By: Jimbo I went to Red Creek Classics 5th annual antique car appreciation picnic at Flint Creek Water Park. What a great venue for a car show and cruise-in. There was lot’s of shady parking spots along the lake and surrounding the air conditioning building. And true southern hospitality extended by the members of Red Creek Classics car club. Three hundred fifty cars–n-trucks showed up, some from as far away as Texas, to attend this years event. A treasure hunt took place Friday sending participants to a verity of local businesses and the day ended with a large cruise-in at Wendy’s. Saturday morning there was a steady stream of cars & trucks pulling into Flint Creek Water Park. There was plenty of shady parking spots near the building where the free picnic lunch was being served and the temperature outside was unusually pleasant for the 1st of August. People set up EZ-ups or circled their chairs then wondered about visiting. A truly relaxing event for everyone.. well almost everyone.. The Red Creek Classics volunteers (there were yellow shirts everywhere) did a great job of making sure everything ran smoothly. Besides the five-hundred hamburgers and hundreds of hot-dogs served there were lot’s of homemade side dishes, and plenty of the cakes & cookies I like. (the food was amazing) The NSRA held their Mississippi Appreciation day during the event and “Chicken” Willie Smith (MS state rep) celebrated his birthday during the event. (more cake) If you didn’t make it this year, look forward to the last week-end of July 2016 that’s when the Red Creek Classics will have the 6th annual antique car appreciation picnic at Flint Creek Water Park. July 29-30, 2016 a two day event at Flint Creek Water Park, Wiggins, MS. If you want to rent a cabin or camping spot you may want to do it soon. 601 928-3051 or 601 928-2753. Now it’s September already.. lot’s events going on for the next few months. As of Sept. 1st there are only seventeen Fridays till Christmas. And there are car shows, cruise-in’s, special events and parties to go too. Life is good… Here is some e-mail…. Jimbo, Presently, I am trying to make friends outside of Facebook while applying the same principles. Therefore, every day I go down on the street and tell the passers-by what I have eaten, how I feel, what I have done the night before and what I will do tomorrow night. Then I give them pictures of my family, my dog and me gardening and spending time in my pool. I also listen to their conversations and I tell them I love them. And it works. I already have 3 persons following me: 2 police officers and a psychiatrist.

We all love to spend money buying new clothes but we never realize that the best moments in life are enjoyed without clothes. 2. Having a cold drink on hot day with a few friends is nice, but having a

hot friend on a cold night after a few drinks - PRICELESS. 3. Arguing over a girl's bust size is like choosing between Budweiser, Miller, Guinness and Heinekens. Men may state their preferences, but will grab whatever is available. And….. 4. I haven't verified this but it sounds legit. A recent study found that women who carry a little extra weight live longer than the men who mention it. J Clark Jimbo My friend Tom finally decided to tie the knot with his longtime girlfriend. I went over to his garage one evening after they got back from the honeymoon. He was cleaning one of his hot rods for an upcoming show. His wife was standing there at the bench watching him. After a long period of silence she finally speaks. "Honey, I've just been thinking, now that we are married maybe it's time you quit spending all your time out here in the garage and you probably should just consider selling all your cars along with your gun collection. Tom gets this horrified look on his face. She says, "Darling, what's wrong?" "There for a minute you were starting to sound like my ex-wife." "Ex wife!”, she screams, "YOU NEVER TOLD ME YOU WERE MARRIED BEFORE!!!!!!!" Tom's reply: "I wasn't.........." customerservice@ Jimbo, I am looking forward to hunting season, but I do have a question. If I shoot a buck, but I only have a doe tag, can I claim that the buck wasn't really a buck? I mean, maybe he'd always wanted to be a doe, but with no choice of his own, he was born with the physical attributes of a male. Yet on the inside he'd always known he was truly female. I'm just wondering if the game wardens will buy it. Our society and the Supreme Court does! colwyn@
Today I was in Biloxi and killing a little time before my next appointment, so Sharon and I went to this little deli that she knew about . The place is called Rena's Deli and has been around for 25 years. It is known by the locals downtown and that is about all. They are open Monday thru Friday from 11 am to 2 pm only. They serve sandwiches, small and large po-boys. The sandwiches and small po-boys run in price of $4.25 up to $7.25. The large po-boys run from $5.25 up to 8.95. All po-boys are dressed and pressed. You can get the good ole BLT or a grilled Cheese (you can choose from 4 different cheeses). Drinks are can, except for tea and you serve yourself. Now the ice is in an ice chest next to the tea on the floor. The good part is the daily specials the Rena has. On Monday she has spaghetti and meat sauce, Tuesday is red beans & rice w/sausage, Wednesday is large roast beef po-boy, Thursday is large turkey po-boy, and Friday is a large BBQ beef po-boy. All of these are priced at $6.50. There are chips and a small potato salad to go along with the po-boys. They have salads served on a lettuce bed, tuna, chicken, egg, chef and a side salads. I had the red beans and rice today. They put it in a carry out container that measures 8x8x2 and it is full. I bought some home because it was more than I could eat with bread that came with it. Rena's is on the corner of Water and Lameuse Street about half way down the block. Their phone number is 432-1904 for carry outs.
