Gulf Coast MotorSports Magazine Keep Your Joy You can’t control what people do, what they say, but you can control how you respond. My message is very simple: quit giving away your joy. Quit letting the same people upset you. Quit letting the traffic, delays, the things that don’t work out frustrate you. Life is too short to live frustrated, upset over things that, many times, we have no control over. People have a right to have their opinions, but you have a right to ignore them. People have a right to be rude, but you have a right to stay happy. When you’re comfortable with who you are, you’re not trying to impress people, not trying to be something that you’re not; then your uniqueness will come out. You’ll be more creative; you’ll see new doors open. The right people will show up, talent will come out in greater ways. You’ll step into the anointing on your life. Be you. You’re powerful when you’re you. Here’s the key, nobody can beat you at being you. Quit beating yourself up over the past. The enemy is called the accuser. He’d love for you to live in regrets, down on yourself, not enjoying the grace of God because you’re so focused on what you did wrong, the mistakes you’ve made, trying to hide the scars. Those scars weren’t meant to be hidden. You have nothing to be ashamed of. You are forgiven; you are redeemed. The scar is a testimony of the mercy of God. “God will not allow things to happen that won’t somehow move you to your destiny.” … Joel Osteen

Cruizin’ in the passin’ lane By: Jimbo “Things can change in an instant”; how many time have we heard that phrase! Most of the time it pertains to a disaster affecting an individual or a town or maybe a country, but here we are with a our World wide event. Everyone is caught up in the affects of this pandemic. No need for me to express my opinion about the epidemic the News is covering that 24 hours a day. If there is any silver lining to this effort to keep us all home and away from each other, it is getting that “Honey-do list” done. Almost all the events have been postponed and some just canceled out for the year. I keep www.gulfcoastmotorsports.com website up to date so you might want to check it out before you head off to a cruise-in or car show. The car on the cover of this months magazine belongs to “Hot Rod Walt” Richards of the Psycho-Devilles fame. I’ve ask Walt to make the trip from Atlanta to play at the Atomic Blast April 25th and as of today (3/19) the show is still on. Cabin fever or “Ratrod Fever” will be full blown by the middle of April and most of us will be ready to Party.. Can’t think of a better way to do it then havin’ a Blast with a real “Hot Rod” band the Psycho-Devilles https://psychodevilles.com/ check them out and
make plans to join us at the Atomic Blast April 24 & 25 Gulfport Dragway. Jimbo, There is nothing the NSRA would rather be doing than be out on the road with our members showing their cars. However, the wellbeing of our members, staff and the many people working in the venues is always our top priority.

Out of caution and due to increasing health concerns we are postponing the Southeast Street Rod Nationals in Tampa, Florida, Western Street Rod Nationals in Bakersfield, California and the Street Rod Nationals-South in Knoxville, Tennessee. Our Event Directors are working with the various venues to reschedule these events and the new dates will be announced as they are finalized. The NSRA wants to thank you for your patience during this time. All pre-registered participants will receive a letter from NSRA that will outline the process of participating in these rescheduled events. When we have updated information on any of our events, NSRA will post that information here on our our Facebook page and also on the NSRA website www.nsra-usa.com. Jimbo, I thought this might help out some of your military readers…. My son is a Marine stationed over seas and he recently received a "Dear John" letter from his girlfriend back home. It read as follows: Dear Ricky, I can no longer continue our relationship. The distance between us is just too great. I must admit that I have cheated on you twice since you've been gone, and it's not fair to either of us. I'm sorry. Please return the picture of me that I sent to you. Love, Becky With hurt feelings, he asked his fellow Marines for any snapshots they could spare of their girlfriends, sisters, ex-girlfriends, aunts, cousins etc. In addition to the picture of Becky, Ricky included all the other pictures of the pretty gals he had collected from his buddies. There were 57 photos in that envelope along with this note: Dear Becky, I'm so sorry, but I can't quite remember who the h*** you are. Please take your picture from the pile, and send the rest back to me. Take Care, Ricky Jimbo, You Know with all the crazy stuff going on in the world and most it based around religion, I’m reminded of this story. Once there was a little old lady who lived next to me and she was very spiritual. She would step out on her porch every day, raise her arms to heaven and yell, "Praise the Lord." One day, an atheist bought the house next door to her, and he became very irritated with the spiritual lady. So after a month or so of her yelling, "Praise the Lord" from her porch, he went outside on his porch and yelled back, "There is no Lord." Yet, the little old lady continued and one cold, wintry day, when the little old lady couldn't get to the store, she went out on her porch, raised her hands up to heaven and said, "Help me Lord, I have no more money, it's cold, and I have no more food." The next morning, she went outside, and there were three bags of food on the porch, enough to last her a week. "Praise the Lord," she yelled. The Atheist stepped out from the bushes and said, "There is no Lord! Ha ha ha, I bought those groceries!" The little old lady raised her arms to heaven and said, "Praise the Lord! You sent me groceries and You made the devil pay for them." "Life is not always the way it's supposed to be - it's the way it is... The way you cope with it is what makes the difference.” fter his plane was hit and he was forced to eject, a Marine Corps fighter pilot finally regained consciousness. He was in a hospital, in a lot of pain. He was in the ICU with tubes/IV drips in both arms, a breathing mask, wires monitoring every function, and a nurse hovering over him looking worried. It was obvious he was in a life-

threatening situation. The nurse gave him a serious look, straight into his eyes. Knowing he was not only a fighter pilot, but a Marine, she spoke to him softly and slowly, enunciating each word: "You may not feel anything from the waist down." Somehow he managed to mumble in reply, "Can I feel your boobs, then?" And that, my friends, is a real positive attitude. Till Next Month Jimbo
Stubborn Water Heaters by Sean Dietrich I am sitting in a church pew. This chapel is empty. It's lunchtime, and I'm supposed to be meeting an old friend here since I am passing through town for a book tour. Gene is the father of a guy I grew up with, and he has always been good to me. The church secretary told me to wait in the sanctuary. The lights are off. Sunlight comes through the stained glass windows. The whole world has shut down because of the coronavirus. Schools are closed. Restaurants have closed. Major League Baseball is cancelled. This morning, I saw a mile-long line of people outside a Birmingham grocery store. I don't know what they were buying, but they looked afraid. Gene works at this tiny church. He is the maintenance man here. It's a part-time gig since he is almost seventy-eight. This church gets smaller every year. Some of the younger parishioners are trying to grow the congregation by promoting the church. But the elderly folks in the congregation aren't interested in this. “I'm not running ads,” the elderly preacher said at a recent meeting. “You don't have to advertise a fire.” I hear the door open. Gene's sleeves are rolled up, he has dirt smudges on his forehead. He's holding a wrench. His white hair is a mess. “Sorry,” he says. “I gotta cancel lunch, we're fixing the water heater.” I follow him to the back room where three old men are crammed against a water heater. These are deacons. They are ticked off and fussing: “Hold the flashlight steady! I'm blind over here!” “I'm trying, but your feet keep getting in the way.” “GIMME THE WRENCH!” There is a special way old men gripe when they're fixing things and becoming frustrated. It's pure wrath. It spews out of them like poison. It happens to us all. You can take a soft spoken man who walks on water; who never cheats on his income taxes; who calls his mama four times per week; who always puts the toilet seat down; give him a clogged garbage disposal and this man will turn into Beelzebub. I am standing at a distance, watching them work. There is an art to watching other men do fix-it jobs. If you are a man, you don't watch, but you oversee. Guys would never, for instance, merely watch another guy tune his carburetor. We would stand EXTREMELY close to him, sometimes leaning into his engine for moral support. We would offer helpful tips as though we minored in nuclear physics. “Hey Frank, have you tried twisting the defraculation nodule with the precipitator cuff valve?” When we run out of things to say, we spit, or offer to get in there and help. But we are lying when we offer to help. We DO NOT want to help. Because this would mean that other men would then be giving us a steady stream of helpful advice, and then we might have to strangle them with a tape measure. The water heater closet is flooded with an inch of water. The men are sloshing around, soaked to the bone, and filthy. And I am glad that I have something to think about today that isn't related to the coronavirus because it feels like the world has been flipped upside down. I'm getting a lot of email from worried people. I got an email from a nineteen-year-old girl who is having panic attacks. And one from a single mother whose full-time job has been cancelled. But all is well inside this little church. The old men are really going

