Modi-Obama Affair -Divya Sharma

N

o one can ever forget that waking day when Narendra Modi was denied a US visa in 2005 when he was preparing to travel to New York to address Indian Americans at the Madison Square. This absurd decision of the US officials was based on Modi’s failure to stop the deadly riots by Hindus against the minority in 2002. Again, the IndiaUS relationship has gone through a lot of impediment following the diplomatic war between both the countries over an India diplomat’s alleged exploitation of her housekeeper. Nevertheless, all these grave issues did not restrict Narendra Modi from inviting the US president Barack Obama and his wife Michelle Obama for the 66th Republic day. Their visit will certainly be commemorated in the history of India.

February 2015, whole of the Delhi riveted to the television and waiting for the announcements of the Delhi election. And the result that was declared was historic and massive for AAM AADMI PARTY wins the elections with Arvind Kejriwal as the Chief Minister of Delhi. AAP won 67 out of 70 seats and hence, it marks the best ever performance of any political party that the state has witnessed. The epic win of AAP in Delhi indicates the stoic faith of the people of Delhi in Arvind

Here are some of the main events of Barack Obama and Michelle Obama’s visit to India:

odi and Obama reprised the Bonhomie that had marked their interaction four months earlier in Washington DC. Modi advanced the “Chai Pe Charcha” concept on They both sat side by side without officials in the lush green lawns of Hyderabad house, preparing tea for each other. They went for a walk after the lunch and talked for over 10 minutes in a calm atmosphere. The whole panorama was evident of the “bromance” that is budding between them since Modi’s visit to Washington DC. Will this rapport prove beneficial for USIndia relationship ?

o finally comes the day for which Obama was the honourable Chief Guest, the 66th Republic Day. The proud day for Indians was made more glorious by the presence of Obama and it’s unlikely that Obama has experienced such a spectacular panorama in his lifetime. Obama’s presence at the R day is symbolic of Modi;s willingness to put an end to India’s traditional reluctance to get into close alliance with any big power. What made this R day more magnificent was its theme. Women’s power or Nari Shakti was the theme of the 66th R day and for the first time all the women contingents from the three services marched down Rajpath. Did you know, Arvind Kejriwal was not invited for the R day parade?

>The Sri fort Gathering:

O

bama’s last public appearance was marked by his farewell speech at Delhi’s Sri Fort auditorium. He opined that his visit to India will open new chapters for the peaceful and strong relationship between India and US. He enunciated about the most sensitive topics, highlighting on the freedom of religion in the country which has been muddled with strifes between Hindus and the minorities.

The top highlights of Obama’s speech: 1- This is a country where a Dalit can write the Constitution or a tea-seller can become a prime minister. 2- Sometimes I have been discriminated against on the basis of the colour of my skin. 3-The world will be safer, more just place when our two democracies - largest and oldest - stand together. Both our countries have known the anguish of terror and we stand committed to the defence of our people. 4- Senorita, bade bade deshon mein... you know what I mean. Michelle is a better dancer than I am. Sometimes this hurts my feelings. 5- More than a hundred years ago America welcomed a son of India-Swami Vivekananda. Swami Vivekananda helped bring Yoga to our country.

Kejriwal. The man who was considered the “bhagooda”, the man who was considered as a coward for assigning the post of CM earlier, the man who was accused of running away after delivering false promises, proves himself once again by such stunning victory. In past, there have been quite few cases of massive wining of te elections but nothing commensurable to AAP. Delving into the history of India, it has witnessed the 1977 Janta Wave, 1984 Rajiv Gandhi win and then 1989 V.P Singh’s win.

BJP continued its Lok Sabha victory in all the state elections and it seemed that BJP is dauntless. But AAP came out as a game changer. The defeat of BJP is not merely a defeat, it is a humiliation. BJP manages to win just 3 seats. Also, the manifestation of Kiran Bedi as the BJP CM candidate seemed to have unwelcome repercussions. She not only failed as the CM candidate but to add to the failure, she lost from her won election of krishna nagar seat. Utter Defeat! Now, Delhi is all set to witness the changes that Kejriwal has promised. We hope he doesn’t disappoint the people of Delhi and make Delhi corruption free.