Jimbo, An attorney arrived home late, after a very tough day trying to get a stay of execution. His last minute plea for clemency to the governor had failed and he was feeling worn out and depressed. As soon as he walked through the door at home, his wife started on him about, 'What time of night to be getting home is this? Where have you been? Dinner is cold and I'm not reheating it'. And on and on and on. Too shattered to play his usual role in this familiar ritual, he poured himself a shot of whiskey and headed off for a long hot soak in the bathtub, pursued by the predictable sarcastic remarks as he dragged himself up the stairs. While he was in the bath, the phone rang. The wife answered and was told that her husband's client, James Wright, had been granted a stay of execution after all. Wright would not be hanged tonight. Finally realizing what a terrible day he must have had, she decided to go upstairs and give him the good news. As she opened the bathroom door, she was greeted by the sight of her husband, bent over naked, drying his legs and feet. “They're not hanging Wright tonight,” she said. He whirled around and screamed, “FOR THE LOVE OF GOD WOMAN, DON'T YOU EVER STOP?!” support@ Jimbo, This one may bring a little tear to your eyes . . . Only a golfer would understand this story of a GOLFER AT THE DENTIST. A man and his wife walked into a dentist's office. The man said to the dentist, "Doc, I'm in one heck of a hurry I have two buddies sitting out in my car waiting for us to go play golf, so forget about the anesthetic, I don't have time for the gums to get numb. I just want you to pull the tooth, and be done with it! We have a 10:00 AM tee time at the best golf course in town and it's 9:30 already... I don't have time to wait for the anesthetic to work!' The dentist thought to himself, "My goodness, this is surely a very brave man asking to have his tooth pulled without using anything to kill the pain." So the dentist asks him, "Which tooth is it sir?" The man turned to his wife and said, "Open your mouth Honey, and show him . .

Gerald Douglas Huff, an East Carbon custom car artist known internationally as Bo, died Tuesday of cancer at his home in the Dragerton neighborhood. He was 72. For his artistry, Huff was inducted into the National Rod & Custom and the Kustom Kemps of America halls of fame and is the subject of a nearly completed documentary. "It was hard to keep up with him," says filmmaker Monique Hunt, who had been interviewing friends and family and filming Huff at car shows for nearly two years. "He was go-go-go all day long." Huff was born in Clarksville, Ark., the son of Junior Gervis and Corene Crossno Huff, and moved with his family to Utah in 1951 for his father to work in the coal mines. He built his first custom car as a teenager, when he began to perfect his style as a pinstriper, and continued his obsession with car art throughout his life, says daughter Maggy Huff, one of seven children born to his four wives. He liked to say his children "were born in different litters," Maggy Huff says. "He would completely change the look of the car," Maggy Huff says. "He would take a stock car and he would change it to something you would never expect." Huff attended body and fender school in Denver in the 1960s and operated custom paint shops in Arkansas and Southern California, where for a time in the 1970s he lived in a hippie Christian commune, The Brotherhood of the Sun. Later he returned to cars and Utah, where he was briefly employed at the same coal mine where his father had worked. He again opened a car shop in Sunnyside, which his son, Junior, continues to operate. "My brothers have all worked for him at some point," Maggy Huff says. Huff's painting style was known for its elegance, and he became one of the world's best pinstripers, but he remained committed to making his cars as affordable as possible. He was noted for his cobwebbing and metal flake techniques, as well as his scallops, flames and blending work. Sometimes he would create cars that featured all of those techniques in different sections of the body, and he liked to use a lot of vibrant candycolored and pearl-based paints. He earned the attention of national car magazines in the 1980s, and his reputation gained international prominence in the 1990s, his daughter says. Beyond his own car work, he loved supporting younger artists and introducing them to the industry insiders at car shows. In addition, throughout his life he remained passionate for rockabilly music and dancing, inspired by the early songs and style of Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash and Hank Williams, his daughter says. He was also known for his generosity. "We constantly had people staying with us, people who needed to get away or people who were going through a rough time," Maggy Huff remembers. "He loved his children, he loved the Lord, and he was a good man." ellenf@sltrib.com facebook.com/ellen.weist

If the street rod does not meet a certain set of guidelines, an accident can cause more than just replacing the parts. The NSRA or National Street Rod Association is the organization doing the safety inspections. Keep in mind that these safety inspections are completely voluntary. In most cases, safety inspections can be done at many of the street rod shows around the country. Generally, when a safety inspection is done, it is good for one year. http://www.streetrod101.com/safety-inspection.html

September Old Town Spring, TX 32nd Annual Longhorn Rod Run features classic cars in a historical setting. Vintage car lovers can step back in time walking the streets talking to the antique car owners and getting a chance to peak underneath the hoods. Various categories for prizes and awards are given to owners of the hot rods that line the shady shop lined streets. This truly is a local favorite.
