Hello lovelies!
I hope you all had a wonderful January! I love seeing all of the service you all are doing and I can’t wait to see what other great service projects and fundraisers you have planned for the year! You guys just amaze me with your passion for service and love for others. Keep up the amazing job! Hopefully you already have plans to elect your new board of officers. Remember this needs to be done in February. Once these officers are elected have them shadow your current officers to really see what their position entails. You should also encourage your new officers to attend DCON and Spring Training so they can be fully prepared to take on the great task of being a club officer. A huge thanks to all of you who came out this past Saturday to Ol’ South Pancake House for the DCM and DEC as well as the service proj-

ect! You guys made a huge number of dog toys in such a small amount of time which was amazing! They will be donated to a local shelter soon. Last thing to keep in mind is DCON. If you’ve never been to DCON, this is the year to go! It is going to be an incredible weekend that will leave you with a renewed passion for service and a greater dedication to Key Club. For those of you graduating like me, I encourage you to attend as well and enter contests! So many trophies are given out at DCON and I know many of your clubs will be the recipients of those this year. I’m so proud of the great year of service we’ve had thus far, can’t wait to celebrate at DCON!

1. Save the Trees An acre of trees provides enough oxygen for 18 people! They also help protect land and provide a food source for wildlife 2. Break Out that Cute Tote Bag Americans throw away almost 100 million shopping bags each year! Reuse your bags and you could save 76 lbs of CO2 per year. 3. Brush AND Save Water Turn the water off while brushing your teeth! A faucet running for 5 minutes is equivalent to a 60-watt bulb running for 14 hours! 4. Hit the Road Try walking or biking from place to place. It’s good for both you AND the enviorment! 6
5. Grab a Trash Bag Clean up a Park, beach or playground in your area. You can make a big difference in your community! 6. Reduce the Use Every 3 months, Americans throw away enough aluminum to build more than 5,000 airplanes 7. Make the Change If every home in America switched one regular bulb to a CFL, in one year it would save enough energy to power 3 million homes. 8. Pull the Cord Unplug before you leave a room. Some electronics still use electricity when plugged in, even if they are turned off! 9. Shout it out Tell your friends and classmates about how they can help. Together we can make a difference! This year’s District Project is entitled the Conversation on Conservation which ties in great with our Vision Partner, Nickelodeon’s Get Dirty Earth Day initiative! While Earth Day is still a while away, here are a few ideas to get started planning or to start now! 7
