STAYING HEALTHY WHILE ON VACATION PAGE 12-13

FROM THE DESK OF THE PRESIDENT Happy New Year! It’s great to welcome in 2024 and see so many of our loyal owners, members, and guests back for another winter season, enjoying our resorts and basking in the beauty of the Caribbean. We will be busy renovating and updating many of our resorts this year. On Aruba, we’ve already started Divi Aruba Phoenix Beach Resort’s beachfront tower room updates and exterior changes, and we will begin the renovation of Phoenix 1 transformation later this year. This two-year project also includes the opening of a new beachfront food and beverage outlet, the Wave Shack, where guests can enjoy great pizza, paninis, and burgers, and we’ve already introduced a fun bicycle cart called Refreshments On Wheels, which cycles up and down our beachfront offering ice cold drinks and ice cream. Divi Flamingo Beach Resort and Casino on Bonaire has completed the renovation of their oceanfront hotel rooms, which now have a Caribbean chic ambiance and added touches to every room. We’ve also completed the renovation of the studio side pool and deck, adding jacuzzis, a new BBQ, umbrellas, and chairs. The resort recently updated the furniture and lighting at Chibi Chibi Beachfront Bistro, and there’s a fresh new menu along with the interior changes. In addition, pureocean restaurant’s buffet setup has been replaced with new equipment and stations. Divi Dive Bonaire’s main dive pier is being completely rebuilt, and we will be adding a new dive boat and renovating the poolside hotel rooms later this year. Back on Aruba, Divi Village Golf & Beach Resort has completely renovated the interior of Mulligan’s Golf Café, Bar & Restaurant and updated Windows on Aruba with some new furniture. The Links at Divi Aruba added new golf carts and completely updated its driving range. Towards the end of the year, we hope to start work on the renovation of the suites in buildings A & B as part of a three-year upgrade to buildings A-D. Check out the list of some of the renovations we completed in 2023 on pages 4-6.

We know how important focusing on health and wellness is while on vacation. So, to assist guests in keeping to their fitness goals, please check out the “Stay Healthy the Divi Way” article on pages 12 and 13. We are delighted to introduce Divi Little Bay Beach Resorts’ Executive Chef, Julio Haynes, and Divi Dive Bonaire’s Dive Operations Manager, Rick Aguilar, in this edition of our employee spotlight. Please get to know these talented team members on page 7 and flip to pages 14 and 15 in our “Taste of Divi” article to see what’s new at our resort restaurants.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A DIVI GM Our General Managers love getting out and about to greet our owners, members, and guests. Get to know them a little better each week at our fabulous welcome cocktail parties on Aruba, Barbados, Bonaire, St. Croix, and St. Maarten. You’ll have the opportunity to meet our managers and staff while enjoying delicious drinks and snacks. We hope you’ll join us!

Every year, for over 50 years, our Divi Resort teams have been committed to helping and contributing to the needs of our islands. Our Divi Cares program works year-round, volunteering and assisting wherever and whenever we can. In June 2023, we partnered with Gerrit Griffith to help ensure that kids in Aruba get a healthy breakfast to start their day. Thank you to all the owners, members, and guests who participated in this program, helping us raise over $65,000 so far for this worthy cause. You can learn more about this program and other island contributions on pages 17, 18, and 19. We always appreciate your feedback, so please keep those TripAdvisor reviews and social media comments coming. We love to read about your experiences on our islands and find new ways we can improve and enhance your stay. Safe travels,

ST. CROIX

EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT

Divi Carina Bay

INTRODUCING RICK AGUILAR & JULIO HANES On both land and sea, there are some fresh new faces making waves at our resorts. We caught up with Divi Dive Bonaire’s new dive operations manager, Rick Aguilar, and Divi Little Bay Beach Resort’s recently promoted executive chef, Julio Hanes, to hear how they plan to enhance the guest experience in their new roles. DIVE OPERATIONS MANAGER RICK AGUILAR

EXECUTIVE CHEF JULIO HANES

In the heart of the Caribbean, home to crystal-clear waters and vibrant coral reefs, Rick Aguilar is hard at work as the Operations Manager of Divi Dive Bonaire.

Julio Haynes has been an integral part of the resort’s culinary journey since 2015, when he started as a sous chef. As the newly promoted Executive Chef, Julio takes pride in infusing every dish with innovation, stating, “I would definitely describe my cooking style as unique. I always try and put my own twist on every dish I make.”