TIMELINE OF KEJRIWAL:

2010 - Anna Hazare, Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, Kiran Bedi formed INDIA AGAINST CORRUPTION.

>So what is India gaining from Obama’s visit?

S

o, the three days ended and the Obamas have departed from India. Being a citizen of India, we are left to contemplate on the benefits of Obama’s visit, What is India gaining form his glorified visit? There are three areas in particular that mark the opportunity of a strong relationship of India and US: 1-Combatting climate change: Both if them agreed to work in accord to support India’s energy and climate goals by concentrating on the air quality and also elevating the share of renewables in energy basket. 2-Implementation of the Civil Nuclear agreement: Signed in 2005, The nuclear agreement was stuck in limbo. Obama’s visit is significant for the implementation of this agreement. 3-economics and trade: Obama announced initiatives worth of $4 billions that aim at the augmenting trade and also an increase of job opportunities in India.

O

ne can just not overlook the presence of Michelle Obama for all the three days she was in the capital . Of the many reasons to admire Mrs. Obama, one such is her effortless resistance to jet lag and when it comes to style, she has got to ace the list. The always fashionable lady was wearing a floral dress with a matching coat on her arrival, designed by Indian designer Bibhu Mohapatra. She looked elegant in all the attires she wore. She wore a floral jacket with a skater dress with same floral print. She wore a black straight fit floral dress during the farewell speech of Obama at the Sri Fort Auditorium. She surpasses all the levels of elegance.

VERSACE

Magic of shimmer and sheer

T

he entire collection was a blend of contemporary, classy and wearable fashion. The jumpsuits with crop jackets, sheer gowns with beautiful cut work, hints of asymmetrical patterns, skater dresses with off shoulders and color block cocktail gowns with high side slits were a major attention grabber. It was a rather elegant approach taken by Donatella Versace for this collection, majorly working around sheer, shimmer and intrinsic embroid aeries. Sheer organza dresses embroidered like honeycomb was a perfect display of “sexual healing”. Also, strippaing gowns never looked so sexy! 3D graphic detailed with shimmer embossing, chokars along with toggled belts as accessories and knee high boots created an impactful imprint of Versace on the audiences. There was a clear correlation between sexy Versace world and the world of calmness and reserved fashion.

Dreamy Fantasy

D

esigner duo MARIA GRAZIA CHIUIN and PIERPAOLO PICCIOLI showcased their romantic and poetic haute couture collection in a dreamy and fantasy way. For valentine couple the whole collection was about the “love as the purest form”. Inspiration was taken from the Renaissance Italy, which had handwork embroidery and different textures were even used. There were wiggly rouleaux edgings on the upturned collars and faded red cross-stitching and the heart-shaped patches of suede appliqué on the peasant smocks The couple used velvet as their major fabric and even had embroideries as their main focus. The color of the line were divided into red, beige and black. There were standout pieces which had sheepskin shapes and even had been paired up with a corset and skirts.

N I A I X E R D L O R O AN W M A GL A norexia refers to symptoms of poor eating condition; these can have devastating effects if not curbed at the right time. Fashion world is full of dreams and attaining the perfect figure to be on the top but do you want it at the cost losing the very essence of your own body? Ultra-thin is not ultraglam! Models are now being projected as a fashion illustration, just like a sketch drawn. Anorexic conditions in such situations lead to sculpting out the body.

Such body images are considered negative and this is what leaves an impact on the audience. These unhealthy body types are displayed on the run ways during fashion shows and also various editorials. These models have no curves in their body and their bones are popping

out making them look malnourished. Anorexia is caused by several reasons, namely – anxiety or depression, modeling agencies asking models to lose weight or may be going on a crash diet!, models being exposed to drugs or alcohol and lack of health insurance.