American Classics Restoration, LLC is a family-owned business with over 35 years of experience. We specialize in classic & antique automobiles, hot rods and motorcycle restoration. As a young boy, at the age of 13, I was introduced to classic automobiles through my father. He had a shop and worked on cars himself and, of course, I got to hang out. This progressed into my teenage years and soon I found myself wanting to work on cars all the time. Then I began to paint, and I was a natural. Fast forward to the 21st century and I still have the passion for these older relics that need so much care and attention to shine again like when they were new. One of the first cars I had was a 1964 Mercury Comet that my father and I built, painted, and reupholstered. I have done many cars over the years and it’s hard to pick a favorite, but I am partial to the Camaro and Mustang along with the older, rarer type vehicles that you just don’t see a lot of. We also can restore items such as antique Coke vending machines, ice chests, old refrigerators, as well as custom paint guitars, drums, or any item that may have some sentimental value. I have over 10 years in design engineering, and I love to fabricate anything out of sheet metal and iron. One of my most favorite things to do is to watch a customer’s face light up when they see their pride and joy gleaming in the sun like it was the first time they met; that is what drives me to do the type of work I do and have been doing so now for over 35 years. I still love every job, and I enjoy meeting all the people who share this same passion for classics that I do. From award winning classic automobiles to a precious heirloom handed down by your grandparents, American Classics Restoration has you covered. -Tim Gore CEO/Owner Testimonials "Tim is absolutely the Best! I have had several vehicles that he has worked on for me through the years and his work has always been top notch. Body, Paint, you name it he can do it! What I like the most is that there is no question that when he does a job that it will be done right and he always tries to make sure that it will be at an affordable price. There are no hidden cost. He is always right up front with what is being done to the vehicle and what the price will be. So if you’re looking for the best, at an affordable price look no further you have found the right man for the job!!! Just a side note Tim will also be doing some work on my Classic Mustang and I know that when finished it will look like it did when it rolled off the show room floor in 1965. That is how confident I am in this man’s work!" - Alan H. Lucedale, MS "Thank you Timothy for the beautiful paint job you put on my 1965 Mustang. You did an outstanding job and I am thrilled with the results. Your attention to detail is second to none and you are truly a Master at your craft! I have already entered it in numerous shows and have taken Best in Class awards, Best in Show awards and Best Paint in many of them! I've received many compliments on the paint job and have referred all of them to you. Again, I thank you for the time and effort you put into my car. You certainly posses a passion for what you do! Look forward to bringing my next project to you. See you soon!" - Lori H. Metairie, LA "Bad things happen to good cars. A bad thing happened to my 1971 Chevelle convertible's drivers side panel. Yes, it was bad!! I took it to Tim Gore and he worked his magic on it. Not only did he repair the damage and make it look like new again, but he also found other issues that he fixed, as well. This guy knows exactly what he is doing. PERFECT color match, saved me money on parts, and did all of this at a reasonable price. Simplify your repairs or restoration project. Go to Tim Gore -- the one-stop shop." Janet K. Gautier, MS "I would like to express how pleased I am with the quality of the paint work that was done on my 2006 HD Sportster. The end result was exactly what I asked for: custom and cool, but in no way “girly”. It's so refreshing to experience the integrity, honesty, and attention to detailed workmanship that your company shows. I highly recommend American Classics Restoration. Thanks Tim and April!" Laura H. Ocean Springs, MS "I was remodeling my Honda CMX250c into a stylized bobber. I was real proud of the work and needed a custom paint job to match the classic design. While the modifications made the bike run like a scalded dog; it needed to look the part as well. American Classic Restorations not only gave me a good price and quality work but helped me pick out styling that complemented the overall feel of the bike. I could not be more pleased and would recommend them to anyone looking for good people who do quality work." Glenn David S. Biloxi, MS

BOOMERS BOOM ON By: Tony Carter Your 70th birthday is just around the corner. You get out of bed and check your body parts to see if they still function properly. So far so good. You get the morning paper (yes they still print them) and the first thing you check is to see if your name is in the obituaries. If not, you may have a good day. Yes, you are officially a ‘senior citizen’. A lot of us don’t have computers, smart phones, apps (not sure what that is), E-mail or texting. And don’t really want them. Snail mail is just fine. My typewriter broke 40 years ago, but I’ll get it fixed someday. During the Eisenhower - Kennedy - Johnson-Nixion years not all of us graduated from high school or went to collage. We served our country in the military with pride, got married and raised our children. Back in the day you could adjust a carburetor on your ‘56 Buick or change piston rings, or put in a new set of spark plugs. You would rev your engine and get a satisfied feeling in that roar. American muscle cars ruled! Chick dug them. Parents hated them. Gas was 37¢ for regular and 41¢ for ‘Ethel” and it was leaded - no Ethanol ! Then came the middle east oil embargo - long lines at gas stations, rationing and skyrocketing prices (no more free gifts with fill-up). Then ‘auto downsizing. This was an obscenity to the muscle and luxury car guy. 6 then 4 cylinders were all you got. It got worse. The invasion of ‘rice-burners’. God help us all ! We turned into Europe. (what’s a liter ?) Detroit fell apart like my first marriage. They tried to ‘catch up’ Mustang ll, Pinto’s, Maverick’s, Monza’s, Pacer’s and Dart’s replaced 440’s, 409’s & 428’s and 4 barrel carburetors'. The tires looked as if they were taken from a riding lawn mower. Those cool convertibles gone. Then came FM radio, 8 tracks & cassette players. AM top 40 hits were now ‘oldies’. I could see the end of the world was closing in on us. But Americans are a resilient bunch and most of us survived. Our kids grew up and now we deal with rugrats (grandkids). Toyo-yo’s, Honda’s and Mitch-a-bitchi’s are everywhere. Wait what's that sound??? It sounds like - no it can’t be - yes it’s a badass 500 h.p. Shelby Mustang going by. Wow, Detroit is back! I better check the obituaries again. Maybe I’m in heaven!!!