to town on this heater. These are Baptist men who grumble in the sort of way that only Baptists know how. They talk themselves right up to the edge of cussing, but never do. “Dang this no good sunuva…” It's beautiful. If you were raised Southern Baptist like me, you live for this kind of thing. An old man named Rick has taken to beating the water heater with a hammer and speaking with lots of near-cuss -words. This is a direct quote: “This no good piece… All I wanna do is… Line up the danged threads and kiss my… You piece of doo doo!” By now, a Presbyterian would have said an actual bad word. An Episcopalian would have already left the church and bought a twelve-pack. But not this elderly Baptist. He actually said, “doo doo.” This is the greatest day of my life. By now our feet are splashing in a little river. Even the church secretary is watching. She is trying to make helpful suggestions but the old men aren't listening to her because what would she know? “Hey,” she says, “shouldn't you turn off the electricity with all this standing water around?” Women. Finally, after an hour of struggling, it is finished. The water heater is fixed and it is a great day to be alive. Old men are shaking hands, slapping shoulders, high-fiving. The secretary has gotten togo sandwiches. The old men are all in the empty sanctuary, sitting on clean towels, eating. One old man says grace. Men bow their heads. Nobody says a word for a solid minute. Everyone is quiet. We are all thinking about the same thing. We're thinking that in a few moments we will finish our sandwiches, leave this warm building, and rejoin an upsidedown and panicked world. “Lord,” says an old man. “Even if all hell breaks loose, help us not to be afraid.” Hear, hear. …….. A man and his dog were walking along a road. The man was enjoying the scenery, when it suddenly occurred to him that he was dead. He remembered dying, and that the dog walking beside him had been dead for years. He wondered where the road was leading them.. After a while, they came to a high, white stone wall along one side of the road. It looked like fine marble. At the top of a long hill, it was broken by a tall arch that glowed in the sunlight. When he was standing before it he saw a magnificent gate in the arch that looked like mother-of-pearl, and the street that led to the gate looked like pure gold. He and the dog walked toward the gate, and as he got closer, he saw a man at a desk to one side. When he was close enough, he called out, 'Excuse me, where are we?' 'This is Heaven, sir,' the man answered. Would you happen to have some water?' the man asked. Of course, sir. Come right in, and I'll have some ice water brought right up'. The man gestured, and the gate began to open. 'Can my friend,' gesturing toward his dog, 'come in, too?' the traveler asked. 'I'm sorry, sir, but we don't accept pets.' The man thought a moment and then turned back toward the road and continued the way he had been going with his dog. After another long walk, and at the top of another long hill, he came to a dirt road leading through a farm gate that looked as if it had never been closed. There was no fence. As he approached the gate, he saw a man inside, leaning against a tree and reading a book. 'Excuse me!' he called to the man. 'Do you have any water?' 'Yeah, sure, there's a pump over there, come on in..' 'How about my friend here?' the traveler gestured to the dog. There should be a bowl by the pump.' They went through the gate, and sure enough, there was an oldfashioned hand pump with a bowl beside it. The traveler filled the water bowl and took a long drink himself, then he gave some to the dog.

When they were full, he and the dog walked back toward the man who was standing by the tree. 'What do you call this place?' the traveler asked. This is Heaven,' he answered. 'Well, that's confusing,' the traveler said. 'The man down the road said that was Heaven, too.' 'Oh, you mean the place with the gold street and pearly gates? Nope. That's hell.' 'Doesn't it make you mad for them to use your name like that?' 'No, we're just happy that they screen out the folks who would leave their best friends behind.'
Just for a moment let this view remind us all what we hold dear to our hearts. Being a Christian is believing in the message of forgiveness and willingness to honor he who has risen. Our life as we know it may just be the school of our future... some will pass, some will fail. We all start out with the teachings of our village in hopes of entering his kingdom.

By: Joyce Lachaussee With all that is going on in our nation with the Corona Virus, we hope this finds you and your family well and pray for continued health for everyone. We pray this situation will quickly pass and soon be just an unpleasant memory. I hope this article will bring a smile to your face and remember better times are ahead. We had a great turn out at the Hardee's Breakfast Cruise. There were over 40 cars/trucks that made the cruise. Thankfully the weather cooperated. We had 50's music and lots of camaraderie.
It was refreshing to see Judson Godfrey show up with his 1972 C10.had it 3 years and he and his dad did all the mechanical work. They had it painted by Boone's Body Shop. He would like to add to make his collection larger. He may already be a victim of the disease all car aficionados have - you can never have enough! His friend, Kase Allgood, came with him and said he doesn't have an old truck but sure wants one. Both young men are Seniors in High School. It's good to see young people interested in this hobby. We hope to see you both again soon. Evis Cochran from Semmes brought this 1957 Chevy. He has had it 1-1/2 years and did all the mechanical work. It's a 6 cylinder - “3 on a tree. He is new to this hobby. He said he just recently got interested in collecting and restoration work. I should warn him that he too may catch the costly car disease. Thanks to everyone for coming to the cruise in. It's an enjoyable time for all of us. Unfortunately, the current situation throughout our country with the Corona Virus dictates we all take extraordinary steps to protect ourselves and others. With that said, the Hardee's Breakfast Cruise In is CANCELLED for next month. Notice and info will be made on FACEBOOK when the Cruise will begin again. STAY SAFE! May the Lord bless and keep each of you in this difficult time.

