Cruizin’ in the passin’ lane By: Jimbo Gulf Coast MotorSports set up the Hot Rod Alley tent at the Burning up the Beaches car show in Ft. Walton, Fla. This show was for the kids (Horizons) and the turnout was huge. Donna and the Horizons team had to shut down the on-line registration early because they had almost sold all the parking lot spots. She didn’t want to overbook and as we all know, some people will just show up the day of the show. And they did! Saturday you couldn’t fit another car in the lot. Looks like they will be expanding next year. Gulfport is all a buzz about the “Power Tour” making a stop here June 11th. Jones Park and Centennial Plaza will be the place to be if you want to see all the cars/trucks vendors etc. HOT ROD Power Tour is the largest road trip in the world, with several thousand cars traveling to seven cities in seven days with great stops and cruise nights along the way that include massive amounts of manufacturer booths and local hot rods. The 21st running of Power Tour in 2015 is from June 6-13, starting in Madison, Wisconsin, and ending in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on a route that includes highways and winding back roads. Gearheads can join in at any point along the way; the exclusive Long Haul Gang includes the people who take the entire Power Tour route along with the staff of HOT ROD. Participants can sightsee, explore, and show off their cars in towns along the way and in each participating city, and spectators are free to come look at the massive Power Tour cruise scene every night! This is dedicated to all of us who are seniors, to all of you who know seniors, and to all of you who will become seniors. WHERE is my SUNDAY paper?!" The irate customer calling the newspaper office, loudly demanded to know where her Sunday edition was. "Madam", said the newspaper employee, "today is Saturday. The Sunday paper is not delivered until tomorrow, on SUNDAY". There was quite a long pause on the other end of the phone, followed by a ray of recognition by the employee as she was heard to mutter, .... "Well crap!, that explains why there was no one at church this morning!" You may have noticed the last few months I’ve posted a flyer for “Happy-Daze” June 26-28 at the Dragstrip. Truth is it’s a party, 3 days of camping, cook-outs, 60’s, 70’s & 80’s music., live local bands, vintage campers, trucks, vans & cars are all welcome. It’s not a car show but lot’s of folks will be showing off their stuff. And some of it will be for sale. We have a chance to make this an annual weekend event. And all you have to do is show up and have a good time. Bring stuff and set up a tent, let’s have a party. There will be NO racing during the event. Local bands, Rochelle Harper, Myles Sharp, Gospel Rock will be there and The Boogie Van will keep things rockin’. I had to go to court the other day and was lucky enough to sit in on this exchange of words between a trucking company's lawyer who was questioning a local Swedish fella named Ole. "Didn't you say, sir, at the scene of the accident, 'I'm fine'?" asked the lawyer. Ole responded, "Vell, I tell ewe vat happened.

Ole said, "Vell, I yust got Bessie into the trailer and I was driving down the road..." The lawyer interrupted again and said, "Judge, I am trying to establish the fact that, at the scene of the accident, this man told the Minnesota Highway Patrolman on the scene that he was just fine. Now, several weeks after the accident, he is trying to sue my client. I believe he is a fraud. Please tell him to simply answer the question." the lawyer insisted. By this time, the Judge was fairly interested in Ole's answer and said to the lawyer, "I'd like to hear what he has to say about his favorite mule, Bessie." Ole thanked the Judge and proceeded. "Vell as I vas saying, I had yust loaded Bessie, my favorite mule, into da trailer and vas driving her down da highvay ven dis huge semi-truck and trailer ran da stop sign and smacked my truck right in da side. I vas trown into one ditch and Bessie vas trown into da udder.” “I vas hurting real bad and didn't vant to move. However, I could hear Bessie moaning and groaning. I knew she was in terrible shape just by her groans. Shortly after da accident da Minniesoda Highway Patrolman came to da scene. He could hear Bessie moaning and groaning, so he vent over to her. After he looked at her, and saw her fatal condition, he took out his gun and shot her right 'tween da eyes." "Den the Patrolman came across da road, gun still in his hand, looked at me and said, ‘How are you feeling?'" "Now vat da hell vould EWE say?" I had to leave the room so I’m not sure what happened to the Sweed but, I could still hear the judge banging his gavel and yelling “Order in the Court, Order in the Court” Ok; e-mail time Hey Jimbo, I just spoke with you about helping us find an old Ford Bronco for our wedding in Ocean Springs Ms. August 1, 2015. Jimbo, Cubby put a good article in the May 2015 issue of "MotorSports Magazine," but some have asked me why only one picture was included with the article. I told the guys that I didn't know, and they suggested that I send the attached pics to you ... only I didn't have a model, so only the car will be viewed. This car is a 1948 Cadillac Fleetwood Sixty Special that's only been partially restored. It began its life in Florida and was sold to a B-17 crew member a few years after the war. He moved to San Antonio, Texas and kept the old girl until she was mature. Due to failing health, he sold it to a doctor who was a collector. After a few more years, the doctor's wife told him that he wasn't getting any younger and he needed to get rid of a couple of his vehicles (he was working on a '56 Corvette and a '57 Chevy) and he sold this Caddie to my wife and me in 2013. Since we bought the Caddie, we've had the transmission rebuilt (thanks Mr. Curtis at Buchanan's), bodywork and paint (thanks Bummer at Suddeth's), glass and other mechanical (thanks John Hans at Busted Wrench), interior (thanks John at Performance Upholstery, and chrome work (thanks Scenic Perfection) done. The old Caddie still needs a few other things done, but she's a nice driver. Have a great one and keep on Cruizin'. Mike Lamberth Coast Cruizers (Continued from page 3)
Jimbo, I know a lot of your readers might be interested to know that South Australian vintners in the Barossa Valley area, which primarily produce Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir and Pinot Grigio wines, have developed a new hybrid grape that acts as an anti-diuretic!? It is expected to reduce the number of trips older people have to make to the toilet during the night.? The new wine will be marketed as? PINO MORE? Jimbo, Roscoe and Joe Bob were talking one afternoon when Roscoe tells Joe Bob, "Ya know, I reckon I'm 'bout ready for a vacation. Only this year 'em gonna do it a little different. The last few years, I took your advice about where to go. Three years ago, you said to go to Myrtle Beach. I went to Myrtle Beach, and Earlene got pregnant. Then two years ago, you told me to go to Daytona Beach, and Earlene got pregnant again. Last year, you suggested Richmond, VA, the Capitol of the Confederacy and darned if Earlene didn't get pregnant again." So Joe Bob asks, what you gonna do this year that's different?" Roscoe says, "This year, I'm taking Earlene with me." gptteebyrd@
Jimbo, A Lexus mechanic was removing a cylinder head from the motor of a LS460 when he spotted a well-known cardiologist in his shop. The cardiologist was there waiting for the service manager to come and take a look at his car when the mechanic shouted across the garage, "Hey Doc, want to take a look at this? The cardiologist, a bit surprised, walked over to where the mechanic was working. The mechanic straightened up, wiped his hands on a rag and asked, "So Doc, look at this engine. I opened its heart, took the valves out, repaired or replaced anything damaged, and then put everything back in, and when I finished, it worked just like new. So how is it that I make $48,000 a year and you make $1.7 million when you and I are doing basically the same work? The cardiologist paused, leaned over and whispered to the mechanic, “Try doing it with the engine running." Vic seaytrucking@ Jimbo, One day an old man goes into a pharmacy, reaches into his pocket and takes out a small bottle and a teaspoon laying them on the counter. He asking the pharmacist, “Could you taste this for me, please?” Being a senior citizen, the pharmacist went along, taking the spoon with a tiny dab of the liquid, puts it in his mouth swills the liquid around and with a grimacing look spits it out in a cup. “Now does that taste sweet to you.” says the old man? The pharmacist said to the old man. “Heck no!”