This is my ‘Mustang Row’ in New Orleans. A 2014 Saleen, a 2009 Roush 427R, a restored 1973 351 Cleveland convertible and a 1967 ‘A’ code restored convertible. I drive and show them with pride. I’m looking for a ‘68 Shelby 350 or 500 convertible and a top 40 radio station on AM. Call me — no E-mail Tony

Reverend Boudreaux was the part time pastor of the local Cajun Baptist Church and Pastor Thibodaux was the minister of the Covenant Church across the road. They were both standing by the road, pounding a sign into the ground, that read: “Da End is Near Turn Yo Sef ‘Roun Now Afore It Be Too Late” As a car sped past them, the driver leaned out his window and yelled, “You religious nuts!” From the curve they heard screeching tires, and a big splash…. Boudreaux turns to Thibodaux and asks, “Do ya tink maybe da sign should jussay….. ”Bridge Out?” Boudreaux calls into work and says, “hey boss, I ain’t coming’ ta work taday, I really sick. When I feel sick like you do, I go to my wife and ask her for sex. That makes everything better and I go to work. You try that!” Two hours latter Boudreaux calls again. “Boss, I do what you say and feel real good... I be at work soon…… boss you got nice house!!” "Marie," Boudreaux whispered to his wife late dat night, "if I died, would you get married again?" "Mais, yeh, I guess," she replied. "Would you sleep in de same bed with him?" "Well, it's de only bed in de house, so I guess I'd have to." "Would you make love to him?" "Cher," Marie said patiently, "I guess, since he'd be my husband." "Would you give him my pickum-up truck?" "No, Boudreaux. I wouldn't never give him your pickum-up truck." she yawned, "Besides, he don't know how to drive a stick shift."
The Locomobile Story by Dr. Bill Long from Gallman, Mississippi In 1912, my grandfather began subscribing to National Geographic magazine and collected these magazines for many years. As a child, I would enjoy looking through these magazines. Already a car lover, I liked to view the many automobile ads in the magazine. I fell in love with the Locomobile an outstanding car displayed on a double-page advertisement with a tiny lady standing on its running board. As I grew older, I realized why she appeared so tiny the 20-foot-long, 4-ton Locomobile completely dwarfed her! But so began my love affair with the Locomobile this fascinating car rich in history and built with only the very finest materials. In 2001, I received a phone call from a lady, Lu Harding, whom I did not remember but who knew me and my wife and who invited us to dinner with her and her husband. At the restaurant she reminded me that her son had been my patient, and they credited me with saving his life. When our conversation turned to automobiles, I learned the Hardings owned a number of vehicles including one car a 1924 Locomobile Formal Town Car. This vehicle had been custom built for a steel magnate in Pittsburg, PA. Upon his death, the car was inherited by the man’s nephew, who eventually drove the car to Pascagoula, MS, where he worked in the ship building industry. The car remained there for the next 40 years until the Hardings purchased it. For years the Hardings stored it in the basement (which had to be enlarged) of their home in the Belhaven area of Jackson, MS. I couldn’t believe it! It was my lifelong ambition to see an actual Locomobile! But it was not to be. I asked if I might see the Locomobile but Mr. Harding refused because of its poor condition. But three months later, Mr. Harding died. I desperately tried to contact Lu but could not find her, as she had retired, had an unlisted phone number, and had no forwarding address. I thought I would never see a Locomobile. A few months later I casually mentioned this story to a friend at a car show at Amelia Island. The next day he located the Locomobile through a surprising set of circumstances and discovered the car was for sale! At that time, there were already two bids for the purchase of the car. I contacted the Locomobile Society about what a possible bid for the car might be, but, never having seen it, I didn’t know its condition. I did submit the third and winning bid of $30,000 for the Locomobile sight unseen. The next highest bid was $29,900. My wife later said it was “ordained” for me to own this Locomobile! The mechanical work on this rare Locomobile was done by my friend Robert Howard. Robert is a living legend around Copiah County, Mississippi, having done very specialized restoration work on many, many classic cars over many years. When I called Robert to ask him to work on the Locomoible he reminded me that he was retired. I ask him to just have a look at it and he agreed. When he saw it he turned to me and said, "My retirement is over!" He has it running good. Robert has been my lifelong friend. At 85, he is some older than me: about 4 months! The Locomobile is mechanically sound, cranks, drives, runs and stops adequately. The car needs the interior completely restored; the exterior needs painting and very minimal body work. While having already invested about $47,000 in it, I have not had the car repaired due to the cost of fully restoring it to its original uniqueness. Hendrick Motorsports is officially back for the 2015 Scarecrow Cruise & Car Show! Just like last year, we will have 2 race cars, 4 vehicles from the Rick Hendrick collection, plus the Hendrick Motorsports transporter. Get ready for another great year at the Scarecrow Cruise & Car Show!! October 16-17 Madison, MS
Wanted New/unused ball caps, huggies, key chains plastic cups, balls, t‐shirts, etc ‐ all of those things you get from car shows in the goodie bags but really don't need. There is a charity, Samaritan's Purse, run by Franklin Graham (son of Billy Graham) and one of their missions is Operation Christmas Child. People pack a shoe box with age appropriate items that are then shipped all over the world. Danny and I have a great time each year gathering toys/etc. to pack as many as we can. One of the age groups is 11‐14 year old boys and they are the group that receives the fewest boxes so we want to make that a priority this year. Candy’s Beauty Tricks & Travel Tips