We were the only family with children in the restaurant. I sat Erik in a high chair and noticed everyone was quietly sitting and talking. Suddenly, Erik squealed with glee and said, 'Hi.' He pounded his fat baby hands on the high chair tray. His eyes were crinkled in laughter and his mouth was bared in a toothless grin, as he wriggled and giggled with merriment. I looked around and saw the source of his merriment. It was a man whose pants were baggy with a zipper at half-mast and his toes poked out of would-be shoes. His shirt was dirty and his hair was uncombed and unwashed. His whiskers were too short to be called a beard and his nose was so varicose it looked like a road map. We were too far from him to smell, but I was sure he smelled.. His hands waved and flapped on loose wrists.. 'Hi there, baby; hi there, big boy. I see ya, buster,' the man said to Erik. My husband and I exchanged looks, 'What do we do?' Erik continued to laugh and answer, 'Hi.' Everyone in the restaurant noticed and looked at us and then at the man. The old geezer was creating a nuisance with my beautiful baby. Our meal came and the man began shouting from across the room, 'Do ya patty cake? Do you know peek-a-boo? Hey, look, he knows peek- a-boo.' Nobody thought the old man was cute. He was obviously drunk. My husband and I were embarrassed. We ate in silence; all except for Erik, who was running through his repertoire for the admiring skid-row bum, who in turn, reciprocated with his cute comments. We finally got through the meal and headed for the door. My husband went to pay the check and told me to meet him in the parking lot. The old man sat poised between me and the door. 'Lord, just let me out of here before he speaks to me or Erik,' I prayed. As I drew closer to the man, I turned my back trying to sidestep him and avoid any air he might be breathing. As I did, Erik leaned over my arm, reaching with both arms in a baby's 'pick-meup' position. Before I could stop him, Erik had propelled himself from my arms to the man. Suddenly a very old smelly man and a very young baby consummated their love and kinship. Erik in an act of total trust, love, and submission laid his tiny head upon the man's ragged shoulder. The man's eyes closed, and I saw tears hover beneath his lashes. His aged hands full of grime, pain, and hard labor, cradled my baby's bottom and stroked his back. No two beings have ever loved so deeply for so short a time. I stood awestruck. The old man rocked and cradled Erik in his arms and his eyes opened and set squarely on mine. He said in a firm commanding voice, 'You take care of this baby.' Somehow I managed, 'I will,' from a throat that contained a stone. He pried Erik from his chest, lovingly and longingly, as though he were in pain. I received my baby, and the man said, 'God bless you, ma'am, you've given me my Christmas gift.' I said nothing more than a muttered thanks. With Erik in my arms, I ran for the car. My husband was wondering why I was crying and holding Erik so tightly, and why I was saying, 'My God, my God, forgive me.' I had just witnessed Christ's love shown through the innocence of a tiny child who saw no sin, who made no judgment; a child who saw a soul, and a mother who saw a suit of clothes. I was a Christian who was blind, holding a child who was not.. I felt it was God asking, 'Are you willing to share your son for a moment?' when He shared His for all eternity. How did God feel when he put his baby in our arms 2000 years ago. The ragged old man, unwittingly, had reminded me, 'To enter the Kingdom of God, we must become as little children.'
I have had a tough few weeks with my recent plans. I had hoped to spend Mardi Gras day at the Gulfport Dragway, due to some rainy conditions the night before the races were cancelled. I had been looking forward to once again helping and participating with the Misfits at the annual Gnat Nationals in good old Bay St. Louis. However, again that plan and hope was dashed when I developed a stomach bug the weekend before, which held me hostage for almost 2 weeks. I had also had plans to get some paint on the doors of the big truck project during the few days of great dry weather we had, and the stomach bug took that out too. Oh well the best laid plans sometimes go south. I do however see warmer weather and I expect to be on track and on the road going to cruise nights and shows real soon. I do enjoy supporting the various causes all of these fun with cars events help. I also see the future of the Big Truck project getting further along, and making some positive steps in rolling under its own power. All of this so-called free time has given me the opportunity to remember some of the people that had a great influence on my life in this hobby. And I am sure many of you have similar folks in your lives. I had a recent discussion with a dear friend regarding the early days of racing. He fondly remembered and related some old tales concerning his racing past. The one thing I took from this was, in the early days of drag racing it was not about cubic dollars and how much one could spend on go fast parts. It was about creativity and backyard engineering, and good old-fashioned trial and error. There were no speed shops in the early days in drag racing. There were machinists yes, and there were good mechanics too. But there were also young folks that were figuring out how to go fast with what little they had access to. Then it seems they all met up and lo and behold machinists and mechanics and these crazy hot rod kids started combining ideas, and going faster started to be a big thing. Machine shops had new clients; mechanics as well started fixing things the youngsters couldn't. So, it was a win win win situation. The early hot rodders soon started learning from the machinists and the mechanics as well and became better at finding solutions to their need for speed. Thus, the racing industry's early pioneers were born. One could surmise this process took place in most all populated urban areas, and even in the farmlands. But again, I reiterate the early days of racing were not so much about what one could spend, but just the pure enjoyment of getting to the finish before the other guy. Sure, all of the knowledge gained and shared led to bigger and better ideas. But the guys and gals in early racing enjoyed doing this with what they had at their disposal and little to no funding. Many worked weekly jobs and played and spent most of what they made on food and scrap parts to go to the tracks (if they could find one) and raced on the weekends. I've got a whole lot more to go on this subject so stay tuned and I will attempt to wrap this up next month. Thanks much old friend for the inspiration. Later from the Queens Castle‌‌‌. Gizmo

After some cold/damp winter events the weekends are starting to get warm, sunny and busy again with events happening everywhere. All you gotta do is get out and Just Cruise. We made some winter cruise ins and a few of them were a little slow but not everyone rides fulltime. But a few of the regular shows have started kicking off. They'll all start getting nice with better weather. We started this month at the Long Beach Harbor, I'm not gonna say it was cold I'll say more like freezing hahaha.. The next stop for us was the VFW Show in Bay Saint Louis for the Veterans. One of the shows we never miss. Great weather around 70 cars/trucks showed up to support the Veterans program. Also a few pictures of keeping the kids (Raylen in model “A, Breckin "working" on project truck) involved in the cars and events. Remember to watch for our friends out riding their bikes. Allen
Our next big show was also in Bay Saint Louis for the Misfits Street Krewzers 22nd. annual Gnat Nationals show benefiting CASA of Hancock county, Hancock senior citizens and Kings kitchen. They had some great food along with music, games, awards, action and coloring contest for the kids. They also had great weather and excellent support with 165 plus cars/trucks come out to support them.

Passin’ The Tools Every month I scratch my head as my brain tries to come up with something clever to communicate to you. “Trunk Tales by Cubby” has been in print for 10 years now and during that period I have scratched my head until I have areas that are balding. This month as I was pondering what might entertain you, and thoughts about having my “Imaginary protégé, Daniel Still” write the article crossed my mind, but I felt you might conclude that was too odd. I had an idea that came from a recent survey I took along the interstate. You might be amused, I thought, by an accounting of the empty beverage cans discarded on the roadway and a competitive count of “Coors Light” cans vs “Budweiser” and “Coca-Cola” cans vs “Pepsi-Cola” cans. This too appeared to be a senseless topic. It occurred to me I could write about “Goodyear’s” claims that a single wheel-spinning standing start can eliminate as much as 1000 miles of useful tread life from a tire. (This would plausibly explain why they only drag race for a quarter mile.) That idea would have made for a short article. I decided to go to the garage and work on something, hoping some great idea would confront me, and it did. While in the garage, a search for a tool I had misplaced, and now needed, ensued. Because it could not be located, this aggravating situation became inspiration for this article. I hope you can relate to the frustration caused by misplacing this tool and not being able to readily locate it. Most of us fella’s do a fair amount of wrenching either for work or a hobby or both. I have been advised that one can tell a lot about a guy by the type of tools he has, their brands, their condition, and if their toolbox is tidy or untidy. I tested this theory on myself and my toolbox. The one I am referring to is my stand-up toolbox in the garage, not the ones I carry in each of my three vehicles. I will concede that they are a mess. Turns out that my main toolbox in the garage is a mess, too, and to illustrate that, here is a photo taken before I wrote this article and before I began a total alteration. You will notice a before and after photo. Now I have to get the entire garage reorganized!
To look at the box’s total disarray suggests an untidy mind, to which I plead guilty. I am a writer, which means my only real obligations are to spell properly, maintain good sentence structure, and die when I am supposed to. If you expect tidiness, you should look toward a valet! However, to some people I suspect such disorganization suggests the tool box owner is not terribly bright. Not guilty! Do we define an intellectual as a person that outlines his tools on a pegboard? To tell you some of the things I found under the top lid, which contained such an abundance of items that the lid would not close, would be embarrassing. I will share some of the discomforting items,