Fashion industry has been circled out negatively because it seems responsible for promoting anorexia and too thin body types. Although there have been various measures taken up by different segments of the fashion industry to control anorexia and its effects but it is very hard to bring a certain variation in people’s mind pertaining to this. Anorexia or call it an eating disorder can turn out to deadly and one may have to lose their life if it is not controlled. Studies show that 68.3% of models suffer from anxiety or depression, 64.1% are forced by the agencies, 76.5% are

exposed to drugs and alcohol and remaining lack health insurance and admit to be suffering from such disorders. The question arises how to stop this deadly disease and also prevent it from being noticed by this large amount of audience who aspire to become models and end up adopting anorexia. Experts say that the treatment for anorexia includes a combination of psychological treatment where they understand what the person has been through and why they sought to adopt such eating disorders. Adding to that there is supervised weight gain process. It is vital to commence this treatment as soon as possible if the person has reached a critical stage and lost immense weight in this duration. Do you still want your body type to be this unhealthy and projected as if you are one malnourished person!? Be aware of the hazards of such unrealistic body images that have been stereotyped.

PORTO The town that gave the country (and port wine) its very name, Porto is Portugal’s second-largest metropolis after Lisbon. Sometimes called Oporto, it’s an age-old city that has one foot firmly in the industrial present. The 14th-century São Francisco church is a main attraction, as are the local port wine cellars, mostly located across the river at Vila Nova de Gaia. Set on the banks of the Douro in the north of the country, Porto’s historic centre has been

Unesco-listed since 1996 and is a picturesque mish-mash of medieval churches, cobbled lanes, pretty squares, steep steps and beautiful buildings tumbling down to the river. The birthplace of port, it’s a must for wine lovers, and recent years have witnessed something of a cultural renaissance with galleries, restaurants and boutiques opening – the city rebranded itself last year to convey its “youthful, cosmopolitan” side.

SALISBURY

BIKE-O-MANIA F

or most of us traveling has always been a curious venture, which not only excites us but also fetches ecstasy with bliss. But there are very few of us who get out of our ease and encounter the adventure. A bike, rare combination with travelling or the apt? Mr. Hamza Raza is a person with taste and passion for life and for him if you travel its on your bike when the air brushes through your hair, when thrill overrides speed, when the journey continues and you go forward for the moment, just that moment. Q1. For those who don’t know you, could you tell us a bit about yourself, your background, education, family and all? HR: We are a family of four and I have a younger brother who is studying in symbiosis, Pune. We belong to a business background. I have done my graduation in International Marketing from Singapore and now I’m training under my dad’s guidance. Q2. Were you always passionate about Bikes? Or was it a gradual interest you developed? HR: To tell you the truth I had never even thought about riding a bike as my parents always worried about the safety thing. But one fine day dad booked a Harley Davidson superlow 883, till that day I did not even no how to ride a bike. He was the one who was always fanatic about bike; even my mum used to ride bikes in her college days for fun, so I guess it was hereditary.

Hamza Raza

Q3. How did Bike riding and traveling come together in your life? If you had to choose one, which one would it be? HR:I used to travel before also but the frequency of traveling has increased by like 10-15 times after I started to ride. After I started to ride I met a few people who shared the same interest as me, so once every month we started to do overnighters at places at least 400 km away from Delhi so that is how riding and traveling met. I don’t think its an apt question for me now because now traveling without my bike is out of the question and even if I have to travel I constantly think what if I had my bike and how fun I would have riding. Q4. Which are you favorite bikes and your destination spot to go to? And Why? HR: I wont complain if anyone was to present me a BMW R1200 GS, RANN OF KUTCH. Riding across a sand desert might not sound amusing to you but if I tell u that you don’t need to press your brake here then I guess you might listen to me. The salt desert of Kutch is a very wide area of land with very little obstructions so you can just test the full power of your machine. But keeping speed aside, the specialty of this place is the beautifully star lit sky. Riding at night here, following the star is just heavenly feeling.

The unassuming city of Salisbury will draw history lovers this year as it takes a central role in celebrations for the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta. There are just four original copies of the cornerstone for English law and first document to champion the rights and freedom of the common people – and the best preserved is in Salisbury Cathedral. Events include a week-long flower festival in September. Lincoln, too,

Q6. In such long journeys how to you keep yourself safe and getting rid of worn-out? HR:Personally I think staying fit wins half the battle as fatigue can take a toll on you physically as well as mentally. Hydration bag pack is a must on long rides as dehydration happens much quicker because of the high wind velocity directly hitting the body and quick stops are advisable as long halts make the body lazy. Chewing gum helps as well while riding. Q7. Expect this India Tour have you also travelled to other places? HR:I have travelled abroad also but not on the bike but I’m planning to do a euro trip on the bike this summer with my final destination being the largest music festival in the world TOMORROW LAND in Berlin.

