Gulf Coast MotorSports Magazine When we see someone that’s more successful, more talented, more blessed, it’s easy to get jealous. It’s easy to try to compete, try to discredit, talk about what they’re doing wrong and how they’re just lucky, they’re not really talented. Here’s a key. If you can’t celebrate someone else’s success, you will never get to where they are. If you’re jealous, intimidated, trying to outperform them, you’re going to get stuck. It’s a test. God brings these favor connections across our path. Are you secure enough in who you are to serve them, to honor them, to cheer them on or will your pride keep you from connecting with their favor? You don’t have to live worried, wondering how you’re going to accomplish your dreams, how you’re going to get the breaks you need, how you’re going to get out of that problem. God has it all figured out. He’s already ordained the right people to come across your path, He’s going to put you at the right place, cause good breaks to find you, blessings to track you down. God knows how to connect you to the right people. He knows how to get you to your destiny. You have no idea what God has in store for you. There are surprises that have your name on them that, if you saw them right now, would boggle your mind. In this due season year, things you’ve been praying about are going to suddenly fall into place: the right people will show up, the right opportunities will appear. Out of nowhere, unexpectedly, you didn’t see it coming, but God is going to amaze you with His goodness.

I was wondering what to get her for a Valentine’s gift so I said "You’ll know tonight." That evening I came home with a small package and gave it to my wife. Delighted, she opened it--to find a book entitled “The Meaning of Dreams.”

Jimbo, I walked into our local post office and noticed a middle-aged, well -dressed man standing at the counter methodically placing "Love" stamps on bright pink envelopes with hearts all over them. As he seals each envelop he sprays it with a puff of perfume. My curiosity got the better of me, so I went up to him and asked what he was doing. The man replies, "I'm sending out 1,000 Valentine cards signed, 'Guess who?'" "But why?" she asks. "Because I'm a divorce lawyer," he said. Barry8080@ Jimbo, An elderly lady was somewhat lonely and decided that she needed a pet to keep her company. So off to the pet shop she went. She searched and nothing seemed to catch her interest, except this one ugly frog. As she walked by the barrel he was in, he looked up and winked at her! He whispered, “I’m lonely too, buy me and you won’t be sorry.” The old Lady figured, what the heck, as she hadn’t found anything else. So, she bought the frog and went to her car. Driving down the road the frog whispered to her, “Kiss me, you won’t be sorry.” So,

the old lady figured what the heck, and kissed the frog. Immediately the frog turned into an absolutely gorgeous, sexy, handsome, young prince. Then the prince kissed her back, and you know what the old lady turned into? The first motel she could find...She’s old, not dead! Becka Trevino Jimbo, One day, there were two boys playing by a stream. One of the young boys saw a bush and went over to it. The other boy couldn't figure out why his friend was at the bush for so long. The other boy went over to the bush and looked. The two boys were looking at a woman bathing naked in the stream. All of a sudden, the second boy took off running. The first boy couldn't understand why he ran away, so he took off after his friend. Finally, he caught up to him and asked why he ran away. The boy said to his friend. "My mom told me if I ever saw a naked lady, I would turn to stone, and I felt something getting hard, so I ran." Posted by: BudMcqueen A man was sitting on the edge of the bed, observing his wife, looking at herself in the mirror. Since her birthday was not far off he asked what she'd like to have for her Birthday. "I'd like to be six again", she replied, still looking in the mirror. On the morning of her Birthday, he arose early, made her a nice big bowl of Lucky Charms, and then took her to Six Flags theme park. He put her on every ride in the park; the Death Slide, the Wall of Fear, the Screaming Monster Roller Coaster, everything there was. Five hours later they staggered out of the theme park. Her head was reeling and her stomach felt upside down. What a day! He then took her to a McDonald's where he ordered her a Happy Meal with extra fries and a chocolate shake. Then it was off to a movie, popcorn, a soda pop, and her favorite candy, M&M's. What a fabulous adventure! Finally she wobbled home with her husband and collapsed into bed exhausted. He leaned over his wife with a big smile and lovingly asked, "Well Dear, what was it like being six again??" Her eyes slowly opened and her expression suddenly changed. "I meant my dress size, You dumb ass!" The moral of the story: Even when a man is listening, he is gonna get it wrong. Till Next Month Jimbo

Think before you drink! A woman and a man are involved in a car accident on a snowy, cold Monday morning; it's a bad one. Both of their cars are totally demolished but amazingly neither of them is hurt. God works in Mysterious ways. After they crawl out of their cars, the woman says, "So.... you're a man. That's interesting. I'm a woman. Wow, just look at our cars! There's nothing left, but we're unhurt. This must be a sign from God that we should meet and be friends and live together in peace for the rest of our days". Flattered, the man replies, "Oh yes, I agree with you completely, this must be a sign from God!" The woman continues, "And look at this, here's another miracle. My car is completely demolished but this bottle of wine didn't break. Surely God wants us to drink this wine and celebrate our good fortune. "... Then she hands the bottle to the man. The man nods his head in agreement, opens it and drinks half the bottle and then hands it back to the woman. The woman takes the bottle and immediately puts the cap back on, and hands it back to the man. The man asks, "Aren't you having any?" The woman replies, "No. I think I'll just wait for the police...." MORAL OF THE STORY: Women are evil. Don't mess with them.