“I’m looking forward to positioning Divi Dive Bonaire and Divi Flamingo Beach & Casino Resort as the premier choice for group and individual guests’ dive vacations on Bonaire and in the Caribbean,” says Aguilar.

His passion for the underwater world took him to Bonaire, where he has lived for most of his dive career, which spans more than 20 years.

Reopened miniature golf with new greens

“Diving in Bonaire is a class of its own,” he says. “The accessibility and visibility of the water, the healthy reefs, and the abundance of marine life make it a truly unbeatable location for exploring.”

ST. MAARTEN Divi Little Bay

Beyond managing the dive team, Aguilar spearheads efforts to protect the resort’s famed Calabas house reef in collaboration with the Reef Renewal Foundation Bonaire (RRFB), a non-profit dedicated to protecting and restoring Bonaire’s coral reefs. “We’re excited to work in unison with RRFB to continue to grow and improve our unique house reef and our one-of-a-kind dive operation,” Aguilar shares, highlighting the commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship. When it comes to his job, diving is only part of the fun. “My favorite part of my job by far is the people I work with and the guests I have the honor of serving.I love working with such an amazing and well-respected dive team,” Aguilar enthuses.

With over 20 years of professional culinary experience, Chef Haynes has determined that cooking is not just a skill; it’s an art form. He firmly believes that we eat with our eyes first, and then with our mouths. “If a plate is not visually appealing to me, the flavor will really lose its impact,” he remarks. At Divi Little Bay Beach Resort, Julio’s mantra is simple—cooking with love and abundant flavors. “The sky is not the limit for me,” says Chef Haynes. “I have no limit. My goal is to elevate Divi Little Bay’s culinary experience even higher than where it is now.” His ambition is admirable, considering that his dedication to enhancing the resorts’ dining experiences has already helped Divi Little Bay Beach Resort earn the 2023 Noble Beach Prize for “Most Divine Dining.” As we celebrate the culinary artistry of Chef Julio Haynes, it’s clear that his commitment to excellence and passion for unique, flavorful creations will continue to captivate the palates of Divi Little Bay Beach Resort’s guests, promising unforgettable dining experiences on the shores of St. Maarten.

Charles and Sharon Nemser have been visiting Aruba for over 35 years, making Divi Village Golf & Beach Resort their long-time home away from home. We caught up with Mrs. Nemser just as she arrived home from their annual seven-week Thanksgiving trip, and as she unpacked, she told us all about why they’re excited to return yet again. “Aruba to me is heaven on earth. My husband Charlie and I have been coming to Aruba since 1987…every year.” On their very first visit to Aruba, the Nemsers fell so in love with the island that they purchased a timeshare at Divi Village Golf. “66 visits later, we fall in love all over again as we approach the island from the air,” says Mrs. Nemser. “We always have two or three visits booked in advance before we even touch down.” In 2015, they joined the Divi Vacation Club, and now, as President’s Elite Members, they can’t imagine vacationing any other way. “Points just work for us. We now own enough points to come at least three times a year for 20 weeks total.” She highlights the financial benefits of the Vacation Club, noting that it’s easy for her and her husband to upgrade to a 2-bedroom penthouse suite if needed when her family or friends want to vacation with them. “This way, we go when we want, where we want, and our kids do too.” Aside from convenience, the Nemsers also love the close relationship they’ve built with the Divi staff over the years as Vacation Club Members. “It’s nice to be recognized,

to be greeted by name when you walk in. The staff looks out for you and remembers you. I could go on forever. It’s the best way to vacation.” Hailing from Massachusetts, the Nemsers see their annual trips to Aruba as a blissful escape to their tropical home away from home. The consistently dreamy sunset views, fun and relaxing amenities, friendly, familiar resort staff, and memories made each year are what keeps them returning for more. “I think when people ask me what I love most about Aruba, it’s the friends we’ve made and how safe I feel,” Mrs. Nemser says of the notoriously happy island. “The friendships are unique. The friendships are long lasting. We’ve traveled a lot, and there’s no other island in the world where that is gonna happen. Nothing can ever replace the friendliness, kindness, and appreciation we experience each and every visit.” From incredible dining options (“The food just keeps getting better”) to on-site spa treatments and top-tier service all-around, the Nemsers can’t get enough of all Aruba has to offer. “We’ll be back in 63 days, but who’s counting?”