UTRECHT, NETHERLANDS This ancient and historic city houses many buildings going back to the early Middle Ages. One of the unique features of the city is the wharf system in its inner canals. Before the city was fully canalised, parts of the Rhine River flowed through the city centre. As with many Dutch cities, Utrecht lives in Amsterdam’s shadow. But, having secured this year’s Grand Depart of the Tour de France – in part as an acknowledgement of its cycle-friendly

outlook – the city is preparing for its day in the sun. Its appeal as a weekend break destination seems remarkably undersold. It has a historic, canal-lined centre, reminiscent of Bruges, plenty of modish cafes and restaurants, and an unpretentious urban intellectual vibe, the result of having the largest university in the Netherlands at its heart. To stay, try the Mother Goose Hotel, which opened in July and has stylish rooms from €105.

FAROE ISLANDS A tiny 18-island archipelago roughly halfway between Iceland and Scotland, with nearly twice as many sheep as people, the Faroe Islands have a romantic appeal for travellers looking for a remote, back-to-nature experience. In March, the islands will be one of only two places in the world to see the total solar eclipse (the Norwegian islands of Svalbard being the other). It’s a

Q5. The India tour you took could you tell us something about it? And why you choose to go for it? HR: I took the India tour to explore the part of India of which I was unaware, to understand what am I part of. The reason why I chose to go about it, was because of various reasons – right from proving myself to myself to go in the order to explore myself with my country. Q5. Your tour sure must have been a great experience, Could u tell us where all you stopped, how many people you were. Just a little detail of your experience?

8

HR: We stopped at various places during our transit. Namely – Nagpur, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Goa, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Pushkar and Delhi. The whole group was for about 300-400 bikers all owning the same brand i.e. Harley. If I want to tell you about the experience then all I would say is that we woke you drinking different water, breathing different air, consuming different food and riding on different land, and we slept with everything different of what we woke up to.

will play a key part in the celebrations – the £22m Lincoln Castle Revealed project opens in April, with a new vault to display its own copy of the Magna Carta. great reason to visit the Faroes – a magical world of waterfalls and fjords and huge bird colonies. There’s a vibrant cultural scene, too – festivals and boat races in traditional Faroese boats fill the summer months – but among the most intimate and left-field is Hoyma, a new music festival held each November, which takes place in locals’ sitting rooms.

ICELAND Q8. Do you have any more plans of travelling? HR:I guess we will be heading to a hill station called CHOPTA; it’s a small hardly explored place in UTTRAKHAND. You will not believe what fantastic places our country has to offer, we just need to explore them and I guaranty that you will b able to compare your dream destinations abroad to this and you will not be disappointed.

Is a Nordic island nation between the North Atlantic and the Arctic Ocean. Thundering waterfalls, dramatic lava fields, inviting geothermal pools, abundant marine and birdlife and a vibrant capital city - Iceland’s sheer magnitude of natural wonders and quirky culture can be explored any time of year under the midnight sun or the northern lights. The

country is all set to be one of the most popular for vacation in 2015. Be enthralled by the Northern Lights, hot springs, and Europe’s largest ice tunnel (actually built within an iceberg) – for truly unforgettable moments! Who am I? well don’t bother to know me. I have been called by several names. Some call me harlot, some prostitute, some call me sex worker, but never had anyone asked my

The family of 5, which included my parents and my two sisters, had to survive on the meagre income of my father that he earned with utter hardship. Nevertheless, my eyes never failed to shine. In my grief stricken heart, I had my whole fabricated world, a world full of big dreams waiting for some miraculous power. I waited for one blessed hand that would carry me away to a tranquil world where there was no inkling of “trails and tribulations”. Imbibed deeply in my memory is that one day, the day that changed my life topsyturvy. I was married off to a complete stranger at a very immature age.

I was cajoled to marry that man of double my age, the man who said will fulfil all my dreams. Little did I know that this world is full of masqueraders. My father put me on stake, later did I get to know.
I then became the bread-earner of my husband’s family.

years now and the business has flourished. Things seem to be normal now. My dreams no longer matter to me.
No, I never tried to escape this gruesome world. This world may have caused me immense agony, it may have shredded my heart into pieces but it’s the only source of earning.

