The limestone quarry part of the site has a distinct atmosphere. The other part of the site is filled or at least contains some green space. However when you reach the current quarry, it almost feels like if you are in a desert, due to the high wall, yellow colour from the limestone and the dryness, despite the fact that there are some loam on the other side.

The forest part of the site contains alder and birch trees. This little forest like atmosphere has much variety of lives around such as vegetation, bees, butterflies, birds etc. The variety gives different sounds from buzzing of the bees to the nearby car sounds. Because of the trees you feel enclosed most of the time but when you reach a clearing you get to see the whole quarry which has the opposite atmosphere compared to the forest.

The entrance of the quarry shows the oldest part during the mining era. It portrays both limestone elements as well as forest-like atmosphere. As the operation got deeper into the land, the excavated loam is used to create somewhat rock mountain environment. No idea of the quarry which lies beyond can be imagined at this point due to the mounds and green space. Flint road giving distinct sound.

Key words: Exposed in small scale, Enclosed in big scale, dark yellow or brown, same atmosphere across, flat, quiet

Key words: Enclosed, clearing giving look over the area, cool air breeze, level change, loam/soil ground, trees

Key words: Forest and quarry elements blended, flint ground, hiding view, curvy road, finished design.

SPATIAL QUALITY OF THE JOURNEY TOWARDS THE GARDEN Forest

Loose

Water Feature

Grass Meadow

Exposed Limestone Present situation. From here, the birch and alder trees will become more mature forest and dense, thinning the main path towards the quarry will allow the forest to expand as much towards the road. This expansion will amplify the feeling of enclosure for the audience to feel.

GARDEN OVER TIME

When the excavationis happening, the loose is to be placed on the south of the quarry to create mound. Also to prevent the birch and alder forest to cover the whole place, two clearing on the south side is to be preserved. Also at this point, the pond will be created by leveling the earth and consentratig the water from surrounding.

When the excavation is finished, the loose will be placed back on the top of the limestone which will be untouched to create birch and alder forest. The thickened forest on the south will be turned into paths which contains narrow paths and clearings to create enclosure and exposure sensation. At this point the second pond is to be created and loose are slowly becoming taken over by trees.

In 20 years, most of the loose are started to become forests but one part will be left as loose to create contrasting atmosphere. Most of the paths are made and are being served as narrow paths that lead people to the quarry and the garden. However, most paths are not only served as moving tool but acting as sneak peek introduction to the whole hide and seek concept so that people are subconsciously recognising it.

In 100 years, the forests are really thickened and the garden pocket is really hidden from the audience until reaching the quarry. The south mound is covered in birch and alder trees what you cannot see beyond it and acts like a screen blocking views.

Section of the secret garden is describing how deep the garden is placed compared to the ground level. The topography is creating hidden space within the garden and the plants are enhancing the feeling of hide and seek. Quarcus robur is acting like a focal point and Popular are leading people through the garden. Point, line and group of trees are acting together to create sensation. From plan the clear three sections are visible as well as the hidden grass meadow of secret. The three spaces contain a certain theme. From left, hidden space, dense forest and intertwine of both elements.

The perspective views of the garden showing how the garden looks in human scale and how each element are blending in with each other. The hidden stairs are only discovered if the audience walks towards the salix. However, all paths are connected with the villa making no matter where you choose to go, you can experience things from different angle and not walking back to take another path. View from the villa shows the acers are acting like a forest carpet. Again, the populars are acting as following line.

The garden contain 4 main trees. The Quercus Rober acting as a focal point or the objective place for the audience which is placed on the background. Populous Nigra Var Italica are placed in linear so people follow them, this will enhance the route which can be denied by other trees. Acers are placed together to create a forest to block the grass meadow behind and creating enclosed space. Salix is also focal point that attracts people which will show them the secret stairs hidden behind the quarry.

ISOMETRIC VIEW OF THE VILLA

This plan shows the connection between the pocket garden and the desert. There’s a clear axes coming from the Qurcus to the entrance point. This not a tangible line but intangible visionary line that audiences are forced to look at. Audiences are unaware of the desert until the entrance point, surprising them. This surprise is not finished with the exposed limestone walls and floor. Addition to the raw limestone, through the tunnel, there’s the pocket garden hidden away and is presented to the audiences. When people arrive at the north mound containing the Quarcus, they can finally look behind where they came from and observe their journey. This platform acts as a belvedere. Also, the villa is positioned away from the line axes and is placed so people register the villa after the Qurcus. This house also is served as a belvedere that from the top floor, the acer forest acts as a carpet to create scenery, this place also creates a point of panoramic view. The journey can be also be seen from here, however, different from the north mound
