We think ordinary; God thinks extraordinary. We think, "Let me manage this addiction;" God thinks freedom. We ask for the possible when God wants to do the impossible. We look at things logically, but God is a supernatural God. He specializes in exceeding our expectations. What He has planned for you is bigger, more rewarding, more fulfilling than you’ve dreamed. Paul said in Ephesians that God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all you can ask or think. If you give up every time things don’t go your way, you don’t want it bad enough. You have to dig your heels in and say, “I am in this for the long haul. I know what God has spoken to me. I will accomplish this dream. I will get well. I will see my family restored. I will meet the right person.” You’re not moved by what’s not working out, by how long it’s taking, by who’s not for you. You know Who is for you: the Most High God. “God will not allow things to happen that won’t somehow move you to your destiny.” … Joel Osteen

Cruizin’ in the passin’ lane By: Jimbo There once was a woman who woke up one morning, looked in the mirror, and noticed she had only three hairs on her head. Well," she said, "I think I'll braid my hair today?" So she did and she had a wonderful day. The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and saw that she had only two hairs on her head. "H-M-M," she said, "I think I'll part my hair down the middle today?" So she did and she had a grand day. The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and noticed that she had only one hair on her head. "Well," she said, "today I'm going to wear my hair in a pony tail." So she did and she had a fun, fun day. The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and noticed that there wasn't a single hair on her head. YEA!" she exclaimed, "I don't have to fix my hair today!" Attitude is everything. Be kinder than necessary, everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle. Here are some of the emails & letters sent in….

Hello Again Jimbo! I must take the opportunity to once again thank you for your help in reviving the AFRH Gulfport Cruise Through event. As you know we had over 750 cars visit for an AMAZING day for our veterans. Our retirees and veterans are already excited about this year's event. Any assistance you can help us with in getting the word out to cruisers coming to the Gulf Coast. This year the AFRH will welcome cruisers who are interested in driving through to wave and say "thanks" to our veterans on Tuesday, October 8th, from 23pm. While this is not an "official" cruising event, we hope that many cruisers will stop by on their way to and from other events that afternoon. Thank you for your help, and we look forward to an even bigger and better experience this year! Jimbo, I was in a terrible accident where my face was severely burned. The doctor told the me that they couldn't graft any skin from my body because I was too skinny. So my wife offered to donate some of her own skin. However, the only skin on her body that the doctor

felt was suitable would have to come from her buttocks. My wife and I agreed that we would tell no one about where the skin came from, and we requested that the doctor also honor our secret. After all, this was a very delicate matter. After the surgery was completed, everyone was astounded at my new face. I had to admit I was more handsome than I was before! All my friends and relatives just went on and on about my youthful beauty! One day, I was alone with my wife, and I was overcome with emotion at her sacrifice. I said, "Dear, I just want to thank you for everything you did for me. How can I possibly repay you? "My darling," she replied, I get all the thanks I need every time I see your mother kiss you on the cheek. Name withheld to protect identity.. Ladies…. Careful who you kiss in the cheek, this guy could be local… Jimbo Jimbo, Here is something for your readers to think about when negative people are doing their best to rain on their parade. Remember this story the next time you run into someone who knows nothing, cares less, and tries to make your life miserable. I went to my hairdresser's to get my hair styled for a trip to Rome with my husband. I mentioned the trip to the hairdresser, who responded: "Rome? Why would anyone want to go there? It's crowded and dirty! You're crazy to go to Rome. So, how are you getting there?" "We're taking Continental," I replied. "We got a great rate!" "Continental?" exclaimed the hairdresser." That's a terrible airline. Their planes are old, their flight attendants are ugly, and they're always late. So, where are you staying in Rome?" "We'll be at this exclusive little place over on Rome's Tiber River called Teste." "Don't go any further. I know that place. Everybody thinks its gonna be something special and exclusive, but it's really a dump, the worst hotel in the city! The rooms are small, the service is surly, and they're overpriced. So, whatcha' doing when you get there?" "We're going to go to see the Vatican and we hope to see the Pope." "That's rich," laughed the hairdresser. "You and a million other people trying to see him. He'll look the size of an ant. Boy, good luck on this lousy trip of yours. You're going to need it." A month later, I returned to the shop for a hairdo. The hairdresser asked me about my trip to Rome. "It was wonderful," I explained, "not only were we on time in one of Continental's brand new planes, but it was overbooked, and they bumped us up to first class. The food and wine were wonderful, and I had a handsome 28-year-old steward who waited on me hand and foot and the hotel was great! They'd just finished a $5 million remodeling job, and now it's a jewel, the finest hotel in the city They, too, were overbooked, so they apologized and gave us their owner's suite at no extra charge!" "Well," muttered the hairdresser, "that's all well and good, but I know you didn't get to see the Pope." "Actually, we were quite lucky, because as we toured the Vatican, a Swiss Guard tapped me on the shoulder, and explained that the Pope likes to meet some of the visitors, and if I'd be so kind as to step into his private room and wait, the Pope would personally greet me. Sure enough, five minutes later, the Pope walked through the door and shook my hand! I knelt down and he spoke a few words to me." "Oh, really! What'd he say?" He said, "Where'd you get the crappy hairdo?" Shannon Jimbo, If you had purchased $1000 of shares in Delta Airlines one year ago, you would have $49.00 Today! If you had purchased $100 of shares in AIG, you would have $33.00. if you purchased $100 of shares in Lehman Brothers, you would have $0.00 today. But, if

yo...u purchased $100 worth of beer, turned in the aluminum cans for recycling, you would have $214.00 Therefore the best current investment plan is to drink heavily & recycle. It is called the 401-Keg Plan Robert Jimbo After three weeks in the Garden of Eden, God came to visit Eve. "So, how is everything going?" inquired God. "It is all so beautiful, God," she replied, "the sunrises and sunsets are breathtaking, the smells, the sights, everything is wonderful, but I have just this one problem. It is these breasts that you have given me. The middle one pushes the other two out and I am constantly knocking them with my arms, catching them on branches and snagging them on bushes. They are a real pain," reported Eve. Eve went on to tell God that since many other parts of her body came in pairs, such as her limbs, eyes, ears, etc., she felt that having only two breasts might leave her body more "symmetrically balanced," as she put it. "That is a fair point," replied God, "but it was my first shot at this, you know. I gave the animals six breasts, so I figured that you needed only half of those, but I see that you are right. I will fix it up right away." God reached down, removed the middle breast and tossed it into the bushes. Three weeks passed and God once again visited Eve in the Garden of Eden. "Well, Eve, how is my favorite creation?" "Just fantastic," she replied, "but for one oversight on your part. You see, all the animals are paired off. The ewe has a ram and the cow has her bull; all the animals have a mate except me. I feel so alone." God thought for a moment and said, "You know, Eve, you are right. How could I have overlooked this? You do need a mate and I will immediately create a man from a part of you. Now let's see....where did I put that useless boob?" Now, doesn't THAT make more sense than that business about the rib? Nancy Jimbo, Carol's wedding day was fast approaching. Nothing could dampen her excitement, not even her parents' nasty divorce. Her mother had found the PERFECT dress to wear and would be the best dressed mother-of-the-bride ever! A week later, Carol was horrified to learn that her father's new young wife had bought the exact same dress! Carol asked her to exchange it, but she refused. "Absolutely not. I look like a million bucks in this dress, and I'm wearing it," she replied. Carol told her mother who graciously said, "Never mind sweetheart. I'll get another dress. After all, it's your special day." A few days later, they went shopping and did find another gorgeous dress. When they stopped for lunch, Carol asked her mother, "Are you going to return the other dress? You really don't have another occasion where you could wear it." She just smiled and replied, "Of course I do, dear. I'm wearing it to the rehearsal dinner!" Now I ask you! Is there a woman out there, anywhere, who wouldn't enjoy this story? Cousin Alice Jimbo, A minister told his congregation, "Next week I plan to preach about the sin of lying. To help you understand my sermon, I want you all to read Mark 17." The following Sunday, as he prepared to deliver his sermon, the minister asked for a show of hands. He wanted to know how many had read Mark 17. Every hand went up. The minister smiled and said, "Mark has only sixteen chapters. I will now proceed with my sermon on the sin of lying." ….