“Oh that's a relief,” said the old man. “The doctor told me to come here and get my urine tested for sugar." Jimbo, I was filling out an employment application the other day and one of the blanks asked who is to be notified in case of an emergency. I think you should write, “A Good Doctor”! That got me to thinking about old age and decided that old age is “when you still have something on the ball, but you are just too tired to bounce it.” As I was sitting there waiting for my interview I noticed most of the people were talking on their status symbol of today, those cell phones. Seems everyone has one clipped onto their belt or purse. I can't afford one. So, I'm wearing my garage door opener. I also made a cover for my hearing aid and now I have what they call blue teeth, I think. Soon it was my turn to go into the interview room. There behind the desk was a kid that looked at me as if I had B.O. or something. Truth is, I spent a fortune on deodorant before I realized that people didn't like me anyway. As I sat down this kid wanted to know if I had any ideas that would make some money for the company. So I said. “I think that women should put pictures of missing husbands on beer cans! Or how about making a fitness movie for folks my age, and call it “Pumping Rust”. He just sort of stared at me then asked if I had any ailments. I said “I've gotten that dreaded furniture disease. That's when your chest is falling into your drawers!” He just said “if anything becomes available they would call, but there was no need to sit by the phone.” So I went home, unemployed… then I answered a knock at my door. A new pastor of our local church was standing there so I invited him in. Why is it when people see a cat's litter box, they always say, “Oh, have you got a cat?” Just once I want to say, “No, it's for company!” Our new pastor ask me why it seemed people read the Bible a whole lot more as they get older. I told him “That’s because they were cramming for their finals.. As for me, I'm just hoping God grades on the curve. jimmiebell37