Here's some of our all-time favorite Southern slang. Bless Your Heart … It can be deployed sincerely, but if you’re hearing “bless your heart” in the South, it probably has an edge to it. It’s almost always accompanied by a good-natured, perhaps slightly exasperated, shake of the head. Don’t worry, though, everyone hears this every now and again. Fixin' To… I’m fixin’ to tell you that this phrase is as Southern as sweet tea. When you’re fixin’ to do something, it’s going to happen, but you also may decide to take your sweet time. It Doesn’t Amount to a Hill of Beans… In the South, a hill of beans is its own measuring stick. Whether you’re talking about volume or value, a hill of beans isn’t worth much. That means whatever you’re talking about is worth less than very little. It's Blowin' Up a Storm… If you’ve ever been caught in a summer storm, you know that you can feel, smell, and see a storm blowin’ up across the wide Southern skies. These skies can darken at a moment’s notice, and summer afternoons often see winds churning and heavy rain clouds blowing in to cool that Southern summer heat. More Than Carter’s Got Little Pills… This one originates from the 19th century, when Carter Products marketed “Little Liver Pills” across the country. Apparently Carter had a great many pills, because the phrase found its way into the Southern vocabulary. You may still hear it if you stop into a country store. Over Yonder… When you”re in the South, “over yonder” is a distant direction any direction. The phrase may be accompanied by a gesture indicating north, south, east, or west. Over yonder down the road. Over yonder past the cotton field. Over yonder toward the water tower. This phrase can be intensified by the addition of the word “way.” as in “way over yonder.” She was Madder Than a Wet Hen… Have you ever seen a wet hen? If so, you know that being madder than a wet hen is very mad indeed. 'Til the Cows Come Home… Settle in, because whatever we’re talking about is going to take all day. Cows aren’t known for their speed, and they are usually out and about, wandering until feeding time. Farmers know that if you do something ‘til the cows come home, it’s going to take all day. If I Had My Druthers… “Druthers” roughly translates to “I would rather,” meaning, “If had things my way” The phrase is celebrated in song in the hilarious, Southern-inspired Broadway musical Li’l Abner, in which the title character sings “If I had my druthers, I'd druther have my druthers than anything else I know.” And really, would’t we all druther have our druthers? I Reckon… I reckon “I reckon” can replace any number of phrases, such as: I guess, I suppose, I think, and I imagine. It is a quintessential Southern phrase, said by friends and family on porches and in rocking chairs all across the South. She's as Pretty as a Peach… This is a high compliment in the South, since Southern states are known for their peaches. In fact, Georgia and South Carolina produce more peaches than any other states in the South. And of course, there’s nothing prettier than a warm summer day picking peaches in the sunshine. Full As A Tick… If you’ve just had a big Southern lunch, complete with cornbread, collard greens, and pecan pie, you’re definitely full as a tick. It’s a vivid phrase, and it’s an accurate one too. If the Creek Don't Rise… Translated, this means: “We’ll be there unless something out of our control stops us.” Unlike the United States Postal Service, whose motto proclaims “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night” will keep them from their routes, sometimes a Southern visit is thwarted by a rising creek or other unexpected bump in the road. Worn Slap Out… When you’re exhausted in an I’m-so-beat-I-can’tgo-on kind of way, you’re definitely worn slap out. It is a physical

and mental state a few degrees past weary and just this side of dog -tired. It happens often during a Southern summer, when the heat rises and the temperatures shoot past 100. Hold Your Horses… Stop right there! This one may be selfexplanatory, but we can imagine it originating back in the days of stagecoaches, when horse-and-buggy pairs filled the streets. If you hear this one, it’s best to slow down. Well, I Declare… A multipurpose Southernism. If you use this phrase, you could be declaring any number of things: surprise, dissent, happiness. The only requirement is that you declare it loud and proud. He Was Funny as All Get Out… “All get out” finds its way into Southern phrases constantly, and it intensifies any statement. I was surprised as all get out. It was bad as all get out. Anything to the degree of “all get out” is something to talk about. No Bigger Than a Minnow in a Fishing Pond… When you arrive on the banks of the fishing pond on Saturday mornings, you’re hoping for a good catch- enough big catfish and bream to fry up for the family on Saturday night. If you find only minnows, though, they look even smaller compared to the heavy catch you hoped for. No bigger than a minnow in a fishing pond is as tiny as can be. Heavens to Betsy… An exclamation of surprise, anger, happiness, really any emotion that is appropriate in nearly every Southern scenario. Hush Your Mouth… Grandma might whisper this one over her hymnal if she sees you cutting up in church on Sunday morning. We admit that we’ve heard this Southernism more than once. Too Big for His Britches… Unarguable Southern criticism. Translated, it means, “He sure does think a lot of himself.” If you hear this one, you should probably pause a moment. Southerners tell it like it is- no matter what it is so think of this as a learning moment. She's Got Gumption… Gumption is spirit, courage, spunk, boldness, and initiative. If someone tells you that you’ve got gumption, you should thank them, and then walk a little taller, because you’ve received a lovely Southern compliment. Southerners adopted this phrase wholeheartedly from its early usages in 1700s England and Scotland (where it meant “common sense”). In the 1900s, the word evolved, taking on a Southern spin as well as new meanings such as “courage” and “get-up-andgo.”

Hi, my name is Cody Schoppe the founder of Project Maynardstang. At the age of three I was diagnosed with a brutal muscle disease called Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Since then, I have participated in walks, telethons, and many other MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Association) events. At one point I was even the area spokesman for MDA. These events inspired me to start my own movement/ cause that I call Project Maynardstang (‘Maynard’ is a nickname my dad gave me a long time ago, and ‘Stang’ represents my love for my favorite car, the Ford Mustang.) I officially started Project Maynardstang 3 years ago. I decided to take my passion for raising awareness of muscle disease and disabilities in general and combined it with my passion for cars. Project Maynardstang raises funds and awareness for Muscular Dystrophy and the disabled. This past September the Cameron VFW hosted a cruise-in benefitting the Muscular Dystrophy Association and those fighting Muscle Disease. Old and new friends enjoyed music as they checked out cars of all makes, models, and generations. It was fun day for the whole family. They even cruised of some Milam John Hughling from county scenic back roads. All money Temple, TX. with his 37 Ford raised went directly to MDA.

Can't Never Could… Positive thinking, Southern style. If you think you can’t, you won’t be able to accomplish something, but if you think you can, you’ll succeed. We like to read this as one of the greatest Southern encouragements, but, like most of these phrases, you can use it however you’d like.

God Gives every bird it's food, but He does not throw it into its nest.

Our Centerfold is from Cruisin’ for a Cause at Wolf Ranch Town Center in Georgetown Texas. This event was a fund raiser for PTSD Foundations of America. Be a good driver, put your phone down & understand a few things about those on motorcycles. In the dry, We leave a 3 second gap and in the wet 5 seconds. The gap I leave between the car in front of me isn't for you to squeeze in. Contrary to popular belief, I cannot stop my bike on a dime! We speed up when We are in your blind spot, not to race, but so that you can see me. PLEASE put your phone down because the life you save may be mine or indeed yours as well. Remember we all have to share the road. When making a lane change, please use the driver assistance devices that are fitted to your vehicle known as MIRRORS and the blinky things that they call indicators! We ride with our lights on at all times, this is for those less observant so you can see us day or night! Also if you think my exhaust pipes are too loud, ask yourself if you saw me first or heard me first? So please watch out for me and all the Biking Brothers and Sisters on the roads. We are all someone’s husband, wife, son, daughter, uncle, aunt, sister, brother, niece, nephew, neighbor or best friend. We will all be better off, and we will be alive to come home to our loved ones. It doesn’t matter who has the right of way because either way, we all lose. If you're a fellow biker or a conscientious car driver please feel free to share this information. Thanks hope we'll see each other on the road. Posted by: David Spires

