e t t l e r - To l e d o ’s X34 provides improved detection sensitivity for error-free product inspection. Food manufacturers will be able to identify very small contaminants in a quicker and more reliable manner with help of a new X-ray system from the product inspection division of Mettler-Toledo. The X34 X-ray inspection system provides detection of metal, glass, high-density plastic, mineral stone and calcified bone fragments across a wide range of packaged foods: eliminating costly product recalls and protecting brand reputations. The system also comes with advanced software that enables automated product set-up, dramatically decreasing the chance of human error and greatly reducing the number of false rejects. This makes for more efficient and profitable operations, while delivering excellent return on investment. “Changing consumer expectations have resulted in an extraordinary choice of food and drink in a variety of cans, jars, bottles, cartons, and plastic containers,” says Mike Pipe, product inspection specialist for Mettler-Toledo. “As food production and packaging methods increase in complexity, the risk of contamination from foreign bodies such as metal and glass has increased. These contamination incidents can lead to expensive product recalls. The X34 provides a combination of technologies which enable producers to detect smaller contaminants reliably at highthroughputs, ensuring product safety and delivering brand protection.” The X34 is a single lane X-ray system designed for the inspection of a wide range of small and medium-sized packaged products. One of its key features is a 100W ‘Optimum Power’ generator, which automatically maximizes detection sensitivity. This is complemented by an advanced 0.4mm detector for the accurate detection of very small contaminants. These technologies ensure that power and contrast levels

This means the X34 does not always have to run at its full 100W output to achieve the best results, delivering power savings to the end user. The X34 comes with MettlerToledo's advanced ContamPlus inspection software which further enhances detection capabilities, helping food manufacturers achieve a zero False Reject Rate (FRR). COCA-COLA IN MANNHEIM: NEW RETURNABLE GLASS LINE

FROM KHS OPTIMIZES HIGHLY COMPLEX SORTING PROCESSES

hen in July 1950 beverage retailer Wilhelm Müller procured the bottling rights for Coca-Cola in Germany, he established the entrepreneurial basis for the production site that can still be found in Mannheim. Initially, lots of tasks such as sorting and quality assurance were performed manually until in 1965 the first fully-automatic setup went into operation; this lifted empty bottles from the beverage crates, placed full ones back into the same and automatically inspected every single container with the help of test equipment. In the 1960s and 1970s Müller held the sales record of all independent Coca-Cola franchisees in Germany 18 years in a row. Following his death at the height of his success in 1971, his wife took over the running of the business. In 1983 she then made the bold decision to build a completely new factory – at the present location in Mannheim-Vogelstang. Very soon after its opening, over 30,000 bottles per hour were being filled on new plant engineering.

Growers in China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, such as Chen Shiquan, have adopted intelligent farming technologies to control activities such as irrigation and fertilisation via mobile phones, according to a Xinhua story.

“The intelligent agricultural system relieves farmers of time-consuming activities, especially in the summer.” “I can conduct most of the agricultural job with just a few taps on my phone,” Chen explained. In Lingshan County, Guangxi, an agricultural demonstration park for digital farming has been constructed in collaboration with China’s e-commerce giant Alibaba. The 1.3ha orchard includes digital technology such as an integrated irrigation and fertilisation system, a pest monitoring system, and a spore collecting device, all of which contribute to the creation of a standardised lychee growing system.

Lin Haiyin, the park’s manager, stated that digital technology has helped to standardise production and increase fruit quality. There were also plans to expand the park’s greenhouse horticulture to allow for yearround lychee production. “Lychee planting in the park now depends on scientific data rather than farmers’ individual experiences,” Lin explained. In addition, the county has built a public packhouse for Lingshan lychee producers. This provides producers with access to cutting-edge sorting, grading, packaging, and cold chain technologies. According to Wu Duoce of Alibaba’s digital agricultural business, the inclusion of a centralised logistics facility and the digitization of the lychee industry’s supply chain has helped producers save costs and boosted the country’s ambitions to access foreign marketsn

WHY “THE VEGANISM” TRENDING GLOBALLY IN FOOD INDUSTRY? Vibha Gaur Flavor & Food Consultant, United Kingdom.

