Who is the artist and how are they branded? The artist is Eminem, a mainstream rapper, he is branded as quite a plain person, and uses real locations in his images, to make it look more realistic, instead of fake which is conventional of a rap artist. He wears plain clothes to try and make him seem relatable to the audience, like he is just a normal person, that makes him look like a genuine rapper, the audience would suggest that he is down to earth. He is also from Detroit, and the back cover shows a sign saying’ Eminem welcomes you to Detroit’ which shows he is patriotic about the state he was born in, and the importance of it. This represents him as a humble artist. How does it synergise with other representations of the artist? Eminem doesn’t have many other projects however he does sell merchandise to promote the album, simple things like t-shirts, jumpers and hats, this is all made considering what his target audience would wear. This is also something the audience is likely to see the artist wearing himself. Giving him a down to earth persona, and makes him relatable to the audience, creating social relationships, as they know he would wear these types of clothes.
What message does the cover give to the audience about the album/recording/performance/music video? The artist gives the impression that he is a rapper talking about his own life and experiences. Recovery, suggests that it is like a comeback album , and the typography coincides with the words of the title, as this sign is associated with emergency ambulance services. Also the cover is set in an urban area which can connote his music is also urban and mainstream. What will you use or not use on your Digipak? I will use the symbolism and try to in corporate that into the typography, as I think it helps re enforce the genre of his music. However they haven’t put the name of the artist on the cover as they would know who the artist is by the picture, however our artist is unsigned so would need to let the audience know who they are, as an introduction.
