In addition, November is Prematurity Awareness Month which makes it a great time to raise some money for March of Dimes (one of our preferred charities). November also means it’s time to start planning for December if your club has not already done so. There are often a lot of things in the community that need volunteers around this time. You may also want to consider making cards 4

Steps to Building K-Family Relations 1) Reach out to them - Email, call, visit meetings, etc. 2) Establish consistent communication - weekly email update, monthly visit to their meetings, Whatever it takes to stay in touch 3) Explicitly invite them to your meetings and/or events - While it is generally understood that any member of the K-Family is always welcome at your meetings, it often helps to say “Hey we’d love to see you at one of our meetings, we meet every ... at ... in fact next week we’re having something extra special and we’d love for you to be there” or “Hey we’re having ... service project at ... and we’d like the Kiwanis Club to join us, do you think you all could round up a few members to come out that day?” 5) Remember that if you want them to support you then you must first support them - be available to assist them in any fundraisers and/or service projects and they will likely do the same for you 6

What is Key Leader? Key Leader is designed for today's young leaders. This life-changing event focuses on service leadership as the first, most meaningful leadership-development experience. A Key Leader will learn the most important lesson of leadership—it comes from helping others succeed.

Who can attend Key Leader? Key Leader is designed to open doors to all student leaders and those with leadership potential. The focus is to serve students from 14 to 17 years of age, but especially the Freshman and Sophomore emerging leaders.

Five Keys to Excellence

The Key Leader program is built on five essential principles. These principles reflect our mission to inspire young people to achieve their personal best through service leadership:

Personal Integrity: Doing the right thing Personal Growth: Developing in mind, body, and spirit Respect: Showing consideration for self, others, and property Building Community: Developing relationships to achieve positive goals Pursuit of Excellence: Expecting and achieving the best.

How do you sign up? Go to www.key-leader.org and click on the REGISTER button. Students and adults attending a Key Leader weekend complete a form with basic information.
