PARKING, VEHICLES, BICYCLES, AND SKATEBOARDS

1. Any student driving a car or motorbike to school is required to register the vehicle with the Dean’s Office, regardless of whether the student is issued an on-campus parking permit or a parking permit for the LDS Church parking lot Should a student be issued a parking permit for the De La Salle parking lot, the student is required to park in the assigned parking space If a student is issued a parking permit for the LDS Church, they must park in the assigned area of the LDS parking lot Because of limited parking spaces, Freshmen and Sophomores will not have parking privileges Parking privileges are limited to Seniors and Juniors. Students parking on campus or at the LDS Church parking lot without a parking permit or students not parking in their assigned parking spaces or area will be towed at their own expense.

2. De La Salle assumes no responsibility for the care and/or protection of any vehicle or its contents at any time while it is parked or operated on the campus of De La Salle High School Issuance of a parking permit shall create no liability on any property owned or otherwise controlled by De La Salle

3 De La Salle reserves the right to remove, or have removed, any vehicle that is parked in such a way as to constitute a serious hazard, impede vehicular or pedestrian traffic movement, or the operation of emergency equipment and/or making of essential repairs Owners of such vehicles will be required to pay all costs involved in removing, impounding, and storing such vehicles.

4. Bicycles are to be parked in the designated bicycle area.

5. De La Salle students may not park their vehicles on the Carondelet campus, in the faculty parking lot, anywhere in the rear of the campus near the athletic fields and pool, or in the neighborhood

6 Carelessness or recklessness in driving, excessive speed, lack of car registration with the Deans of Students, and improper parking are matters for disciplinary action including loss of parking privileges on campus or at the LDS Church

7 Many of the streets adjacent to and close to the De La Salle and Carondelet campuses are zoned for resident permit parking only on school days between 9 a m.- 3 p m. Students and visitors to the De La Salle campus should follow all posted restrictions. Fines will be imposed by the municipality for parking violations.

8. Shadelands Business Park, in consultation with the City of Walnut Creek, has given permission for students to park on the street in this area. Parking other than on the street is not allowed at any time

9 Skateboards or scooters may not be ridden on campus at any time This includes on the driveways, parking lots, and sidewalks

6.13 USE OF SCHOOL DIRECTORY FOR CARPOOLS

The De La Salle High School directory, and all of the personal information in it, is solely for personal use by families of current students of the school It is not to be shared with other individuals, organizations, or businesses.

We encourage families to connect and coordinate rides to and from campus through the use of the directory. By enabling families to use the directory for that purpose, however, De La Salle High School in no way assumes any responsibility related to anyone ’ s carpool arrangements By using the directory and participating in a carpool, you expressly agree to release, indemnify, defend, and hold harmless De La Salle, and its respective employees, directors, officers, agents, and representatives from any and all liability arising from the use

2023-24 De La Salle High School Student-Parent Handbook Page 22 of 57 of this service, including but not limited to any lawsuits, claims or causes of actions brought by you or any third party alleging any injuries or damages of any kind, whether relating to personal injury, damage to property, remedies in equity, attorneys’ fees, or court costs.

6.14 COMMUNITY HEALTH AND SAFETY

De La Salle is committed to operating a private school promoting a healthy school community This includes immunizations required by state law for every student unless excepted by state law. Further, De La Salle will follow all publicly-issued health orders applicable to it, and it is expected that its employees, volunteers, as well as students, parents, and visitors will comply with such government health orders

Students who require medications to be administered will submit a written authorization All prescription medications utilized at school require a physician and parent authorization Students and their parents must inform the school of special medications requiring emergency use, such as Epi-pens or bronchial inhalers Students are responsible for carrying such devices with them at all times while at school and are trained to self-administer