As a pinup model, makeup is an essential part of appearances and photo shoots, which also usually involve some traveling. Fortunately, in recent years I have been doing much more of both and I feel that I have become rather good at it. I have established a type of routine for organizing my makeup, clothing and accessories the makes belongings easy to find, damage free and prearranged so that you can spend less time looking for your personal effects and more time enjoying your travels. I thought a few of my beauty tricks and travel tips might be helpful for you too! The most universally beneficial product you can have in your cabinet is coconut oil. You can use it for almost anything; for beauty needs plus you can eat it or use it for cooking oil. You can use it as a makeup remover by simply putting some on a cotton ball and using it to remove your day's makeup. It will even remove waterproof eyeliner. You can use it as lotion to moisturize your skin by simply applying it by itself or add it to a 1/2 cup of sugar or salt as a hydrating exfoliator. You can apply coconut oil to your lips as a lip balm. It is ideal for hair conditioning. It helps with split ends and dried out locks. You can use it in the shower simply as a replacement for your usual hair conditioner or for a deep condition before your shower. To use it as a deep conditioning treatment, apply it to your dry hair and leave it on for at least 1 hour beforehand, then take your shower and wash your hair as usual. Be cautious that when washing the coconut oil out of your hair, it will leave the bottom of the shower extra slippery. By the time you exit the shower though, your feet will feel exceptionally soft and moisturized from the coconut water that has collected around your feet while you showered. There are a number of home beauty remedies that I have yet to try. One remedy that I have regrettably tried is mayonnaise. The high fat in regular mayonnaise is said to be ideal for adding moisture and shine if left on hair for one hour. Unfortunately it will quickly begin melting off of your head and after an hour, the smell is not a pleasant one. I do not suggest trying this one! You can even use coconut oil in place of hairspray on dry hair by applying a tiny amount on troublesome spots to tame frizz. Just be careful not to use too much or it will leave your hair looking greasy. It even helps make nails healthy and stronger. Massage a dab on the cuticle, right at the base of the nail. It simulates growth and gets rid of peeling skin. And you needn’t worry guys;

coconut oil can be a useful product to keep in your medicine cabinet as well. Because of its antifungal properties, it kills the germs that cause unpleasant smells. This is ideal for using in beards and dreads to keep them clean and free of odor. Keep mustache and beard hairs in place by using coconut oil as a moisturizer before combing your facial hair. It is even ideal to degrease hands (the perfect helper for the car enthusiasts that read this magazine). If your hands are covered in grease or motor oil, use coconut oil first to dissolve the grease so you can clean your hands. Coconut oil can be a bit costly at the grocery store so I suggest buying a big container of it at somewhere like Sam’s Club or Costco. You will get much more for your money because fortunately with coconut oil, a little goes a long way. Plus they sell it with or without the natural coconut scent. Fortunately, I travel often for photo shoots. When packing for either, there is always a lot to pack; lots of hair accessories, makeup and shoes. Things are faster and easier to find if they are well organized. I use some helpful products that can give optimal organization. A few years ago I received these labeled, cloth travel bags as a gift and they are one of the best assets for traveling. I have about 10 now; two for lingerie items, a bunch for shoes, one generic and two for laundry to wash when I return home. Since they are cloth they can be reused. Once you arrive home, you can simply empty the bag’s
www.GulfCoastMotorSports.com www.GulfCoastMotorSports.com
contents into the laundry and throw the bags in the wash right along with your clothes. The bags are labeled so you will not get mixed up as to which bag is which. Plus you can find them quickly when you are on the go. The bags can keep shiny shoes scuff free. They also work great when you have something that is made of an easily damaged fabric, such as a sheer nylon or silky material that can easily snag. Simply place the more delicate items in the separate bag to ensure that nothing else in your luggage ruins that particular article of clothing. Every girl has their vice.
Accessories, including purses, jewelry and hair accessories are the thing that I probably spend the most money on. However, hair accessories, like pinup hair pieces, fascinators and large rhinestone adorned flowers, can get smooshed and ruined in transit. I have found that using a lidded Tupperware helps to prevent any damage to these types of hair accessories. Sometimes traveling with jewelry can be such a hassle; you have 1 earring, but the mate is missing or everything that you packed separate became shuffled and mixed up during the shuffle of traveling. Necklaces can get so tangled that you cannot even tell where the merger began. The solution for this I learned from a friend of mine who was a beauty pageant queen; use a tackle, utility or craft box as your jewelry organizer. It is ideal for many reasons. You can choose the size of box you purchase based on how much you have. You can buy one for less than $10 at WalMart. The hard exterior prevents damage to these fragile items. These boxes have removable dividers so you can constantly change the sizes of the inside pockets depending on what jewelry you have. The lid locks when you close it so everything will stay put just the way you packed it. It is definitely a worthwhile investment for traveling. Another super travel accessory is the eyelash case (pictured below). The individual plastic eyelash cases that you purchase lashes in are oddly shaped and take up valuable suitcase space, which I would rather leave available for travel shopping! Plus they can get bent or broken easily. Dissimilarly, the bow case has curved spots to hold 3 different sets, but it can hold more. It has an additional space at the top for a small tube of lash adhesive. This is ideal if you are traveling with a few sets of false eyelashes. You can purchase a case for just a few dollars on eBay.
My fair skin is extremely sensitive so I cannot use just any sunscreen or moisturizer. Even the mildest facial peel leaves my skin unbearably irritated for days. If you or your children have sensitive skin, I recommend Lanc么me sunscreen. It costs more than your generic sunscreen, yet nonetheless it will protect your skin without irritating it. My newest beauty cabinet favorite is Elizabeth Arden's 2 Step Ceramide. It is a 5-minute facial in a box. The claim is legitimate as it will literally leave your face feeling like you just received a European facial. The first step is a self-foaming cleansing mask that dissolves skin clogging impurities. Once applied, you leave it on for about 2 minutes while the foam cleanses. It feels like cleansing champagne bubbles on your face. The second step is a replenishing cream that firms and smoothes skin, leaving it feeling ultra refreshed. It should be used only 12 times a week. You will love the results.
