A MESSAGE FROM THE
HOW’S IT GLIDING MANTAS! Hello friends! How has the start of school been for you? Personally, it’s been kinda difficult for me to get used to online school, but it is what it is. I am excited to start up more Key Club activities during the school year though. I’m hoping that even though everything will be online, we’ll still get the Key Club experience this year. Although I’m sure you all are busy with school and your lives, I still hope to see you guys at Division events! Our division is legitimately doing phenomenal, even despite the ongoing pandemic. We have done multiple successful events, and we are on track to reaching out goals by the end of the term. I know that this situation was not what any of us expected, but we truly did make the most of it. Anyways, thank you for once again reading my newsletter! It really means a lot. I hope you all are staying safe, happy, and healthy! Manta-dieu!

This month, D15E hosted out first ever KeyCon, which was an opportunity for club officers to get trained on how to lead a club successfully even despite the limitations of quarantine. huge shoutout to April, the head spirit coordinator, and the spirit team for putting it all together. And also a big . thank you to fund team and dlt for helping in session 2.
Throughout the two sessions, officers learned about hosting the first club meeting, implementing virtual service projects, setting goals, and paying dues.
We got a decent amount of participants, and I’m hoping that everyone got as much out of KeyCon as I did! As we navigate these uncertain times, it’s really cool to see people doing their most.

ON SERVICE WHAT IS A SERVICE HOUR?
RECAP ON WHAT SOSP IS! Spotlight on Service is a program created by the Service Projects Committee to promote and encourage service initiatives. The monthly guides released will provide tips and ideas on how to complete the initiatives proposed for that month. The program also provides the opportunity for clubs to showcase their service events, at a District level. By participating you could get District recognition!
A service hour is any hour of service performed by an individual Key Club member with the approval of his/ her club’s board of directors. This means that service hours should only be given based on the amount of time spent actively working!
BACKGROUND For the month of August, the focus is Children’s Education. To provide a little background, here’s a Key Club fact. Since 1946, Key Club International has encouraged members to focus “Children: Their Future, Our Focus.” During this month we should try to increase quality education for all children!

Email a local library to see if it’s possible to help them organize books and read to the kids. Challenge clubs or other classes to a penny war! Set up the rules and a possible prize, and just pass out the containers to put the pennies in. Donate the funds to a charity! Help classmates and peers through tutoring them! Ask a teacher or advisor to use their room and advertise the times on social media!
This month on Keepin’ Up with the Manta Rays, we’re introducing...
with the
What was YOUR Key Club moment? My key club moment was when I went to the paint party may dcm in 2019 with my friends. It was so much fun because everyone was so nice and it was nice to socialize with people who weren’t from my school.
How has Key Club impacted you? Key Club has truly impacted me because its given me a way to channel my creativity through graphic design. I always considered myself as creative, but I always had an “ideal aesthetic” that I was never able to truly convey. With Key Club I’m able to display my ads online and really show what i’m passionate about.

CLUB UPDATES
Our President, Hailey Jung, and Executive VP, Annie Jin, suggested the free app Charity Miles as a service event. After seeing that multiple schools have used Charity Miles, our officer board decided that this would be a solid service event we could use as well. The main purpose of the app is to raise money for charity by exercising.
Nathan Nguyen Historian|Centennial
From July 13 – July 31, Centennial hosted a service event called Summer Service Cleaning. Members would gather items including clothes, toys, pot/pans, etc. and put them into a trash bag to make donations to the Salvation Army. Members would receive one hour of community service for every trash bag of items that they donated. Pictures of the donations were sent as proof to the Centennial Key Club email. A total of 24 hours were gained from this service project.
Emilee Gip Historian|Eleanor Roosevelt
Eleanor Roosevelt manta rays helped brighten seniors’ day by creating handmade cards for them which are sent in virtual to limit the spread of the virus. Each card includes a cute doodle and positive message and are sent to seniors in senior homes. Many seniors cannot meet their families and friends due to the pandemic since they are the more vulnerable ones. So these cards bring a smile on their face, and allows them to know that they are loved and cared for and never forgotten.
Rachel Chung Historian|Santiago
Previously, Santiago High School Key Club had established numerous ways our fellow members can participate in racking up those service hours! During this month, we were able to hold nearly 7 different service projects! Most of these were as simple as walking, picking up trash, or even coloring. As the school term approaches, our officers are working hard in promoting more ways to earn service hours!
Nikki Saeng Historian|KIng
King Key Club participated in Color A Smile. This event allowed for members to color a page provided by Color A Smile themselves, www.colorasmile.org, and send it to the organization. This non-profit organization created these pages so that people like our club could color and send out in hopes of making someone smile with these cute drawings. We began this service project in July, and the deadline was July 31. This project can be done at home and shipped out, via mail. Being capable of coloring a cute page and this being put forth for a good cause and making people smile is definitely heart warming. Acknowledgements would go forth to our club president for being the idea to our officer board, and also to all the members that participated in spreading a smile.
FOR CANCER Emilee Gip Historian|Eleanor Roosevelt
On July 18th, many D15E members got to create virtual cranes with Goldstone Kiwins over Zoom. We all got to bond with our sister club by creating the virtual cranes together and playing some rounds of ice breakers. These cranes are created virtually using cranes4cancer.org and we would virtually fold them and put stickers on them and write a positive message for cancer patients and brings them a smile on their face.