I received a few replies back from the po-boy article in last months magazine. Jay in the pass said his favorite place was pirates cove and the roast beef po-boy. Then there was Debbie that like the shrimp po-boy form Ben's Deli. I agree with that. Move a few streets north and Elmo likes the shrimp poboy at the store on 34th street, he didn't leave a name, I know where he is talking about. It's about 5 blocks west of 8th Ave. One that hasn't been talked about is Little Ray's. It has been a few years since I have been there. Didn't hear anything from Biloxi on the po-boys I am sure there are some good places there. The Coast Cruizers are going on a dinner cruise up in Stone County at the end of the month. I will report on what the people think about it. I have been there before and it was good. I also heard that the restaurant that was on highway 43 between Kiln and Picayune had opened up again. It was the one that sat on a pond and served catfish, don't remember the name. It has been close for a while. I will check on it and report back. Check next month's magazine for the dinner cruise results. Till I hear from everybody and we eat again. J. R. My e-mail address is: james.f.roberts@att.net
Jimbo, Being broke and stuck in an unhappy marriage, a young husband decided to solve both problems by taking out a large insurance policy on his wife with himself as the beneficiary and then arranging to have her killed. A 'friend of a friend' Put him in touch with a nefarious dark-side underworld figure who went by the name of 'Artie.' Artie explained to the husband that his going price for snuffing out a spouse was $ 10,000. The Husband said he was willing to pay that amount but that he wouldn't have any cash on hand until he could collect his wife's insurance money. Artie insisted on being paid at least something up front, so the man opened his wallet, displaying the single dollar bill that rested inside. Artie sighed, rolled his eyes and reluctantly agreed to accept the dollar as down payment for the dirty deed.
www.GulfCoastMotorSports.com
A few Days later, Artie followed the man's wife to the local Wal-Mart Supermarket.. There, he surprised her in the produce department and proceeded to strangle her with his gloved hands. As the poor unsuspecting woman drew her last breath and slumped to the floor, the manager of the produce department stumbled unexpectedly onto the murder scene. Unwilling to leave any living witnesses behind, ol' Artie had no choice but to strangle the produce manager as well. However, Unknown to Artie, the entire proceedings were captured by the hidden security cameras and observed by the shop's security guard, who immediately called the police. Artie was caught and arrested before he could even leave The premises. Under intense Questioning at the police station, Artie revealed the whole sordid plan, including his unusual financial arrangements with the hapless husband who was also quickly arrested. The next day in the Newspaper, the headline declared... (You're going to hate me for this...) 'ARTIE CHOKES 2 for $1.00 at Wal-Mart tstauffer6@
The Cole Report After last nights Fremeaux mall cruise-in today was another big one, the Biloxi VA show. Great weather for this one, got a little warm in the middle of the day. The Biloxi Beach Cruisers had a great turnout of 216 cars/trucks/rats. The money raised was for the veterans recreational program. Local Boy Scout troop served us hamburgers/hotdogs, and good music played in the background. That evenings cruise-in was with the Misfit Street Krewzers down in Bay St. Louis. They also had a good turnout and fun was had by all. Here are a few pics of Fremeaux, VA show and Misfits cruise-in. I followed that up with a Friday cruise-in to Boyington nursing/ rehab center. They had good food for the cruisers and the residences loved seeing the cars and visiting with us.

Jimbo, I finished the T at 1:30 last Friday morning.. loaded it on the trailer.. slept 3 hours and hauled it to Wilmington Ohio that day for the East Coast Timing Association first race of the year! The car passed tech but I didn't! I could not get out of the car quickly and consistently enough with the Hahns device and the 5 layer fire suit to be safe... the helmet is an extra inch thick in the top and I kept hanging up in the car so we decided not to try to go fast in an "untested car with just a few street miles on it" so we will wait and get some bugs worked out before we attempt to set any records. The Inspiration I was at the Bonneville salt flats with my street driven 1933 Ford Coupe that I had an official speed of 184 MPH with while they were filming the movie the "Worlds Fastest Indian" starring Anthony Hopkins. I was always intrigued by Burt Munro and how he took his old Indian motorcycle that he bought in the 20's that came with a LANTERN on it that he eventually ran 200 MPH with it at Bonneville! I had always been interested in T model coupes (T coupes were nicknamed "Doctors Coupe's" because they were built so tall that doctors could wear their tall hats inside the car!!!) So I came up with the idea to build the worlds fastest Model T Coupe similar to what Burt did!! There are lots of T roadster bodys that have gone super fast but I couldn't find any that were faster than Gene Winfields Coupe "The Thing" that ran around 140 MPH. So I searched for a T coupe for two years (I even went to Oklahoma looking for one) finally someone local found this one, a member of the local T club wanted the engine and drive train but didn't want the body because it was just to far gone to restore... I will attest to that!! But it seemed perfect for what I wanted it so... 2 years and 4 months later I believe I have built the Worlds Fastest Model T Coupe!! It's tagged and insured and has an original 1926 TN plate and see's some street use... it has two big turbo's sitting on 468 C.I. motor and runs on E85 fuel (105 octane ethanol) It has a very tall 2.47 ratio rear gear and with 30 inch tall tire rear tires. It has a 15 gal fuel cell in back that feeds an old Eelco tank mounted in the front of the car that in turn feeds a belt drive fuel pump. The turbo's spool around 4500 rpm and the fun begins!! It is chopped 9 inches in the B and C pillars and 10.5 in the A pillar that gives it a little rake towards the front. It has a tube chassis that is built to the S.C.T.A rule specifications and it sits on an air ride system that allows it to be lowered as much as possible to keep it out of the wind at speed. I will post speeds as we continue with this challenge!! I can only wonder what Henry Ford would think of this T.... a T with a data logger and a parachute to slow it down... that sits about 38 inches tall!!! Mike Warren kooptupracing@gmail.com

We started out early Thursday morning and made it to the host Hotel the Marriott, late that evening. The hotel was beautiful and the staff went out of their way to make you feel welcome. Early Friday morning Chicken Willie and I were at the Beaman Gate to check registration and welcome the cars in. The show is at the Chilhowee Park and Expo Center. The park is divided by a very busy street that is in the middle of the park, but it is very unique as it has a tunnel under the road to unite it. There were 1987 registered cars. The venders were set up inside, and there was lots to look at. Outside there were covered sheds, and that was where the swap meet was. The Ladies were taken care of too. Woman's World was upstairs, and lots of shopping was going on. This show was at a beautiful setting, lots of hills and large pond. Plenty to do for everyone. May 9th was the Mississippi Gulf Coast Beach Cruisers Veteran show. They had a beautiful day with a large turn out to support our veterans. The Boy Scouts cooked us lunch, the hamburgers were very good. There were lots of awards and a large 50/50 pot. I also presented the NSRA show award to Ray Michot Jr. He was in his 48 Ford Super Deluxe Sedan, that he built. He had a 23 inspection on his very beautiful car.