such as the paint stirrer attachment that belongs with my drill, the tool I fabricated to suck the lint out of the dryer vent, and the knife sharpener I have been searching for the last 7 months. Why would I have put them there? They have their own home. No better time to put items in a logical arrangement in the tool box than now, it appears. Flat blade screwdrivers were already in the drawer where they belong. Phillips screwdrivers were in the Phillips screwdriver drawer, along with an ice pick! (Why was an ice pick in the Phillips screwdriver drawer?) Open-end wrenches were in the proper drawer, but not properly placed by descending size in their racks, along with Allen wrenches which belong in that drawer, closed-end wrenches were properly stored, and the sockets were on their organizers and in their own drawer, with metric and SAE separated. Then I started looking more closely at the items in the drawers. I discovered the screwdriver that my grandfather Hole made and passed down to me, along with a ballpein hammer he made. My grandfather Hole was a tool and die maker for Delco-Remy when he was alive. These were items I had not thought about or used for a long time. I proudly display the vise and anvil he made and gave me when I was 16 atop the steel workbench that my father made in high school shop class. These are the focal point of my workshop. I had a flashback memory of my grandfather Brown working at his workbench inside the well-house in his back yard. My memories flew to the old wooden chest that he kept his tools in, which is now in my garage. I opened it up and peered inside. There were his tools, along with old measuring sticks and
old measuring tapes, and gauges. He had a fixation for exact measurements as did all of the relatives that lived before me. I sat back and thought about the Chocolate Labrador, Chocky. This was the dog my grandfather had on the farm the entire time I was growing up. That dog was old, but was always by my side when I visited. He was a great friend to me from the time I was a little tyke, until the time I left home. I loved that old dog, and I loved my grandparents and all the good times with them. Seeing these tools took me back to that time. The fact that I am messy and frequently misplace my tools developed into a positive thing this time. Reliving wonderful memories from long ago is essential for good mental health. The next time you are in your garage or storage building staring at your tools scattered around, think about people of your past that passed them down to you, used them alongside you, or that you just came into contact with because you were using these tools. They may be dirty and greasy but they may help you relive pleasurable memories of times past. “When you put down the good things you ought to have done, and leave out the bad ones you did do—well, that’s Memoirs.” Will Rogers (1879-1935).

It's Sunday night, I just got in from surf fishing for Pompano, Red Fish at Pensacola Beach and the world is going crazy with the Corona Virus. We got the Panama City Beach car show in, but lost the New Roads show to the Governor's cancelation of the show Friday afternoon, after I had already checked in to the hotel in New Roads. Before I get started, I want to thank William Smith Paint and Body Shop in Gulfport, MS for sponsoring this column for over 8 years. I used to work with just about all the body shops in South MS. William Smith is the one that I trust to do all my paint and body work. William is talented, puts out great work, but the most important thing is he is honest. I have watched how he treats his customers and how he is a man of his word. I'm old school and I like that, I like William. There would not be a 17 FOREVER column without William Smith. Thank you brother! If you need work done, call William, he will work you in… For Emerald Coast Cruizin…I drove from Pensacola, FL to Gulfport, MS Tuesday night and slept in my shop to knock twohours of drive time of my trip on Wednesday. I took off about 7am, after a good breakfast, to Panama City Beach. It rained on me from Pensacola to Panama City Beach. Got there after lunch and got the trailer set up. My hotel for this trip was The Palmetto on the beach, our room was on the 6th floor, what a view and great sound of the waves crashing. My assistant Carol came in Wednesday night, we used to date as teenagers. Thursday morning we finished the setup and got cranking with the Hot Rod Show to drizzling rain all day.
Friday was great, partly sunny. We got the Mega 50/50 going and I played the Hot Rod Show until 1 pm. Todd Allen Herendeen took the stage with his tributes to Elvis, Roy Orbison and Johnny Cash. Todd is a great entertainer; he also has a local dinner theater in Panama City Beach called the Todd Allen Herendeen Theater and does quite well with it. Dennis Gage was there with My Classic Car, his interview I did was really good, got to turn the tables on him and interview him instead of Dennis interviewing someone. Dennis is coming back to Emerald Coast Cruizin in November to actually film My Classic Car. If you come to Emerald Coast Cruizin you have an opportunity for Dennis to notice your car and possibility get it on his show.

Stacey David with Gearz TV Show was also there, what a neat guy. Both Dennis and Stacey David signed autographs, took photos with the fans and kissed babies. Saturday was beautiful weather wise, I did the interview with Stacey David and it was very interesting. I also learned Stacey can sing, plus he has a band and he is bringing them to the November Emerald Coast Cruizin show. They are real good. Both Dennis and Stacey were big hits with the cruisers. Tommy Townsend performed Saturday at the show, The Hot Rod Show played before and after, Tommy is the former lead singer for the Waylon Jennings Band. We also had the first classic car “how to” teacher that I ever saw on TV, Sam Memmolo with us at the show. Shadetree Mechanic, Two Guys Garage, Motorhead Garage just some of the TV shows with Sam. Also his radio show Sam's Garage. Sam taught a Tech Seminar at Emerald Coast Cruizin, free for cruisers, Voltmeter 101 “Dynamic Voltage Drop Diagnosis” Friday and Saturday. Sam will be teaching these how to seminars at each upcoming Emerald Coast Cruizin Car Event, they are very popular, be sure and sign up early at each show.

