HOW NATIONAL RACING WORKS National events are hosted at premier motocross racetracks (amateur and/or professional) nationwide. The promoters of these facilities have experience in the design, preparation, and maintenance of ATV-friendly racetracks. Riders who are professionally licensed via AMA Pro Racing chase their championships at the same venues as most amateurs, ranging from 10 to 12 rounds per year. A typical race weekend includes a Friday amateur practice day followed by racing on Saturday and Sunday. Generally, after a short practice, the first moto or qualifiers for all amateur classes are held on Saturday, in between the Pro motos. The second motos are held on Sunday in conjunction with both Pro Am motos. Each class is scored separately using an electronic transponder system. Everyone is welcome to compete, and there is no pre-qualification process. In ATVMX, there’s a class for nearly every age, every machine, and every skill level. A typical national event will attract 500 to 800 racers from almost every state, as well as Canada and occasionally Europe, Australia, South America, and more. Regardless of class, machine size, or skill level, every rider from around the world shares a passion for ATV motocross, and that’s what makes each weekend at an ATVMX National an unforgettable experience.

THE EVENTS AN INSIDE LOOK AT THE TR ACKS OF AT VMX PHOTOS BY KEN HILL
T
he ATV Motocross National Championship presented by CST Tires and sanctioned by AMA Racing is America’s most prestigious and longest-running ATV racing series. With thousands of venues across the United States and only ten stops
on the circuit, each track boasts different opportunities and atmospheres. Perhaps the most distinctive aspect of ATVMX is
that amateur riders get to compete on the same track as the pros. This means each track must be safe for all skill levels and have plenty of parking and other amenities just to be considered a candidate to host an ATVMX race. Here’s a look at the tracks that will host the 2018 ATVMX National Championship.

MARCH 13 | Daytona Beach, FL
T
he tradition of kicking off the season with the FLY Racing Daytona ATV Supercross (ATVSX) will continue in 2018. After an eight-month off-season, anticipation is always at an all-time high before the gate
drops at Daytona International Speedway. This unique event takes place during Daytona’s Bike Week festivities, kicking off with Saturday night’s Daytona Supercross, continuing with the two-day Ricky Carmichael Daytona Amateur Supercross event, and concluding with the ATVSX.
“Taking place on the most prestigious motorsports grounds in the world, the ATVSX includes a full weekend of racing and family fun.”
Due to time constraints, the event offers a
limited class structure. For the first time ever, each class will pay points toward the ATV Motocross Championship, both in the AMA Pro and amateur divisions. Families are invited to camp trackside on the Daytona infield and catch all the week’s racing action before taking to the track on Tuesday.
Taking place on the most prestigious motor-
sports grounds in the world, the ATVSX includes a full weekend of racing and family fun. With hotels, restaurants, shopping, and nightlife just minutes from the track, the ATVSX is the perfect way to welcome the 2018 race season.

BRAND-NEW EVENT!
SOUTH OF THE BORDER MX March 24-25 | Hamer, SC
S
outh of the Border has grown into arguably one of the biggest training complexes in the United States, specializing in two-wheeled action. This year marks the first time that ATVMX will invade the iconic property. With the perfect sand-to-dirt mixture, the track will quickly come to accommodate quads with multiple lines through
each turn, which means plenty of passing opportunities. Known for its ability to get rough and whooped-out, the track won’t disappoint the ultimate ATV Motocross riders. The facility is situated in the popular South of the Border tour-
ist destination, which means restaurants, shops, game rooms, markets, and a 24-hour diner are just minutes away. There is even a bike shop on property for any last-minute parts you may need to

or the East Coast competitors, the trip to Kemp, Texas’ Underground MX Park may seem like a long haul, but it doesn’t take long to realize why the 75-acre facility is part of the ATV Motocross circuit once you arrive. The dirt contains an ideal mixture of sand, while the course offers a variety of obstacles that will challenge any rider. The combination of
tabletops, sand rollers, step-ups, doubles, step-downs, and much more were all designed by one of the nation’s top track builders, Randy Poulter. Spectators can also get up close and personal with the racers on the infield spectating area. The family-friendly grounds also feature restrooms and shower facilities, a laundry area, full RV hook-ups, and a local apartment rental. Centrally located near some of the bigger cities in the Southwest, Midwest, and Southeast, Underground MX also hosts a Regional Championship for the AMA Amateur Nationals. Just an hour from Dallas, it’s convenient to shopping, hotels, restaurants, and grocery stores.

IRONMAN RACEWAY MAY 5-6 | Crawfordsville, IN
U
npredictable weather mixed with a fairly new track always promises a great weekend of racing at Ironman Raceway in Crawfordsville, Indiana. The motorsports-crazed town always makes its presence known when the fastest ATVMX racers pay a visit. Between the AMSOIL Grand National Cross Country
Series, Lucas Oil Pro Motocross, and ATV Motocross, attendance numbers are through the roof.
Don’t let the cornfields fool you: there are plenty of elevation
changes and features that make this track unique. Spectators can get different perspectives though the multiple trackside viewing locations. Just five minutes from the track are a host of amenities including grocery stores, hotels, and restaurants. The hospitably offered by the locals make this track one of a kind.
ROUND 5
2017 WINNER: [EVENT CANCELED]
HIGH POINT RACEWAY MAY 19-20 | Mt. Morris, PA
H
igh Point Raceway has been a crowd favorite since it began in 1976. Situated right on the Mason-Dixon Line, High Point features elevation changes, boisterous fans, and tricky off-cambers. Racers will be treated to an all-new start line and racecourse layout this year, leaving the holeshot anyone’s to claim.
The great racing is also accompanied by great spectating. Due
to the valley, the track hosts amphitheater-like seating that allows fans to see almost 100 percent of the racing action. This round is also known for unpredictable weather patterns that keep the riders guessing—racers often face dry conditions in one moto and slick,

