A MESSAGE FROM THE

HOW’S IT GLIDING MANTAS? Hi guys! I am back once again with another (hopefully) banging newsletter! I hope you all are living wonderfully and stress-free, cause I know I’m sure not (lol), but I’ll be okay :D. As the year starts to end, many events are coming up, like Halloween, Thanksgiving, college apps (for seniors), and Christmas. It could get pretty hectic, so remember to take some time for yourself and take mental health breaks if you need it! Everything else can wait! Also, even though it’s been almost an entire year, please don’t forget that ms. rona is still around. Stay safe and careful guys! And for Key Club, we have our Harry PotteRTC coming up! I can’t wait to see you guys there ! There’s the membership dues deadline (which is DEC 1ST now for early bird) coming up, so don’t forget about it! Thank you so much for once again reading the Manta Messenger. I am super grateful for you guys <3

This may be an extremely stressful time for many of us, but I just want YOU to know that it will get better! Remember, your mental and physical health come before all else, so please take some time to relax. Even taking a break by walking outside for 5 minutes can boost your mood and productivity. Keep working hard, Manta Rays! All the effort and time you have been putting into Key Club is most definitely paying off!

CLUB UPDATES

ERHS manta rays held their first in person service event of the term on September 5, 2020! We teamed up with Eastvale Kiwanis to hold our monthly street clean up that we used to do pre-quarantine. We cleaned up Scholar way and made Eastvale cleaner. Everyone was wearing masks and gloves to protect themselves and it was successful service event! This was a great way for members to meet out sponsoring Kiwanis and collaborate with them.

Rachel Chung Historian|Eleanor Roosevelt

MEETING

Over this month we were able to successfully recruit members to our club! Our officers took their time to make everything perfect for the first meeting. Santiago officers were worried that not many people would join, but it went better than expected. Through the crisis of COVID, there were still baby manta rays that wanted to join Key Club. Moreover, out first meeting went smoothly consisting of nearly 60 members that joined the meeting!

Michelle Chang Historian|King

Our social for the month of September was the Among Us Social, which was done in collaboration with the Notre Dame and JFK Key Club Discord server, where participants were broken up into groups. We wanted to incite engagement and form a connection among Key Club members from King, Notre Dame, and JFK. This would not have been possible without the efforts of the officers from each school who worked together to plan and execute such a successful social.

Nathan Nguyen Historian|Centennial

On September 21, Centennial hosted the Cards for Kidz service event, ending on October 4. This was a joint service event with Centennial’s Ronald McDonald Charity House club. Our members could participate in this event by creating cards for Loma Linda, a local hospital. For every 5 cards, members gained one service hour. Members sent proof by posting a picture of their cards to the google form or emailing the Centennial Key Club. Members who participated also had to either deliver their cards directly to Loma Linda, or they could drop them off to our president, Sean Nguyen, at Santana Park during one of the two scheduled drop-off times. Centennial gained a total of 47 hours from this service project!

CARDS FOR

Jazmin Mina Historian|Hillcrest

Our club was able to host two general meetings via Zoom; One on Wednesday September 16, and one on Wednesday September 30, as well as two officer meetings with our Faculty Advisor being the Monday before each. Our Service VP, Dharren Agbisit, found six service events for our members to apply to for the month of September. All were promoted on our Instagram, Website, and Meetings.

Lesly Lim Historian|La Sierra

On September 16th, La Sierra’s Key Club will have their first meeting! Your president Giselle Nava, vice president Ben Kang, treasurer Sally Huynh, secretary Michelle Vo, and editor Lesly Lim will outline the aspects of Key Club as well as what to look forward to for the ‘20-’21 year. Mantas, how was the meeting? The board of officers hope you have a better understanding of what Key Club has to offer. To our joining members— during this time of COVID-19’s impacts, the officers hope to bond and guide you through Key Club whether it is via screens or behind masks. We’ll soar with success and meet once again. Welcome to Key Club!

MEET OUR DIVISION

hi manta rays!!

my personal fav dte out there <3

My name is Gracie (or Grace lol) Vu, a senior from Eleanor Roosevelt High School and I’m your Division Tech Editor for this term! I hope all of you guys have been doing well in spite of the pandemic (make sure to wear ur mask D:<). In the light of all of the chaos going on, my goal for this term to make a connection between YOU and our division. I want to achieve this by reposting YOUR posts, reacting to them, and featuring every moment that brings you joy. Creating this connection means the world to me because with this bond we can create more and more memories to later help with member recruitment. With the help of the amazing Division Historians (Chloe Agas and Kaitlyn Park) and Division News Editor (Ying Chou), we are able to publish beautiful pieces for future members to relish on as the legacy of D15E lives on. I strive to try my best to truly show how Division 15 East is even if someone hasn’t experienced it. From the familial bond with our members to our amazing Spirit Weeks, I want to encapsulate what D15E is as a whole. I love D15E and I hope you do too! Don’t forget to follow our Instagram @division15east and check out our website!!

Yours Truly, Gracie Vu

ON SERVICE WHAT IS A SERVICE HOUR? RECAP ON WHAT SOSP IS!

A service hour is any hour of service performed by an individual Key Club member with the approval of his/ her club’s board of directors. This means that service hours should only be given based on the amount of time spent actively working!

Spotlight on Service is a program created by the Service Projects Committee to promote and encourage service initiatives. The monthly guides released will provide tips and ideas on how to complete the initiatives proposed for that month. The program also provides the opportunity for clubs to showcase their service events, at a District level. By participating you could get District recognition!

BACKGROUND

Key Club and UNICEF have partnered together for many causes, helping communities all over the world, such as through Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF. Key Club has been Trick-or-Treating for UNICEF since 1994, raising over $7 million.Since 2011, Key Club’s Trick-or-Treat donations have funded The Eliminate Project, which supports the elimination of maternal and neonatal tetanus globally.