The safety of your street rod is of vital importance. If the street rod does not meet a certain set of guidelines, an accident can cause more than just replacing the parts. The NSRA or National Street Rod Association is the organization doing the safety inspections. Keep in mind that these safety inspections are completely voluntary. In most cases, safety inspections can be done at many of the street rod shows around the country. Generally, when a safety inspection is done, it is good for one year. http://www.streetrod101.com/safety-inspection.html

There is something about attending a car show in a smaller town than I live in. it’s a different pace. Akin to a church social but with the ol’ town atmosphere. I see the chairs sitting in their usual place but they are empty. At least most of them. People are up and visiting one another. Might be because they know one another or just maybe they have the ability to walk up and say “hello”.
I went to the 10th annual Pebble Bluff Creek Car Show April 25th. This car show is just one way the town shows their First Responders some appreciation for what they do. Fifty-some cars/trucks and motorcycles took a chance on the impending rain to attend. Someone must have had some pull because the weather was beautiful during the show. ( the bottom fell out soon after the awards were handed out.) somehow the rain seems to shows up on the weekends. In most cases as they say, “the show must go on”. Hat’s off to Deanna Cole Bickham and the crew for putting on a really great show and I look forward to next years 11th annual Pebble Bluff Creek Car Show. ……….. Jimbo
A cool ride of a different sort. Bradford-O’keefe 150 years on the Coast brought this to the show.

May 9 2015 Beautiful sunrise this morning in route to the V.A. Benefit car show at the Biloxi V.A. Over 200 cars in attendance a really great turnout. Was a little warm but at times there were a few clouds that gave us some well needed shade. Awards were presented at 3 pm and everyone then said their good byes, and see you down the road soons. Good food was served up by the local Boy Scout troop. The Beach Cruisers, I would say put on a heck of a show. The Misfits were once again well represented at this one as well. Took a few random shots and had a good time meeting new folks. Ride em if you got em’ folks, you will enjoy. Later,... and hope to see you down the road somewhere. Gizmo.

urning Up The Beaches 2015 was a huge success! Aided by the most perfect weather to be on the sugar white beaches and emerald green waters, each aspect of the weekend was PERFECT! The event raised over $35,000 for Horizons, the ARC of the Emerald Coast, caring for over 400 citizens with Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy and other intellectual and developmental disabilities. The 3 day event reached a max capacity for its show day venue, and its organizers are currently working on expanding its boundaries so that more can experience its great value and "the fun one" reputation! Attendees came from literally all over the US, a total of 15 states, including New York, Illinois, Kentucky and Missouri. The larger than ever crowd created just a couple of hiccups, such as long lines to pick up packets, but our Pit Crew promises to clear all of that up for 2016! We are already working on making next year EVEN Better, if thats possible! Our goal will forever be to provide you the best value, most fun filled weekend with friends you can find on the circuit, all the while letting you know up close just who your dollars support. There is always that one car at a show that catches your eye. Such was the 1956 Cadillac Eldorado that George Dillon, of Old Town, Fla., drove into the show. My first reaction was what a great restoration to a very classy car. Imagine my surprise when I found out that this was a completely un-restored beauty. Everything original right down to the “first time offered” vinyl top. Originally bought in Minnesota 1956, George and his wife found the car in Missouri. Only seventy-six thousand miles on the odometer. An unbelievable find! So they made a deal and drove the car home. Here is a beautiful, very rare 1956 Cadillac Eldorado Seville Coupe that is one of a total production of only 3,900 cars! No single automotive design better characterizes the industry's 1950's flamboyance than the 1956 Cadillac Eldorado! This beauty has been pampered it’s whole life and it shows! This is a true survivor Cadillac and in my opinion "One of the nicest unrestored ’56 Cadillac Eldorado Seville’s today". This car is a true survivor and its condition backs it up 100 Percent! …..jimbo

