DEAR DIVISION 3W, One month into summer and we’re getting off to a great start! I’m seriously so hyped for this year and I can’t even begin to explain how much I love this division and how much I love each and every one of your clubs. Your dedication and passion for service makes me the proudest lieutenant governor.

Even though it’s summer, we still need to be sure that we’re performing as service as possible. Now is the time to be organizing and getting a head start on the year. Even though we’re on vacation from school, the Key Club year has only just begun. Use all your resources to see what the district is expecting of your club to accomplish as a chartered Key Club. These resources include me, the DCON contest criteria, the District Staff, and other clubs! It never, ever hurts to be prepared and you’ll be thankful for the preparation once everyone becomes busy with classes and life in general. much

My divisional project is going to include service to the community and to home. So as you’re planning out the year, make sure to look into local organizations to see how’s helping to change the world right there in your community. I’m excited to see all that we’re going to accomplish this year. Love,

Rachel Iselin

You may conduct toy drives and have the items donated to the hospital. Once items are brought to the Hospital, some of our staff and trained volunteers will be able to distribute the items to our patients. Donations may be dropped off at both the Main Campus and the West Campus. All donations should be unwrapped to ensure age and gender appropriateness. Items will be distributed to patients at the campus where they are donated. Advance notice of donations is appreciated.

Arts and Crafts Drive – Help kids find their inner artist by stocking art closets throughout the hospital with fuse beads, paints, paint brushes, drawing pads, glitter, scissors and everything our little artists will need. Clothing Drive – Sometimes a family arrives totally unprepared for a long stay. Social

Work frequently receives requests from the ER for cozy clothes including athletic pants, t-shirts and ‘hoodies’ as well as practical items like socks and underwear. From newborn to Adult XXL, a range of sizes is always needed. Clean out your closet and help out a family in need!

Busy Books for Kids – For a little patient in a waiting room, boredom can set in quickly. Assemble a “Busy Book” to entertain them as they wait. Use ribbon, yarn or staples to secure several coloring pages, mazes and/or word games into a small packet. Don’t forget to include a colorful cover page (perhaps decorated) and 3-4 crayons per packet.

Busy Books for Adults – Parents get bored too! Help them pass the time by providing a few pages of Sudoku, word finds and puzzles stapled in a packet. Don’t forget to attach a pen or pencil!

Recycle your old electronics – Give your old cell phone chargers to Children’s for our

families to use when they have forgotten theirs at home. Also if you have old video

games for current game systems, we can use them in our playrooms.

YOF grants are given only to Key Clubs and/or club members.

The Youth Opportunities Fund (YOF) is an endowed fund for Key Club International held within the Kiwanis International Foundation. This fund uses earned interest to help Key Clubs and Key Club members serve the world by providing grants for service opportunities. The fund also provides academic scholarships for higher education. The Youth Opportunities Fund is established through a portion of your Key Club International dues and through the purchase of G. Harold Martin Fellowships.

Clubs may request funding assistance ranging anywhere from US$100 to US$2,000. The committee typically funds those clubs who are asking for a portion of the total cost of the project, and clubs who are working with other organizations to fund and complete the project. Guidelines for filing the application are also listed in the Key Club Guidebook under Board Policies. Visit keyclub.org for more info!