Our Mega 50/50 was over $6,000. I stayed an extra day and just unwound. Emerald Coast Cruizin is such an awesome show I enjoy doing twice a year.
The very next weekend it was The New Roads Street Festival Car Show in New Roads, LA a little old town down on the False River. This was my 5th year to do this show. I made it to town, got checked into the hotel before the Governor's proclaimed that all events involving 250 or more people were immediately canceled. It would have been a great show, the weather was awesome! It will be rescheduled for a future date. Update of my appearance on Iron Resurrection TV Show on Motortrend Network, according to Amanda “Mandi” Martin, it will be episode 10, the season finale. Don't know how much time I'll get, I guess that is left to the editing. I believe between 5 and 30 seconds, but that is only a guess. Iron Resurr ec tion Wednesday nights at 8 pm CST. Joe and Amanda Martin are also thinking about doing a car show at their shop in Johnson City, outside Austin, TX. Mandi asked for a quote for me to come do their show. I gave her one, but travel expense is high for that trip, so far away. We are also still talking with the promoter in the Caribbean about doing those three car shows but we are running out of time for this season and the Corona Virus opens a new can of worms on getting it done. My next car show is Burning Up The Beaches Thursday April 30, Friday May 1 and Saturday May 2 at Destin Commons Shopping Center in Destin, FL. This show is presented by The Arc of the Emerald Coast and it's all for charity. Love doing this show. Enjoy the photos from Emerald Coast Cruizin, the fall show dates are November 11-14. Credit Rob Cole, Larry Crain and yours truly with some of these photos from the car show. Work wise I've been working from home for a week now and expect to be doing it for a while due to COVID-19. Wash your hands, don't touch your face and use hand sanitizer, otherwise all we can do is to put it into God's hands, in Jesus name. I wish you and your family safety from this pandemic and I hope we can all get through this and put it behind us. 17 FOREVER, you either live there or you don't…if you read the column you are on your way… and we'll see you down the road. til next month…

The Unexpected Stranger by Sean Dietrich It's late. She's driving. She's on her way home. There's something in the road. She hits it. She swerves. She loses control of the car. A loud crash. A bounce. She's going downhill. She's rolling. Her car is really rolling. She screams. And in this moment, she's thinking, “I wish I could tell my children I love them.” Funny. In critical moments, nobody says to themselves: “I wish I had better retirement options.” She's tumbling down an embankment toward the icy water below, thinking simple things. Like the day she slid a ring onto her husband's finger and promised to love him until death. She thinks about holding her newborn daughter. The same daughter who was born with an extra digit on her left hand. A “supernumerary finger” doctors called it. She thinks about how she nicknamed her daughter “Six.” And how the name stuck, even after surgeons removed the appendage. She remembers her son. And Little League games. And the day after school, when he told her that he'd found hair in his armpits. One second. That's all it takes. One second to relive her entire life. How strange. Only a few minutes ago, her life felt permanent. And now, it's too short. Her car hits water. She is upside down, dangling. Blood in her eyes. She is too beat-up to even cry. She is falling in and out of sleep. The water is above her head. Then it's touching her hair. Then her forehead. Then her eyebrows. Her nose. In her stupor she manages to say one word before she's submerged. A threeletter name which, despite what many claim, has nothing to do with politics, wars, or religion. She swallows a lot of water. The world goes black. Then. Sharp sickness in her gut. It is overwhelming. A burning in her lungs. A headache which feels like she's had an argument with a hammer. “I'm alive,” she's thinking. Her eyes open. She coughs up foultasting river water. She sees him. He is big. Black. Broad shoulders, thick hands. He is using his palms to press on her sternum. “Stay with me,” he's shouting. She trusts him. There is something about his face. She wants to fall asleep, but he won't let her. “Stay with me!” he says. The next thing she knows, she's over his shoulder. She can see his feet. He isn't wearing any shoes-she remembers this. Barefoot. He carries her uphill. She catches a glimpse of her crumbled vehicle, sinking into the river. She can hardly believe it. He places her on the pavement, leans her against a guardrail. “Don't close your eyes,” he says. “Stay with me.” She sees blue lights, flashing. He tells her it's going to be okay. He touches her face. She remembers a lot from that night. She remembers the EMTs. She remembers a bumpy ambulance ride. She even remembers the anesthesia before surgery. She remembers asking emergency workers about the man who saved her. “Man?” one deputy answered. “It was MY patrol car that found you, ma'am. We found you all alone.” “No,” she insisted. “There was a man who… Who saved me.” The deputies only looked at each other. “No ma'am,” they said. “We didn't see any cars around that area but yours.” I know sometimes you think you're alone in this world. You're not. Sent in by giff1500@

Brief Cord History By: Andy Switzer In November of 1935 the New York Auto Show was being held. The local newspaper headline was “Crowds Stood on Oldsmobiles to Get a Glimpse of the New Cord.” The car was named after the President of Auburn Car Company, Errett L Cord. The Cord was nicknamed “The Baby Duesenberg” mainly because it was manufactured in the Duesenberg factory in Connersville, Indiana with hopes that it would boost the struggling Duesenberg line. The car also got nicknamed the Coffin Nose due to its long coffin looking hood. The 1936 Cord was a car of many first. One of the first cars with front wheel drive, unitized body, and no running boards. The car sat lower to the ground than most other cars, giving it a look different to what people were familiar with. Hide away headlights, hidden radio antenna, horn ring on the steering wheel, and most unusual, the pre-selector semiautomatic transmission was all new to the automobile industry. The price of the low end 1935 Cord started at $1995.00 and up to $3595.00 for a supercharged phaeton. Orders quickly outpaced the factory's capabilities and bronze Cord models were given to waiting customers to help calm the anxiety. Cord came with a 288.6 cubic inch Lycoming V-8, which was mounted in the car backwards due to the front wheel drive. The standard engine was rated at 125hp and the supercharged option at 170hp. Approximately 2320 cars were manufactured between 1936 and 1937. Five body styles were available which were a 5 passenger Westchester Sedan, 2 passenger convertible coupe, 5 passenger Convertible Phaeton Coupe, Coupe, and a 4 passenger Beverly Sedan. The Cord was designed by Gordon Buehrig. He worked with the Packard Motor Company and General Motors before going to The Duesenberg Company. The influence of the aviation industry is present in the fender pontoons as well as the instrument panel. The most unique feature of the Cord was the semi-automatic transmission which also added to its demise. The transmissions were problematic from day one. The operator could pre-select a gear while driving and the transmission would shift when the clutch was depressed. The shifting was done mechanically using vacuum cylinders. After closing of the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Company, the left-over transmissions were sold to the Tucker Company and used in the Tucker automobile. Cord's body molds were sold to Hupmobile to produce the Skylark and Graham Hollywood. 1936 Model 810 Westchester I purchased this car from my father-in-law around 30 years ago. He had bought a Cord in 1937 because at the time, my future mother-in-law refused to go on a date with him because of the car he was driving. My father-in-law was driving 1931 Bantam Delivery Sedan which was used by K&B drugstore for deliveries. Remember those days when stuff was delivered. It was that ugly K&B purple with black spray paint over the logo. Even back in the 1930s we bought cars to impress the opposite sex. When I started the restoration of this car 30 years ago just about
everything on the car was frozen. It had sat in a museum for over 25 years. Everything on the car needed rebuilding. The big challenge was to adhere to originality. Many trips to other Cord owners and the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum to gather information was made. Even damage done during Hurricane Katrina caused a partial repaint. In March of 2018 at an Antique Automobile Club of America car show in Mobile, AL, our Cord took a Senior First Place. In November of 2019 our Cord was nominated for an AACA National Award. We were notified in January that we had won the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Award. Award presentation was held during the National AACA Convention in Philadelphia, PA in February. My wife Deanne and I felt extremely honored to receive this award.