Two words describe Burning Up The Beaches Car Show in Ft Walton Beach Florida. SOLD-OUT! They had to start turning away cars mid-week because they ran out of spots to put them. We woke up early on Friday morning, ate breakfast and headed over to the storage building to hook up the Hot Rod Show Trailer and get on the road. On this trip was our 15 year old granddaughter Kaley. Kaley is going to have a good time regardless and we always have a good time when she comes along. The 3 hour trip was flawless, (when pulling a trailer, always make sure your cold air pressure is perfect in the vehicle and trailer before you start out.) We arrived at The Boardwalk around noon and began setting up the Hot Rod Show Trailer and the remote speaker placement to be ready for Saturday. We actually played music the rest of the day Friday on automatic, just to give the show some ambience, most of the show cars were out making their stops. We grabbed lunch and then checked into our hotel, The Ramada which was right next door to the show. The Ramada is an older hotel, well kept with an incredible mountain in the middle of the pool, with waterfalls around it and a bar inside of it. (Go to “Terry Mason’s Hot Rod Show” on Facebook is see and feel this pool with a video and “like us” while you’re there!). Friday night the car show fed and entertained us as we got ready for the Saturday car show. Saturday morning we had breakfast and got ice and headed to the show. We cranked up about 9 with the music. The show cars starts drifting in from their stops around noon and all the space was gone. Between the vendors and the cars the car show was packed. A good car show, we met folks from all around the South. Everyone had a blast. We did trivia and gave away a bunch of other door prizes on the Mega 50/50 tickets. At 4pm we gave away the Mega 50/50 Jackpot, the total jackpot was over $3,300 dollars. The sponsor awards were handed out and then it was time to head over to The Swamp for the evening meal provided by Burning Up The Beaches…the drawdown, door prizes and the entertainment. A great way to end a great car show experience. Sunday morning we were up at 7am, met my brother Ken and his wife Linda for breakfast at the Donut Hole in Destin. A place they line out the door every day for really good food. After breakfast we headed back to the hotel to load up the truck and check out of the hotel. We went next door and hooked up the Hot Rod Show Trailer so we were ready to hit the road. Scotty and Kaley wanted to spend some time at the pool, so we went to the pool and hung out about an hour and a half before we got caught and was asked to leave! You see we travel with our Yorkie, Maxie. The pool rules said no animals in the pool or on deck. So being the thinker I am, I thought well if Maxie is in her stroller, she is not in the pool or on the deck. So we set up on the side where she was in the shade and we were in the sun…and like I said it worked well for about an hour and a half until the guy checking the pool for PH balance saw her and said she had to go. My argument that she wasn’t in the pool or on the deck didn’t go very far and we didn’t argue with him. Turns out we got all the sun we needed. Time we got back to town, got the Hot Rod Show Trailer washed and put away, got home and everything unloaded and put away, we figured out we got plenty of sun. You know when you can feel the heat in your skin and a little bit of chills that let you know you got plenty of sun. Talking with Donna Tashik with Burning Up The Beaches on the Monday after the event, they have some good problems to work out for next year and some decisions to be made. Being out of space is a dilemma, but The Boardwalk venue in Ft Walton Beach is awesome. Having to turn show cars away is unacceptable, so the team is already at work on how to solve the problem. The answer may be the first ones to register will get to park in the main area, with the Johnny-come-lately’s left to overflow parking. So whatever they decide, I would advise you to get your registration in as early as you can for the 2016 event. The show is as good as it gets for a car show and as the word gets out about this year’s show…there will be more cars next year. There are good car shows and ones not as good…but the old saying about fishing is also true for car shows… “A bad day of fishing is better than a good day at work”, so get that Hot Rod out of the garage and enjoy that 17 FOREVER Hot Rod state of mind, you’ll meet some of the greatest folks in the world at a car show! til next month…

The Little Red Fire Truck On Sunday May 3, 2015 I was fortunate to meet Gary Barnett, the proud owner of a 1929 Model A Ford pickup truck. This is a vehicle that will definitely attract your attention! Gary Barnett lives in Gas City, Indiana, which is a far distance from where this car show was held, in Plainfield, Indiana. This is a delightful man and I enjoyed talking with him about his truck. This vehicle was not manufactured to be a fire vehicle, but the tasteful additions to this truck makes one think that Ford should have explored this option. This square back cab features a four cylinder (24 horsepower) engine with a 3 speed transmission. This was a frame off restoration. The added features such as the siren, the bell, the “Chief” logo, the extinguisher, the fire axe, and especially the Dalmatian make this a truly unique vehicle. Gary arrived early for the Cruisin’ for a Cure car show. As you can see Cubby’s Porta-Party was there to cover the occasion for “Gulf Coast MotorSports” Magazine. The show was originally scheduled for April 25, but was rained out and rescheduled to May 3. The rain date turned out to be a gorgeous day, lots of outstanding cars showed up, and funds were raised in the amount of $6700 for the American Cancer Society. I could write a hundred stories about what went on at the show, but I wanted to focus on this pristine pickup at this time. Until next time I…