I purchase many different brands of lashes. I use the regular ones you find at your local Target, Walmart, CVS or Walgreens type stores. I too love all the unique ones that the stores sell at Halloween time so I use the opportunity to stock up. A great online eyelash seller is House of Lashes. They have a beautiful and affordable array of eyelashes.
I hope you found some of my tips and tricks useful. For healthy skin and all natural remedies, be sure to add these beauty products to your regular routine. I am always up for trying new products for gorgeousness so I will be back with more informative and glamorous advice. And if you are preparing for a summer getaway, purchasing a few of these organizational products can assist in a less stressful retreat. Happy travels!

Trunk Tales for August focused on the Mascot collection at the Gilmore Car Museum in Hickory Corners, Michigan and I wanted to continue along with another article about this marvelous attraction. The Shell gas station, located at 6865 Hickory Road, was built onsite in 1998 from original 1929 blueprints, with the help of many, many volunteers. It even has clean and modern restrooms hiding behind that 30’s disguise. Seeing the price for a gallon of gas at 18.5 cents awakens memories of a disappearing element of roadside America. While the station appears as if it has always been here, it is actually an accurate re-creation of an early 1930’s Shell Station, complete with all the tools of a full service garage from the period. Inside the memorabilia includes gas pump globes, oil cans and jars, gas cans, a vintage fuel delivery truck, Coke machine and bottles, tire rack, thermometer, signs, key making equipment, a vintage office, and those familiar Shell metal chairs. Golly, it sure brought back recollections of my youth hanging out at Money’s Service. The porcelain signs that adorn the building hold special significance to the museum itself. They were originally part of Hickory Corner’s own Shell Station, which was once located only three miles down the road from its current location. The station sold Shell products until 1942 when these signs were removed and destined for a wartime scrap drive. In 1998, Shell memorabilia collector Dick Walters discovered these signs hanging in a barn a little more than a mile from the Museum and added them to his impressive collection. Aside from being a collector, Mr. Walters is the founder of Walter-Dimmick Petroleum of Marshall, Michigan, the nation’s largest Shell jobber. Dick Walters not only donated a large collection of memorabilia and signage for the service station, but he was also instrumental in obtaining financial contributions toward the project from Shell Jobbers and Dealers of Michigan. Other groups and individuals providing valuable assistance in creating the service station include, but are not limited to: Kalamazoo Antique Auto Restorers Club and the Kalamazoo Valley Antique Tractor, Engine & Machinery Club working on the site preparation and finishing the inside of the building. Robert and Sonia Turnquist provided a substantial financial contribution, as did the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs, and the hundreds of individuals who have purchased engraved bricks used for the driveway. I encourage you to visit the Gilmore Car Museum in Hickory Corners, Michigan. There are many items displayed here that I haven’t seen since my childhood. It caused me to remember three of my adult mentors that have a special place in my heart: Bob Peffley, Les Edwards, and Mel Shidler. God bless them all for their good works. It’s frustrating when you know all the answers but nobody bothers to ask you the questions…

Last year I got to do my first play in community theatre, “The Sunshine Boys.” It started off as a check off on my bucket list, but once I got a taste of theatre, I was hooked. I followed it up with “Inherit The Wind.” This summer I thought about trying a musical, if I could get a non-singing and dancing role. I had no idea what I was in for. Wow! It’s been an exciting summer… with my heart deal, my new grandkids and while that was going on I was practicing for “Fiddler on the Roof” at Center Stage Biloxi. Fiddler is one of the most popular musicals of all time. It features some incredible, timeless music. “If I were a Rich Man,” “Matchmaker” and “Sunrise Sunset.” Chuck White has been with Center Stage over 40 years and is considered one of the best directors in this part of the country. I had no idea how he would react to me bringing up that I’d like to be in “Fiddler on the Roof,” because I knew the cast was going to be incredible. I called Chuck and told him I’d like to be in the show and I would like to play the Russian Constable because he was the bad guy and had no dancing or singing parts. There was a long silence on the phone…Chuck said “if you want to be in the show, I’d like to have you as part of the ensemble, can you sing?” I told him no, maybe with the radio or in the shower. He went on to set up a singing audition with the choir director at MGCCC, our local community college. I passed the audition with my singing of Amazing Grace. I attended a few music rehearsals, being surrounded by great musical talent, I quickly lost interest. I can’t read music and I didn’t understand everything that was being said. I felt like a fish out of water. So I stopped going. I get a call from Chuck asking how the rehearsals are going and I told him it was just not my cup of tea. He brought up the Russian Constable role and I jumped at the chance. It’s what I wanted from the start. Music rehearsals wound down as the music was learned and the play practice began with dialog, blocking (positions and movement) and dancing. There was a music director, two choreographers and the director. I saw early on this entire combination of 35 or more people was really special. The talent was through the roof, no pun intended. Three months of intense practice 3 or 4 nights per week. Some lasted 3 hours, the longest was 8 hours. We opened July 23rd for 10 performances. It would be…Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, followed by Tuesday – Sunday the following week. I could tell from rehearsals that the show was good, I mean really good, in every way. Early on in rehearsals you start and stop a lot running thru the