The term “Vegan” is gaining popularity around the planet. It is quite different from vegetarian. UN published a report in 2010, highlighting significance of veganism in time ahead. The word “vegan” was coined in 1944 by Donald Watson. World vegan day is celebrated on 1st November. Its concept was first mentioned by the Greek philosopher and mathematician Pythagoras of Samos around 500 BCE. The existence of veganism in India has been found since the time of Mahavira and Acharya Kundakunda, philosophers from ancient times. The vegan campaign officially launched in India in December 2021. India comes third in the consumption of vegan food after US & UK. There are many startups, introducing vegan foods. Vegan meat startup Shaka Harry’s cofounder Anoop Haridasan says “The vegan consumer in India is miniscule but growing swiftly. Due to high demand of the vegan meat product, his company launched 9 new products and now he is planning some new setups for metropolitan cities.” Macro Springmann, senior research of environmental sustainability claims that the vegan food could be superior than other type of food in terms of nutrition & health. Research suggests that the vegan food has assured health effect as compared to animalbased food product. Some research says that vegan food reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease because it contains the antioxidant, phytonutrients and nitrates while the nonvegetarian food contains pro-inflammatory fats. Based on research, there are blue zone places on earth where people live longer than 100 years. For instance, Loma Linda in US,

Nicoya in Costa Rice, Sardinia in Italy, Ikaria in Greece and Okinawa in Japan. 95 % of food in these places are vegan. Consumption of lentils, cereals, fruits & vegetables are maximum. This may be the reason of their enhanced longevity. Now, according to plant protein sources, 6 % of US consumers are vegan. Based on a survey 2020, there are more than 1,474 vegan restaurants in US while Washington DC having the highest number of vegan restaurants. In 2021, vegan food sales took off 2.5 times faster than what it was during 2018-2020. “Beyond meat” is world’s leading meat substitute producer. In January 2021, approximately 79 million vegans were explored which was around 1 % of the global population. But if this figure remains the same, then in the next 10 years it will increase by 10 times. Similarly, the vegan milk industry is also growing across the world and expects a remarkable growth in future. The global vegan milk industry is worth $ 8 billion in 2016, and likely to reach $ 24 billion by 2024. The US, vegan milk consumption has increased by 61 % in 2017, while the cow’s milk consumption declined by 22 %. The trendy vegan milk is soya milk. Other options could be almond and potato milk. In India, cities like Mumbai, Bangalore, Pune, Hyderabad and Goa, the fully vegan restaurants are increasing and the packed products labeled as vegan are in plenty. The vegan food is very popular among young generation of metropolitan cities. There are various categories for vegan food i.e., dietary, whole food, junk food, raw food & low fat, based on the choices. Millions of people across the world have shifting to vegan food, owing to its health benefits. In steering away from meat, dairy and fish, towards fruits, vegetable, legumes, whole grains, beans, nuts and seeds, a vegan food is naturally rich in nutrients and low harmful constituents like saturated fats.n

UNILEVER USES FLYTREX DRONES TO DELIVER ICE CREAM TO CUSTOMERS

U

nilever’s first digital storefront, The Ice Cream Shop, has teamed with Flytrex, an aerial food and retail delivery firm, to offer ice cream delivery via drone throughout all of Flytrex’s US locations: Holly Springs, Fayetteville and Raeford, North Carolina, and Granbury, Texas. Orders from The Ice Cream Shop will be delivered by air to local homes’ front and backyards in “less three minutes.” Orders are placed using the Flytrex app, which gives clients real-time updates along the delivery path until the box is securely dropped into their yard by wire. The Ice Cream Shop by Unilever is a virtual storefront that sells popular ice cream brands such as Ben & Jerry’s, Breyers, Good Humor, Klondike, Magnum ice cream, Popsicle, and Talenti.

Unilever North American Ice Cream.