“If you want to enjoy your vacation and you want to vacation when you want, the vacation club is the way to do it. We wouldn’t go any other way.” — Sharon Nemser 9

Birds of a feather flock together at Parotte Ville Bird Park! Stop by this one-of-a-kind attraction to feed and befriend tons of colorful birds. A sanctuary for several species of parrots, this popular spot also features a playground and a small museum full of the owner’s ancient family heirlooms and household items.

Located off the coast of Orient Beach, Pinel and Tintamarre Islands are two spectacular snorkeling sites. There are a few ways to reach Pinel Island, but we recommend renting a kayak from Caribbean Paddling for a leisurely 20-minute paddle to white sand beaches, two lively restaurants and bars and hiking trails. If you’re hungry for seafood, you can even choose your own lobster right from the day’s catches. Plus, keep an eye out for the many iguanas that call this island home. To reach Tintamarre Island, you’ll need to book a guided tour, but it’s worth the trip, as the waters surrounding the area are teeming with sea turtles. For more information, visit www.caribbeanpaddling.com and www.stmaartenactivities.com. TIJON PARFUMERIE

Treat yourself to a world of delightful smells and grab a lab coat and create your own custom perfume or cologne at Tijon Parfumerie, on the French side of the island. Plus, should you run out of your exclusive concoction, Tijon keeps a record of your formula so you can always reorder your perfect scent. For more information, visit www.tijon.com. MAHO BEACH

One of the most photographed spots on the island, this beach sits directly next to the airport, which has one of the world’s shortest runways. At Divi Resorts, we truly pride ourselves on being your healthy escape in the Caribbean, using only the freshest ingredients to create tasty yet wholesome dishes the whole family will love. We recently caught up with Windows on Aruba’s Executive Chef Darwin Torres, to learn more about how he and other Divi Resorts chefs ensure nutritious options are always available.

For his low-carb recipes, Torres swaps out white rice and other empty carbohydrates with whole grains and legumes to keep blood sugar levels stable.

“We are committed to making healthy eating easy for guests at Divi Resorts,” said Torres. “I’ve done a great deal of research on nutritious eating and cooking habits, and with that knowledge, I’ve developed delicious recipes that are actually good for you. The key is to surround yourself with wholesome products that are full of flavor.”

“We think you should leave every meal feeling refreshed, reinvigorated and full of energy,” said Torres. “It’s never too late to fulfill your New Year’s resolution to eat healthier, and we’re here to help satisfy your appetite with tasty island cuisine that packs a healthy punch!”

Torres says using assorted fruits, spices, vinegars, marinades, mustards, herbs, exotic roots, and grains in his recipes helps “kick it up a notch’’ without adding unnecessary calories or fat. Cooking with “good” oils like olive, canola, avocado, and safflower also helps keep his dishes nutritious.

“Changing the way you cook your food also makes a difference,” Torres added. “We roast instead of fry, and grill for flavor using low-fat or no-fat sauces and dressings.” Torres’ healthy selections include his savory Grilled Salmon, exotic Stir-Fry Vegetables, mouthwatering ratatouille-style Vegetable Casserole, and many gluten-free and vegan items, among others.

A DOLLAR A DAY KEEPS CHILD HUNGER AWAY In the heart of the one happy island of Aruba, where sun-kissed beaches meet vibrant communities, a silent struggle persists – hundreds of children go to school hungry every day. In June 2023, Divi Resorts partnered with Divi Aruba Phoenix’s beloved former general manager, Gerrit Griffith, and Ban Uni Man Pa Cria Nos Muchanan to provide local children a nourishing breakfast to keep them focused and full at school.

Your Stay is Your Contribution

Translated from Papiamento, Ban Uni Man Pa Cria Nos Muchanan means “Let’s Join Hands to Feed Our Children.” We believe that no child should have to learn on an empty stomach, and with your support, we are working towards ensuring that every child in Aruba gets a nourishing start to their day. For every day you spend at any of our three Aruba resorts, we add a one-dollar donation to your final bill. This contribution will go directly to Ban Uni Man Pa Cria Nos Muchanan, making a significant impact on the lives of the local children. We are proud to share that between June and December of this year, thanks to the generosity of our owners, members, and guests, we have collected and donated over $65,000 to this important cause. 100% of your donations go directly to this program.