Susan was driving in Northern Arizona when she saw an elderly Navajo woman ... walking on the side of the road. As the trip was a long and quiet one, she stopped the car and asked the Navajo woman if she would like a ride. With a silent nod of thanks, the woman got into the car. Resuming the journey, Sally tried in vain to make a bit of small talk with the Navajo woman. The old woman just sat silently, looking intently at everything she saw, studying every little detail, until she noticed a brown bag on the seat next to Sally. "What's in the bag?" asked the old woman. Susan looked down at the brown bag and said, "It's a bottle of wine. I got it for my husband." The Navajo woman was silent for another moment or two. Then speaking with the quiet wisdom of an elder, she said, "Good trade."

Rakes, I’m looking forward to setting up The Coast Cruizers ‘Hot Rod Alley’ & Gulf Coast MotorSports Pit Stop tent….. Jimbo

The Queen and I recently took a few road trips, that for me were very unforgettable. We had been to Central Nebraska several times visiting her Grandparents. But I had never been in or around the eastern end where Lincoln is located. She and I attended a 50th wedding anniversary and family gathering for her uncle and his bride. Since we arrived a day early, we went venturing about. We visited the state capitol building, a very well built and beautifully designed building, we took the guided tour and were quite impressed with all that we were able to see there. Next up I remembered I bought pieces and parts from a company that just so happened to be a few miles away from our hotel. So off we went in the direction of Speedway Motors. An extremely large warehouse, where just about anything you need for a car or truck hotrod project you could imagine is housed. I really wanted the opportunity to look around the inside or ride a scooter around that warehouse, just to admire that operation. But I understand it’s a parts supply business, and folks just can’t take a stroll or ride through an operation so large. So, we bought a couple T-shirts which allowed us to get in to the museum, which is right across the street. The Museum is three stories tall, and is filled with any and all things automotive. From dirt tracks, Indy cars, Funny cars to Midgets, Salt Flat cars to Iconic customs. Its all housed and cared for there. There are many engines from all kinds of racecars as well. There is even a working machine shop on the second floor, of course its behind glass, I would have liked getting to go in there too. The third floor is filled with toys, cars and bikes, from tiny toys to large pedal cars all shapes and sizes. We walked around in there admiring the vast amount of stuff these folks had amassed. And it was all so well laid out and displayed. I was amazed at all of the History of the automobile that was on display there. It was like walking back in time seeing all of these iconic vehicles. After the family gathering the Queen suggested we take a side venture to South Dakota, so off we went. Our next stop would be Custer South Dakota. The Crazy Horse monument is just a few miles from there so after checking in to the hotel, we were on our way. You could see it from the road we were on but we decided to take the tour and see it a little closer. It seems not much progress has been made, however one thing I was reminded of, it is a 3-dimension, giant sculpture, everything you see on one side of the mountain is being done on the backside as well. A monumental task in more ways than one. But our main reason we went up that way was to see Mount Rushmore. Off we headed north just a few miles up the road from Crazy Horse and a few miles up a twisty and mountainous side road to the Mount Rushmore National Memorial. I must say, this was a very impressive work of art on a very large scale. My words can’t describe my feelings as I stood in awe admiring those four great faces, of four great men on that mountain. And the amount of work and sacrifice that so many men and women made to carve those faces in that mountain. I know I can see parts and pieces in hunks of metal long before they are carved out, I can’t in my mind anyway, figure out how Mr. Borglum saw those four faces in that spot on that mountain. A visionary indeed is an understatement. In the scheme of things on our past visits with her Grandparents we were so close to all of this history we never once thought to go to some of the places we finally got to see. Our focus was as it should have been on the Grandparents, which was a blessing too. I might add the country side we travelled to all of these spots are also beautiful too, corn fields, wheat fields, and soy beans, sand hills and farms for miles and miles. This is a Beautiful Country and we are Mighty Blessed to be but a small part of it. Put these spots on your list of places to visit, you will not be disappointed. From the road weary Carriage House, until next month, …… Gizmo

Had to get a picture of my new roaster, not really. Cool hotrod T. Got my name all over it.

Big Daddy Ed Roths Outlaw, another model car from the real deal.

I like these Gilmore pedal cars.

Auto repair shops will go away.

Everyone thinks Don Garlits had the first rear engine dragster, it just aint so.

Leave us alone a little while with this one we could mess it up , I mean make it better.

Thinking now this ones a 32 after further review.

I was thinking this one is what Jethro could brang to the race track with Uncle Jed, Granny, and Ellie Mae. Beverly Hillbillies Special. Wheee Doggie.

I got a model of this Monograms Big T. I could do this in full size. Just like this one.

Look at all them flathead manifolds. Nice little T hotrod.

OLD PATHS...... I liked the Old Paths, when Moms were at home, Dads were at work, brothers went into the army, and sisters got married before having children! Crime did not pay, hard work did, and people knew the difference. Moms could cook, Dads would work, children would behave. Husbands were loving, wives were supportive, and children were polite. Women wore the jewelry, and men wore the pants. Women looked like ladies, men looked like gentlemen, and children looked decent. People loved the truth, and hated a lie. They came to church to get IN, NOT to get OUT! Hymns sounded Godly, sermons sounded helpful, rejoicing sounded normal, and crying sounded sincere. Cursing was wicked, drugs were for illness. The flag was honored, America was beautiful, and God was welcome! To be called an American was worth dying for, to be called an American was worth living for. To be called a traitor was a shame!!

A gasoline engine has 20,000 individual parts. An electrical motor has 20. Electric cars are sold with lifetime guarantees and are only repaired by dealers. It takes only 10 minutes to remove and replace an electric motor. Faulty electric motors are not repaired in the dealership but are sent to a regional repair shop that repairs them with robots. Your electric motor malfunction light goes on, so you drive up to what looks like a Jiffy-auto wash, and your car is towed through while you have a cup of coffee and out comes your car with a new electric motor! Gas stations will go away. Parking meters will be replaced by meters that dispense electricity. Companies will install electrical recharging stations; in fact, they've already started. You can find them at select Dunkin Donuts locations. Most (the smart) major auto manufacturers have already designated money to start building new plants that only build electric cars. Coal industries will go away. Gasoline/oil companies will go away. Drilling for oil will stop So say goodbye to OPEC! Homes will produce and store more electrical energy during the day and then they use and will sell it back to the grid. The grid stores it and dispenses it to industries that are high electricity users. Has anybody seen the Tesla roof? A baby of today will only see personal cars in museums. The FUTURE is approaching faster than most of us can handle. In 1998, Kodak had 170,000 employees and sold 85% of all photo paper worldwide. Within just a few years, their business model disappeared and they went bankrupt. Who would have thought of that ever happening? What happened to Kodak will happen in a lot of industries in the next 5-10 years and, most people don't see it coming. Did you think in 1998 that 3 years later, you would never take pictures on film again? With today's smart phones, who even has a camera these days? Yet digital cameras were invented in 1975. The first ones only had 10,000 pixels, but followed Moore's law. So as with all exponential technologies, it was a disappointment for a time, before it became way superior and became mainstream in only a few short years. It will now happen again (but much faster) with Artificial Intelligence, health, autonomous and electric cars, education, 3D printing, agriculture and jobs. Forget the book, “Future Shock, welcome to the 4th Industrial Revolution. Software has disrupted and will continue to disrupt most traditional industries in the next 5-10 years. UBER is just a software tool, they don't own any cars, and are now the biggest taxi company in the world! (Continued on page 13)