CLOSE CALLS By: John Poore We'll call these events “close calls” as they surely seem to be that! But most likely they are evidence of God's having His way and bringing about His plan in His own good time. He has a purpose for each of us and He is in control. The first “close call” was during the summer of 1958. A friend and I picked up a couple of girls and headed out to Bogue Homa Lake. It was on a Saturday afternoon and we figured we would see someone there whom we would know who would have a boat and take us for a ride. On the way there we realized that we had forgotten to take a camera so we went back to one of the girl's house to get hers. We were in my buddy's dad's 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 with a 312 cu and the power of 245 horses. That was a lot of horse power in those days and his girlfriend persuaded my friend to let her drive. Have I mentioned that she was 15 or 16 years old and had no license? We were going about 50 mph when she hit the passing gear and lost control of the car. We left the road, hit a culvert and flipped 5 or 6 times, landing upside down. The man in whose yard we landed saw the whole thing and told us we had flipped that many times. No one was killed and only because the Lord was watching over us and no one was hurt. In the late spring of 1973 I had moved back from the coast and had gone to work as a welder for M&E Sales. My bossman's cousin who was a classmate of mine from high school lived in Jackson. My boss wanted me to go to see him there. I borrowed my dad's Chevy Cheyenne for the trip. It was a custom job with a 350 cu engine and a 255 horse power motor complete with a camper package. I had admired it and was already in the process of buying it from my dad. Before heading out to Jackson, I stopped at the package store for a 5th of Old Crow. Then in Jackson my date and I went to a couple of bars where we had a few drinks and danced a while. When I took her to her mom's house and started to leave for home, she tried to get me to sleep over on their couch and not drive home before sobering up some. I refused and left for home around midnight. I got as far as Brandon when a Mississippi highway patrolman pulled me over in the middle of town. I had been doing 70 mph thru town but he let me go with only a warning. It was time for his shift to end, so he just told me to be more careful going home. By the time I got to Raleigh I was too sleepy as well as too drunk to be driving and I went to sleep….left the road and hit an oak tree. The last time I had looked at the speedometer, I was doing 75 mph! I was later told that the tree was over 100 years old and bigger around than I could reach with both arms. Needless to say it hadn't budged when I hit it but my head had gone thru the windshield. I had not been wearing a seat belt and was knocked out for a while. When I woke up, I could not get the doors to open but had the window open for cool air to keep me awake. It was 1:30 in the morning and all I could do was to call out real loudly for help. The town marshal (today's police) apparently heard me and came and got me out of the truck. He took me to the Raleigh Hospital emergency room. They got glass out of my scalp, sewed me up and kept me there for 3-4 days. In the meantime my dad and brother-in-law went to the junkyard to see about his truck and they found my empty Old Crow bottle under the seat. There was another pickup just like mine, same color and model at the same junk yard. A lady had recently been killed in it. The Lord had been watching out for me again! Then in 1989 the good Lord saved me yet a 3rd time! It was in the summer of that year and I had a 1970 Chevelle SS. It had a 402 cubic engine big block and was more like a race car. It only had one bucket seat, no carpet, open exhaust with no muffler and a new red paint job with white stripes, It was slick but I wanted a street car and a friend wanted my Chevelle so he watched from my driveway as I drove it down the street. The motor was cold and the big block was busting up some, but I gassed it past them and backed it down CR 8 where it crossed CR 151. I tried it again and this time it went fast. The road had a fresh cover of rocks that were thick on the edge of the road. I was going pretty fast and as I let off the gas, the back end of the car got in those rocks and I lost control of the car! It went sideways about 700 feet, hit a bank and flipped over, landing upside
down. That landing flattened the top of the car but I walked away again, even tho I had been without a helmet and not in a seat belt. The good Lord was watching over me yet again! Then in the summer of 1990, I was at my girlfriend Nell's house putting a tag on her car when I had a bad asthma attack. She, who has now been my wife for 28 years, called an ambulance. It came but passed her driveway and she ran out to the road to flag it down. By the time the EMTs got into the house, I was on the floor not breathing. After failing to fully revive me, they loaded me into the ambulance and rushed me with lights flashing and sirens blaring to the emergency room. A neighbor stayed back to close up the house for Nell who road without a seatbelt in the front of the ambulance. While one paramedic worked on me the driver took less than 15 minutes to get to the hospital. When he asked Nell if she'd ever ridden that fast in the red Chevelle under her carport, she laughingly told him “Oh yes! And faster!”. Dr. Wallace, my pulmonary specialist, told Nell to call my family in and as he was about to connect me, already blue, to life support, I started breathing. God had saved me yet another time! Then in 2000 or 2001, (hard to recall which), I came to “close call” number 5. After having had several beers at a friend's house, I had headed home on a rainy and wet Hwy 15. Right at the Tullahoma Creek bridge my '95 Caprice Classic hydroplaned off of the road, hit a light pole cable, spun around 5 or 6 times and landed, nose first in the creek. The front half of the car went under water with only the rear of it visible from the highway. Water came in pretty fast, and the door could not be opened! I was able to crawl onto the back seat and open a back door to get out. I walked back to my friend's house and he gave me a ride home. The rest is another story, but the good Lord had saved me yet again. “ Close call” #6 I remember quite well. It happened at Memphis on the 13th and 14th of 2013. My son and I had gone to Memphis to the Super Chevy show. We had been the year before and had taken the Grumpy car and won TOP 10 Editor's Choice out of 527 cars entered. What an honor that had been for me and my son Billy! Then in 2013 we decided to see if we could do it again. So on Friday we headed out for Memphis. We went to the track, unloaded the car and trailer and then went to our motel in West Memphis, Arkansas. The next morning we went to McDonald's for breakfast. I got a sausage biscuit and a cup of coffee. When we got to the track, I was hurting in my chest but I thought it was just indigestion. Neither Rolaids, Mylanta or anything I tried helped. I gave it to midmorning to get better but my son told me that if I did not let the EMT at the track check me out, he was going to take me to the emergency room. I went to the EMT who told me I was having a heart attack! He put nitro under my tongue and gave me a blood thinning shot in my stomach. They took me to a north Memphis hospital where doctors ran tests and hooked me up to a heart monitor. That was on a Saturday and they planned a heart cath for Monday. I told them that if I was to have surgery I wanted it to be done in Mississippi. Monday and Tuesday came and went with no heart cath and I told them that if it had not been done by Wednesday, I was going to Laurel, Ms. They said that if I did, the insurance would not pay. My wife and daughter had been in Memphis since Sunday, so around lunch I checked myself out of the hospital and headed for Jasper County. My wife rode with my son and I with my daughter. We prayed all the way home for God to spare my life and He did so again. After about 7 hours of riding we got home but as soon as stepped my foot on the carpet, it hit me again! Nell told me not to go in but to get back in the car and they took me straight to South Central Regional Medical Center emergency room. They worked on me and called my doctor. They did the heart cath that night and sent me to Forrest General the next day. After a few more tests, I had surgery on Thursday. Did really well so they sent me home on Sunday. All of the wrecks I have had, except for the 1st one were alcohol related. Perhaps they did get my attention. I hope the telling of these “close calls” may help someone else to find the Lord and to draw closer to Him. I have been fooling with cars for 60 years and turned 79 years young in March. ………. Colnic Design has recently gained attention and appreciation for its unique designs, merging artwork with Motorsports. Netherlands native Jos Hammer is the scrap metal artist behind Colnic Design. His unique sculptures, made from old iron scrapmetal and motorcycle parts, include pieces such as raptors, flowers, animals, sewing machine hot rods and even his own twist on beloved characters from Harry Potter. The 39 year old father of two named the website and Facebook page after his sons. He merged their names, Colin and Nick, to create Colnic Designs. The designs began from Jos' favorite hobby; making sculptures from old iron and motorcycle parts. Jos has a motorcycle shop with his brother, so an array of old parts were always available. Jos described having several old gas tanks on the shelf, and how upon looking at them, he always sees a certain shape in it. That is how Jos started four years ago when he turned a tank into an eagle. The first piece was a blue Kawasaki eagle. The eagle art is now in a private Kawasaki Museum in the Netherlands. After he placed a photo of that first piece on his Facebook page, Jos received many responses. In response to all the interest, he decided to make an owl. The owl also became very beautiful. At the current time, Jos Hammer is building a Harley Davidson Eagle. He did not have any formal training, instead the creations are just a hobby for him. He also builds special motorcycles, like cafe racers and classic superbikes. Jos described
how he sees his ideas from the parts, “The ideas are in my head. The red eagle is my interpretation of the Harry Potter Feniks. Some of his creations are for sale on his website. He welcomes people who like his artwork to take a look at his website: www.colnicdesign.com or you can follow him on Facebook or Instagram @colnic_design