scenes, toward the end you run through from start to finish with director notes at the end. We have a person that follows each line of dialog in the play and takes notes of ANY word or line you mess up. At the end of rehearsal, she hands out index cards with your boo boos on them. The last 3 nights of practice, no cards. In all her years she said she had never not had cards to hand out and there were 3 nights in a row with no cards. Practice is one thing, but you crank it up to another gear once the play starts! Wow! This show was considered by many as one of the best shows in 41 years at Center Stage. Opening night sold out, as did the next, the next and the next as the word spread. All told, 10 straight performances were sold out. Center Stage held it over another week, four more performances, all sold out. It was incredible. Some came as many as 4 times to see it. I firmly believe we could have sold out another week! I had friends that came, mainly to support me, not big theatre folks…

they all loved it. One of my ole racing buddies came and I thought, he’s not going to like this show at all. In the hand shake line I saw him coming…grinning from ear to ear. I said did you like it? He said “I didn’t want it to end.” “I didn’t like it, I loved it.” The theatre seats 152 and they added seats every night and to see the reactions and responses of the attendees really was awesome. These are a few that stood out in my mind that I remember. “I’ve see Fiddler 4 times and this was by far the best.” “I saw this play on Broadway, I liked yours better!” “I saw this play in Mobile, y’all did it much better!” “You were a mean man, but I want to hug your neck!” “You’re lucky people didn’t throw things at you! You played the part so well” “You were the best Constable I have seen in Fiddler.” “You were perfect for the part!” As long as I live, I will never forget being a part of this exciting event. The hard work, the mess ups, the talented folks I was fortunately able to work with, the show itself, the long hours and the limited sleep. It’s like a boot camp, summer camp and an adopted family that scatters into the wind at the end of the show. The end was so bittersweet. I even had to miss the August Coast Cruizers Cruize-In at Edgewater Mall because of the play, but J. R. made a performance and he loved it to. It was something I wish I could have shared with everyone I know, because words just doesn’t do it justice…as hard as I tried to tell you about it. Don’t miss the Coast Cruizers 1st Saturday night CruizeIn September 5. It will be the last one before Cruising The Coast. Get that ole Hot Rod out, shake her down cause fall weather and Cruising The Coast is coming! til next month…

It's December 1st 1957, 5 a.m. on Sunday morning. It was still dark and I'm standing there watching Harold Miller, Le Roy Nuemeyer, and Don, winch the race car on the trailer. This was a lot different then Midget dirt track racing on the 1/4 or 1/2 mile and sometimes 1 mile dirt tracks. We are headed for Riverside (road course) Speedway in Riversdie, Calif. All the cars qualified on Saturday, and I had the Pontiac in the dash (4 fastest qualifiers) with Troy Ruttman (Chevrolet) Jerry Unser, (Ford) and Sam Hanks (Mercury). I ran 8 races in 1957 with the Pontiac, never missed the dash, always started in the rear due to trophy dash times. I never won a dash from the rear. It was a lot easier from the front row, (3rd & 4th quick) and little chance of getting "bent". This was how I made my living for 14 years. Never lost an engine, and flipped only once when leading. My good friend Don (Rotten Red) Edmunds attempted to pass me for the lead, spun out in front of me & I went over ( flipped) 5 times! Woke up in the hospital the next a.m. (about 4 a.m.) Don says he broke a radius rod causing him to spin. It was a 100 lapper at San Bernardino, (but that's another story) Back to Riverside, Calif., Harold and I take off in his 1956 Ford pickup with the race car and trailer on the back, loaded with fuel, tires, oil, etc. It's 65 miles to Riverside from Bellflower where Harold has his shop called "Miller Crankshaft". It was right next to the street that was the boundary between Lakewood, Calif. and Bellflower, Calif. It's 7 a.m. and we are half way there, when the fuel pump quits. Harold jumps out hollers at me to "lite up" the Pontiac" as he lets down the trailer ramps. I back it off, and he puts a tow chain on the front bumper and I pull the trailer back! He takes the "bolt on bottom" trailer hitch off, and puts it on the back of the Pontiac! I pull around (with the race car) and push the Ford off the road. No ditches in So. Calif., plenty of shoulder width. (So. Calif., gets about 9 to 11 inches of rain a year) Anyway Harold mounts the hitch on the rear bumper (see photo) . I back the race car up and we hook up the trailer (loaded with tires wheels etc.) Now in those days you had to appear to be "strickly stock" on the body. We line up for the dash, Ruttman (4th quick) on the pole, Unser, Hanks and then me. After the dash (I got 3rd) Harold comes over to me and says "I clocked you at 156 m.p.h. just past Champion Spark Plug bridge on the back straight! We wound up 10th out of 33 cars, and that's a story I've told before. I made 4 pit stops for tires and one for gas. I passed Jerry Unser, the eventual winner when he was leading the race down the back straight, but I blew the left front recaps (note recap) in the right turn. It was only about 200 yards from the pits. When they put on another wheel and tire, I was last, the whole field had gone by! The problem with road courses is they run them to the right, all our efforts on the car was to make it handle to the left, on a circle track. So, back out I go, and I'm catching the tail enders that are running last. The Pontiac had the 347 cubic inch Kettering designed engine, and after Harold got done with, the crankshaft, valves, and heads, it would fly! In 8 or 10 laps I was backup in the top ten! In those days you had to run all the glass windows, front and rear bumpers, chrome trim, hood latches, battery in stock location etc. etc. There was only one way for a driver to talk to the pits. On the drivers side window was written (in white paint) oil, tires, gas, water. As a driver, you just rolled the window up as you went by the pits.

