1. GEOGRAPHY Extension The new Shijak Municipality lies in lowland adjacent to Erzen River. It has a favourable geographical extension with an 11 km distance from Durrës city, 25 km from the main national airport, and 38 km from the capital, Tirana. In North, West and South boundaries there is Durrës Municipality. In the east, there are Vorë and Tirana Municipalities. The urban centre of the municipality is Shijak city. 2. POPULATION AND VILLAGES The municipal population, according to 2011 census, amounts to 27,861 inhabitants. The new Shijak Municipality is composed of four administrative units: Shijak, Maminas, Xhafzotaj and Gjepalaj. Shijak Municipality comprises one city and 25 villages. All of them are part of Durrës Qark. According to the aforementioned census, the population density is 302 inhabitants /km2. Its surface area is 92.19 km2. 3. NATURAL RESOURCES AND MANAGEMENT 1.200 hectares cultivated with field crops or fruit trees (before 1990). Today, only 51% of the arable land is being cultivated. Agriculture is oriented toward the cultivation of vegetables and forage, livestock breeding and fruit growing. 4. MUNICIPAL BUDGET 2016 Government-transferred budget Expected local income

5. ECONOMIC ACTIVITY Shijak is a city rich in water resources, the local economy is oriented mainly toward trade, processing and producing industries. There are 292 private companies, out of which 44 are big businesses and 248 local businesses. These businesses mainly operate in the field of services, trade, and less in the areas of production and construction. In 2014 the total number of agricultural and livestock farms has been: Shijak with 150 farms, Xhafzotaj with 2638 farms, Maminas with 1280 farms, and Gjepalaj with 1101 farms. Shijak municipality has an administration of 52 employees and abides by the rules of employing 50% males and 50% females. 6. INCOME AND UNEMPLOYMENT According to 2014 statistics, there are 2517 unemployed persons. The average income per capita is circa 44 Euro. 7.