THE EVENTS

MUDDY CREEK RACEWAY JUNE 2-3 | Blountville, TN
S
nuggled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, Blountville, Tennessee’s Muddy Creek Raceway is one of the largest and most scenic tracks of the series. The track underwent numerous changes once it was added to the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship in 2013, and the changes certainly benefited the ATV Motocross racers.
Known for its natural-terrain layout and excellent spectator views, the
track provides plenty of areas where racers can test the limits of their machines and showcase their skills for the fans. The uphill triple and various step-ups and step-downs challenge the best of the best. The track has been featured in Sports Illustrated, Racer X Illustrated, Motocross Action, Dirt Bike, ATV Sport, and Dirt Wheels, to name just a few major publications. Just a short drive from the track you’ll find great restaurants and amenities. The track is also near Bristol, Tennessee, home of the famed Bristol Motor Speedway.
ROUND 7
2017 WINNER: CHAD WIENEN
SUNSET RIDGE MX JUNE 16-17 | Walnut, IL
S
unset Ridge is known for its wide-open layout, and it’s full of big, sweeping turns and large manmade jumps. The added element of sandy, power-robbing soil makes for one of the more technical tracks on the circuit, and it tends to favor elite riders who aren’t intimidated by its distinct supercross feel.
Sunset Ridge is a fantastic track for spectating, with excellent
views of the action available in multiple locations. That’s good news for fans of five-time ATV Motocross Champion Chad Wienen—this is the champ’s home track, and his supporters always show up in force to cheer on their local hero as he strives to add another championship to his records against the stacked field of the AMA Pro class.

nadilla Raceway is known as “The Home of Horsepower” and makes for some of the fastest speeds of the entire championship. Based on old-school European tracks, the course layout is one of a kind. Riders push their machines to the limits, and the racing surface makes for a tight track. Racers have
to deploy different strategies in order to choose their passing opportunities with utmost care. Thanks to the amphitheater-like setting, the venue offers plenty of prime viewing locations. Some favorite spots provide great views of riders dipping in and out of Gravity Cavity and soaring high into the air over the famous Skyshot jump.

REDBUD MX JULY 21-22 | Buchanan, MI
T
he iconic RedBud National consists of a picturesque setting, varying terrain, elevation changes, absolutely massive jumps, and prime, dark soil that includes everything from sand to hard-pack. This stunning track is one of the best in the off-road racing world. The track’s legendary battle cry–“Red Buuuuuud!”–will
ring through the facility during the weekend. The beautiful, well-manicured grounds of this storied venue add to the passion and enthusiastic ambiance. It’s a combination that’s unparalleled in all of motocross, and it should come as no surprise that RedBud is one of the most anticipated rounds of the year for fans and racers alike. In addition to Buchanan’s amenities, comforts and conveniences can be found in nearby South Bend and Mishawaka, Indiana. Camping is always fun at RedBud, too, and since the excitement of the day always carries over into nighttime celebration, it’s an attractive option for those seeking evening entertainment.

ver a decade ago, Joel Hetrick set out to make a name for himself in the world of ATV racing. A native of small-town Seneca, Pennsylvania, he devoted everything he had to one day being a professional racer. At a young age, he had a clear
vision to be the best and one day earn a National Championship at the top level.
After a successful 2010 season where he won the
Pro-Am Unlimited class and finished as the runner-up in Pro-Am Production, it was time for Joel to make his debut in the AMA Pro class. His first time lining up

Vee-Rotors™ These rotors are British made using German mill rolled precision stainless steel rotor blades with new weight reducing vee profiles which are mounted onto lightweight alloy center hubs using the EBC patented SD square drive button technology. Color hub options also available. VMD Classic rotors are available with black anodized hubs.
American Made EBC sintered pads – powerful braking with stainless steel radiator plates to reduce heat and noise.

Fans must remain behind all fence barriers, stay off the track, and keep a safe distance from it. Fans should never cross the track. It is your responsibility to keep yourself and your children a safe distance from the track. Never turn your back to oncoming racers, and remember: STAY OFF THE TRACK. SLEEP SAFE POLICY: If you are staying overnight in an RV or vehicle or using a generator, you need to be aware of the dangers of Carbon Monoxide (CO) poisoning. CO is a poisonous, colorless, odorless, and tasteless gas that can be released when burning gasoline, kerosene, oil, propane, or wood. Mind your vehicle and generator exhaust while in close proximity to your family and neighbors. Do not place your generator directly under a slide-out or under your vehicle where the fumes can seep into the camper. Make sure all exhaust fumes are properly and fully vented so that they do not become trapped or seep into your sleeping quarters. When sleeping in a van, car, or truck, make sure the exhaust is unobstructed if you run the engine for heat. Even when sleeping outdoors under the stars, make sure you are not too close to an exhaust outlet. Devastating consequences can result without proper ventilation. COMMENTS, CONCERNS, IDEAS Your comments and concerns are important to us. We want you to feel free to bring your ideas and opinions to our attention so that we can continue to improve this great racing sport that we love. Some of our greatest improvements and developments have come from our riders and fans. Please feel free to stop by Rider Registration and let us know your thoughts, or drop us an email at info@atvmotocross.com. We would love to hear from you.