Flytrex and The Ice Cream Shop’s collaboration will provide customers with a new option to easily buy from these companies.

“Not only are we offering ice cream aficionados an interesting, creative, and ultra-fast method to enjoy their favourite Unilever ice cream brands, but The Ice Cream Shop and Flytrex have unique ice cream bundles available for purchase.”

“We’re pleased to work up with Flytrex as our first-ever drone delivery partner to elevate The Ice Cream Shop to new heights,” says Russel Lilly, general manager,

“Whether you’re looking for delicacies to sweeten up your backyard BBQ or a cookie crunch, we’re ready to fly directly to your door.”

The collaboration comes at an excellent moment for fans, with summer approaching and the ice cream industry expected to reach $122.1 billion by 2031, according to Allied Analytics. The new service is being offered in collaboration with long-time Flytrex partner Causey Aviation Unmanned under a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) waiver that allows for a delivery radius of one nautical mile, potentially reaching

thousands of prospective residences. All flights are conducted by Flytrex and Causey while adhering to the greatest safety requirements. “Through the new relationship with Unilever’s digital shop, you can scream for ice cream and get it in only minutes,” explains Yariv Bash, CEO and cofounder of Flytrex. “Why settle for a melted pint in an hour when you can have your ice cream via the sky cool and tasty, too?” This collaboration is the latest in a long line of achievements for Flytrex. The superfast drone delivery firm has opened in Granbury, Texas, just north of Dallas-Fort Worth. Flytrex has also been operating in North Carolina from September 2020, first in Fayetteville and eventually moving to Raeford. Flytrex inaugurated its third drone delivery station in the “First in Flight” state at the Holly Springs Towne Center in October 2021. Flytrex has expanded its delivery service to 10,000 households in North Carolina and Texas. The pioneering business has already done thousands of drone deliveries, more than any other company in the United Statesn

KRAFT HEINZ OFFERS A HIGH-QUALITY LINE OF SAUCES AND SPREADS

remium offerings have ballooned in popularity in recent years. When the pandemic started in 2020, specialty ingredients grew in sales as consumers began preparing more meals at home.

Kraft Heinz’s decision to expand its sauces and spreads into the specialty arena makes sense, given its commitment to innovation in recent years. Premium lines have been used by brands as a way to access consumers that are willing to pay more for gourmet

foods and experiment with new flavours. Private-label brands have adopted them in recent years to offer variety to consumers. It’s possible that a recession could prompt consumers to cook even more at home versus spending money at restaurants. This could provide a tailwind to inspire further interest in specialty foods

The sauces and spreads include Infused Honeys in Hot Chili and Black Truffle varieties, as well as Crunch Sauces available in Chili Pepper Crunch, Roasted Garlic Crunch, and Mandarin Orange Miso Crunch. Kraft Heinz said the sweet and savoury sauces were inspired by award-winning chefs Lee Wolen and Joe Frillman. With consumer interest in cooking remaining elevated even as people become more comfortable venturing out, Kraft Heinz and other CPGs are looking to expand their gourmet offerings to give shoppers more choice and convenience.

DOMINO’S INDIA TO TAKE BUSINESS AWAY FROM DELIVERY FIRMS ZOMATO AND SWIGGY

T

he Domino’s Pizza India franchise is planning to take some of its business away from popular food delivery apps, Zomato and SoftBank-backed Swiggy if they further increase their commission. The revelation was made by Jubilant FoodWorks, which runs the Domino’s and Dunkin’ Donuts chains in India, in a confidential filing with the Competition Commission of

India (CCI), which is investigating alleged anti-competitive practises of Zomato and Swiggy. Jubilant is India’s largest food services company, with more than 1,600 branded restaurant outlets, including 1,567 Domino’s and 28 Dunkin’ Donuts outlets. The CCI ordered in April its probe into Zomato and Swiggy after an Indian restaurant group alleged preferential treatment, exorbitant commissions, and other anticompetitive practices. The food delivery apps deny any wrongdoing. After the CCI sought responses from Domino’s India franchise and several other restaurants as part of its investigation, Jubilant told the watchdog this month that 26-27% of its total business in India was generated from online platforms, including its own mobile application and website. In the event of an increase in

commission rates, Jubilant will consider shifting more of its businesses from online restaurant platforms to the in-house ordering system. With the rising use of smartphones and attractive discounts on offer, food delivery platforms have become increasingly popular in India. Jubilant’s warning comes as Zomato and Swiggy face accusations by many restaurants in India that their alleged practices hurt their businessn