Dirt Track Memories by: Larry Dunham
I’m cruising down Beach Blvd in Gulfport, MS, and Johnny Ray comes on the radio singing “Little White Clouds That Cry”. Doesn’t get any better than that. Salem, Oregon was my home town, and 18 miles south and west of Salem was Dallas. Oregon. That’s where Johnny Ray lived in the 30’s & 40’s. We (the guys I ran around with) thought he was a little goofy, because he would be in the local restaurant, (coffee shop) put a quarter in the juke box and sing out loud along with the music. Little did we know this goofy guy was to make millions of $, and write & sing songs that are still played today. His big bucks were made in Australia they tell me, and I understand he was very big time for many years until he died. Well next month, July 2015 is my birthday, and I will be 50 years old for the 38rd time. To make my buddy in New Zealand (Gordon McIsaac) happy, I’m going to write a little about the INDY 500, back in 1956. When you raced Midgets as I did in the 1940’s and 1950’s the goal was to run the INDY 500! The same body style was used for Midgets, Sprints, and Indy cars. Each class was wider and longer, so you started in the little ones and worked your way up. (if you were good enough). To get the opportunity to take the test at Indy you had to have three current drivers of Indy recommend you as capable. Johnny Parson, Johnny Tolan and Johnny Mantz were all race driver friends of mine and were giving me the o.k. to be tested. The next step was to get a car owner to give you the “ride” if you were capable. Edgar Elder, Billy Garrett, Don Edmonds, and myself were going to take drivers tests in Ernie Casale’s #41 which Troy Ruttman had won the “500” in it when it belonged to J.C. Aggaganian a few years back. This was one of the last dirt cars to make the INDY 500. Edgar went out first and as he would go into the turns the rear would break loose & it would try to spin out. As I mentioned in a previous article a year or so ago, I went over to Ernie the owner and told him “I’m going to jack a “ton” (figure of speech) in the left rear for Billy when he goes out.” Edgar, Don, Billy and I all ran the same circuit in California and Billy was current URA champion and also a good friend and I was also helping myself. I jacked the weight in it and out he went, and was the only car picking up the left front wheel in the corners. He turned 140 mph average that day and got hired on the spot before Don or myself got to test. Ernie was happy! I raced against and knew Jim Hurtibise a fellow midget driver, and they tell me a few years later he took a Indy Roadster with a Chevy in it and was picking up the left front in the corners, and I wonder if he was watching that day! So much for the track, now we go to “Mates White Front” bar & grill down from the track, where everyone went if 16th St Speedway wasn’t running the midgets on the ¼ mile. The girls would come in, 3 or 4 to a car and many times go home in a different car, if you know what I mean.
Margie was from Brownsberg and had a brand new 1956 Chevrolet convertible. I never knew too much about her, but the backseat of that car was leather and in May was nice and warm. I was a little anxious about people being able to see in thru the back side windows even at night. I mentioned it to her; she smiled, got out of the car, opened the trunk and took out two coat hangers with wool sweaters on them. Hang one on each side windows blocking the outside view. I was sure glad she wasn’t wearing one of those sweaters! I had my midget there, ran Anderson, Kokomo, and 16th St. but Margie never came out to them and I never asked why. (maybe the Chevy wasn’t allowed out of town) Don Edmonds got his test the next year, was rookie of the year, and ran the 500. We were very good friends, towed together, and he later built some very good race cars. Billy Garrett quit the midgets and went to the Sprints, Champs, and Indy Cars. I took over the midget that “Farmer Ben” owned and was the #1 car and parked mine at his request until Ben got a new driver. Billy “got her in the fence” smashed his helmet, and his head, and was never normal again. Last I knew he was in a “home” for mentally disabled in Burbank, Calif. Don Edmonds “owned” Balboa Stadium, ¼ mile dirt, to win there you had to beat Don 1st. I never won there. This was San Diego, Ca. I’m still doing Auto Freon Service, and remember “we come to you” home or office. “KEEP IT BETWEEN THE FENCES” Larry Dunham 228-323-1624 Email dirttrackmemories@gmail.com

They say it takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to appreciate them, a day to love them, but then an entire life to forget them. Next month we celebrate our independence. Are you one of those who are willing to give that away? Take the time to read the following words. Freedom isn’t free. There is a cost and it hurts those left behind..
Daddy's Poem Her hair was up in a pony tail, Her favorite dress tied with a bow. Today was Daddy's Day at school, And she couldn't wait to go. But her mommy tried to tell her, That she probably should stay home; Why the kids might not understand, If she went to school alone. But she was not afraid; She knew just what to say. What to tell her classmates Of why he wasn't there today. But still her mother worried, For her to face this day alone. And that was why, once again, She tried to keep her daughter home. But the little girl went to school, Eager to tell them all. About a dad she never sees, a dad Who never calls.
"My Daddy couldn't be here, Because he lives so far away. But I know he wishes he could be, Since this is such a special day.
"I love my daddy very much, he's my shining star. And if he could, he'd be here, But heaven's just too far.
And though you cannot meet him, I wanted you to know All about my daddy, And how much he loves me so.
You see he is an American Soldier And he died just this past year,, When a roadside bomb hit his convoy And taught Americans to fear.
He loved to tell me stories, He taught me to ride my bike; He surprised me with pink roses, And taught me to fly a kite.
But sometimes when I close my eyes, it's like he never went away." And then she closed her eyes, And saw him there that day. And to her mother's amazement, She witnessed with surprise, A room full of daddies and children, All starting to close their eyes.
We used to share fudge sundaes, And ice cream in a cone. And though you cannot see him. I'm not standing here alone. 'Cause my daddy's always with me, Even though we are apart; I know because he told me, He'll forever be in my heart" With that, her little hand reached up, And lay across her chest. Feeling her own heartbeat, Beneath her favorite dress. And from somewhere there in the crowd of dads, Her mother stood in tears. Proudly watching her daughter, Who was wise beyond her years. For she stood up for the love Of a man not in her life. Doing what was best for her, Doing what was a right. And when she dropped her hand back Down, staring straight into the crowd. She finished with a voice so soft, But its message clear and loud.
There were daddies along the wall in Back, for everyone to meet. Children squirming impatiently, Anxious in their seat.
Who knows what they saw before them; Who knows what they felt inside. Perhaps for merely a second, They saw him at her side. "I know you're with me Daddy," to the silence she called out. And what happened next made believers, of those once filled with doubt. Not one in that room could explain it, for each of their eyes had been closed. But there on the desk beside her, was a fragrant long-stemmed pink rose. And a child was blessed, if only for a moment, by the love of her shining star. And given the gift of believing, that heaven is never too far. There must be many children in the same boat as this little girl, thanks to our servicemen and their families for their sacrifice keeping our country free. Until eternity - God Bless PRAY FOR OUR TROOPS!!!
One by one the teacher called On a student from the class. To introduce their daddy, As seconds slowly passed. At last the teacher called her name, Every child turned to stare. Each of them was searching, A man who wasn't there. "Where's her daddy at?" She heard a boy call out. "She probably doesn't have one," Another student dared to shout. And from somewhere near the back, She heard a daddy say, "Looks like another deadbeat dad, Too busy to waste his day." The words did not offend her, As she smiled up at her Mom. And looked back at her teacher, who Told her to go on.. And with hands behind her back, Slowly she began to speak. And out from the mouth of a child, Came words incredibly unique.