By: Joyce Lachaussee In 1956, I was 9 years old and there were 5 kids in my family. Our Mother and Dad sure would have loved a station wagon like this 1956 instead of the '55 Chevy family car. Nolan Goodwin from Big Point brought this '56 210 Chevy Wagon that he has had for five years. He goes to Pettit Jean Arkansas Swap meet every year and found this wagon there. It was stock when he bought it and has since modified it with a 283 V8 automatic. He has rebuilt the transmission and geared the rear end. In addition to the wagon, Nolan has a '37 Buick business coupe, a '55 Pontiac Chieftain and a '52 Chevy sport couple. Nice nostalgic ride Nolan.

Another station wagon that showed up made the trip all the way from Kosciusko. This '58 Edsel was manufactured from 1958-1960. Here is a car the media swayed public opinion and doomed it from the beginning. Now this wagon is a sought after piece of history and is unique. James Young found the Edsel eight years ago. It had been in a warehouse for 40 years. When he contacted the owner to get more details, he was told it was a rust free car. Upon questioning him about rust free, the owner became upset as if no one believed

10

SEPTEMBER 2019

him. James told him no harm meant but "rust free" in south Mississippi means you can put a coffee can through the floor board. Fortunately, the car lived up to its advertised boast and was really rust free. James put a Coyote 2014 Mustang engine in the wagon with electric overdrive, automatic transmission and cold air. He has made three power tours in this wagon. In addition to the wagon, James has a '62 Corvair convertible and once upon a time did some drag racing with the likes of Dale Poole and James' cousin, Danny Young. Happy to see this excellent Edsel. Thanks for making the lengthy drive.

Newton Wheeler of Wilmer brought this '49 Chevy truck for the first time to Hardee's. He changed the Chevy to a V6 with automatic transmission. He said it's a work in progress and one of the future modifications will be air conditioning! Maybe the temperature today had something to do with that decision - 98+. Newton had lots of good help on this truck from his friends - Greg Prine and Donny Smith. After the '49 is finished, he plans on restoring a '53 GMC truck. Fair warning Greg and Donny, there may be another project where you can help. He also has a '64 Corvair Spider in his collection. Once again, an enjoyable time was had by all. Please feel free to come join us every second Friday of the month for hot coffee, good biscuits and some prevarication of car modifications/restorations.

They had 22 cars/trucks come out to spend the evening with them. Been a hot summer but we still out running the roads supporting our friends. Ask any taxi driver if they saw that coming. Airbnb is now the biggest hotel company in the world, although they don't own any properties. Ask Hilton Hotels if they saw that coming. Artificial Intelligence: Computers become exponentially better in understanding the world. This year, a computer beat the best Goplayer in the world, 10 years earlier than expected. In the USA, young lawyers already don't get jobs. Because of IBM's Watson, you can get legal advice (so far for right now, the basic stuff) within seconds, with 90% accuracy compared with 70% accuracy when done by humans. So, if you study law, stop immediately. There will be 90% fewer lawyers in the future, (what a thought!) only omniscient specialists will remain. Watson already helps nurses diagnosing cancer, its 4 times more accurate than human nurses. Facebook now has a pattern recognition software that can recognize faces better than humans. In 2030, computers will become more intelligent than humans. Autonomous cars: In 2018 the first selfdriving cars are already here. In the next 2 years, the entire industry will start to be disrupted. You won't want to own a car anymore as you will call a car with your phone, it will show up at your location and drive you to your destination. You will not need to park it you will only pay for the driven distance and you can be productive while driving. The very young children of today will never get a driver's license and will never own a car. This will change our cities, because we will need 90-95% fewer cars. We can transform former parking spaces into parks. 1.2 million people die each year in car accidents worldwide including distracted or drunk driving. We now have one accident every 60,000 miles; with autonomous driving that will drop to 1 accident in 6 million miles. That will save a million lives plus worldwide each year.

Most traditional car companies will doubtless become bankrupt. Traditional car companies will try the evolutionary approach and just build a better car, while tech companies (Tesla, Apple, Google) will do the revolutionary approach and build a computer on wheels. Look at what Volvo is doing right now; no more internal combustion engines in their vehicles starting this year with the 2019 models, using all electric or hybrid only, with the intent of phasing out hybrid models. Many engineers from Volkswagen and Audi; are completely terrified of Tesla and so they should be. Look at all the companies offering all electric vehicles. That was unheard of, only a few years ago. Insurance companies will have massive trouble because, without accidents, the costs will become cheaper. Their car insurance business model will disappear. Real estate will change. Because if you can work while you commute, people will move farther away to live in a more beautiful or affordable neighborhood. Electric cars will become mainstream about 2030. Cities will be less noisy because all new cars will run on electricity. Cities will have much cleaner air as well. (Can we start in Los Angeles, please?) Electricity will become incredibly cheap and clean. Solar production has been on an exponential curve for 30 years, but you can now see the burgeoning impact. And it's just getting ramped up. Fossil energy companies are desperately trying to limit access to the grid to prevent competition from home solar installations, but that simply cannot continue - technology will take care of that strategy. Health: The Tricorder X price will be announced this year. There are companies who will build a medical device (called the "Tricorder" from Star Trek) that works with your phone, which takes your retina scan, your blood sample and you breath into it. It then analyses 54 bio-markers that will identify nearly any Disease. There are dozens of phone apps out there right now for health purposes. WELCOME TO TOMORROW - it actually arrived a few years ago.

Hope you are doing well! The summer has flown by and I can’t say I’ll be sad to see the hot weather go bye bye! My days are still 12 hours a day M-F, I have been enjoying my weekends. Tonight I drive a couple hundred miles for a dinner date I’ve been looking forward to. I also just purchased a fishing kayak, I am a block off the water and some good saltwater bayou fishing. I have been busy rigging it up with advice from kayak stores and You-Tube videos. But, once the weather starts to cool off, football starts and you know Cruisin’ The Coast on the MS Gulf Coast is coming. This year it seems to be coming faster than ever. Terry Mason’s Hot Rod Show is once again working the big kickoff to CTC, View The Cruise in downtown Gulfport on Sunday October 6. Gulfport Mainstreet and the City of Gulfport make this event happen with an incredible number of people working hard behind the scenes that make this event run almost flawless with mostly volunteers. Hundreds and hundreds of cars and thousands and thousands of spectators attend this event. Auto Zone really steps up to the plate to make this event happen covering the cost of expenses and donating a ton of door prizes. Performance Tire and Wheel, PTW is also an incredible sponsor, William Smith Paint and Body, Bud McQueen’s National Muffler Shop and Southern Camper Sales. We could not do this event without these sponsors. Be sure and buy a Mega 50/50 ticket from Gulfport Mainstreet, tickets will be $5 each or 5 tickets for $20 and the pot is always really big! The winner is drawn at 4 pm and you must be present to win. I would advise you if you are coming in a classic car to get there early for a good spot. When I am setting up at 5 am, the prime parking spots are going fast. There are plenty of places to get coffee and eat breakfast after you get parked. At lunch you have plenty of great choices to eat. The show area downtown also features plenty of bars and drink cups are OK on the street. With so many people and cars downtown you see it all and the show really takes on a festival type feel with stages of live music scattered around town. I cannot believe I am talking about Cruisin the Coast and already getting busy with the hundreds of details to make View The Cruise happen. The person that stands behind it all is Laurie Toups, Gulfport Mainstreet Director. Mayor Billy Hewes and Councilman RLee Flowers, both car guys, help keep this event on track for car guys! Be sure and stop by the Hot Rod show trailer and say hi!!! Enjoy your 17 FOREVER life and we’ll catch up to you at a car event down the road! til next month…