CHUPA CHUPS’ NEW LIMITED EDITION ‘COLOUR YOUR TONGUE LOLLIPOPS’

ollipops often take us back to the carefree fun days of our childhood. While we all enjoy having a Lollipop, do we know that there is actually a day to celebrate the Lollipop- the World Lollipop Day? To celebrate this special day, Chupa Chups, the iconic confectionery brand from the house of Perfetti Van Melle, introduced their ‘ColourYourTongue’ campaign. The campaign has been curated for the brand’s young consumer-base to celebrate the Lollipop’s birthday in a novel and quirky way. DECODING THE MYTHS AROUND VEGAN FOOD AND FITNESS

I

ndians are changing their food habits with the world and adopting vegan cuisines as a better option to live a healthy life. It has been seen that people are replacing meat with healthy vegan food as an alternative. Vegan consumption in India is picking up the pace and increasing rapidly day by day as the awareness of a healthy diet reaches the people. The pandemic also helped people to think about the advantages of healthy food and turn towards veganism. Vegan means abstaining from utilising animals or their products as food. Another reason people are switching from animal products to a plant-based diet is that animal-related food habits are causing great harm to our planet. At the same time, eating animal or dairy products also gives rise to a greater possibility of getting diabetes, types of cancer, and cardiovascular diseases. Many studies around the world have also confirmed that meateating leads to a higher death rate and is one of the causes of cancer. The increase in awareness of this information is allowing more people to have a plant-based food diet. Many people who have become vegan recently or those who want to start eating vegan food have, one way or another, some assumptions regarding this new food diet. There are also some myths spread about vegan food. There is a lot of speculation and mythical elements added when it comes to eating vegan. They are mostly related to health and assumptions about whether these types of diets fulfil enough protein intake to become a nutritious meal for a healthy body.

Here are a few myths along with their facts that are present in the food industry today: Myth: Vegan is a high-cost food Fact: When it comes to vegan food, there is a myth that it is a high-end food habit that is only for rich people. A typical vegan diet consists of

in this scenario: if people buy more ready-to-eat or a specific vegan brand of food, then it is likely that they will have to pay more for that food.

Myth: Vegan food does not contain healthy nutrients Fact: People are fixated on getting protein only from animal food products. But they do not have the knowledge that many plant-based ingredients such as broccoli, spinach, lentils, oats, nuts, quinoa, seeds, tofu, and beans have enough protein to sustain a healthy human body. Studies around the world have proven that red meat intake leads to diabetes, colon cancer, heart diseases, and unhealthy overweight condition. The fact about the animal-based protein is that the animals’ intake of plants shows that the protein is in fact gained from the plants.

Myth: Dairy products cannot be replaced with vegan food products Fact: There is a myth that surrounds dairy products and is also encouraged

without earlier planning or cooking. They are exceptionally liked for the convenience they offer. The ready-to-eat food market is divided based on the product type, supply chain, and location. The product type market is sectioned into instant breakfast/ cereals, soups and snacks, prepared dinners, baked food, meat, and other items. The supply chain-based food market is divided into convenience stores, corner shops, online retailers, and other circulation channels. eXtended Transport System increases flexibility in food packaging PIZZA CASE PACKER WITH XTS REPLACES THREE MACHINES AND CONVENTIONAL PRODUCT TRANSPORT TECHNOLOGY Amid rapid change in the food and beverage industries accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic, consumer packaged goods (CPG) manufacturers, contract packagers and their suppliers have to dramatically increase their agility to meet an exponential surge in demand. This prompted U.S. OEM Brenton to equip their side load case packer machine with the XTS. Now, the linear transport system enhances flexibility in product infeed and makes changeovers faster. In addition, the machine offers a significantly reduced footprint after the redesign.

