A MESSAGE FROM THE

WHAT’S UP MANTA RAYS ! Hey guys! I hope you all have been doing phenomenal. I know it isn’t ideal that we’re finishing off our school year from the safety of our homes, but we can get through this! Also, congrats to all those who took their ap exams! And good luck to all those who still have exams (or have make up exams). Exam season is rough (I know it was for me), but I believe that you guys will be able to work hard to succeed! This term may have been off to a rough start (ahem corona), but I am so proud of us as a division. We have achieved so much in this first month, even though the situation was not expected. We had a successful Zoom DCM, several service events from our homes, and even participated ELIMINATE week. WE DID THAT! Thank you guys so much for reading this month’s newsletter, and I hope you enjoy it!

FROM YOUR

Hello Manta Rays!

04

As AP test season draws to a close and summer begins, I hope to see you all participate in more Key Club events! Quarantine might be a small inconvenience, but I know that with your help, we can make the best of it. Over the past month, I hosted my first DCM and had a few service events for you to take part in, but be ready for some new, exciting things that my DLT and I have planned for the upcoming months! Division Pen Pals, some socials, and a bet with the division are on the horizon, so stay tuned! I hope to see you all at the May DCM on the 29th! Be ready for some thrilling announcements (Fund and Spirit Team!) and some great service and fundraising opportunities! Keep gliding Manta Rays! Gliding in Service, Lia Busby

INTRODUCING OUR DIV

Greetings Manta Rays! My name is Sebastian, and I’ll be serving as your division secretary for this term! Throughout the duration of this term, I would like to place emphasis on the acquisition of service hours and the importance of incorporating service events into not only home clubs but to the rest of the division! For those of you who don't know, establishments such as PTP (Pediatric Trauma Program) who strive to eliminate diseases such as MNT (Maternal/Neonatal Tetanus) form the building blocks of the Kiwanis organization; Key Club happens to be a large branch of the Kiwanis family tree organization, echoing their message of servant leadership and community inclusiveness. You, the members, are the ones who can echo that message too. By hosting and creating more community service events, whether it's at the club or division level, not only do you gain service hours towards a good cause, but you help our fellow Kiwanians raise money for PTP and lower the amount of risks and casualties associated with MNT. Essentially, the more service hours our division racks up, the more of a difference we make in the eyes of the Kiwanis organization and this, in the long run, will benefit Division 15 East. Now manta rays, I challenged YOU to get involved in as many Key Club events possible, whether it's DCM’S or community service opportunities, only YOU can make that difference. I understand that COVID-19 has left us at an impasse for amalgamating together for larger service events, but now is the time to think outside of the box and think of service opportunities that members can do at home. The possibilities are endless and I know that as a united front, we can achieve great heights this term and it all stems back to this simplistic concept: ATTAIN AS MANY SERVICE HOURS AS POSSIBLE!

CLUB UPDATES 10

Historian|Eleanor Roosevelt

With the ongoing pandemic, Eleanor Roosevelt Key Club has teamed up with the Eastvale Chinese American Volunteer Association to decorate envelopes. These envelopes will be used to hold face masks and distributed to people in Eastvale who cannot afford or find masks to wear in order to prevent the spread of the virus when going outside. On these envelopes, members had a chance to decorate them with encouraging messages and pictures to lift the receivers spirits up during this difficult time.

On Saturday, April 25, The current officer board and the officer board from last term all got together in a Skype call and held an officer training. The call lasted for over 2 hours and 30 minutes, so each new officer got a chance to learn every detail about their position. During this meeting, we also got the chance to set goals for this term! On April 28, the officers at Centennial High School got together and built bonds by playing fun, competitive games online including skribbl.io and some online card games! One of our officers, Victor Xiao, said "The event was a big success as everyone had a lot of fun. It was a great way to get to know each other better!"

Rachel Chung Historian|Santiago

We held our first DCM with our new LTG. Lia had held a mini Q & A session with Notre Dame! not only were we able to gain service hours, but really express our spirit that’s exceeding through this pandemic. A member who showed up to all the events held so far, Ray Lee, had stated that, “It was exciting to see all my fellow key club members even though we can only see them virtually. Making the appreciation letters, while asking questions about Key Club was a new experience! We weren’t able to do anything like this, so I enjoyed it!”

On Wednesday, April 29, the Let's Get Down to Earth April DCM was held. 17 members of Centennial Key Club attended the DCM! The DCM was hosted on Zoom. Being the first DCM of the term, Lia Busby, the new Lieutenant Governor went over goals for the term and introduced all of the members to the new DLT and Kiwanis. We also made thank you cards for health care workers!