Praising God! Welcome back everyone! It feels like it's been quite a while since I wrote to you all! I had to skip last month, and I apologize for that! That leaves me with a LOT to cover this month…so here we go!!! First off, let's talk about our trailer situation. We went with plan A…we are going to keep on keeping on with what we have for now! We will revisit this subject later. As you all know, we have a new (new to us) car this season. We raced it 1 time at the close of the 2019 season and it was amazing! We opened the 2020 season at our home track (Hattiesburg Speedway) on February 28, in front of a packed house! Chase started 5th in his heat and quickly and precisely drove his new hotrod to a solid 2nd place finish! We were feeling good about our shot at a top 3 finish for the feature! Before the feature, I noticed an issue with the car, but chose to ignore it for the time being as we were seemingly good to go! That decision would later haunt me!!! The sprint cars were the main attraction for the night, and they didn't disappoint with a super star field full of local hotfoots as well as traveling professional racers. Tony Stewart was present again, but it was the M-1 of Mark Smith from Sunbury, PA at the checkered for the win! The track was challenging all night, as it usually gets bumpy on the nights that the sprints are there. We fired off for the Feature from the 4th position and quickly claimed the 3rd spot. As we went green flag racing for several laps, Chase continued searching for the fastest line around the bullring! I noticed his left rear tire was lifting off the ground when he ran through the ruts in front of me. Hmmmm… A caution came out, and as they re-fired, Chase made a huge run for the 2nd position going hard into turn 1 on the high side! It looked awesome, but that quickly turned to fear, as his car turned him around in front of the hard charging pack! It happened right in front of me, and it felt like slow motion as a couple cars cleared him before he took a HARD, solid, t-bone to the driver's door while simultaneously getting hit in the front end too! I immediately panicked because I just knew he was injured! As I anxiously waited, they gave the all clear that he was OK! It was only then that I realized the car that hit him was his teammate/ best friend Jade! Jade had nowhere to go and there was no way he could've avoided this! As you can only imagine, things (in my mind) just went from bad to worse! Let me back up right here before I go any farther…Y'all may not know this, but this season, we (Chase Holland Racing) have started a new racing vlog. I'm sure the youngins reading this know what that is but for the “Grown-ups” I'll briefly explain what a vlog is! A vlog is basically what I do here, except instead of me writing and you reading, it's done by us videoing and you watching! We are filming ourselves working for hours on the car. We film everything at the shop and at the track, and then edit the clips down to hopefully tell a short interesting story about our adventures! It takes a great amount of time and work but so far, we are pleased with the response from our fans! It gives you all a real-life peek at what it takes to do what we do! If you don't follow us already on Facebook, then I encourage you to do so and check out our vlogs! You can find us by searching for Chase1motorsports Chase Holland Racing. We are on Facebook and YouTube. Now back to the story…As Chase was brought into the pits on the hook you could just feel the pain he was
Rolling through the pits at Whynot! Chase and Jade... Best friends and teammates!
Opening night damage... wearing at that moment! Just looking at him hurt me! His car was destroyed, and his ego was crushed! Worse than that, his main concern at that moment was his buddy's car and how bad it was damaged! Chase's car was BAD!!! The front frame horns were knocked to the right at least 8 inches! The rear-end appeared to be busted and was leaking oil everywhere. Everything I looked at was bent or broken! Adrian, (my wife/Chase's mom) didn't cut us any slack…what I mean by that is she has been standing by patiently while Chase and I have been investing so much time in our racing vlog. She hasn't complained a bit while we opened up our lives to complete strangers, but right now at this particular moment, the last thing I wanted was a video camera rolling! I immediately put away our camera and began loading up our tools! Adrian got face to face with Chase and asked if he was injured.

He said he wasn't. She then told him, (eye to eye) that he needed to get the camera and go inside the motorhome, alone, right then and say what was on his mind at this very moment! I thought it was a strange request at first, but now I realize she was right! She told Chase that she has watched Chase and I video and laugh and cut up for weeks! She basically told him if he really wanted people to know the reality of this sport, then you need to say how you feel right now! She told him she didn't care what he said or how he said it, but she wanted him to document his feelings! She told him that she was sure he wouldn't feel the same in the weeks, days, or even hours as he does right now! (She was so right!!!) He went inside to do what she requested while we continued loading up! I personally didn't want to talk to anyone myself! I was just sick feeling! At that moment a fan came up wanting to buy a t-shirt. He explained that he was there tonight with a sprint car team and he said they are fans of ours and follow us on Facebook! He offered us some encouragement as we got to know him better. He was there in Hattiesburg supporting his family sprint driver and they were all the way from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. That was pretty cool! As we rode home that night Adrian hit the play button on Chase's video….WOW!!!! I could feel his pain in every word he spoke! We made a group decision right then to share it with our fans… uncut and unedited! As the video began picking up views the response was enormous! We had offers of encouragement, help, money, and even a new chassis. That felt great but we didn't post for sympathy! We respectfully declined all offers! We also received some unwanted personal messages/comments that frankly made me want to punch people in the face! That's the ugly side of being in the public view on everything. We followed up that video with an explanation of how it all unfolded, and we went to work on our car!...That's what racers do! We had a ton of repairs to make in a very short week to make our previously scheduled race at Whynot Motorsports park in Meridian, MS. Our teammates worked hand in hand with us to get our car ready while also making repairs to their car! Our friend John Varhol was able to get our car on the frame machine at his work (Special thanks to Shane and Natalie Lester at Precision Paint and Body) as they had us fixed up good as new in no time! We were able to make the Friday night practice at Whynot with the newly repaired car! The car was super-fast straight off the trailer! After 5 rounds of practice Friday night, we felt like we had enough data to put her in the top 5 Saturday night! We pitted next to our teammates, Jade and Chase's mentor Noah Daspit. Noah has been the key factor of success for both Chase and Jade! The boys respect him and really look up to his achievements in racing! Noah continued to offer the boys advice and tips about the racetrack and what to expect for track conditions! In qualifying Chase was able to pull out a 4th