B

renton manufactures integrated end-of-line packaging systems for the food, beverage and pharmaceutical industries, specializing in case packing, cartoning, robotic palletizing and material handling. Today part of the expansive ProMach, Inc., group of brands, the company has been in existence for over 30 years.

Intelligent transport technology handles product variance Brenton eventually decided that these demands necessitated a mechatronic linear transport system for the company’s popular M2000 intermittent motion, side load case packer machine. “This decision led

A major U.S. contract packager enlisted Brenton to take on a challenging case packing application for frozen pizzas. This fast-paced facility required machinery that could handle random timing infeeds as well as 26 different frozen pizza SKUs that were either boxed or simply shrink wrapped in plastic. “This application presented a challenge as we had to eliminate change-out flights for different sized products. Switching from 10-inch to 15-inch pizzas required time-consuming mechanical adjustments,” Mike Grinager, Vice President of Technology for Brenton, explained. “We also had to deliver a high throughput of 15 cases per minute without product damage. This is complicated by the fact that pizzas are stacked as many as 15 high in variable orientations while they speed down the packaging line.”

Brenton to the eXtended Transport System (XTS) from Beckhoff, which we found could adapt to these product changes on the fly,” Grinager said. “Using XTS, we developed a pitchless M2000 machine that expertly handles a completely random infeed

timing of all pizza shapes, orientations and product variants, including display-ready and bulk packaging.” The upgraded M2000 machine now features 5.5 meters of XTS track with 12 movers to control the product infeed. A true mechatronic solution, XTS offers linear motor characteristics combined with constantly cycling movers on a path available in open or closed versions and the most diverse geometries. As one of many remarkable features, the movers are able to create clamping forces in motion: Two synchronized movers working in tandem grip the pizza stacks contained in buckets with a predefined force and stabilize them for fast and secure transport to case packaging steps. “That’s the beauty of this machine – it takes a stack of 15 shrink-wrapped circular pizzas and can quickly adapt to an infeed of pizzas already in square packaging – all with minimal changeover time,” Mike Grinager said. XTS also effortlessly compensates for different infeed timing in the feed because the movers can take up any distance and buffer product in front of the load station to give other production processes extra Continued on page 27

27 the contract packaging company and there are quotes from other customers for additional machines with XTS. In addition to supporting well-established packaging markets for Brenton, XTS is opening up many new project types for the OEM, particularly in pharmaceutical applications where they see even more potential to expand market share. “XTS supports many new machine designs for projects that we might have passed on previously,” Grinager said. “We now have in our reach new concepts that are faster, more flexible and can reduce machine footprint by as much as 50%. Following our initial XTS successes, Brenton is also researching XTS Hygienic for washdown applications in food manufacturing and the XPlanar flying motion system for the most challenging material handling requirements in the industry.”n

time if needed. “XTS greatly reduces jams and downtime as it moves perfectly stacked pizzas into cartons,” Mike Grinager said. “None of this was possible with other systems we evaluated.” Brenton’s first XTS application had to handle a heavy payload for this application type considering the weight of the tall stacks of pizzas. Therefore, Brenton integrated a GFX guidance system from HepcoMotion specially adapted to the XTS, which can accommodate higher payloads. The XTS controller is a Beckhoff C6930 control cabinet Industrial PC. The machine controller connects to a CP2915 15-inch Control Panel display with multi-touch capability. Despite the highly dynamic motion control involved, the XTS only utilizes about 15% of the IPC’s computing power, leaving ample reserves for other automation functionality. Later iterations of the Brenton M2000 also include highspeed EtherCAT I/O systems with a variety of EL series terminals, including 8-channel high-density (HD) variants. “Interoperability between the EtherCAT I/O system from Beckhoff and other fieldbuses is very helpful because it simplifies integration,” Mike Grinager said. “Establishing connectivity with EtherNet/IP devices was also easy for the Brenton Engineering team,” added Patrick Triemert, Application Engineer at Beckhoff USA. “However, with its extremely high-speed and synchronization, EtherCAT is the perfect bus for mechatronic applications like XTS.”