Our visit to Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant at the Mansion in Jackson Mississippi to install our Single Color Halo Headlights into the Governor’s 1955 Chevy Nomad. Governor Bryant turning wrenches with Tony Giametta CEO. He was extremely impressed with the look of the halo and the brightness of the main headlight. He was excited about just being able to seeing more of the road now.
So, who is RedLine LumTronix LLC? My brother (Joe) and I, created RedLine LumTronix LLC. From childhood we both had built custom one of a kind cars. When we were growing up our family did not have the money to purchase things beyond what the family needed to meet our bills. This meant if we got a new bike it was Christmas and it was a real treat. My brother and I were some of the best bicycle mechanics ever and took old bike parts and made new bikes from those parts. We even repainted them. I remember once cutting off the forks off another discarded bike and attaching those forks to the forks of our existing bikes to make them into chopper bikes. God only know how dangerous that was, but I bet some of you out there did some of the same things as a kid. From that I remember as a 12 year old buying Hot Rodding magazine and taking the pictures out of magazine and pasting them on the wall next to my bed. We both could not wait until we could drive to purchase our first vehicles. I remember purchasing my first car, a 1965 Dodge Dart. I was a 16 year old earning money from three jobs to support my habit to build a show car. My Dart had a slant 6 engine of which I replaced with a custom performance built 273 with 340 heads, Tarantula manifold, Holly 4 barrel, and a 4 speed transmission. It had a custom made button tuck gold velour interior made by my professional seamstress mother. It had a custom burnt orange paint job with a mechanical flip front. My brother and I did all of our own work except for engine building. My brother purchased a 1968 Cougar of which he also made into a custom show car. He did his own bodywork and he made a front spoiler from another hood to make both the hood and the front lip spoiler look the same, he also custom made his own rear spoiler. After waiting for sometime to get his car painted by our cousin who kept putting him off, his best friend Dennis Smith told him “Why don’t you paint it yourself”. From that point he learned on his own how to do body work and to paint cars. He would setup a visqueen tent in the back yard held up by rope strung between pine trees as a paint booth. When he finished his car it was beautiful which led to other friends wanting him to paint their cars. We the were known for our show cars during high school. Our cars were worth every penny we put into them making them look good and performing just as well, because they

were chick magnets. Between my brother and I we have both owned 4 classic cars each. So, what does this have to do with your company? The 1968 Mustang you see in many pictures Joe, my sons and I built. Most of you car builders out there can appreciate a person who builds their own car. I have a lot of money invested in my Mustang and my brother and I have developed an eye for making our cars stand out. Last year I was looking for headlight to place in my newly built Mustang. So I too went to Ebay and yes I did purchase some headlights from there, after purchasing and returning several headlights, I could not find a headlight that would work, a lot of the stuff out there was pure junk and if you look through all of the forums you will read many horror stories about the problems with the headlights purchased from there. I won’t go into those problems here, but I want you to know the frustration I had trying to find a one-of-akind headlight that had a good looking halo much like the new Dodge Challenger. In the end I could not find one so I thought I could make a better headlight and went out to make one, when I did it was a big hit at cruise-ins to the point people wanted me to custom make them for their cars. One day I mentioned to my brother how popular my headlight had become at local shows and so he said to me “maybe we should patent it and sell them”. From that point on we daringly followed our dreams and built “RedLine LumTronix” out on a limb to bring to the market place our headlights. So what you see here is the best headlight we could make with quality and it has become a hit among the Classic Car, Muscle Car, Restomod, Low Rider, Rat Rod, Vintage, Motorcycle and off road owners. Pictures on our website don’t do our headlights justice, our headlights simply put is “Stunning” in real life and we hope you will agree. If you have any problems, you have our word on it; we will make it a priority to resolve it. Yes you can call us and we will answer! Thank you and may GOD bless you and your family as he as done with our company…