fastest overall time among the stacked field of talented drivers, all competing for the custom title belt prize and the $1000 check naming the 2020 “Battle of the States” Champion! Noah qualified 6th and Jade qualified 8th fastest! The 2nd heat for the modified division found Chase sharing the front row with the nights 2nd fastest qualifier, Ben Stephens (34). Row 2 was covered in red, as Noah was on the inside and Jade was outside. When the green flag dropped it was Ben Stephens making it to turn 1 first, but Chase was gaining momentum on the high side! Chase was the leader at the flag stand for lap 2, as the two of them continued some good clean side by side racing. Ben eventually pulled ahead, as Chase and Noah battled all the way to the checkered for 2nd! It was Chase by a bumper at the line for 2nd, which locked us in for a 4th place starting position for the 25-lap feature event! We prepared the car and discussed scenarios as it is time to see what we got! Feature race time! Here we go…We immediately take over the 3rd position and it's obvious we have a fast hotrod! Chase settles into a line around the bottom of the track and gets into a rhythm! Ben Stephens is leading, Toby Hodge is 2nd, and Chase is a close 3rd, with a back bumper full of Noah Daspit! Noah makes a quick pass on the inside of Chase going into turn 1 and Noah quickly drifts to the high line! Chase counters back with a dive to the inside of Noah coming off turn 4 and down the front straightaway. It appeared that Chase might get that position back until Noah reached down on the floorboard and opened that HOSS of an engine up under the flagstand! WOW!!!! Noah's spoiler scraped down the front wall putting off a super cool looking display of sparks! Chase settled in behind Noah as they both began working on Toby Hodge for the next position. Noah got around Toby and a lap or so later so did Chase! This puts Noah in 2nd and Chase in 3rd! Noah caught Ben Stephens while he was trying to get around some lapped cars and Noah claimed that top spot! Chase got hung up and almost got in trouble trying to get by the lapped cars himself. Once he cleared them, he got back in his rhythm and went after Ben Stephens for 2nd! He caught him with 2 laps to go and was able to get beside him coming to the checkered but was a little short at the flag stand! Where was Jade you ask??? Jade was inching his way to Chase, lap after lap! He finished 5th but had managed to close in a lot of space on the leaders in the caution free race! Noah and the boys were all really fast and it felt good to have a great run with minimal damage! This year so far looks promising for the VooDoo 34 Racing Team by Noah Daspit! Thank you all for following along! I know I sound like a broken record sometimes but I'm going to say it again…WE COULDN'T DO THIS WITH OUT YOU ALL!!! We really appreciate all of our fans, our racing friends and especially our awesome sponsors! We Thank you! Until next time…Chavus

" A old man was at a dirt track sitting in the grandstands watching the races when a young man sitting close to him said to the old man “ can you believe this place they have a low car count the payout to racers is low and hardly anyone in the stands hamburgers are $4.00 at this place & they want to charge us $11.00 to come watch! we should just boycott this place” Old man looks at the young man “son did you ever go to a boxing match or a Nascar race or maybe a NFL football game or wrestling event the young man says “Sure old man I been to all them things they are awesome” old man reply’s I happy you have so much fun there but I wonder why you sit here and list in detail everything about this lil ole country Track that you don’t like but you and others like you go to a concert or wrestling or monster truck show and you travel hundred miles or further to go to and don’t get home to the wee hours in the morning and the event may last two hours and you will pay $35.00 to $150.00 per person to go watch and then pay them $10.00 for a spot to park your car and while you are there you will go get you a hamburger that will cost you $8.00 or more and a coke $5.00 or more and popcorn another $6.00 & I have not heard you say a word bad about that event what so ever! Them events you are paying so much for them owners & or promoters have no clue who you are or who you Family is when is the last time you went to one of them events and see them pass a hat around to collect needed money for someone that frequents their events or say a pray for your loved ones or a moment of silence or maybe a memorial race in their memory! when have you see the promoters of such big events throw a fan appreciation night like nearly all your Lil ole dirt tracks do at least once a year, when’s last time you see them let the little ones bring their bicycles and power wheels and hand out Trophys to the winners free of charge, when’s the last time you seen big productions do a Easter egg hunt or a nickel / candy toss or costume contest with hundreds of dollars in special event cost for prizes and or candy ect.. But you want to sit here and gripe about how much this small time promoter is making at this track! I am not saying you should go kiss up to him for what he does cause I can assure you he does this for three reasons 1- he Loves the Sport 2- he likes to see people have fun And last but not least 3- he loves to see kids with smiling faces So if you think he charges to much and makes to much money maybe you need to sit down and figure up just how much money that man has invested in this ole dirt track and what the insurance cost and the electric bill cost and maintance cost are and all other bills that go with this place! Then maybe you will see just how unselfish he is and how much that promoter loves this sport and that he is only trying to keep alive this great sport for future generations to enjoy! But when you and others go around and bash the Track every chance you get to everyone you see in person or on social media! Why would you expect there to be a good crowd here! Son if you really love this
sport and you must cause I see you here nearly every week and I see your eyes light up when your favorite driver passes the leader! why don’t you try to help this great sport instead of killing it these small town dirt tracks are struggling as it is they sure don’t need any help from you to shut them down! Why don’t you tell everyone how much you love the sport and how this little ole dirt track on the edge of town is struggling and could really use their support and tell them All the great things they do every time them gates are open and ask them to tell their friends come support this wonderful sport filled with so much stuff for the family to have fun locally! One more thing son I know you are a collage grad with degree and all and probably don’t care what a old man that did not even graduate high school has to say but if you take just one speck of advice if you truly love this sport as much as I do then when you leave here you go talk this Track up for 1 year every day and every week in person and on social media and when you see someone bash the Track get them to the side explain to them how what they are doing is killing the sport and please reframe from bashing something you love and that nothing is perfect but this ole dirt tracks all we got and we ain’t getting any more. then you come back here in exactly one year and look around and you will see more seats in these stands filled you will see improvements being made to this run down ole dirt track and you will see more cars racing and even more things done for the fans and the kids. Son the bottom line is you see that old man up there he has the title of the promoter but in my humble opinion he is not the true promoter he is the caretaker! the gate keeper so to speak, a person that for a short period of time will watch over this great sport! a person that has more often than not has chosen to sacrifice his life to work longer hours and be harassed and lied on and basically ridiculed year after year for much less money than he could make doing a job he don’t love as much as dirt track racing, so you see he is just the person that loves this sport enough to keep it alive for future generations you my Son and others like you are the promoters of this ole dirt track and other Lil dirt tracks like this one! So next time you want to bash this ole dirt track just bite your lip and think is this helping the problem or I creating the problems and if you start to fix the problem others will follow and once again you will see these Little ole country dirt tracks start to boom again otherwise you will someday see all these lil ole dirt tracks gone forever " - Wayne Tidwell Wayne Tidwell

Meet Groovy 69, she belongs to Todd Adams, the communications specialist at Pearl River Resort. Todd has been in the Public Relations Department since 2014 and writes news releases, takes photos and videos, creates graphics, and works with the news media. “This is my first classic car, I bought it in 2016,” said Todd, “I really love the muscle cars from the late 60s through the 70s.” Groovy 69 is a powder blue 1969 Mustang coupe with a black vinyl top and the original 302 V8. “It's a mid-level restoration and great weekend cruiser. I enjoy letting people look at it and listening to their stories about the cars they grew up with.” Complete with a hula girl in the rear window, Groovy 69 is a perfect combination of flower power AND horse power!”