Cruising Cajun Country Gives Back to People in Need On December 18th, members of Cruisin Cajun Country Car Club of New Iberia were on hand to give a child a therapeutic bike for Christmas. The club has given three of these special bikes away this year. These bikes are custom built for the recipient and come from Longview Texas through a program called AMBUCS. Each bike is custom fit for the individual recipient. They can literally go from totally dependent on a wheeled chair to riding a bike with little to no assistance. We have found this program to be very rewarding. It benefits the child in so many ways. It strengthens their arms and legs. It gives them independence. It bring them joy, every time! It addresses the mind, body and soul. The car club has been in existence since 2009. It’s a group of 45 members who all have a common interest in Muscle, Antique and Classic cars and trucks. This will be the 12th year of giving back to the community. The first donations in 2009 were around $500. In 2019 the club gave $19,868 to 19 different causes and charities. They raise money all year long through three different events. In the Spring there is an open car show where participants will come and register their show cars for public viewing. This is a free event for the public and trophies are awarded at the end. In May is the big event. It’s a three day cruise around Cajun Country. People from all over the Gulf South come to New Iberia to see and experience true Cajun Culture. You have probably seen the cars around town. Then in September they host a Sugar Daddy Car Show. It is this event where most of the donations are made. Again, it is an open car show where participants will come and register their show cars for public viewing. This is a free event for the public and trophies are awarded at the end. Also, a big part of the clubs ability to give back comes from the sponsors. A Small Club with a Big Heart!! To learn more about the Club, becoming a sponsor or the events they put on visit cruisincajuncounty.com or find them on Facebook. “The California Kid” The Back Story I have been involved with cars all my life, specifically rods and customs. But this story is not as much about me as it is the hot rod coupe I built for myself that became known as “The California Kid”. During the late 60’s and early 70’s the “T-Bucket” craze swept the country and me along with it. I had a great little car that I built in my parent’s garage and just had a blast tearing up the streets of Southern California. But there was something missing. I guess I was looking for a more basic ride. Maybe build a hot rod that would conjure up the early days of hot rodding. A hot rod that could have been part of the stories I heard as a kid being passed back and forth between my dad and his pals out in the garage. The more I thought about it, the better it got. It would have to be a coupe. After all, my two favorite cars were the Les Hawkins “15 oz. Coupe” and Gary Wagner’s legendary chopped full-fendered street racer. Both cars were ’34 For “Hemi” powered coupes and the badest of the bad! As luck would have it, I had mentioned my idea to Randy Troxel. Randy was a local drag racer and really had the pulse of what was going on in the valley. He told me he had heard about a chopped full-fendered ’34 three-window that was stashed in a Glendora garage. He also said it would be a tough sale as the guy really did not want to part with it. We made contact and after what seemed like years (actually two weeks) the deal was made. I bought the car on New Years Day of 1972 and moved it to our backyard garage in Temple City. I sold the “T” and kept the drive train which included the wheels and tires. I now had all the pieces I needed to get started on my dream car. I quit my job at Clayton Mfg. Co. (my Dad’s alma mater) in May of 1972 and went to work for Phil Lukens at Blair’s Speed Shop in Pasadena. My wife Carol and I had a house, two small children (Nicole and Peter 4), a ’67 VW and ’50 Bel Air. At the time, leaving a secure job and heading out into the hot rod world did not seem right to most people but it felt right to me. Again the timing was perfect. It gave me the opportunity to hone my skills as a chassis builder and at the same time get the coupe a pedigree. I made life long friends while working at Blair’s; Phil Lukens, Eric Vaughn, Pete Eastwood, Bob Goldsmith and Jim Ewing. Phil was the boss at Blair’s and still is, Eastwood and I were the chassis guys, Bob was on the front counter, Eric ran the machine shop and Ewing… he was there for color. It was a special time and we enjoyed every minute of it. Carol has always been patient with my car addiction but especially during this particular build. Money was tight as my pals and I worked on the car every free minute. I had lots of help on the car, guys like Richard Loe, Tom Vandenburg and Dick Randal came by when an extra hand was needed. Blair’s engine builder, Buddy Lotsberg made my 302 small-block Ford a screamer. Vaughn taught me how to use the louver press and Dale Caulfield handled the major body-work and paint. For a while I built the car to be an icebox-white hi-boy but, in the end, a full-fendered black, Manuel Reyes flamed coupe would win out. I met Rod & Custom Magazine’s Gray Baskerville through Bob Langton, a mutual Pasadena friend. It was Gray who came by my house on a rainy afternoon to see the car that actually started my friendship with Jim “Jake” Jacobs. Once Jake and I became acquainted and R&C editor Bud Bryan got involved in the build our coupes were now headed for the cover of R&C. Little did I know then that the now famous “coupes issue” would change our lives forever. They say that timing is everything…well in my case it was never more true. The popularity of the November 1973 issue of Rod & Custom magazine not only helped Jake and I start out business (Pete & Jake’s Hot Rod Parts) in early 1974 but it was also the cover shot of the coupes that caught the eye of TV and movie producer Howie Horowitz in June of 1974. Mr. Horowitz was producing a made-for-TV movie at Universal Studios and he had been searching for a car to play a key role with the movie’s star, Martin Sheen. With only 4 days left before filming he still had o car.