Welcome back to this monthly Kustom feed of creativity that I hope you enjoy as much as myself. This month’s and a few more to come will be all around this hood and the process I took to get it to it’s finished state. This article will cover the first stage of my attack. The mind bending “west coast” low-rider style which has always been my favorite!!! 1. This hood was originally blue and I found it behind the shop. The damage was behind the hood and it’s very light so a perfect canvas for my guys at AUTOMOTIVE COLOR who are sponsoring this particular piece with their great selections of materials and products. I went ahead and shot it a very course silver and one layer of clear to lock it down. 2. To do something symmetrical you have to have guides so I very easily just ran fine line tape down every curve of the hood and the center to give me reference points. 3. Now I really didn’t have a plan and just ran tape along side my reference points and went horizontal here and there. Now you have to make decisions like “do I want this to go underneath that or over that?” So I continue to fill

this whole thing up working from one side to the other in a mirror image kind of process. 4. As seen in the image your tape should be just over lapping and look like this. You will cut all tape in the end to get your final lay out. 5. It will look crazy at first and it will take time but the end result is worth the wait. I believe it took me 2 hours to lay this out. 6. I went ahead and masked where I needed to and sprayed the entire thing with a reduced yellow transparent paint to tint it and keep the effect underneath still reflective. 7. As you see right here I am covered with tape. I kill the tackiness of the tape by putting it on my clothes over and over so it won’t lift my previous layer of paint. I will do this over and over this entire 9hr process it took for me to get this far.

8. I begin by just picking a spot and starting because I definitely do not want to over think this. It is very easy to get lost in projects like these so I do both sides at the same time on each side of panel. I have 2 airbrushes loaded up. One with red and the other with a nice mint color. I mask each side off and work tops and bottom. I really don’t have a plan, I just pick a section and mask both sides and color. I just make sure I do both sides at the same time. 9. I used all kinds of masking help like in this image you see I'm using plain printer paper. I just don’t want any overspray on anything because of the work I have involved. I will slowly get an idea on what section I want to attack next while I am working on the one at hand. On to the next… Masking both sides and throwing color in here and there. The goal for west coast style is to change every portion a hair. 10. It seems never ending and kind of is but you will come up with a plan as you go. I chose red as the main because it blends real nice over yellow and makes orange and other powerful colors as I go. The yellow on this panel is the key. The mint color turns light green when its reduced over yellow so instead of me just using 3 colors I am actually using

ten in a sense. This panel could be any colors and work but it will be hung up at a paint store so I wanted it very vibrant. 11. I had the pleasure of using this auto mask tape and plastic combo that AUTOMOTIVE COLOR sent down to me to try out and it was a pleasure. I simply stuck it to one hard edge on each side and sprayed my colors. Then I re-used it on the next portion and so on. It definitely made my life easy so contact them if you would like to try some out on a project, I definitely stand behind it. 12. I think at this point I am about 8 hours in on something so small. You just can’t rush on kustom paint or it will bite you back. The panels on the side of this hood will be 2 more articles to come until I finish this beast and its hanging up in the store. 13. Unmasked and cleared pretty good. The thing is when you have this many tape lines the paint builds up and you kind of want to bury it a little to smooth it out. I know I will be back to attack it again so I wasn’t as careful as normal. I just want it sealed and ready to be sanded again for the next layers . Thanks for reading and I can’t wait to show you what's next. -JOHN

A project like this will test your nerves but if you just take your time and have a plan it will be just fine. I’d love to receive some more images of the projects you have done at home, send me some stuff and maybe you will see your artwork in my next articles. Kids drawings are welcome too!!! Thanks again !!

Local to where I live in the Tampa Bay Area of Florida, a new memorial is seeking to honor veterans in an unusual and aquatic way. The sparkling blue waters off the coast of Clearwater Beach, Florida are now home to the nation’s first underwater dive memorial honoring our country’s veterans. Appropriately named The Circle of Heroes Veterans’ Memorial, the project is funded through private businesses, community donors and Pinellas County. Located a quarter-mile from the popular dive site Veteran’s Reef, Circle of Heroes will be located 40 feet below the surface of the water. Positioned 10 miles off the Florida Coast, The Circle of Heroes at Veteran’s Reef is merging marine sciences with the veterans community. Already uber popular with tourists, sunny Clearwater, Florida is known as the location for the true story and filming location of the movie A Dolphin Tale and nearby is Macdill Air Force base, which make it an ideal location for both diving and saluting our heroes. Creators recognized divers’ enthusiasm for underwater art, so like many popular dive destinations around the world, the Clearwater area aimed to feature their own underwater art display. Described as a place for healing and serenity, the first part of the memorial features twelve statues and was made a reality at a cost of around $140,000. Accessible to all divers, the memorial opened to the public on August fifth as it was installed on the sandy bottom of the Gulf of Mexico.

The creation has come to fruition thanks to a large number volunteers, from Eagle Scouts and up! The Circle of Heroes will be a premier international diving destination while additionally serving as a therapeutic place where veterans with physical and mental injuries can heal. The organization stated that the goal of this shrine is to not just honor our veterans, but also to serve them as diving trips to the Circle of Heroes can be used with therapeutic programs to help disabled veterans that may be struggling with PTSD, depression, trauma and other anxiety disorders. Organizers hope the calm, tranquil ocean waves can bring peace to veterans. For more information, to volunteer or to donate to the memorial, visit http://Vetmemorial.org/ For the latest news on the project, you can visit their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/circleofheroesFL which even lists the exact coordinates of the memorial.

The second part of the memorial will feature an additional twelve statues, for a total of 24 upon completion of the Circle of Heroes. With completion of the three ton monument planned for 2020, the entire project is expected to cost about $450,000 total as phase two will incorporate more detailed elements than the ones already in place. For those that are unable to get out on the water, there will be video cast to an onshore visitor center. Each of the two dozen military statues, standing 6 feet tall, will be placed in a 100-foot circle around a 4-foot high center monument. The 5,830-pound monument in the center of the circle will feature five bronze emblems, each representing one of the five branches of the United States Armed Forces — Air Force, Army, Marines, Navy, and Coast Guard. For installation on the ocean floor, organizers hired a barge with a crane and a 30 foot boom to lower the 12 statues. Each statue weighs an astounding 4,000 pounds. Even a small swell can keep the memorial from being laid so the team had to wait for calm water to begin installation of phase one. Former Congressman David Jolly’s uncle, Dr. Heywood Mathews was a local marine scientist and had the vision of an artificial reef memorial to honor veterans. Jolly told Tampa Bay’s Morning Blend that twenty years ago his uncle obtained the permit for an artificial reef made of broken concrete with a plaque honoring our veterans. When Jolly left office he teamed up with his uncle and expanded on the oceanic project. Former US Representative David Jolly told TBNWeekly, “This underwater exhibit will honor our nation's heroes, while helping sustain marine life in our precious gulf waters as an artificial reef. Its impact will be everlasting and our county and state are better for it.” Jolly’s nonprofit, Brighter Future Florida, is spearheading the campaign to complete the memorial.