Substantially increased machine throughput Brenton has experienced impressive throughput from the XTS-equipped M2000 machine. The M2000 is now able to carton as many as 41 different SKUs and up to 27 cases per minute, which equals 140 frozen pizzas per minute. The machine can also implement up to 26 different pack patterns, including more complex, display ready and commercial patterns at a throughput of 12.5 cases a minute. “One XTSequipped M2000 machine can actually do the work of three conventional case packing machines,” Mike Grinager said. After eliminating many of the change-out steps, Brenton reduced the typical downtime required for remaining infeed changeovers from around 30 minutes down to just five minutes with XTS. Brenton saved at least 200 hours of engineering time for the infeed section of the M2000 and dramatically reduced complexity by being able to remove about 100 parts from the infeed, such as chains, flights, pushers and rotation mechanisms. Since then, Brenton has already received a third order from

LB BREWERS PARTNERS WITH HALDIRAM’S FOR ITS ICED-TEA: BORÉCHA ICEY

B

everage start-up company, Latambarcem Brewers (LB Brewers), has partnered with Haldiram's to market its icedteas ‘Borécha Icey’ and is aiming a turnover of Rs 20 crore in the current financial year. The Goa-based brand, manufactures craft beer and non-alcoholic functional beverages such as premium iced-teas, kombucha and zero sugar seltzers having annual capacity of 150,000 & 100,000 cases respectively. Commenting on the tie-up with Haldiram’s, one of India’s most popular brand for snacks and sweets, Aditya Ishan Varshnei, cofounder and CEO of Latambarcem Brewers, said, “We are excited to have entered into a marketing tie-up with renowned Haldiram's Group. Under this partnership our premium iced-tea beverage Borécha Icey will be available at 100+

outlets of Haldiram's spread across Delhi-NCR. We appreciate that Haldiram's has decided to promote healthy and functional beverages through its outlets.” The brand is expecting tremendous response to its healthy drinks. The demand for healthy food and beverages has surged during the last two years because of multiple factors including the covid pandemic. Initially, the co-branded Borécha will be available in three different flavours at outlets and depending upon the response and customer feedback, LB Brewers would consider introducing more flavours of Borécha at Haldiram’s. “We are targeting to sell at least 70,000 cases valuing Rs 10 crore during this fiscal and we are anticipating significant jump in both volume and value terms over the next 2-years. In fact, in 2023-

INDIAN MILLENNIALS ARE SPENDING MORE ON HEALTHY FOOD OPTIONS

W

ith Covid-19 affecting lifestyles for over two years now, it follows that health has become a higher priority for many consumers, including millennials. According to new Mintel research, 43% of Indian millennials are spending more on healthy food/snack options. In addition, they are maintaining a high level of spending on activewear and accessories (41%) and in-home gym equipment (36%). Spending increases for older millennials across these two categories. Saptarshi Banerjee, Senior Lifestyle Research Analyst, Mintel Reports India, said: “Millennials today make choices like eating healthy foods or exercising to feel better and reduce stress and anxiety. The emphasis on health is no longer limited to a single objective, implying that looking after both physical and mental health is a multifaceted endeavour. “Given millennials’ interest in holistic health, this creates an opportunity for food and drinks brands to appeal to the newly health-engaged consumers through fortifying products with vitamins

and minerals, considering that only 12% of food and drink and healthcare launches in APAC over the last three years** have functional health claims.” Rising stress levels among millennials call for a focus on mental health The Mintel Trend Slow It All Down has examined how burnout and overwork have impacted consumers due to long hours and pressures at home and work. Furthermore, Mintel Global Consumer research

finds that 41% ?of Indians aged 25-34 find their day-to-day life very stressful compared to just 22% of those aged 18-24. This has increased the demand for products and services catering to mental wellbeing, especially for those early on in their careers. “Workplace stress levels are closely related to age, with older millennials aged 32-40 seeing stress and anxiety as motivators to live a healthy lifestyle. This demographic is naturally concerned about their career success and financial

wellbeing. “Despite the growing issue of stress and burnout, products and services for emotional and mental wellbeing are not widely available to the general public. Brands can promote societal discussions about mental health by developing campaigns or platforms that allow consumers to assess their mental health and can assist consumers by providing opportunities for them to unwind and enjoy some ‘me’ time,” Banerjee said.n