8

FEBRUARY 2020

He saw the R&C cover shot and I got the call. Jake and I headed out the next morning and by that afternoon the coupe was cast as “The California Kid.” They used the car for two weeks and turned my pristine hot rod into a real stunt “work horse.” The driving chores were handled by Jerry Summers (The French Connection) and the stunts were coordinated by Hal Needham (Smoky and the Bandit.) Jake was “hired” on as the official hot rod advisor and babysat the coupe for the duration of filming. We were treated like kings by the cast and crew and it was one of the most exciting times of our lives. The movie debuted on Wednesday night, September 25, 1974 and was ABC’s 200th made-for-TV “Movie of the Week.” The best part of the whole thing was Universal Studios gave us permission to use the term “Home of The California Kid” in the Pete and Jake’s logo and as they say; “the rest is history.” After filming one of my friends, while eyeballing the damage, asked; “would you do it again?” My answer…”in a heart beat.” The car just never stops giving. It’s been over 35 years since this saga started and “The California Kid” is still giving to this very day. Like I said earlier; creating the car changed our lives forever and I hope you enjoy the movie as much as I enjoy telling “The Back Story.” ….. Pete Chapouris

January 11th was the Planning meeting at the Holiday Inn Hotel in Pearl, Ms. The weather was very bad, but with all the bad weather there were around 70 Street Rodder showed up. Chicken Willie started the meeting and went month by month. The rodders would say when their shows were and what they supported. After we went thru the 12 months, everyone broke for lunch. When everyone was finished the hall of Fame was announced and it was Pam Hatten from that area. She was so surprised, she is also big in doing charities for car shows and has her family with their own rods. Well deserved award. The NSRA Street Rod of The Year went to Donnie Cool. He has built so awesome Cars and Trucks. He built a truck for a Clint in Oklahoma, when he found out Donnie had won the award he came in to recognize him for the great Pam Hatten job he did on his truck. Donnie was overwhelmed and couldn't talk all he could say was Thank Everyone. It is so good to see someone get a award and appreciate it so much.

It’s been a busy few months for most of us along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Between toy drives and cruise nights when possible we pretty much can have fun with cars for a cause all year round. I also stay busy with the toy events with the motorcycle groups too, as well as charity rides. It seems lately I have been spending my time riding with fewer wheels. I recently participated in the Last Ride of the Year, a ride to Stockton Alabama to the Stage Coach Café. If you have never done this and ride motorcycles, I suggest you put this on your bucket list of rides to make. I was pleasantly surprised to see about 700 others that enjoyed this destination as well, from all around the country too. The long-distance rider this year was from Arizona. The parking area was full, as well as the overflow lot across the street, more participation there than I had imagined. The food was good and the staff handled the large crowd very efficiently too. So, with all of the above goings on, there was very little time to work on the big truck project, its still there and I am patiently waiting on the slightly warmer and drier weather to set in to finish painting the doors. Still doing odds and ends, all with the vision of the first test ride in this new old truck. That vision is slowly getting more in focus. I did order a few more pieces to this puzzle and got some of the glass tinted and ready for its install, when the time comes. By the time this article hits the presses we will have participated in the first Rod run of the year. Yes, the 28th Winter Rod Run will

have been held, in again a new location, this time in Slidell La. If you happened to miss this one, let me just say in advance it was a good one. This was the old Diamond Head Winter Rod Run put on by Southern Who. They most likely had a good crowd with nice cars and trucks, and fun to be had by all in attendance. Maybe I can get some good pics and share with you all next time. I do so look forward to this one, its always been a good time for me. On the home front, the Queen has begun our travel agenda for the year ahead, she has been quite busy checking out places to visit, and stay for a short time. Her planning is always amusing for me as she is always asking when we may venture off, sometime she asks if I had plans for a certain time. I usually do but hey I can roll off to where ever she wishes to travel to at the drop of a hat, my plans are very flexible. So, as she says let’s go here, I will be gone in a flash. Look forward to a few pictures from some of these adventures, should be interesting. Soon it will be St Valentines Day, and then in a few weeks it will be Mardi Gras. I don’t participate much in the Fat Tuesday parades and such, but I do like to take the Queen someplace for Valentine’s day, and get her a nice plant. She likes plants better than flowers because they last longer so that’s what I do. Seems to keep me in vacation travels and plans. It looks a though I will soon have a week or so of some halfway decent weather here soon, so from the Carriage house, Happy Cruising. Later,

By: Joyce Lachaussee Here we are in a new decade. It seems as we get older the years come faster. As each year speeds by us, it is good to pause and examine where we have been and what we have accomplished and contributed to our society. We may not realize it, but as car enthusiast – whether a restorer of classics, rot rods or any other version of the car hobby, we have made a great contribution in keeping our skills alive. I think those of us who are seniors see a changing world in the car hobby. We may not like what we see but you cannot change the trends anymore than our forefathers before us. Can you imagine what the 50’s hobbyist would think of the resto mods with an LS engine? Probably the same thing we think today about the changes seen in our hobby. Yet, our group has kept the love of cars alive by passing on the abilities for body work and mechanical skills to the younger generation. It has also been this same group that has experimented with body styles, engine capabilities, paint and the desire to always go faster and do better than the last generation. So, while the older stock cars may be on the decline, it is also these same cars that has generated the popularity of TV shows like ‘Overhaulin’, ‘Desert Car Kings, ‘Street Outlaws’ and Barrett-Jackson Auction. Our hobby has also allowed for significant improvements that are evident in our daily drivers. So, give yourself a pat on the back and reflect with happiness your contribution to the next generation that will benefit from your knowledge and joy (although sometimes frustrating and hard work) of your hobby. A celebration is on its way to Hardee’s Breakfast Cruise In! Next month marks the 10th anniversary of the breakfast cruise. Talk about time flying. Those who have regularly attended find it hard to believe it’s been 10 years. We encourage everyone to come dressed in the 50’s style with best costume winning a free breakfast. There will be Dash Plaques commemorating the anniversary given to the first 50 cars. Since it’s Valentine’s Day, you should bring your sweetheart. You never know there might even be something for them on this special day. We hope to see all the regulars plus anyone that would enjoy seeing the cars/trucks. Come with your toy or drive the family car and celebrate with us. Once again, weather has been a deterrent for the cruise in. Most folks don’t want their treasure getting rained on. Still we had about 15 who braved the weather. Everyone was happy to be out and about after the holidays and were looking forward to a bright and happy 2020. Thanks to those who came, whether in your cruise vehicle or your family car. See you next month at Hardee’s in Lucedale on February 14th starting at 7:30 til. God Bless the United States of America and pray for all our military who are deployed and in harm’s way.