“50 Ways Finer” Sales brochures proclaimed that the 1950 Ford Station Wagon was “50 Ways Finer.” The improvements from 1949 were minor, but given the popularity and success of that new model year, they could afford to be. The station wagon had many engineering refinements and minor styling changes in 1950, but it basically began where the previous year's wagon left off. This car was introduced and advertised as the Custom DeLuxe station wagon and it was a member of Ford's top-rung model range. Somewhere between introduction time and spring, advertisements began calling it; “The new Ford “Country Squire” station wagon”, though that name did not appear anywhere on the car. The decision to give the Ford station wagon a separate identity was not just a whim the company had…it accompanied an important change in the car. Up until then, station wagons had a fixed front seat, and middle and rear seats that had to be unbolted and removed when cargo space was necessary. This took time to accomplish and limited passenger capacity while the seats were out of the vehicle. It was the “Country Squire” that premiered a fold-down center seat arrangement. Ford engineers obtained the most possible floor space by designing a method of fully removing the third row seat without the use of tools. The middle row seat cushion was pivoted on its base and rotated forward before the seatback was lowered to fill the gap. (Ford claimed that the entire process took less than three minutes to complete.) When the seats were laid flat and the tailgate lowered. The cargo floor measured 109 inches long. Maximum width was 62.5 inches but the rear wheelhouses used up 18 inches around their location. The Country Squire was able to accommodate up to eight people, the same as before the new design. The “Country Squire” was available with a choice of a standard 226-cid inline six cylinder engine with 95 horsepower or an optional 100 horsepower V-8. Both choices were L-heads. The only transmission available was a three speed manual, but it could be ordered with an extra cost overdrive. Among the 50 improvements Ford claimed for the year were alterations that made the V-8 run quieter, a new torsional stabilizer for the front suspension, and upgraded steering linkage. Comparing the station wagon to the passenger car also showed that the rear springs had two additional leaves, rear-wheel track was wider, the brake-lining area was greater, a 19 gallon gasoline tank replaced the 16 gallon tank used in the sedans, final-drive ratios (3.92:1 standard, 4.27:1 with overdrive) were more aggressive, and wider 7.10x15 six-ply tires were used. Nine paint colors were available to choose from that brightened the exterior of the car, but little was done for the interior. Vinyl and tan leather were the same options as were available the year before. Prices actually were lower for the 1950 model year, dropping to a starting price of $2,107 with the V-8. Then, too, the price difference between the V-8 and six had been reduced, allowing the economically equipped “Country Squire” to promote a base price of $2028.00. A few changes allowed the company to keep the price down on their most expensive model, such as the tailgate-mounted spare tire that was left to face the elements as the painted metal cover used in 1949 was deleted. April 1950 brought in a cost saving production change. A painted stamped metal tailgate was utilized to replace the wooden unit. Also, the bright molding around the windshield was replaced by a plain rubber seal.

Ford had a good reason to cut costs. Like a springboard, demand for the all-steel four door wagon from Chevrolet far surpassed Ford by more than 7 to 1 for 1950. On top of it all, the six-cylinder Chevrolet DeLuxe Styleline wagon was listed at $1,994.00. Plymouth, too, was posing problems with its metal-bodied two-door Suburban, which debuted in 1949. A fancier Special version was added for 1950. Model year production of the Ford station wagon fell to 22,929 versus Plymouth sales of 34,457. Hammered by the increased sales of the Chevrolet and Plymouth competition, sales accounted for a mere 1.9 percent of Ford's sales. The demise of the true “Woody” had come. I am showcasing the 1950 Custom DeLuxe Ford Wagon belonging to Matt Whetstone of Brownsburg, Indiana this month. This is a spectacular example of a restored original Ford design. This particular wagon features a 239 cid Flathead V-8, 3 speed manual transmission, drum brakes front and rear, front coil and rear leaf springs, factory steel wheels and a sparkling green and wood exterior. The interior is all original and stunning. My photos do not do this vehicle justice. It truly catches your eye and attracts you to it like a magnet. A big “Thank You” goes to Matt for allowing me to spotlight his classic station wagon and share it with the readers.

Car Show Diva By: Jeanie Rupprecht Are you sure it wasn't Mae West who said "I never met a man I didn't like"? Okay, okay... so, it was Will Rogers! But what does it really mean? It carries a little more weight when you read the full quote, but first let me tell you a little about the man himself. Known durin' the first part of the 1900's as a vaudeville performer, radio pundit, stage and screen actor (50 silent and 21 talkies), humorist, newspaper columnist (over 4000 columns) and social commentator, Willian Penn Adair Rogers was born November 4, 1879 in Indian Territory, now known as Oklahoma. He was a Cherokee Nation citizen, born on his parents Dog Iron Ranch, on the Verdigris river, near what is now known as Oologah, up in the northeast corner of the state. So ya know, Oolagah is about 1.25 square miles, has a population of about 1200 (and a few dogs) and didn't come to be until Will Rogers was about 20 years old. But, Claremore, Oklahoma, roughly 14 miles south, population 18,000-20,000, was established when Will was about 5, and is widely recognized as 'The Home of Will Rogers'. Claremore is in Rogers County, Oklahoma, straddles Route 66 and is home to Rogers State University (RSU) and the Will Rogers Memorial Museum. (also home of singer Patti Page, but thats a whole other story)

Route and your next stop is my personal favorite... The Big Blue Whale! But guess what? You'll have to wait 'til next time, but I will leave you with a few more words that feel very profound! "Politicians can do more funny things naturally, than I can think of to do purposely." Will Rogers

I encourage you to take the time and visit the museum, you'll learn about Rogers childhood, his actin', his writin', his political aspirations, his love of flight and his death. Once you've made the rounds inside, step outside and enjoy the beautiful acreage that Rogers himself chose and purchased, in 1911, with intentions of it bein' where he and wife Betty would retire. In 1935, Rogers was killed in an aviation accident in Alaska, with fellow Oklahoman, Wiley Post. The museum sits atop a hill, across the street from the RSU campus and overlooks much of the city. Rogers, wife Betty and many other family members are interred there, including 3 of their 4 children, a daughter-in-law and one grandson. So, back to the quote.....

here it is, in full.

