Week-long holiday event starts in NY Mills Nov. 27 T

he 12th Annual New York Mills Christmas Festival gets the holiday season underway with the Christmas Kick-Off on Friday, Nov. 27. The Kick-Off runs 5-9 p.m. upstairs in City Hall and features the ever-growing in popularity Kids Cookie Decorating event courtesy of The Bake Shoppe. Cookie decorating takes place from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

The T.O.P.S. Bake Sale and Senior Arts & Crafts will both have booths set up during the festival. Also, the Senior Citizen’s Center will host a Chili & Chowder Supper, 4-8 p.m., during the Kick-Off. The City Hall Ballroom will be filled with decorated trees set up and donated by various individuals, businesses, civic groups, and organizations.

Tree viewing continues all week–Nov. 28 through Dec. 5–opening at noon each day. The Community Christmas Program is Thursday, Dec. 3 at 7 p.m., with Santa flying in at 8 p.m. to visit with the children. The Christmas Festival closes with the Community Christmas Party on Saturday, Dec. 5. The festival is open 12 noon to 7 p.m., and 9-10 p.m. Social hour for the party is at 6

NY Mills Santa Anonymous kicks off T

he 2009 Santa Anonymous program will mark its 26th year and go underway last weeks for the families of New York Mills School students. The donation boxes were wrapped and placed in community businesses by the NYM FCCLA high school students Nov. 20. Donation boxes are at the following locations: Cenex Cstore, East Otter Tail Credit Union, Dean’s Country Market, Seip Drug, Hardware Hank, The Creamery, Mills Lanes, NYM Public Library,

F&M State Bank and the NYM Post Office. This year, Santa Anonymous is asking people from the community to consider adopting a family. Participating in Santa Anonymous is an opportunity for families to make this a special Christmas to remember as they choose gifts and wrap them for their adopted family. To do so, please call 385-2109 or 385-3603 for details. The need is larger than ever and your help would be greatly appreciated. New gifts for children

from infancy to 18 years of age are needed, especially for teenagers. Money donations may be sent to Kay Tougas at 111 N. Broadway in New York Mills or deposited directly into the SA account at the F&M State Bank. Last year, 57 families and more than 35 senior citizens had the holidays brightened through Santa Anonymous. The need this year is anticipated to be even greater and we ask you to consider adopting a family or donating your time to help. Gifts will be collected on

Friday, Dec. 11, wrapped on Monday, Dec. 14 and delivered on Wednesday, Dec. 16. Wrapping will be done in two shifts to enable more people to help. It will be 9 a.m. to 12 noon and 3:30 to 6 p.m. at the county office building. Please call the previously mentioned numbers if you are interested in signing up to help. The Santa Anonymous committee thanks all of you in advance for your continued support and generosity.

NYM Christmas Party features dinner, dance

T

ickets are now available for the New York Mills Community Christmas Party which will be held on Saturday, Dec. 5. Tickets are available at Hardware Hank and F&M State Bank in New York Mills. Cost is $20/ticket

which includes a social, dinner, and dance. Dinner will be catered by Eagles Cafe, with live entertainment by the band Sapphire. Purchase tickets on or before Sunday, Nov. 22 to be included in the early bird drawing of $100 cash.

The band “Sapphire” will play from 8 to midnight for the New York Mills Community Christmas party Dec. 5.

‘Angel of Hope’ candlelight vigil Dec. 6 T

he 6th Annual "Christmas Box Angel of Hope" Candlelight Vigil Sunday December 6, at 7 p.m. At the Angel of Hope Memorial Park, located at the corner of 3rd Ave. and 6th Ave. NE in Perham. Immediately following the Vigil, refreshments and fellowship will be held at Perham Community Church, located at 44664 440th St., across the street from the Park.

Perham Lions Parade of Lights Nov. 27 The Perham Lions Club 9th Annual Holiday Parade of Lights is set for Friday, Nov. 27. The parade begins at 5:30 p.m., with the float winners announced at 7:30 p.m. at Mulligan’s. A drawing for the Perham Area Chamber Raffle will be held, and music with “After Dark” will entertain the crowd at Mulligan’s.

The Perham Lions Club Holiday Parade of Lights is sponsored in cooperation with the Perham Area Chamber of Commerce. To enter a float, call 218346-7710 or go to www.perham.com and click on “Parade of Lights” for an entry form. Entries will be accepted at the Chamber office until November 20.

Festivities launch with the Perham Lions “Parade of Lights” Nov. 27, and continue right to Christmas Eve. Reporting on Christmas activities at the Nov. 10 Perham Area Chamber of Commerce “Power Hour” was Terrie Anderson, who is spearheading the annual “Christmas in Candyland” promotion for the Perham Events Committee. Delivering an update on the Parade of Lights was chairperson Faye Schwartzenberger, a Perham Lions member. Shoppers can register for a $400 giveaway of Perham Bucks; free movies will play at Comet Theater; and a coloring contest for kids will be featured.