Come celebrate with us! HARDEE’S BREAKFAST GANG CRUISE IN 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY FEBRUARY 14TH – 2020, AT HARDEE’S LUCEDALE, MS – 7:30 TIL

Is History Important? My hot water bottle sprung a leak after many faithful years of service. I have grown up with a hot water bottle, useful for headaches, stomach aches, and back aches. I have used one all my life and I find it effective filled with hot or cold water. I have discovered that they do not last forever and need to be replaced eventually. I went to bed with it hoping to cure my headache and awoke to a soggy pillow. It was time to buy a new one. A big box store should have a large selection of them, so I drove there with plans to purchase a new one. There were electric heating pads but no hot water bottles. I have an electric heating pad and I don't like it. It does not do what my hot water bottle does. I tracked down an employee there and asked if they carried hot water bottles in the store. She said, "of course" and sent me to housewares and insulated bottles to drink coffee from. Hardly interchangeable! She was not that young, by the way, a young lady probably in her 40's. I asked another employee who also had no clue what I was searching for even though I gave a detailed explanation. I went to the pharmacy and asked. I was told they no longer carry them. Why does everything have to change? Giving up easily is not in my DNA. I went to a drugstore and searched. Electric heating pads and gel pads to put in the microwave were available, but no hot water bottle. I asked the manager of the store and he had no idea what I was referring to even after my lucid and clear description. I went to the leading big box store and asked for a hot water bottle. The employee there sent me to look at more cups with straws in them. I asked the Pharmacist and finally I found someone who knew what I was trying to find. He informed me that they no longer carried them in the store, but if I purchased it on-line I could have it delivered to the store and pick it up there. Finally, someone who had seen a hot water bottle! OK, I am not happy, but I do now have an avenue to get what I want. I go to their website, discover they have several brands and prices of hot water bottles. They are not extinct. Why aren't they in their stores for purchase? I get excited and attempt to order a snazzy blue one with a cover. It is not the same material as my old rubber one, but it is touted as much better because of the material it is constructed of. I follow the directions at checkout. I want this shipped to the store so I can pick it up there. The store is a mile from my house. I get through the process and it wants to send it to my house for a fee of $16.97. That is more than the cost of the hot water bottle! I work and work for 45 minutes and have no success at getting it delivered to the store. Am I frustrated? Is a monkey's behind red? Yes, I am deeply frustrated and cursing. I mentioned earlier, I am not one to give up or be beaten by some stupid website. At my wits end, I call a friend that puts up with my outbursts and misbehavior. A friend that is 3 years younger and is not as addle brained as I am. After calming me down, this was resolved and I will be able to pick up a new hot water bottle in two days, at the store. This hot water bottle had better be a "Humdinger"!!! No, I have not completely lost my mind. I tell you this true tale to make a point. I have been promoting mentoring in Trunk Tales for three months. Young people are not learning about the past. Hot water bottles are not the issue here. Keeping history alive and

teaching next generations about how things have developed over the years is what is important. Making sure they understand the importance of how the carburetor was engineered, the advancements that were made to them, and how to disassemble and adjust them. What the function of points and condensers and capacitors are in the older ignition systems. How do they work? Why are electronic ignition systems more reliable? This is a small thing to me. I grew up with these systems. Just think back for a minute at all the advancements that have been made during our lifetimes. I want my 1946 Ford enjoyed by my grandchildren long after I am gone. They are already making plans for when they inherit it. It will keep my memory alive in them. I have already begun tutoring them in automotive repair. My grandchildren know the history of this street rod and its nine previous owners. This will keep me alive in their minds and hopefully in their children's minds. My friends, the things that have been accomplished in our lives are important, and what we have learned is as well. Let me emphasize that. YOU are important to history, your family, your friends, and to people you influence as you go about your day to day living. YOU have knowledge that must be passed on, or it will be forever forgotten. YOU will live on in others. It is important! Pass this piece of you on. "Experience is not what happens to you; it's what you do with what happens to you." Aldous Huxley I hope this new year of 2020 is wonderful to you and you experience many blessings.

The off season for car shows continues but this has been the fastest off season I’ve ever gone through. There is a little guy somewhere that is speeding up time for me, faster and faster every year, if I can ever get my hands on that little guy…I think life is about running the race, until you can no longer keep up. I hope I have a little more running left, “If you love what you’re doing, you’ll never work a day in your life!” I don’t know who said that but it wasn’t me. Anything you “have to” do, becomes work, make no mistake about that. Emerald Coast Cruizin in Panama City Beach, FL will be my first car show of the year. It will be Wednesday March 4 through Saturday March 7. This show is one of the best in the Southeast. As of the this column deadline, Dennis Gage with the TV Show My Classic Car, 7:30 am Saturday morning on Motor Trend Network and Stacey David with the TV show Gearz on at 6:30 Saturday morning on Motor Trend will be there greeting fans, signing autographs and taking pictures Friday and Saturday.

Local popular acts Todd Allen Herendeen and Tommy Townsend will be performing. The Mega 50/50 last spring was over $11,500. I think everyone will like my assistant; you’ll have to wait on that one. The very next weekend will be my annual appearance at The New Roads Street Festival Car Show in New Roads, LA. That show is about 300 cars packed into old downtown New Roads, it sits down on The False River, once a part of the mighty Mississippi River now it’s an oxe-bow lake, 10 miles long and about 22 miles around. I love this show. I stay in a old remodeled downtown hotel, walk a block to breakfast and another block to the Hot Rod Show trailer. They take good care of me, feed me well, the car show is incredible, Auto Zone provides a ton of door prizes and the Mega 50/50 is always good. Dennis Gage covered a car show on the islands of Trinidad and Tobago. When I saw the show the first time last year, I thought that would be a cool car show to do, so I sent them an email, I got nothing back. So when I saw the program again last month, I thought once again, that would be a great place

to do a car show, so again I sent another email, this time I got a response. Clifford Tardieu the promoter emailed me back that they were interested. I told him I had his dates open and he emailed me back he wanted to talk. He called that night. We talked over an hour. He told me all about his car show and having Dennis Gage down. Cliff said he wanted me to do the show, let him put it together and get back to me. Next I received an email wondering if we could do Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica and Barbados. I told him make it happen. Trinidad and Tobago are in the lowest part of the Caribbean. Trinidad is a large city full of business and industry, while Tobago is a primitive tropical island that allows no cars, only peace and relaxation Caribbean style. The car culture is strong in Trinidad.

