2. Lieutenant Governor's Greeting Hi Division 23! I hope everyone is safe and healthy. The school year is coming to a close but service continues throughout the summer. I have a few ideas on some fun things we all can do as a division this summer which of course includes the Division 23 Charity Miles group. I will talk about these ideas during my first divisional on Monday June 21st. I do have a few reminders for you all. The May MRF is due tomorrow June 10th by 11:59 pm and the member representative application form is due by the same time. I am very excited for what is in store for us this summer and I am hoping to make it a great few months of service in person or distanced. Feel free to contact me with any questions by email division23@nydkc.org and or phone (585)284 4020 Yours in Service, Dhaanya Ghanta, Division 23 Lieutenant Governor

5. District Project

Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation joins the effort to fight childhood cancer by funding research, raising awareness, supporting families, and working to find a cure. ALSF has funded more than 1,000 research projects at nearly 150 Institutions in the U.S. and Canada. One program that this charity has is Travel for Care, which offsets travel expenses for families who must travel for their children to receive treatment.

6. District Endorsed Projects KAMP KIWANIS: Kamp Kiwanis is aimed at providing fun, physical exercise and adventure. It strives to afford opportunities to participate in a creative outdoor group experience in a democratic setting and develop characteristics of leadership and fair play. The program at Kamp Kiwanis is designed to mainstream all children, including children with special needs. It is non-competitive with emphasis on group and team building.

District Service Hour Goal & Fundraising Goal

Fundraising Goal: $150,000! Amount Raised so far: $7,800 or 5.3%

Service Hour Goal: 100,000 hours Hours so far: 16,000 hours or 16%

7. International Endorsed Project Children's Miracle Network: Across North America More than 10 million kids enter a children’s hospital each year. To provide the best care for kids, children’s hospitals rely on donations and community support, as Medicaid and insurance programs do not fully cover the cost of care. Since 1983, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals has helped fill those funding gaps by raising more than $7 billion, most of it $1 at a time through Miracle Balloon icon campaigns. Its various fundraising partners and programs support the nonprofit’s mission to save and improve the lives of as many children as possible

June Divisional June Divisional: This will be the very first divisional of this service year. Among other topics, we will be talking about past projects, upcoming projects, ideas, and service in the summer Date: Monday June 21st Time: 7-8 pm Location: Zoom Sign up HERE

8. Service Spotlight During the month of June, the Brighton Key Club organized a rock painting project to spread positive messages around their school’s campus. For two weeks, the students in the club collected rocks around the Rochester area and spent two meetings painting the rocks outside in the school’s Alumni Courtyard. At the end of these two weeks, the students painted about 60 rocks to place around the school! The students were finally able to spread the rocks out all over the school during their lunch period where Brighton High School students can walk around seeing messages like “You Got This!”, “You Rock,” “love yourself,” and “be happy” throughout the school’s campus and later pick them up and put them in a new spot for another person to see. It was satisfying to participate in the process of collecting and painting these rocks and see the final product when you walk outside after a long day at school. 10. Service Spotlight From Outside D23

On May 22, the Potsdam High School Key Club participated in a highway cleanup in conjunction with the Potsdam chapter of Kiwanis. We cleaned up a stretch of State Highway 56, just north of Potsdam. Dressed in high visibility vests and hard hats and equipped with grabbers, we embarked on our morning-long expedition. Along the way we found everything from domestic beer cans to imported beer cans, with a few scraps of metal and paper in between. The find of the day was a handful of foam insulation chunks. It was eye-opening to realize just how much trash people toss out of their cars onto the side of the road. Driving by, you don’t really notice the fast food wrappers and discarded plastic bits. However, once you start looking for things to pick up, it’s impossible not to notice everything else. While picking up every piece of trash on the side of the road can be tedious and timeconsuming, it’s an incredibly important step in cleaning up the community and making a positive impact on the surrounding area.