spiritual emphasis. The Rochelle Harper Band is a hip six-piece, rockin' blues band best described as a "Genre Trip" performing blues, rock, folk, and country with a little bit-a funk thrown in! When Rochelle Harper (lead female vocalist and songwriter) takes the stage her soulful voice and energized stage presence captivates the entire audience who instantly feel connected with the music that the talented musicians in the band bring to the stage. The Rochelle Harper Band is well known for their entertaining shows. Their 2010 release of the Mississippi Hippie Blues CD has opened them to invitations from the Mobile BayFest, USM Jazz & Blues Festival, Bay Bridgefest and the Chedigny Blues Festival in Fance, just to mention a few. They are a favorite at the Biloxi Seafood Festival where Harper has played every year since 2001 when she first began her career on the MS Gulf Coast. RHB has opened for national musical acts such as Gatemouth Brown, Percy Sledge, Richie Havens, T-Bone Pruitt and Mobile local favorites, Wet Willy and Lisa Mills. Harper also has a niche for getting the children involved with her "Sing & Shake" rendition of Van Morrison's, "Brown Eyed Girl." This exciting band ignites the stage by doing what they love; playing music that comes from their souls and spreading the kindness thru peace within music. She continues to find players who have a strong faith and great musicianship to back up her lyrics, creating a vortex of love between the band and the audience. If you are in the crowd you feel like you are the one the band is playing for. If you're a guitarist then you are watching the Boz with his purely Rock-n-Roll guitar licks; that's where his heart is. His abilities go far beyond Rock-n-Roll and he and Rochelle have become a formidable musical team over the last couple of years. Dan Quibell, a.k.a., Dr. Wind blows a variety of wind instruments. If you close your eyes when you see him pick up the flute and listen, you may feel like you're at some hippie rock-n-roll show back in the 60's or 70's. Wayne Alley on drums and vocals locks in with Jefferson Rogers on the bass and vocals and this rhythm section is solid no matter what genre the band chooses to play. Derrell Brown brings the listener into a variety of places depending on what style he's playing. He may play the Hammond B-3 or honkey-tonk piano or good old fashioned blues. As soon as he starts singing you may think you're at an Allman Brothers show. Brotha has a voice. Spreading the Kindness thru Peace within Music is the message that this band delivers at their shows. Come catch their vibe. Friday June 26 at Gulfport Dragway, 5:30pm - 9:30pm during the Happy-Daze Music Festival & Rally.

I had a great uncle who lived to be 105 yrs. Old and recently passed away. A dude casually asked me, out of curiosity, what he died of. I looked at him and said, “duh, of being 105 yrs. old, that's what”! A couple of month's back, me and my wife was having a bad argument. She said, “how would you like it, if you didn't see me for a while”? I said, “that would be fine with me”. So the next day I woke up, I didn't see her. The second day I woke up, I didn't see her. On the third day I woke up, I still didn't see her. But on the fourth day, the swelling on my right eye was just starting to go down enough, so that I was able to see her. Hey I know this dude who had a really bad experience in divorce court. Would you believe the judge now makes him make payments to a woman he doesn't even like anymore. So he vowed to never end up in divorce court again. He said the next time, he will just go find a women he doesn't like and go buy her a real nice house to live in. Pretty far out, huh? A cop pulled a limo driver over for speeding. As the cop was approaching the limo, he noticed the rear tinted window was slowly going down and an old gray headed man stuck his head out, then said, “officer do you have any idea who I am”? The young officer looked at him and thought for a moment, then looked again and said, “No sir, I can't say that I do, but I assure you, we are going to do all we can, to help you find out just who you are”! I saw an ad in the paper the other day, 'looking for S.W.W. who likes long walks on the beach, going dancing, cuddling, romance, going to church'. Please send reply to San Quentin State Prison, cell block D. I wonder what kind of kool aid they are drinking over there in that prison? Check out my ad near back of Motor Sports Magazine. Til next time, keep it hangin loose - Cuz Just Be Cuz

Rob Mentzer’s Ford Mustang Posted on May 15, 2015 Rob Mentzer sent us a few pictures of his Ford Mustang. He used Jet Black and Marooned Red Metallic to create a beautiful two-toned look. Amazingly, this was his first ever time to use UreKem products … AND PAINT! Most first time painters wouldn’t take on such a job, but as you can see Rob really did great and the results are amazing.
Many Thank you's to the Urekem team! The help provided with products purchased is beyond what I anticipated. Here is a pic of 2 stage Cherry bomb pearl base coat that laid down as smooth as glass over the Urekem red primer sealer. You all have made doing my very first paint job exciting! Will follow up once the clear is done.
Will the OxyStik Epoxy Primer (EP-21) work with ABS Plastic? Posted on May 4, 2015 by admin Recently, we were asked if our OxyStik Epoxy Primer (EP-21) would work with ABS Plastic. Primarily, our OxyStik Epoxy Primer is designed to work for bare metal finishing applications and as a sealer over fillers and existing finishes. However, it is possible to use the EP-21 over ABS. Even so, we would still recommend using our QuadFlex 2K Plastic Primer (QFP-44) and/or our QuadFlex Adhesion Promoter (QF-777) for your plastic painting needs as these products are designed specifically for plastics. QuadFlex QFP44 is a two component polyurethane primer designed with urethane reactant copolymers, extender pigments and additives to create a primer that applies easily, seals well and has the adhesion and flexibility required for refinishing plastic substrates commonly found in the automotive industry.

I painted it in night time votech class. It was raining all day so I still have not seen it in the sun. If I had known painting was so rewarding I would not have waited till I was in my mid 50s to learn how. I have 2 more cars and a motorcycle to paint...off to look at what colors to pick next...like a kid in a candy store. Hopefully my skill level will increase and I can move up to a 3 stage paint job soon! Again, I cannot thank you all enough for your assistance….. Darren Fitzgerald Darren purchased. 1 gallon of red primer sealer. 1 gallon of cherry bomb pearl 2 stage base coat. 1 gallon of HS clear coat.
