda and Frank Evans this past June during Gizmo’s 30th Birthday party— an event they wouldn’t miss, considering they’ve been visiting Divi Little Bay Beach Resort since 1994, when Gizmo was barely a year old! Their love for this place and their commitment to the Divi Vacation Club are unmatched, as they’ve spent the last 30 years making Divi Resorts their seasonal home(s).
The Evanses bought their first timeshare at Divi Little Bay in 1994. “Every single year, we’ve come back,” Linda shares with a smile. “We haven’t missed a year. Divi is our home away from home.”
What makes the experience truly special for Linda and Frank isn’t just the beautiful views and beaches that help them escape the Pennsylvania cold, but the unparalleled service they receive from Divi. The couple converted to the Divi Vacation Club in 2017, and one of the biggest perks has been the exclusive, personalized service that comes with being President’s Elite members. “There’s a dedicated phone line for us, and no matter who answers, they know us by name,” Linda says. “They check in on us, they remember our plans, and that’s just something you really won’t find anywhere else. That kind of personal care is why we keep coming back.”
The Evanses live busy lives back home, balancing volunteer work, careers, and caring for pets. “It’s hard to go away, so this kind of flexibility is better than having a
separate vacation home,” Linda explains. “With Divi, we get all the benefits of our own vacation spot, but we can enjoy it on our schedule.”
Their time is usually split over three trips, allowing them to enjoy around 8 - 10 weeks in the Caribbean each year. “We spend a few weeks in St. Maarten and a few weeks in Aruba at Divi Dutch Village Beach Resort. The certainty of it all, plus the beautiful locations, just fits what we want from a vacation.” The Divi staff goes above and beyond to make their stays memorable, helping them set up huge dinner parties right on the beach. “We’ve met so many people here over the years, and those dinners are a highlight. Anne-Marie (resort GM) even joins us for a cocktail party now and then!”
The Evanses are not only loyal guests but also Divi’s best ambassadors. They’ve introduced dozens of couples to Divi Little Bay, many of whom have ended up joining the Vacation Club themselves. “It’s easy to bring people here when the product and the people are this good,” Frank says. The camaraderie built over the years at Divi is a highlight for the couple. “A lot of us have grown old together on that beach,” Frank reminisced.
From sunset catamaran sails with AquaMania to relaxing days by the pool, Divi provides everything the Evanses could want in a vacation. “The food at Little Bay has gotten better and better over the years, and we get up to a 30% discount as members, which is fantastic,” Linda adds.
For Linda and Frank, Divi isn’t just a vacation spot; it’s part of their life story. “To say Divi perfectly fits what we want—well, it just does,” Linda concludes. “We’ve created so many memories here, and the level of service makes us feel like we’re part of the Divi family.”

At the start of the school year, Colegio Bon Bini celebrated a special day to warmly welcome its students. The day was even more special thanks to the official inauguration of the school’s fully renovated bathrooms. This project began as an idea in January 2024 and became a reality thanks to the relentless efforts of the Divi Impact Foundation. Working tirelessly, even on weekends, members from Divi Aruba Phoenix, Divi Village Golf and Divi Dutch Village delivered beautifully renovated bathrooms to Colegio Bon Bini, leaving a lasting impact on the school and its community.

BACK TO SCHOOL SUPPORT
On Aruba, the Divi Impact Foundation came together for a memorable back-to-school event! Our employees and their children enjoyed a delightful afternoon with snacks, drinks, and a presentation about our journey and mission. We proudly donated two laptops to FAVI for two bright students, fostering future success. The day’s highlight was hearing from Lluvia Sanchez Muñoz, one of our remarkable scholarship graduates who earned her Master of Education in Spanish and now inspires students as a Spanish teacher at Colegio Arubano. Celebrating education and community, we continue to make a lasting impact together!
Each quarter, Divi Aruba Phoenix hotsts everyone’s favorite event: Bingo for Paws. Guests join together to play bingo and win prizes, while adoptable puppies hang out with them! The event raises money for the Aruba Animal Shelter, promotes adoptions, and makes everyone smile.
