When they bought Sunlite Bar & Grill in 1999, Wayne and Kathy Crawford already had many fond memories of walking and biking there as kids to buy candy and snacks. Now, celebrating their 20th anniversary of owning the restaurant, they take pleasure in helping other people create great memories with their families and friends. Sunlite, a longtime staple of the Big and Little Floyd Lakes area, features a full service restaurant and bar as well as a small grocery store that is open year-round. Sunlite offers docks for boat access on both Floyd lakes and customers can enjoy a lakeside meal on the restaurant’s deck during the summer. Positioned on the Richwood North snowmobile trail, Sunlite offers a full menu of hot toddies in the winter. “We take great pride in being a family-friendly restaurant and bar with affordable pricing for families and large groups,” the Crawfords say. “We have something for everyone — indoor, outdoor and bar seating, big screen TVs, bubble hockey, pool tables and other games, candy, ice cream treats, lake access, and snowmobile access.” Known for its fun, energetic staff, Sunlite is popular for its fresh hand-pattied beef burgers, alongside its unique offerings of elk, bison and veggie burgers. Other frequently requested menu items include the grilled chicken breast sandwich, french fries, wings, Bloody Marys, and apple pie shots. “We don’t claim to be fancy, but we strive to serve a great product at an affordable price, and our customers recognize that,” they add. It was the year 2000. I had been employed at the Elk’s Club for 15 years, but they were closing their doors so I needed to find a new job. A friend of mine had just been hired at Lakeside 1981, and I decided to give them a try, as well. It was not what I expected, with linen tablecloths and a higher-class menu, which included steak, lobster and flaming dessert. I thought to myself, “this is not for me.” But, I stayed — and I was able to see the transformation of Lakeside 1981 as Chet Collins bought it and slowly started to change things for the better. Chet and I gained a great working friendship, which allowed me to be part of the process of turning Lakeside 1981 into Lakeside Tavern. It wasn’t easy, but it was worth it. I learned so much from Chet, and he was able to give me the flexible schedule that allowed me to raise my family. As I look back over the years, I have met so many people who have become my friends. With that, I also gained my Lakeside family. I am so thankful for my co-workers. Being able to see these amazing people daily makes my job not feel like work. I want to thank Chet for giving me the opportunity to be part of this wonderful establishment.

A unique 18-hole course that was opened in 1980, the Lakeview Golf Course plays to par of 31-33-64, with nine par three holes, eight par four holes, and a closing par five. The picturesque course features large greens, with traps bordering all 18 holes. The golfer is offered some spectacular views, especially from the tee area (situated at the highest point on the two courses) at the 7th hole. While the yardage may appear to be short, the course is deceptively difficult. Course record is 57, set in 1999. A newly expanded and remodeled clubhouse, driving range, practice area and green are all part of the Lakeview Golf Course Complex. Owner Randy Gravelle has been at the helm of Hoffman’s for the past decade. Anywhere from eight to 12 employees work with him, depending on the time of year. “Customers are always telling us we have the best steaks, hamburger, sticks and jerky,” Gravelle says. “We sell a lot of burger, sticks and jerky all year ‘round.” Hoffman’s also sells pork, poultry, sausages and other choice meat products.