In talking with Cliff he said they had hundreds of cars and 10,000 people coming to the show. He said he would provide security for me and my assistant and a police escort in our travels. He offered me a week to stay there, but I don’t think I have that kind of time to be there. It’s an all-expenses paid trip. It appears at this point it will be a long weekend, April 24-27, all the details have to be worked out and I have to get a passport. In getting advice from Dennis Gage, he said it was a hectic trip, the people are very nice, he had security and a police escort everywhere. Dennis said he thought the security and escorts was a little bit overkill, but he said he did not complain. While Trinidad is a rich island, (minimum wage is $15 an hour) the cars are eclectic. You really see it all. I have the feeling I will be busy every second of the trip, I’ll try to work in one day of total relaxation in a primitive private environment of Tobago. I have a feeling I will need it. A lot of details have to be worked out to make it happen, after talking with Cliff for an hour and feeling his passion, I have no doubt he is up to it. Time is the big factor to make happen for this April, so we’ll see. A hundred details, one snag come kill it but it is exciting to plan. I have discovered the National Park, Fort Pickens National Park on Pensacola Beach. I love it. You enter the gate and drive down a narrow peninsula for 8 miles or more. On your left side is the open Gulf of Mexico and the surf, on your right side is Pensacola Bay. There are limited areas to park along the curvy 8 mile stretch, untouched beauty surrounds you. At the end is Fort Pickens, one of the largest forts I have ever been in. You drive into it and drive

around inside, a lot of history. There are rest rooms around the park, a fishing pier, things to see, to visit and to climb on, very interesting. The fort was built in 1834; it was one of the few southern forts the Yankee’s controlled during the entire Civil War, which was amazing to me. Langdon Beach is my favorite spots on the Gulf side. It is very close from the parking area to the beach; there is a large pavilion with nice rest rooms, shaded with picnic tables for lunch or just to get out of the sun and showers to wash the sand off at the end of the day. I take a couple of inch and a half, four foot long PVC pipes to hammer into the sand to hold my fishing rods, which works great. One of my first mornings fishing there, no sooner than I was getting my wagon down to my fishing spot, I see some guys down the beach had landed something big. So I take off down there with my cell phone to get some photos of what they have.

As I arrived on the scene I was blown away. These guys had landed an 11.5 Ft., 600+ LBS Tiger Shark. It was huge. The photos don’t do it justice. They used heavy tackle, steel leader and a big piece of Bonito fish for bait. They then used a kayak to take the bait way out. This group of guys was on vacation, last year they caught an over 100 pound Hammerhead and one of the guys wanted to get himself a big shark this year and boy did he. After getting the photos, the video, getting the hook out and bait out they released the big boy. Later people brought their kids swimming, I had to tell them, everyone stayed ankle deep that day. If you have any leads on the little man speeding up that time clock, please pass it along to me, we have some business to handle; otherwise I will talk to you next month. Same Bat Time, Same Bat Channel! Enjoy your version of the 17 FOREVER way of life! til next month…

Sleet Yeah, sleet. Buckets of it. And still people came to this month's Texoma Cars & Coffee. Were people worried about the roads, their cars, or their cars on the road? Sure. It was sleeting; who wouldn't be worried? But when an event stops being, “a thing I do,” and becomes, “a place I want to be,” it takes on a new importance in a person's life and in the life of the community. Do you remember diners? Those wonderments of the restaurant world which managed to be both the width of a horse stall and the center of all life and death gossip and business which fueled communities and neighborhoods? It can be easy to forget these places did more than serve food and give old men a place to drink their coffee in peace. They were a place to meet people and where important arguments on everything from city policy to who was the best infielder were decided. Before you start thinking I've suffered from a severe blow to the head, I promise this is going to lead to cars. Stick with me and we'll get there before you know it. I grew up in small, midwestern towns much like Denison, where there were one or two local diners which stood alone at the center of our universe. Need to find the guy who owns the lumber yard? Monday-Friday he does coffee at Bud & Joyce's, lunch at the Chuckwagon, and dinner at home. He'll be in the same booth sharing coffee with a rotating list of other business owners, friends, relatives, and town newbies - and anyone else in town who will stop for a moment to say, “Hi.” The entire diner would be filled with similar stories of the same people in the same seats, day -after-day holding Hell, people might think you had died in the night and were being eaten by wild dogs if you missed a day. As towns like Denison (or Peru, Indiana, or Keokuk, Iowa) have lost diners to changing tastes, the increasing popularity of food delivery services, and the economic realities of running a luncheonette, a sense of community and continuity which bridges socio-economic gaps has also been lost. Seriously. Even The Atlantic agrees. “When dinner from a restaurant replaces dinner in a restaurant, we lose track of all other people who are eating, as well. The way we shop and eat now forms a feedback loop with the general discrediting of the idea of “public good”-and, with it, of public spaces and shared civility.” https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2018/12/restaurantexperience-isnt-communal-anymore/577012/ Or, as The Smithsonian put it, “the anomie... we sometimes associate with diners derives, at heart, from their democratic

16

FEBRUARY 2020

nature; the only reason we suppose anything can happen in a diner is that e v e r yo n e is we l c o m e there.” https:// www.smithsonianmag.com/arts-culture/mystique-american-dinerjack-kerouac-twin-peaks-180964680/ So, where do we go now for that shared sense of community outside the confines of either religion or Facebook? Those of us lucky enough to either own or have an appreciation for Classic, Ratrod, Custom, of just plain cool cars know we have a roving, nationwide community of like-minded folk we can wile away a day or even a weekend with. A place where we are always welcome, always fit in, and always have someone to talk to. What we can sometimes forget is all of these cool cars which brought us together can also be the new center and sense of community in a town. There may not be a blue plate special, but arguments are won and lost, friends are gained and mourned, and gossip is traded like the high-value, small-town currency it is. Put enough car people in an area and, like magnets, they will eventually be drawn together, so this may seem like a lot of pressure to put on a Saturday morning car brag (and let's be honest - we all like to brag about our cars.) But why do we find each other? Why do we return again and again? Why do those with little more than a passing interest in cars come back and stay? Community. And our community is growing, whether from Jay and Cindy's kindness and diligence in welcoming all who come to their door, the boomtown atmosphere which surrounds downtown Denison, or a love of all things automotive. But it is the sense of a real community among the group which keeps people coming back. (Oh, and before I forget, don't panic if when you come next month and there aren't any Classics parked on Main Street. To include as many people as possible, we will be filling the parking lot behind Main Street Motors. No worries, there will be still be plenty of CJ's Coffee on hand.) And guys, the coffee's free. What are you waiting for? Come on down and join the community.

Candy Cocktail In honor of our February issue being the month synonymous with Valentine's Day and love, I decided to share a bit more about a show that we all still love. Featuring the world's favorite redhead, I Love Lucy will forever be By Candy Cocktail in a category all its own. There are a number of remarkable, pioneering and downright astonishing facts about the famous show that you may not already know, and they are the reason why 68 years later, we still love Lucy. The American Television sitcom consisted of a total of 180 halfhour episodes spanning across six seasons, including the 'lost' original pilot and Christmas episode. The CBS sitcom received 20 Emmy nominations throughout its six season run. Of those, it won four, including Best Situation Comedy in 1953 & 1955. Lucille Ball won the Best Comedienne Performance category while Vivian Vance won Best Series Supporting Actress.