A veteran (from Latin vetus, meaning "old") is a person who has had long service or experience in a particular occupation or field; "A veteran of..." This page refers to military veterans, i.e., a person who has served or is serving in the armed forces. Those veterans that have had direct exposure to acts of military conflict may also be referred to as war veterans (although not all military conflicts, or areas in which armed combat takes place, are necessarily referred to as wars). Veterans Day is Wednesday 11 November For those of you who may not know….Veterans Day is a public holiday that is dedicated to honoring anyone who has served in the United States military. The holiday began as a day to remember the end of World War I (one) and was declared a holiday by President Woodrow Wilson in 1919. Originally known as Armistice Day, The First Official Armistice Day was subsequently held on the Grounds of Buckingham Palace on the Morning of 11th November 1919. This would set the trend for a day of Remembrance for decades to come. Most countries changed the name of the holiday just prior to or after World War II, to honor veterans of that and subsequent conflicts. Most member states of the Commonwealth of Nations, like United Kingdom and (as Canada in 1931), adopted the name Remembrance Day, while the United States chose All Veterans Day (later shortened to 'Veterans Day') to explicitly honor military veterans, including those participating in other conflicts. The holiday became Veterans Day in 1954. Most federal workers are given the day off and there is no mail service in the United States on this day. Federal workers who are required to work during the holiday are often given additional compensation as a benefit. The news is full of politicians tryin’ to make a name for themselves in one way or another. One of them maybe the new leader telling us how we should just give up all the things you were brought up believing, because it’s a new day. Help save our country….VOTE

Featured Bikers with Big Hearts: “Gunny” by admin · July 1, 2015 I want to tell you guys a story that happened last weekend. I was out on my old Sportster, riding in west Georgia, and, rolling down Highway 27 south, and I saw an absolutely terrible looking Geo Metro on the side of the road. Nothing exciting about that, because this thing looked like it shouldn’t have even made it to the road. What was amazing was that it had the hood up, and a guy clad in leather peeking around under it, cell phone on his ear, while a young woman and two toddlers sat in the car.
Ever since I was a little dude, I had aspirations of being a doctor or a lawyer, but my ole man had other plans for me. He told me when I grow up that I would be failure, lazy, and never amount to anything. So when I grew up, I made sure I didn't disappoint him. I'm trying to get out of the 70's rut, so I took the plunge and turned my flip phone in for a smart phone. So when did we have to start taking an IQ test for a phone these days? I went to visit a biker dude the other day. Just as soon as I entered his yard, his dog charged at me. He hollered out at me, “don't worry, he doesn't bite, but he might lick you to death”. I said, “that is still a terrible way to die”. Hey man, how can someone who is supposed to be prolife, be for the death penalty? On the other hand, how can someone who is supposed to be prochoice, be against the death penalty? I'm just saying. Hey if there are any terrorists out there, who are thinking about committing jihad, could you please give me a heads up first, because I'm highly allergic to explosives and scrap metal!! They say nicotine in cigarettes is more addictive, than heroine, crack, or other drugs are. Oh ya, sure! When was the last time someone got caught in an arm robbery, handcuffed, and going to jail saying, “come on man, I really need the money, so I can get me some more smokes”. I go to the bakery, occasionally, for some donuts and coffee. My ole lady thinks I'm going to flirt with the young ladies there. She says, “how come you can never seem to bring me any donuts home for me”? I said, “If I ask for some donuts to bring to my ole lady, that might not go over so well with them”. Know what I mean butter bean? Til next time, keep it hangin loose - Cuz
Just Be Cuz
Hey, check out my ad near the back of MotorSports.
Since it was in a pretty low-visibility section of the highway, I had slowed way down, and that was when I noticed an awfully shiny Electra Glide with Arkansas plates pulled up beside it with an easy $10,000 worth of chrome “goodies” on it. Now, since I love bikes and telling you guys about them, and this looked like a good story, I pulled over and kicked down. One of the toddlers was actually a little old lady that looked worse than the Geo. The young woman was her granddaughter, and the real toddler was her great-granddaughter. The biker on the Glide? Just a random guy who saw somebody in trouble and pulled over to help. He was actually on the phone with the young woman’s husband who was trying to get a ride to come out there. Our big mean biker? The only name I got out of him was Gunny, but he had seen the family stopped on the side of the road and offered to help. He’d called the lady’s husband (the family didn’t have much money, much less any minutes on their cell phone so Gunny had used his phone to call the husband’s job) and he had told him what the issue was most likely – apparently this Geo loved to cook relays- and said he’d be able to get out there within an hour. All this had taken place in the ten minutes before I’d gotten there. Gunny started poking around under the hood, moved the unused A/C system relay – the compressor was dead, anyhow- to the ignition and got them started up. He didn’t ask, he just did. He called the husband back and let him know that his family was on their way and what relays he had swapped around, and then he told the ladies to get back in the car and he’d follow them back to town where the husband was going to be. Since I wasn’t in a hurry, I told Gunny I’d follow along, too. When we got to town – or what passes for it in that part of South Georgia, they pulled over at a gas station to wait on the husband, and since he still wasn’t there, Gunny bought the family a round of cold drinks and waited for the young man to get there. I had to ask why Gunny was doing this, and all he would say was that his own rule was that if he saw a family or a lady broken down, he’d pull over, try to use what tools he had in his kit to get them back on the way, and if not, make sure somebody was coming for them. And he would stay until they were safe. I pressed him for a “why” and all he would say is to smile and say “why not?” So Gunny, thanks for being a great citizen, and to all you guys and gals reading this, think about what you did to help somebody this week. And make sure it’s enough. Taken from the Bikers Den - blog.bikersden.com Biker Lifestyle Blog and Motorcycle Industry News