"When I die, my epitaph or whatever you call those signs on gravestones is going to read: "I joked about every prominent man of my time, but I never met a man I didn't like." I am so proud of that, I can hardly wait to die so it can be carved." Claremore has done a really nice job of re-purposing their old downtown area and there are retail boutiques, antiques and assorted eateries on Will Rogers Blvd and a beautiful bronze of Will sits on a park bench and overlooks it all! The another big draw in Claremore is the J.M Davis Arms and Historical Museum.... World's Largest Privately Owned Arms Collection, with over 12,000 firearms and thousands of artifacts ranging from Wild West saddles, spur, WW1 posters.... and much, much more. The collection is so overwhelming, it took me 2 trips to see it all. But it was so worth it and if you care one bit about militaria, this has to be a stop on your bucket list. And once you've done Claremore, head South-West on The

Omg.... The neighbors have been complaining that my dog has been barking non-stop. I hate the electric zapping bark collars, so I purchased a humane citronella collar. When a dog barks, it shoots a blast of citronella under their nose and apparently, they don't like it. This morning I was getting the collar ready and filled it with the citronella liquid. And that's where my morning should have ended. But no, it's me, and I begin to become curious as to “how the collars actually work. So, I'm standing by my back door "barking" at my dog's collar. Nothing happens. I make sure it's turned on, check the fill level, and go through the "getting started" check list one more time. Again, I bark. Nothing happens. Now I'm not quite sure, why I had this next thought, but I did...I put the collar on. I seriously extended the band and fit the growl box against my throat and barked. Apparently, the collar only works if it feels vibrations, because I immediately received a blast of citronella to the face. I began coughing, which only caused the collar to continue squirting bug spray over and over into my nasal cavity. I'm now on my hands and knees in my back yard, trying to breathe, and to make matters worse, the damn dog is barking. So, between coughing and yelling at him to shut up, I've emptied over a dozen blasts of citronella to my face. During all of this ruckus, I'm trying to undo the clasp of the collar, which has somehow managed to weld shut during this whole fiasco. I finally get the collar off and threw, yes, I threw that inhumane sucker across the yard, and lay in the grass sucking in the cool morning air. In the middle of thinking this is probably the dumbest thing I've done in a while, I hear laughter. MY NEIGHBOR SAW THE WHOLE THING! He was laughing so damn hard he couldn't breathe. Between gasps, he tells me, "I was gonna come help, but every time I started to climb over the fence, you'd set it off again and then I would start laughing and couldn't make it." So now, not only are my eyes red, but my face and ears are too. After checking to make sure I was ok, we parted ways and I went in to shower so I wouldn't smell like ode de' Tiki Torch. Lesson learned: next time (yes, there will always be a next time with me) make sure that: 1. Don't fill the collar before trying to set it off. 2. Remember your neighbor is not a good source of help in a comedy crisis situation. On the plus side, I won't have a mosquito problem for a few days!

Every car has a story. This month, the featured care was Buddy Merrick’s 1957 Nomad, “Nana’s Nomad.” “When someone builds a car, how often do they start off with what they really wanted to build? Jay and I are both Corvette guys, and a 57 Nomad is probably not what I would have started with, but I made a friend in Denison, Texas, six or seven years ago. Dan is a nice guy. When he was a kid, he would drive up and down the streets and he was the hottest thing in town. That would be early 80s. Well, in 1986, he took his motorcycle out for a ride and it wasn't a very successful ride. At the end of it he lost his leg. He was in the hospital for a long time and his body got riddled with infections. Honestly, since 86, and today he's been in and out of the hospital with those same infections. He finally got to the point where this car had sat in his one-car garage in Denison, Texas. It was covered up with grandma's blankets and furniture on the top and boxes, you know the scene, right? And Dan will not sell this car. This was going to be his retirement. Well, there's something about putting a car in the garage and covering with a blanket and burying it under boxes. You know that with anything you do that to deteriorates, right? So, a car that maybe he could have retired on one day, he wouldn't go retire on anymore. We sat in his kitchen table one day over a cup of coffee and he said, “I will sell you my car on one condition.” I say, “What's that?” “That you'll fix it up and put it on the road.” I thought it was an easy thing to say because the car was a pretty good condition come to think of it. I mean, the car sat in an enclosed garage for 32 years, I think. we went over there that day, which down. Narrow was one of them. We had five guys to get the car out of his garage and into an enclosed trailer and bring it home. Jeff Campbell, who's my motor guy, comes over to look at it. And I said, “Can you do anything with the 283?” “Oh, yeah, you can do a lot with the 283 these days. You know, we got pistons and rings and combinations. You can make the 283 really pop, if you want to.” I said, “Well, I'm thinking of keeping things all numbers matching because it was a numbers matching car.” “No, you don't want to do that. You want…a modern engine and a modern transmission. That's what you want.” He talked me into it and that's what we got. It's got an LS1 with 4L60 and it runs so beautifully. This morning, I got up went, out to the shop at 7:30, turned the key, and it started. I didn't have to miss with the with the pedals and the carburetor… And it started right up, so I'm thinking Jeff was right. I've had it on a lot of trips, and we got about 200 miles on the car now, believe it or not, brand new build. The front grille bar… I took the Chevrolet emblem out of it. I also took Chevrolet off the hood, because I thought if you look at the front end the 57…There's just so much stuff…it’s just a little too much, so I took that stuff off. And Tim Young, I had him build me that grill bar and also make the shroud because I don't like looking down into the street. You know, when you look at the radiator. Makes it a little harder to service, but…it's pretty. And then, of course, the bumper. This is a 57 bumper the only difference is in 1957 they came with rubber ends. One of the things that Chevrolet did 1957 was that they discovered anodizing and they anodized all of their emblems – the V on the hood, the Chevrolet that went across, the little louvers on here…But if I'm going to put them on, I can't have that gold anodized stuff, because that just looks awful. So, I found a place down in Dallas that does gold plating, don't tell my wife what I paid, but actually had them gold plate all the gold that's on the car, even in the seats. That's just a little touch. You get to the point where you say, “If I'm going to do it, I'm gonna try to do it right.” Well, I liked the Sierra Gold that they had back in 57, but Sierra Gold in 57 was two stage, right, and it was flat, and it was ugly. And you could not get… I don't think you could get a shine on Sierra Gold today. be on the channels. Maybe somebody out there can, but I couldn't. So, I wanted something else. I probably went through seven or eight books of paint chips. I found colors that were close, but I couldn't quite get it and I found one I thought was really good and would work. We went into the paint shop and it was supposed to be applied over dark gray…We did a one-foot square and it came out ugly as you can believe. So, I didn't want that. So, I said okay, we tried dark gray, light gray, silver and gold. Now, if you're as old as me, back in the day, we

