A MESSAGE FROM THE
HOW’S IT GLIDING MANTAS? Helloo you beautiful people! I hope you guys are still thriving in your lives, as that would not be the case with me. I am currently really feeling the stress for UC apps, which are due so soon, I am very scared. Hopefully those of you that are seniors were smarter than me and have already turned in your UC apps. If so, I am proud of you! If not, we’ll get through this, we got it!! As for Key Club news, you can read the newsletter to find out all about it (lol), but the important bits: the early-bird dues deadline is coming up and there are some very cool events happening soon! As a division, you guys have done so so amazing, even in these circumstances, and I, as well as Lia and the rest of DLT, are super proud. We’ve made such progress toward our term goals and held many successful events! And none of that would have been possible without you guys, the members! Anyways, I hope you all have a phenomenal break, rest up and enjoy time with your family and friends. BUT please do remember to stay safe. As always, thank you so much for once again reading the Manta Messenger. I am super grateful for you guys <3

As the end of November approaches, I know the stress of college applications for seniors and meeting the early-bird deadline for dues is incredibly pressing, but trust me, it will all work out in the end! I know how hard everyone is working during these difficult times, and I am so proud of each and every one of you. In the upcoming month, Division 15 East will be incredibly busy with a variety of service events, fundraisers, AND Candidate Training Conference, so keep on the look out for those announcements. I hope everyone has an amazing and restful Thanksgiving break with their families and please remember to keep abiding by COVID regulations! Stay safe and healthy and I can’t wait to see you all soon!

street cleanup with our
Rachel Chung
On October 3, 2020 ERHS Key Club and Eastvale Kiwanis collaborated for their monthly street clean up. Members and Kiwanis members cleaned up Scholar Way. Masks and gloves were provided and worn by everybody to protect themselves and others. This service event helped members serve their community and keep Eastvale cleaner. There was an amazing turnout and a great way to collaborate with our sponsoring Kiwanis.

October has been a successful month! Santiago Key Club hos managed to establish more service events for our members to earn service hours! Starting with the unicef to math for good and breast cancer awareness service events, we've created more service projects! One more service project we've created is caring for seniors! We've also started a fundraiser and showed participation to key club week! Our club also started collecting membership dues!

From October 1st to October 31st , Centennial Key Club started the Bean Bean Bean service event. Beanbeanbean.com is a website where answering questions about any topic of your choice granted you “beans” a visualizer for money you to be donated to various charities including Red Cross Hurricane Harvey Relief, Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, Feeding America, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and many more. Members of Centennial Key Club had to download a Webtime Tracker Chrome extension that tracked the amount of time that you are active on each website. To turn in their hours, members sent a screenshot of the time that they spent on the website shown on the Webtime Tracker extension and a screenshot of the amount of “beans” that they gained on the website, and sent it to the Centennial Key Club Gmail. Collectively, Centennial members gained a total of 33.5 hours from this event.

To celebrate Halloween with our chapter and promote interclub relations with the Corona Key Club chapter, we hosted a Halloween Social over Google Meets and Discord on October 30th, from 5:00 - 7:00 pm. In an effort to optimize engagement, the officer team planned various activities including a costume contest, escape room, a Guess-the-Item Kahoot challenge, and two rounds of Murder Mystery. The participants were split into groups of four, and each team competed to earn points for every activity. Thankfully, with the help of the officer teams of King and Corona, we were able to successfully have an exciting joint social with both chapters.

We have officially kicked off Key Club at Corona High School! We have held our first meeting and our second is coming up soon. We have also almost finished our first community service activity, color-a-smile and will also be starting our next one soon, which will be the free rice project!

Notre Dame Key Club had a service project throughout the month of October. It was called Math Problems for UNICEF. This service project was a super easy way for students to gain service hours. All they had to do was complete one minute of easy math problems, and they were allowed to do multiple rounds. They could earn up to fifteen hours of service. While doing that, they were donating money (not their own money) to UNICEF to help the children in need of a healthy and safe life.

ON SERVICE WHAT IS A SERVICE HOUR?
RECAP ON WHAT SOSP IS!
A service hour is any hour of service performed by an individual Key Club member with the approval of his/ her club’s board of directors. This means that service hours should only be given based on the amount of time spent actively working!
Spotlight on Service is a program created by the Service Projects Committee to promote and encourage service initiatives. The monthly guides released will provide tips and ideas on how to complete the initiatives proposed for that month. The program also provides the opportunity for clubs to showcase their service events, at a District level. By participating you could get District recognition!
BACKGROUND The Kiwanis Family is made up of K-Kids, Builders Club, Kiwin’s, Kiwinis, Aktion Club, Circle K, and Key Club (what you guys are in!). The other parts of the Kiwanis Family is essentially Key Club for different age groups, with slightly differing goals and tenets.

Host an interclub event with another branch of the Kiwanis Family! Try planning a virtual talent show, or even virtual Olympics. As a service project, plan a Kiwanis Family Craft Day, where members would come together and make crafts (such as no-sew blankets or thoughtful cards) in order to donate! As a fundraiser, host a virtual auction with the help of your members and Kiwanians. They can donate items to auction off, with all the proceeds going towards PTP!
