hi blue devils! I’m so excited for the June newsletter; I hope you can see all the work that went into this month’s issue. I hope you all survived your AP tests and have put them in the past. With all your free time, you should totally come to our events! Summer is going to be packed with fun region events with hundreds of potential new friends, and you don’t want to miss any of it! Personally, I don’t have many big summer plans, so if any of you want to hang out, please ask! I suggest you write down a few things you want to do this summer, and do your best to do them! Some things I want to do this summer are get my drivers license and go on day trips with friends to aesthetic outdoor scenes Thanks for reading! hey blue devils! I'm Valerie Cheng, your Division News Editor for the '22 - '23 term! I'm a soon to be Junior from Dougherty Valley and am excited to be your monthly news source. I may be new to this whole thing, but I assure you I'm up to the task :D Being both the News Editor as well as Tech Editor will be challenging but fun - so I hope I can bring you the most aesthetic visuals! I’m a passionate foodie who’s always down to eat. Baking and cooking are my go-to hobbies but I also love film/photography. I live for sporadic hangouts and having fun (I'm always ready for anything anytime). I’m super excited to meet everyone this term and if you ever see me, don’t be shy and say hello!

monthly CLUB club MONTHLY Amador valley This month of April, as new club leaders, we've held 3 officer meetings which were very productive in organization and planning. In the first one, we successfully scheduled out and clarified preparations and roles for the 4/15 service project we completed, where we made easter egg cards for a senior center. This was a great experience as our first project, as we contacted the center and their happy response and gratefulness was very much worth the effort. Additionally, as members and officers, we all had a lot of fun completing it. Our second officer meeting was long (about two hours) and most productive of the month; we planned out summer ideas and what the rest of the year was going to look like -- for example, what we were going to do at each meeting (every other week) until the school year ended. We agreed on a bit of fun for the members at our last meeting with a potluck, and decided on another service project for our last meeting of April (4/29) where we set up a clothes drive donation. This received lots of items and for the week prior to the event, we worked on publication of the activity by creating and posting/sharing flyers across the school.

Athenian This month, we held a dinner at the Muslim Community Center for child refugees, which was a fun and eye opening event. We also helped gain donors and volunteers for the Athenian School's Red Cross Blood Drive, which is important due to the blood shortage in California. For next month, we're planning an Interkey with the Dougherty High School Key Club and a drive for mothers and children shelters/help centers.

recaps RECAPS Monte vista This month, our club welcomed in the new term with a fundraiser, two ongoing service events, a board meeting, and a club meeting. At our fundraiser for PTP, we managed to raise $100.32 and members got to enjoy a meal from Chipotle! Our ongoing service projects were Pause For, an app where members get service hours by staying off their phones for a selected amount of time, and Charity Miles, an app that allows members to record their time walking, running, or biking for charity. In all, we had almost 100 hours from these events. Although our members have been less active recently, we still had a few members attend our club meeting and help a brief member training to inform them about the MRP and some of Key Club's preferred charities.

Dougherty valley This month, we hosted our first meeting for the new term and introduced the new officer board. We also had one service projects this month--San Ramon Valley Science Olympiad. This was in collaboration with other student-led clubs and organizations within our school and community (the SRVSO club hosted it, and members from CSF, Interact, etc. also participated). I attended SRVSO, and it was very fun! I signed up for the "Instant Challenge" activity, where I was assigned to set up, oversee, and score competitors as they completed their Instant Challenges. Some other activities were Theory Tests, Can Racer, and Popsicle Stick Bridge. It was a bit hectic at first with so many people there, but in the end it was a great project to take part in. Some of our members and officers also attended this month's DCM.

Amador Valley Amador Valley’s Key Club held a clothes drive at campus on April 29th. We made flyers and talked to teachers to advertise our event. All the clothes could be dropped off at a certain classroom where Key Club officers were waiting. This event turned out to be a great success! We managed to get a lot of donatable clothes and also got to meet many new people who dropped of clothes. We hope to do even more drives in the future for our community!

We held our second meeting of the term on April 15th. During this meeting, our members and officers made easter egg cards which we then donated to a senior center. This event definitely turned out to be a success as many members showed up and got to unleash their creativity! The cards came in many different colors and had many different sayings on them. It was so exciting to see everyone having fun together while also helping our community!

cal high

The most exciting event our members attended in the past few weeks was DCON 2022. Many Cal High officers attended and enjoyed the experience a lot! “It was a good experience for all of us because of the amount of opportunities we were given to learn more about Key Club in general.” remarks our webmaster and division fundraiser coordinator, Chaeie Kim.

Food drives are a classic way to support those less fortunate in the community, and they follow many students growing up. During the final weeks of the school year, Campolindo High School decided to host a food drive to support the Contra Costa & Solano Food Bank. Nina Damiano, who has been a Key Club member since freshman year, describes the food drive as “a fun and easy service activity where our club had the opportunity to use our social media accounts to advertise and get a wide range of donors”. Members mainly used Nextdoor and Patch, since those are the most prominent apps that allow members to reach a lot of people in the community. Graphics were also created to post on the club’s other social media accounts, like Instagram. The club aims to help the community during the last few weeks of the school year, and continue their each next year.