24

SEPTEMBER 2019

had a thing called translucent paint. You remember that? Candies were all translucent paint, you put them over a gold under base, and if it was flake or metallic gold under base, that was even better, and that paint would pop. I thought the gold and the silver would do it, but it didn't. It just didn't. I said, “Put it over plain white…” When we did that, sunshine came out. In fact, that's the truth. We took that outside and we looked at it in the sunshine and we said we got the right color. So, we call the color Gold Tangerine Pearl because there's a lot of gold and a lot of pearl in it, but that's a madeup name. And it's made up paint. Fortunately, I kept I kept the formula so I can I can paint it again if I have to. The interior was built by Shawn Cook. We decided to go with buckets in the front of instead of the bench seat, because Carol and I are both tall people and we just felt like we will be comfortable in the long run in the bucket seat, so we did that…And we created the backseat to look like two buckets even though it's a bench. The seats are made from absolute scratch, I mean from a piece of metal. Shawn Cook actually made the seats first, then wrapped the foam over top of that and the rest of it you can see. The features of the interior primarily are that hand tooled leather. I wanted the car to have a Texas feel to…I wanted to feel like I was driving my little Texas car. So, that's why I wanted to go with the hand tooled leather. I had this idea and I called up several people before I found the right guy and found the right guy, Christian guy, in Celina who makes saddles. I said, “I want you to make a piece of leather put on the dashboard with 57 Chevy.” And he said, “What?” He had never done anything like that. He thought it was something goofy. So I made him a template and I brought it down. I've got pictures of him sitting at this little desk/workplace with this mallet and this chisel-looking thing, actually carving all of the detail in that leather. And it came out pretty good. The colors came out pretty-well too. And he was able to match the colors and could not be more happy than that. I guess one of the features in the car that I'm really liking these days, believe it or not, is the steering wheel. In 1957, Chevrolet had an 18-inch steering wheel...They had that because power steering in the 57 Chevy was an option. But it's not good for today. So, I found a replica 7 steering wheel that was 15-inches. Well, it was a very good replica, because it was just as skinny - just as funny feeling. I got big hands and they don't fit. And you realize that the car you drive today, you know your everyday car. It's got a big thick steering wheel…cause somebody realized, this is too small for people. I also didn't like the horn ring, because I never could get it to work real well. I bought a Flaming River aftermarket steering wheel, which I absolutely love. When I got the Flaming River wheel in, I had a problem. It didn't match the interior. I could get it in black, white, and tan. I got tan because I thought it was closest. So, I did a little search, and I found, believe it or not, there's a guy in Sherman (Brian)…who can actually dye leather. He came over to my shop one day. We worked for two or three hours, we matched it off the parts that we didn't want to get colored. And we actually colored the steering wheel extremely close to the color of the leather and I couldn't be more pleased. Anyway, I love my steering wheel. One detail thing that I'm proud of, and I love…is that exhaust flows through the bumper…As you can tell, the backup lights are right where you would think the exhaust should go. I didn't like that. I thought the exhaust ought to go where the exhaust ought to go. So, Tim Young and Gaylen Montgomery, he’s our local exhaust guy, he built the exhaust and he hooked it up to those inserts. And so, the exhaust now runs through the back bumper the way it ought. It’s been two years now since we started this. I'm very happy with the

car.A couple of weeks ago, there was a little, tiny gathering, some of you probably went over at Iron Root Distillery in Denison off I-75. And I called up Dan, you remember Dan, the one-legged guy and said, “We're going to a little car show and I think you ought to come with me.” It was a thrill. He came out with a cane and an aesthetic for his stump and he got in trouble and we drove down to Iron Root Distilleries. We parked the car there. The car got a bunch of people walking around it happens at car shows. And Dan sat in his chair and he got to answer questions. “Where’d this car come from?” “Who was the original owner of this car?” And Dan was able to say, “I was.” I was just thrilled his heart, two years later, to see that car that had sat for 32-years in his garage covered with grandma's blanket to be approved. Accepted, enjoyed, and truly running again. And that was the best car show I’ve gone to a long, long time. So, Dan, this is it. This is what we wound up with, but your 57 is running and driving and looking okay. And…pretty happy with it. …I'm 77 years old, I finally got to build a car and put every nut in there that I wanted and every bolt in the right place. Some of them I even polished and chromed and I'm a detail guy…But we tried to cross every T, dot every I and make the car as perfect as we can. It's a Denison car. It's a street car. I drive it. I'm going to drive it. And, Dan, I kept my promise. “

Gene Cromer. Have you ever heard the name? I bet you have but just in case you haven’t, let me take you on a little journey throughout a man’s life who has racing in his blood. Mr. Gene Cromer was never affiliated with a club and raced solo with his beautiful wife beside him, but he did need another set of hands (or a couple sets of hands) to build his By: Meadow Dean 1941 Willys. He first bought the car from Ed Skelton who bought the car from a used car dealership. So the Willys was already a running car, but even though it was already running, Mr. Cromer rebuilt his engine. Mr. Cromer was an engine specialist before his retirement. The output of the engine was a four hundred ninety-one cubic inch 427 Ford. There was a Hilborn injection carburetor added to the engine with a ford C6 automatic transmission. The brakes are drum brakes for the front and back. There is a straight axle with a header exhaust and the rear end is a 9 inch Ford with American mag wheels. The color of the car turned out to be Nassau blue and the race car was upheld by Gene Cromer. The body work was constructed by Gene Cromer, restored by Quain Stott and many other friends and family. The paint was done by Chris Harper, the pinstriping was completed by Charlie Tyre and interior by Dennis Glenn. Now that we know a little more about Mr. Cromer’s race car, lets dip into his life before and during his racing career. Before the year 1963 (when Mr. Cromer started his racing career) Mr. Cromer loved to ride and drive motorcycles until the crickets came out. His passion for racing cars and driving motorcycles aspired from the wheels and his fiery love for racing (and winning). A fun fact about when Mr. Cromer first began his racing career, he raced his FIRST race and won. His love for winning only grew bigger after that moment with all the flashes from cameras and cheers with excitement in little kids faces. Mr. Cromer raced all around the Southeast states like Alabama, Florida, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, and more. He raced for the money and the competition. A couple races he was in include the U.S. Open National Drag Race Championship, the Atlank 10,000 Funny car, and the AHRA competition at Rockingham, South Carolina. Mr. Cromer built four of his own cars throughout his life while still helping many other friends and people with their own cars and creations. His cars include: a 1955 Chevy, a 1966 Mustang, a 1972 Maverick, and his Willys. He loved racing and driving his cars, but one thing he loved most was putting a smile on kids faces. Right after school let out, there would be tons of children that rode their bike by and around Mr. Cromer’s house hoping to see one of his cars pop a wheelie on the back wheels. Now if that isn’t something great, I don’t know what it. When I first heard Mr. Cromer did that for the children I got ecstatic because that is just a very friendly and kind thing to do, put on a show for some kids. Now that is one thing they will never forget. Many papers and photos were established and put out into the world, to show off Mr. Cromer’s hard work and dedication. He has a lot of fans, some even created little car action figures and collectible items just to show off their appreciation for his love of racing. If you haven’t heard of Gene Cromer yet, you know a little bit more about him now. …… Meadow

that he would post a facebook video asking for our fans to like the post and if he could get at least 500 likes I would agree to let him race topless! He/Y’all won...over 750 likes! 6. Or maybe it’s simply because I suck at set-up and crew chief!!! Anyway, I think y'all got my point...I’m scrambling and panicking, but I have no idea what to do! So we did nothing, we are going to wait on the track to come to us! That didn’t work out too good for the heat race...We started last and finished last! It was hard to watch. To be fair though, this is a Championship race and there are ZERO slouches here, out of the 13 car field! So as tough as it is to race hard and finish last, sometimes that’s just how dirt track racing goes! (or ANY kind of racing!) We topped the car off with fuel, bolted on the feature race tires and said a little prayer! Chase was starting last, but he told me before he rolled away from the trailer that he wasn’t finishing there in this feature race! In 4 laps he had moved up 5 positions! Our car wasn’t great but Chase was up on that wheel doing work! When the checkered waved he crossed the line in 5th place! AWESOME JOB! Our car was straight and only needed a bath before racing again.