V

adiyalu, Papad, crunchy Sakinalu, Ariselu, Chegodeelu, Annamayya Laddu, Gongura Pachchadi, Murukulu, Atukula Mixture, Chicken Pickle, Palli Podi, Idli Karam Podi, childhood memories such as orange candy and others......and many more. These are our native dishes. We have grown up eating them. But, if you are living out of your motherland for some time, maybe in USA or any other country, you miss them the most. And you crave what you miss the most. Is there a way out? Yes, thanks to the Internet, technology and desi food e-commerce platforms, and aggregators, even if you are away from your home country, you can still enjoy your favourite pickles, sweets, snacks, clothes, toys, handlooms, masalas and spices. There are many Telugus and Indians settled abroad. The NRI Indian and Telugu communities crave homely food, native art and culture. And thanks to these unique business verticals, their cravings are addressed and attended to. And kudos to these innovative business models, even after being so far away, they don’t any longer feel away from the food of their childhood. Nearly three crore NRIs live, almost in all the 210 countries together, except for North Korea, Tuvalu, Pakistan and Kiribati. Every year 25 lakh Indians migrate overseas,

which is the highest annual number of migrants in the world. Indians comprise the world’s largest overseas diaspora. In the US alone, Telugus are estimated to be the third largest immigrant population among Indians. Katherine Hadda, American consulate general in Hyderabad in the year 2017 said, one in every four Indians going to the USA is a Telugu person. So there is a huge demand for desi food. And there is also a huge opportunity. And some players like Desi Authentic were quick to recognise this opportunity and have been addressing the need for the past couple of years. This has also triggered opportunities for many others in the local markets such as 01. Housewife groups who make

pickles, sweets and snacks; 02. Local artists; 03. Weavers, who weave handloom sarees and so on.

toys of 400 years old Nirmal Art are widely popular with NRIs and are in great demand.

Hyderabad-based Desi Authentic is a well-established player in this space catering to well over 38,000 customers. It is an online e-commerce platform. It provides a huge variety of Indian food that includes Cereals, Grains, Millets, Sweets, Namkeen, Pickles, authentic Spices, toys, books, arts, crafts, and handlooms. It also provides childhood memories--as peppermints, and candies that our friends living abroad crave. It went a step further, by providing indoor games like Vamana Guntalu; Nirmal toys, made in Nirmal in Telangana which are considered to be ideal gifts and souvenirs. The

The Indian food comprises Vadiyalu, Papads, Podulu, Cereals, Grains, Pickles, Dehydrated powders and Niloufer biscuits. There has been a demand for dehydrated curry leaf powder which has multiple benefits: helps in weight loss, treats indigestion, relieves morning sickness and nausea in pregnancy, is good for diabetics, good for eyesight is also provided. Many NRIs hold functions such as grihapravesham, sare wedding and anniversaries in the respective countries of their living. But food for their functions is cooked in Hyderabad. Now it is a new trend. Whatever the functions are, NRIs have been outsourcing the desi food for their functions from Desi Authentic from Hyderabad. It has completed three years and wants to share trends in this space, its journey. Desi Authentic is a name to reckon with for authentic Indian food. It has been taking desi food global, satiating the home food cravings of NRI Telugus for the past three years. It offers most missed dishes approximately 150 to Telugu NRIs in about 12 countries such as USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the UAE. It has served over 38,000 NRIs with over 10,000 kg of food items every month for the past three years.n
