ow Alisha Dobinson and Jack Herbert must have smiled inwardly and breathed a massive sign of relief to finish this project, as directing producer Jack Herbert had a personal connection with the particular story told in “Dear Daddy”. Herbert’s inspiration was based upon Olivia SandwithO’shea, who’s father passed away in 2012 do to cancer, Jack’s intent was to create a master piece to show Olivia one day, to which Her father Karl would be happy with.

When Esme Josling was in for the role, Olivia was called Daisy Esme Josling was then recast due to contract issues, in which a page 1 rewrite changed the character name to her real life name. and completely unique to his last efforts in 2016’s The Blur begins. Where Herbert showed his artistic action based directing we knew he was capible of. But didn’t Jack surprise us, flipping fans and critics alike by moving from pure thriller based action to emotional heart pulsing love stories, showing the utter perfectionist range of Jack’s writing and directing skills.
Alisha stated how though the serious tone of the film, Jack Herbert made the whole experience “enjoyable, creative and free”. Alisha felt Herbert’s layed back but meaningful vibe to life is what makes his work so successful, as it demonstrates his personality on film. Jessica found Jack a pleasure to work with, saying his artistic
auteur ideas made the process of creating art easily, “Dear Daddy” being “the world” to Jess, “I knew it wasn’t about me, but Jack’s universal audience direction made it impossible to not thing the story was about you, open ended questions yet indivualist made the short film show to anyone, regardless of the background”.