DIRT TRACK REVIVAL Welcome back everyone!!! Is it hot enough??? My goodness this heat is miserable! Well that hasn’t stopped us from doing what we love...RACING! Let’s jump into it...When I left off last month, we were preparing for our next visit to Whynot Motorsports Park for the State Championship race. We thought we had some things figured out, and were excited to try what we had learned! So, on 7-20-19, we set out headed North to one of our favorite tracks. We arrived with the car race ready, (on paper) but a quick glimpse of the track during hot laps put us straight to work! We changed the gear in the car before we even went out for our hotlap/qualifying session. One thing about dirt track racing...it’s a mind teaser! Just when you think you’ve got a track figured out...it’ll throw you for a loop. Honestly, that’s one of the many things I love about dirt track racing! Anyway, we were way off pace with the leaders! I had 10,000 things running through my mind that could be the culprit of our not so impressive qualifying run!...Let me back up right here to explain a few scenarios that were flying through my brain at this moment…MAYBE WE SUCK TONIGHT BECAUSE... 1. Chase is sick... I’m being serious, I had to take him to the doctor Friday (The day before this race) because he had a severe sinus infection, coughing, sore throat, congestion, etc…He looked and sounded terrible! He refused to sit this race out tho! 2. Our set-up!!! I had made a couple of very minor adjustments in the shop...but was it costing us a half second or more on the track? 3. The gear!! Maybe I was too quick to pull out the gear that we came to the track ready to run! It might have been exactly what we needed! Who knows?!!! 4. GIRLFRIEND on the brain??? No, not me y'all! Bahahaha!!! I’m very happily married! I’m talking about Chase!!! He’s a good looking teenager and he has a girlfriend!...She is great, but...It baffles me how many texts they can send one another in a day! He kept his head in his phone texting all the way to Whynot (3hrs) only looking up for the 10 minutes that he ripped through the cabinets of the motorhome like a crackhead searching for their next rock!!! His battery was about to die and he went into full blown panic mode searching for a phone charger!!!...If I didn’t take his phone when we got to the track, I swear I believe they would text each other during the races! IT’S RIDICULOUS!!!!... 5. What if it’s the missing roof on the car? You know, maybe the aerodynamics are messed up! For this race we had the option of running topless! I didn't want to, but Chase did. We made a deal

SEPTEMBER 2019

Coming through the field at Whynot in the feature! Next race, 7-27-19 at Deep South Speedway “The home of the high-banks” in Loxley, Alabama. This would be a 2 night race, (Friday and Saturday) but we could only make it for the Saturday night event. This would have us running a B-main for a starting position in the A-main event Saturday night. We were running 3rd in the B-main. On a restart, Chase had a strong run on the inside of the leader going into turn 1. When the leader realized Chase was there, he darted down and cut us off making contact with our right front tire and knocking out the toe-in. This incident sent Chase into a spin and brought out the caution which was charged to Chase as he was sent to the rear of the field. He raced his way back to 3rd at the checkered putting us into the A-main event. The driver who cut Chase off came to our trailer and apologized to Chase personally. He said he DID intentionally cut him off, but he didn't realize Chase had such a strong run until it was too late! No worries...just glad he owned up to it. We fixed the front end and got ready for the 30 lap $2,000 to win Summer Shootout Feature event! What’s our strategy you ask??? SURVIVE!!! We had a signal predetermined that I would give Chase when it was time to GO! The plan was to ride and stay out of trouble until it was time to see if we had what we needed to win this thing! Chase did great just holding his position and riding! When a caution came out around the halfway point, I gave him the signal through the fence that it was time to go! When they went back green Chase went to work in the pack. He advanced a couple of positions and was looking to gain more when they bottlenecked in front of him due to a lapped car. The lapped car got swirly and before Chase could blink an eye BAM we had front end damage! The caution came out and I couldn't see anything wrong with Chase’s car other than the extremely toed out front end! Cars began dropping like flies under this caution mostly due to overheating issues! When they went back green we were in 8th position and as Chase dove into turn 1 it was obvious he now had a flat right front tire! He made his way off the track without bringing

www.GulfCoastMotorSports.com

out a caution and as he pulled in the pits I knew our night was over! I met him right off the track, confirmed his tire was indeed flat, and pointed him towards our trailer as I could hear the cars still green flag racing on the track! It was at that moment, as Chase was limping towards our pit area that I heard the announcer say “CAUTION ON THE SPEEDWAY!!!”....I took off running! Not very fast...but as wide open as I could hollering towards our pit “CHANGE HIS TIRE!!! GET HIM BACK OUT THERE!!!!” We got it changed and got him back on the track just 2 laps down! There were only 8 cars left on the track and several were lapped by us earlier in the race and/or had left the track and came back due to overheating! We might still be in this thing! NEVER GIVE UP!!! So we go under the checkered flag under our own power and get scored with a 4th place finish! That’s right! 2 laps down and still finished 4th! We brought home $600 in winnings!!! That’s a great night indeed!

Our pit crew...Little sister, Avery Lynn!

We survived the 30 lap feature at Deep South Speedway! And it was worth it!!! Next race 8-2-19 Hattiesburg...Rain out! Next race 8-9-19 Hattiesburg...It was great to see and hear all our fans back at our hometrack! It’s been a minute since we raced there! Chase won his heat race and would be starting 2nd in the 14 car field of modifieds for the feature event. While running 2nd in the feature Chase hooked a hole which tossed the car out of shape and costs him a couple positions. Our car started acting erratic and inconsistent. Chase tried to get back on pace but then he took a shot to the left front tire which sent him back even deeper into the field! DANG!!! Before we knew it we were battling for 7th and 8th positions! Chase raced hard and got his momentum going again and came across the checkered in 4th place! Not a bad night.

appeared to fade away and lose its forward drive! We ended up 2nd at the line. Chase wasn’t thrilled, but overall, it had been a great weekend for the Young Gun racking up 2 heat wins and a 4th and 2nd place finish in the features. AWESOME!!! We celebrated Chase’s 16th birthday that following Monday! I can’t even begin to put into words how proud I am of the way Chase handles himself, on and off the track! Chase LOVES his fans and sponsors! He is always thinking of ways to get them more involved! We will be trying some new videos soon that will give our supporters a little inside view of our weekly lives as we prepare to go racing weekly! If you don’t follow us already on facebook you should check it out for the latest updates and schedules! You can find us on Facebook @ Chase1motorsports Chase Holland Racing. One more thing before I sign off this month...Chase has been telling me for months that something wasn’t right with his car and I’ve been pushing him to just run it harder. I’ve blamed him for the cars erratic behavior...well after mysteriously falling off the pace 2 nights in a row, I finally decided to let Noah go through our shocks to be sure we didn’t have issues there. Noah found a couple things wrong which makes everything make more sense now! The things he found where pretty serious! I’ve expressed to Chase my apologies and I’m really looking forward to seeing how he does now that the car is fixed! Y’all stay tuned to find out! Thanks again to all you sponsors, readers, and fans! We are having a great time doing what we love and we couldn’t do it without you all! Until next time...Chavus

Leading the heat race at Hattiesburg! Next race 8-10-19 Deep South Speedway in Loxley, Alabama Since Chase would be turning 16 years old on the following Monday (August 12), he had requested that he wanted to pull a double header and race Friday and Saturday night as an early birthday present. We agreed to it, so we got up early Saturday morning and went to work! We had plenty of repairs to make as well a weeks worth of cleaning and maintenance to get done in just hours! We had all hands on deck including our team mates, the Luzenbergs! We got it ready just in time to hit the road. With the threat of rain in the forecast the car count was low at Deep South. The track owner still guaranteed the full purse even though we only had 4 cars in our class! That is impressive, as most tracks cut the purse with anything less than 8 cars registered. We won the heat race and it looked like we had the car to beat all night! We were leading the feature for several laps before our car