From the throes of solitude I rose, again to sink deep into desolation.

My generous and loving husband sold me to different men, strange and beastly men who devoured me completely. The edifice of the lies came crumbling down. “From the throes of solitude I rose, again to sink deep into desolation.” Helpless and vulnerable, I said nothing because your husband is your “God”, this is what we’re taught. The starting of this “business” was tough. Complete alien men touched me on the organs of my body I had no apprehension of. But eventually, I got habitual of everything. It’s been five

Deep inside I was aware of the fact that the father who had put her daughter on stake can never provide for her living. I succumbed to my destiny for rebellion could have landed me in appalling conditions. I never leant how to write, but in my mind I create stories that provide me with solace. Just one thing I desire, someone to make love with me with ethereal affection in his eyes, someone who considers me to be human. I shall contemplate tomorrow sitting at the same place “ after all tomorrow is just another day” and I have to live through it.

Human behaviour flows from three main sources: desire, emotions and knowledge. - Plato

Shy Boy meets Social Butterfly...

I

ntrovert extrovert relationships can be wonderful and satisfying, at the same time they can be like fireworks. But they definitely require communication and compromise. These two strong words are the essence of any relationship. Communication and compromise are just natural, one does not need to make an extra effort for this, it just happens in Love. Most couples find issues like personal space, preferences and priorities arise once they commit. Overcoming such issues is simple though, if he’s a lonesome introvert and you’re a social butterfly… finding a middle ground might be difficult but it’s not absolutely impossible. Where there is love there is a way. Shy boy and miss social butterfly needs to keep some pointers in mind to keep their relationship running smoothly.

Don’t Settle For LESS! Life is too short to actually

The minute you settle for less than you deserve, you get even less than you settled for.

12

settle for less than what we truly want. The only way to improve is to stop settling. We just limit ourselves and do nothing about the situation. We often notice people often settling and compromising for mediocrity at daily basis. We accept jobs that pay us low, we deal with friends who let us down so easily, we compromise with our partner when they cheat on us. It is all in the head, people choose to settle rather than move forward and improve their situations with good opportunities. Life has become a profit-loss balance sheet. Our action depends on comparing the results. People assume that one should not take a particular action because they don’t see fruitful benefit out of it. Now a days there is a thought out evaluation of whatever decision one makes in her life. However, when we care about someone we often value them incorrectly. Sometimes what we think and do for a person does not match up to the reality of that person. It is so easy and predictable to overlook the flaws and imperfection of a person we love. That’s a magic sparkle

of love, that we become less critical. Though, no one is perfect and it is necessary to accept a person as he is in a relationship. You have to be willing to love someone despite their faults. Even you’re full of flaws. The only point here is, if you’re just overlooking the flaws or settling for less than you deserve. People often fail to see what they are missing in order to settle for less. It is okay to ignore little things like your partner being late or not keeping his dishes back in the kitchen. You need to widen your perspective. It is okay to excuse even bigger things. Maybe he has some communication problem that he is working on, appreciate that. Maybe he has a family issue he is working on, understand. It is okay to ignore and avoid certain shortcomings, when you know he loves you with all his heart and treats you with kindness. Everyone wants someone to love and adore them unconditionally. Someone who they be a kid with, a person who wants to smile and laugh with them. Someone who will love them at their worst, who listens to all their complaints, frustrations, desires, who

would laugh at their stupidest jokes. If you are not being treated like you are amazing and worth, then am sorry my dear something’s wrong, because you are beautiful smart and worth of a crazy and amazing companionship. And if you are with someone who doesn’t see this in you, it is time to identify your worth and stop settling for less. People are scared of taking risks, change and unexpected opportunities. These are the main reasons people settle for less. It is not about setting up unrealistic goals and lists. It is about being happy with someone you love .It is about loving and being loved without constantly nagging about their small habits or imperfections. It is always the bigger picture that matters with little feelings that steal one’s heart. Though, it is far easier to settle for less, that too leave our comfort zones. We create endless reasons and false justifications to satisfy our bruised egos when we look back and regret wishing that we had’nt settled less than what we deserved. You need to fight your own inner conscious and other obstacles to reach from where you are to where you want to be..