Tuesday, Oct. 15, is actually National "I Love Lucy" Day, to commemorate the anniversary date when the classic sitcom premiered on CBS in 1951. The popular series starred Lucille Ball with her real-life husband Desi Arnaz, in addition to Vivian Vance and William Frawley as their next door neighbors. Not only was the series entertaining and full of laughs, but it revolutionized television. It was certainly ahead of its time. After a successful stint as a New York model, Lucille Ball came to Hollywood and gained regular employment at RKO Radio Pictures where she also had a reputation for doing physical comedy and stunts that other actresses avoided. In 1940, Lucy met Desi Arnaz, a Cuban bandleader who had just come off a successful run in the 1939-40 Broadway show, Too Many Girls. RKO had bought the film rights to the show and cast Ball as Arnaz's love interest in the pictur e, as cited on Wikipedia. The duo began a whirlwind courtship leading to their elopement in Connecticut in November of 1940.

18

FEBRUARY 2020

Before and during World War II, Lucy made several successful guest appearances on numerous radio programs, which brought her to the attention of CBS, who asked Ball to star in one of two new half-hour comedies in development, Our Miss Brooks and My Favorite Husband. She chose My Favorite Husband which in 1950, Ball was asked to take to television with co-star Richard Denning, but she saw a television show as the perfect opportunity to work with Desi.

I Love Lucy showed inclusivity and diversity by showing the marriage of two people of different nationalities, one of which was not American born. Lucy having a Cuban immigrant husband on primetime TV was not common in 1950s society, yet the Ricardo's multiethnic household made for great laughs. In 1950, Lucille Ball fought to have Arnaz, her real life husband, play the role of her fictional spouse by refusing to do the show if he was not part of it. CBS was apprehensive about the choice of an American woman marrying a Hispanic immigrant until she, Arnaz and writer/producer Jess Oppenheimer, created a stage version of the show and performed it live in front of an audience at a local New York City theater. The feedback was outstanding and CBS had no choice but to give in. It premiered with lots of love and zero backlash. The show was the first for many things; the first scripted television program to be shot on 35mm film in front of a studio audience. Shooting on 35mm was expensive at the time. It was the first show to feature an ensemble cast. According to Emmys.com, not only talented as a comedian & entertainer, Arnaz was also a technical wizard. He is credited for helping to create the multi-camera production that sitcoms still use today, as well as using film instead of kinescope - the reason why I Love Lucy still looks crystal clear to this day. Modern-day audiences might find it unusual that the main characters are seen smoking cigarettes throughout each episode. Times were different and 'lighting up' was mandatory because when the show was having trouble getting sponsors in its early days, tobacco giant Philip Morris signed on. The company required the

www.GulfCoastMotorSports.com

characters to smoke its cigarettes and even mention its name whenever possible. Ball preferred Chesterfield cigarettes so she eventually had production assistants put Chesterfields in Philip Morris tins for her. I Love Lucy became the most watched show in the United States for four of its six seasons. It was the first to end the series still at the top of the Nielsen ratings, an achievement only matched by The Andy Griffith Show in 1968 and Seinfeld in 1998. In a recent MeTV poll, viewers voted that their favorite episode was "Lucy Does a TV Commercial" which shows Lucy accidentally getting drunk as she takes swigs of a vitamin tonic that apparently has a very high alcohol content.

It was once said that Ball performed better with a larger audience. Some sitcoms have artificial laugh tracks they play during funny scenes, but Lucy had no gimmicks; the laughter on each episode is completely real. A live studio audience of 300 people would visit the studio for the live recording each week. During the grape barrel stomping episode, Lucy almost died during filming. She was actually choking on a grape, but kept filming until the cameras cut and the crew ran over to help her. Some also may be shocked to learn that everyone's favorite redhead was actually a brunette. Lucy's natural hair color was brown, but she dyed it red in 1942, which quite suited her because she continued to dye it the same shade of red until her death in 1989. Just before filming, Lucy and Desi learned that Lucy was once again pregnant (after multiple miscarriages earlier in their marriage) with their first child, Lucie Arnaz. They filmed the original pilot while Lucy was "showing", but did not include any references to the pregnancy. This was because CBS thought that talk of pregnancy might be in bad taste. Later, during the second season, Lucy was pregnant again with their second child, Desi Arnaz Jr., and this time the pregnancy was incorporated into the series' storyline. When Lucy announced she was pregnant with Little Ricky, she was not allowed to say she was "pregnant" as network censors said it was too "vulgar." Absolutely astonishing considering today we have TV shows like 15 and Pregnant glorifying unmarried teenage pregnancy, but in the 1950s a married woman could not be called pregnant on primetime television. “Expecting was the substitute term used for her pregnancy. She was "expecting," and to ensure standards stayed high, priests, pastors and rabbis were on set during filming of all the scenes of Lucy's pregnancy. It is often noted that Lucy's visible pregnancy was the first shown on TV, but some say the first on-screen pregnancy actually belonged to Mary Kay on the 1940s sitcom Mary Kay and Johnny. However according to my research, on this series the pregnancy was never mentioned, which still makes Lucy first to acknowledge pregnancy. The episode when Lucy delivers earned the show its highest ever episode rating. To increase the publicity of this episode, the original air date was chosen to coincide with Lucille Ball's real-life delivery of Desi Jr. by

scheduled Caesarean section. "Lucy Goes to the Hospital" was watched by more people than any other television program up to that time, with 71.7% of all American television sets tuned in, topping the 67.7% rating for the inauguration of President Dwight D. Eisenhower which aired the following morning.

