LTG LTG Dear Manta Rays, Welcome back to school! It’s crazy that summer is officially over and school is back in session. While this might be a bummer for some of you guys, keep in mind that this is a perfect time to get back into the service grind! With club meetings starting up again, it will be much easier to get new info about projects and events! At the time of writing this, we are officially almost halfway done with this term! I would like to thank all of you guys for all the hard work you have put in during the past 5 months. Fall Rally is less than TWO MONTHS AWAY (!!) so the best time of the year is coming soon! I’ll see you all at the next event! If you ever any questions, comments, or concerns, please feel free to contact me at any time :)

division news news editor editor division Y’ALL HYPED FOR FALL RALLY? Ayee, it’s Josh, back with the latest edition of YOUR Manta Messenger! We have had a couple region events this summer and into the new school year, and I hope you all made it out! Region events are an AMAZING time to meet key clubbers from across SoCal. Our recent events have allowed me to get to know D15E better, and also students from different divisions! SO, this is the BEST TIME to join key club & get your friends involved! Key club is a social service, so hang out with your fellow mantas while completing service for YOUR community! All my love!

key club club moment moment key My “key club moment” was in my freshman year of highschool. I was very introverted and never really made any friends. But that all changed when I attend my club’s Key-Off, which was a bonding event between my club’s members. We did many fun icebreakers and activities that really made me break out of my shell. This inspired me to be more open, and made me want to create the same kind of experience I had for new and incoming key clubbers. Something I especially love about key club is socializing with other schools and other divisions, which was something that I don’t think I could experience in other clubs. Everyone from all these different places are unique and fun to talk to. There’s never a dull moment when I’m out there at a DCM or Region event socializing with brand new people I never met!

Joined by the rest of the Region 13 Lionfish, our Manta Rays got to work cleaning up Santa Monica Beach. All Key Clubbers were able to secure hard-earned service hours, playing games, meeting new friends, and feeling the Key Club spirit! Lia Busby, the club editor at Santiago recalls her experience at her first Region Beach Clean Up by saying, “Cleaning up Santa Monica Beach was not only an amazing way to spend the last few days of summer with my friends, but it was also a great way to help out the community!”

On August 23, Division 15 East organized an event where Key Clubbers made yarn out of old t-shirts and other items out of plastic bags. This event allowed people to interact with friends and de-stress through crafting at the park. The event also gave back to organizations and raised money for PTP.

Club Rush at John F. Kennedy was a success! We had 68 people sign-up as we advertised with stickers, an informative trifold, free hugs, and even showed off our famous cheers. From left to right we have 4/5 of our officers posing excitedly at the end of the event; secretary Jaelyn Gonzalez, president Joan Santos, editor Mayah Kabbara, and vice president Katrina Licup.

On September 5th, Martin Luther King's Key Club was able to collaborate with another club at Martin Luther King High School, called Pay it Forward, and tutor elementary school students at Woodcrest Elementary. We got to help many students finish their homework assignments as well as helping them organize their work. This was a very fun experience to give back to the community along with racking up service hours!