Both must define their requirements. This means more than just saying “lets go out”. Both of you need to probe more, to know what exactly the other wants to do. Like, “where do you want to go?”

“how do you want it?” “why do you want that?” “do you want to call over friends”?, so when you establish exactly what you want, only then you both could suitably find an activity to do together. Make time a valuable entity; Time is very important for any relationship to grow. But the shy boy and our social butterfly might just have different ideas of spending that quality one-on-one time.

what both of you like doing together so that you could nurture your relationship well. Communication is all what one needs. Develop new friendships together, it is quite possible that our shy boy wouldn’t be comfortable being friends with ten thousand friends that social butterfly has. She has a broad social network of friends and acquaintances, and he has only few very close friends.

Ask your butterfly to calm down her wings once in a while and rest.

It is all about how you feel connected to your partner. Going on a romantic quite dinner? Watching an old classic? Snuggling up reading books? Bike rides? Hours of gyming together? The idea of spending quality time could be endless, but it’s not important that both the individuals have the same idea. The key is-not to assume for the other. Talk about

It’s a good option to form new friendships together, which brings both of them at the same level of interaction, also it will be easier to form such social circle where both of them would feel comfortable-but still both of them should maintain their old friendships. One shouldn’t compromise on that. Make new friendship together at work, book clubs,

gym, neighborhood etc. Sometimes its “ Your Attention” that your partner needs; communications is not only a thing that you do once in a while, it should be on going. It must be your ritual. Make sure your shy boy is heard when he’s quite. Ask your butterfly to calm down her wings once in a while and rest. None of them would say it on your face, sometimes you got to listen it yourself. It is what their heart says, eyes says…you need to give your mind a break and listen from your heart. Attend to them when they least expect you to, and then experience that glow on their face, that would just make you fall in love all over again. Lastly “ Honor each other”; both introvert and extrovert must respect each other decisions, they must honor the values and beliefs both bring to their relationship. It is an equal union of two loved ones, so the effort to make it work should be by both and not only one person’s duty, the relationship is their baby and they have to nurture it together with grace.

Past is a Happy Place!

Let today be the day you learn the grace of letting go,and the power of moving on...

If you ask most people how their school days were, their eyes would light up and soon they would be telling you all their fun tales, first crushes and hilarious incidents with teachers. They wont be telling you about bullying, exam pressure, failures, but then that is the best thing about memories. They don’t let the negative experiences of past come into the happy phase of our memories. When we think back about memories, we think of warm, happy emotions. The reason we tend to remember the happy part of our experience is because our brain blocks out the negative or traumatic incident as a protective shield. All negative feelings experienced goes into our unconscious frame of mind. It is rightly said, the past will always seem tempting because it is easy, but just because it is easy you cannot go back and run away from the future. It’s a Mistake. It must have happened to you

too, a bad hurtful relationship, full of abuse and exploitation where you somehow dumped him and moved on and do not want him back. Now the strange part is sometimes a memory of him will come through somewhere and you’re heart would ache for him, would want him. For example, if you smell the same perfume brand he used, it would flood you with all the warm happy memories with him. Sometimes events from the past have mind of their own. Also, memories keep recirculating when you want them to disappear, it is just weird. One must stop dwelling the past in order to keep today a happy place, we should make peace with our past to keep our present and future a happy place. The reason people find it so hard to be happy is that they always see the past better than it was, the present worse than it is, and the future less resolved than it will be.

The past is not really about the past and memories are not the problem. When you introspect you will realize there is nothing called as past. Everything that happens, happens in the present and memories are the thoughts occurring in the present. Our present moment that we are living now, keeps our past alive within us. Our goal must be to neutralize the event from the past so it loses its power over us. Just “Heal”, healing means letting go so the thoughts and feelings don’t impact you. Dwelling on what happened in the past and being emotionally vulnerable will keep you suffering. Hiding, stuffing-in or keeping your feeling bottled up won’t help either. Instead, bring clarity in your mind. Cultivate your emotions and intelligence in a much positive path. Then see the magic you create!