Lucille Ball appeared on the first ever issue of TV Guide next to her newborn son, Desi Arnaz, Jr. From there the comedic legend went on to appear 38 additional times, more than any other person. The Editorchoice website described how after their new baby was born, Desi Arnaz wanted to make sure that Lucille had the rest and sleep she needed as a new mother and both stars did not come into work. The TV network had no choice but to run an old episode of I Love Lucy since they did not have a new episode that week. Just like that, the first rerun was born. Notably, during the entire series Lucy and Desi never put their real kids in front of the TV camera. Ball and Arnaz became the first millionaire TV stars. The last episode aired on May 6, 1957. The show was later followed by The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour, which was a collection of thirteen black-and-white one-hour specials that occasionally aired from 1957 to 1960. Following the series' end, Ball and Arnaz starred in two films together; The Long, Long Trailer and Forever, Darling. After their divorce, Ball assumed all control over Desilu, the couple's production company, making her the first woman to run a mainstream major television studio on her own. I Love Lucy was one of the first shows to realize the potential of merchandising. Ball and Arnaz authorized various types of I Love Lucy merchandise. In 1952 I Love Lucy dolls were sold, which were similar in look to a baby doll. Then red checkered, adult size I Love Lucy pajamas were produced and even a replica bedroom set so you could live like Lucy was sold for only $198. Dell Comics even created 35 issues of an I Love Lucy comic book distributed between 1954 and 1962. Episodes of the series have been syndicated into dozens of languages around the world and still have an American audience of 49 million each year. Even this past Christmas season, the colorized version of the I Love Lucy Christmas episode aired on CBS to millions of viewers. For avid fans of show, there was a Lucy statue placed in Celoron, New York in 2009. In 1991 the series became the very first inductee into the Television Academy Hall of Fame. The series has never truly disappeared from the public view. It has been running almost daily somewhere in the world for the past 60 years! It is estimated that with more than 68 years since its premiere, I Love Lucy still earns 20 million per year for CBS from syndication and DVD sales. This makes it evident that the ground breaking series from the 50s remains loved around the world. Its timeless magic and unforgettable moments have us all still laughing, and in love with I Love Lucy.

Welcome back everyone! I hope you all had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!! WELL, do you all know what time it is? IT'S TIME TO START TALKING ABOUT RACING AGAIN!!! Just kidding…we never stop talking about racing around here! This month I'm going to tell you all about a race related “off season” thing we got going on! Here we go… As most of you know, we haul our car around on an open trailer. The trailer we have now was part of the package when we purchased our first car for Chase's 14th birthday. It definitely was in need of some TLC, but repurposing junk metal just so happens to be my specialty! I honestly debated for days about hauling it off to the scrapyard and starting from scratch to build us a new trailer! After several days of changing my mind back and forth, I finally decided to bring it back to life! So, Chase and I stripped it down, my brother Wayne and I repaired and redesigned the main frame, our friend Jamie Luzenberg blasted and painted it, and we then finished it off with some fresh new sheet metal skins! Upon completion, we now own one of the coolest little open trailers around! There's seldom a time that we go to a racetrack that we don't have someone (usually multiple people) come over and tell us how cool our little trailer is! I think the spread axle is what really sets it off! We love our trailer!!! Anyway… SO…here's our situation… As our racing team has continued to grow, so has our cargo! We went from hauling around a few hand tools, a jack, and a couple of spare tires…to now we basically carry a mobile race shop, complete with traditional and power tools, an air compressor, tire groovers, grinders, and breakers, sheet metal shears, pop-rivets, (in assorted sizes and colors) a full assortment of sprays, lubes, and filters and basically a whole backup car (minus the chassis) stripped down and strategically placed in our toolboxes! It's INSANE!!! Also, we plan to travel more in the next few seasons, and potentially stay multiple days at a racetrack. Just a couple reasons why we see the need to go to an enclosed trailer design. I hate the thought of selling our little open trailer, but while being on the road and/or at the track, we often encounter all sorts of weather situations! It would really be nice if our car was high and dry inside the trailer! Not to mention, I'm always nervous when we stop somewhere and have to leave the car in a parking lot while we aren't around! Someone could easily steal and or vandalize our car and trailer! And let's don't forget the obvious…we are in need of a bigger trailer

FEBRUARY 2020

anyway you look at it to fit our expanding racing team! So…Can I build us a new one? YES I CAN! Then what's the big deal you ask? Well, it gets complicated as I sort through the pros and cons of a bigger/ enclosed trailer! Our motorhome that we use for racing/towing can only pull 7500lbs according to the manufacturer. We are currently pulling around 6800-7000lbs now with the open trailer. That only allows us an additional 500-700lbs more before we are at maximum towing capacity. Our open trailer (completely empty) weighs 2740lbs, so I need to find something with a similar weight that fits our needs. Sounds easy enough! Y'all!!!...I have searched the interweb inside and out and researched every brand of trailer on the market within the last 15 years, trying to find what we need! I know what some of you are probably already thinking, “he needs to look at all aluminum construction”…I already did! I was ready to pull the trigger on a FINE looking 24ft all aluminum construction, enclosed (race prepped) trailer by Sundowner trailers, and that plan came to a screeching halt as I found out that the curb weight (completely empty) was 4900lbs!!! UNREAL!!! That won't work!!! The search continues! Anyways…I could go on and on, but I think you get the picture. By the time you all are reading this, one of these three things have probably happened… 1. Either…I have decided to “keep on keeping on” with the open trailer! 2. Or…I have found and ordered the perfect new racing trailer! 3. Or…I have started building us a new/bigger open trailer! Whatever we decide, I will be sure to share with you all next month! As most of you already know, Chase is currently 16 years old and he is in the 2nd half of his Junior year at D'Iberville High School! Adrian and I are realizing daily that our little guy is rapidly growing up! That makes us sad! We are very proud of the young man Chase is shaping up to be! Chase, being the charming little fella he is, has figured out that he can use his charm (along with our sadness of seeing him so grown up) as a way of getting what he wants! What does he want you ask??? He wants to race… A LOT!!! He hopes to race Friday and Saturday night throughout the next 2 seasons! He hopes to travel for some BIG shows at some out of state tracks! He wants to race at least one race this season with the USMTS racing series! We are going to do our best to let him chase his dreams for the next 2 racing seasons because you all know that after you hit 18 years old, life gets real!!! He's a great kid though! Y'all please pray for his safety as he continues to climb the ranks in the modifieds! We are also still openly searching for him a ride in other classes each weekend to add to his experience as a racer! He wants to drive a crate late model, but we haven't had any luck yet finding him a ride. We aren't giving up though, like I keep telling Chase, every “famous racer” was just like him at some time in their lives! All it takes is an opportunity and then it will be up to him to capitalize on it! No matter what, I should have plenty of new content to write about soon! Thank you all for following along! I know I sound like a broken record sometimes but I'm going to say it again…WE COULDN'T DO THIS WITH OUT YOU ALL!!! We really appreciate all of our fans, our racing friends and especially our awesome sponsors! We Thank you! Until next time…Chavus
