Professional riders on closed course. Side-by-Side Riders: Wear your seat belt, helmet, eye protection and protective clothing. YXZ1000R is recommended for experienced operators only. Read the Owner’s Manual and product warning labels before operation. Model shown with optional accessories. Vehicle specifications subject to change. ATV Riders: YFZ450R is recommended for use only by experienced riders 16 years and older. Yamaha recommends that all ATV riders take an approved training course. For safety and training information, see your dealer or call the ATV Safety Institute at 1-800-887-2887. ATV and Side-by-Side Riders: Avoid excessive speeds and never engage in stunt riding. Always avoid paved surfaces and never ride on public roads. And be particularly careful on difficult terrain. Never ride under the influence of alcohol or other drugs; it is illegal and dangerous.
From YXZs to YFZs, Yamaha knows how to win championships…no matter how tight, technical, or outright grueling the terrain may be. The YXZ1000R and YXZ1000R SS offer a totally connected, pure sport experience unlike any other Side-by-Side in the industry. And the YFZ450R…well, what can we say that hasn’t already been said for itself out on the track? It’s simply the most dominant machine in the woods, winning every single GNCC XC1 race last year. For more information on the new 2018 Yamaha YFZ450R, YXZ1000R and YXZ1000R SS, visit YamahaMotorsports.com today.

WELCOME! tHE 44TH ANNUAL EDITION
O
n behalf of the Racer Productions team, welcome to the 2018 AMSOIL Grand National Cross Country Series, an AMA National Championship. This is the 44th annual edition of GNCC Racing, America’s largest offroad ATV and motorcycle racing series, drawing the best off-road racers from across the United States and around the world to compete in the 13-round series for the most prestigious championship in the sport of off-road racing. GNCC Racing is among the most unique racing series in any motorsports discipline, as it provides a platform for racers of all ages and skill levels. Each round provides a class for racers as young as four and as old as 65+, with over 100 more classes for every machine, engine size, and level of competition imaginable. The series prides itself on providing a professional experience for new off-road riders, weekend warriors, and families as well as the world’s fastest factory-supported riders on custom-made equipment racing for big

Everyone lines up on the same starting line, and every rider who competes makes GNCC Racing the unique national racing circuit that it is. GNCC Racing is entering its 44th year in exciting fashion, coming off another spectacular season in 2017. The unprecedented numbers in 2017 include 19,110 rider entries and the largest event held in 2017 witnessed an astonishing 2,383 racers competing at the Ironman GNCC. We look forward to working with the KC66 Foundation to pioneer more safety initiatives in the future. GNCC Racing owes a hearty thanks

Watts’ personality drew plenty of attention
too. Brash and outspoken, he showed up at all sorts of events, even motocross races, and rode well at them all. Unfortunately, he suffered a lengthy run of injuries and rarely had the patience to heal properly before returning. Watts, considered the Travis Pastrana of off-road, was never able to win the GNCC crown again.

On ATV day, Youth riders aged 6 to 15 race for one hour starting at 8 a.m. A two-hour race for the Women, 4x4 Pro, Super Senior, and Novice classes starts at 10 a.m., and then the Pro, Pro Am, A, and B riders race at 1 p.m. At events holding UTV and Single Seats or 50cc Micro races, the UTV or Micro events begin at 4 p.m. and last for one hour, while Single Seats begin at 9 a.m. and race for 30 to 45 minutes. On Bike days, Youth riders aged 7 to 15 race for 90 minutes beginning at 8 a.m.; Women, Super Senior, and Novice riders race for two hours starting at 10 a.m.; and the Pro, A, and B riders race for three hours starting at 1 p.m.
White flag: signals one lap remaining.
How does the start work? With the exception of the Youth ATVs, all starts are dead-engine, which means the engine must be off when the blue flag waves. This means the start is approximately thirty seconds away. The starter will hold out his left arm, signifying ten seconds to the start, and the announcer will shout “ten seconds.” At that signal, all crew members must step away. Between eight and ten seconds later, the starter will wave the green flag and the race is on! Any rider taking off with the wrong row will be penalized, and any rider who misses the start of his or her class must enter the racecourse at the starting line and complete the start chute.

THE PITS
THE COURSE
How is the track designed? Careful scouting is required to lay out a GNCC course, which may include trails, footpaths, roads, hills, motocross tracks, or any type of terrain navigable by a bike or ATV. Marking, cutting, tampering with, or otherwise changing the course in any manner is strictly prohibited. Course modifications may only be made by an official.
DID YOU KNOW?
QUICK REFERENCE
THE PLATES
Due to the length of the races, all riders will have to pit at least once to refuel. During the pit stop, riders and crew are allowed to make adjustments and/or repairs to the machine. The rider is also allowed to get a drink and change goggles and other gear.
ATV CLASSES
Each class is scored separately using a computerized transponder mounted to the ATV or bike.
HILL
GNCC courses usually run between 8 and 12 miles for Adult classes and 3 to 5 miles for Youth racers. In the Youth classes, the most difficult sections are removed to ensure the smaller machines can complete the laps.

However, riders must stay within the confines of the following markers: double arrows posted on both sides of the trail, ribbons, signs, stakes, hay bales, barrels, motocross tracks, grass tracks, etc.
Amateur riders may pit anywhere on the course, but XC1 and XC2 riders must pit only in the designated pro pit area.

he AMSOIL Grand National Cross Country Series presents one of the most diverse schedules in off-road racing. We start in the clay of South Carolina, then transition to sandy Florida, and find more clay in Georgia—and those are just the opening rounds! Each GNCC course seems to present a little something for everyone. Ranging from fast, open trails to tight single-track trails, fast field sections and challenging obstacles, each course presents a unique challenge to the world’s fastest off-road racers.

he Big Buck truly is a course for everyone. With trails ranging from tight woods to wide-open fields, creek crossings, rocks, and hillclimbs, there is something for every type of rider here. Typically, the Big Buck Climb and creek jump provide the biggest spectator points of the course. Henry Turner and his family own the Big Buck facility; they’re big fans and supporters of GNCC Racing and even get the town of Union behind the event.
FAST FACTS • Big Buck is the only venue to have hosted a GNCC and an AMA National Enduro in the same year. • During the Revolutionary War, the Battle of Blackstock Plantation was fought on property neighboring Big Buck. • The event was established in 1997, with Matt Smiley (ATV) and Scott Summers (Bike) taking the inaugural wins.

ild Boar presents the typical Florida terrain with grueling sand whoops, some black mud holes, and a course that gets rougher as the weekend wears on. However, with a mix of twisty trails and some fast sections, many racers agree that the modern Wild Boar course is the most fun Florida track in the history of GNCC Racing.

fter taking a couple seasons off, The General GNCC returns for 2018. Hosted at Georgia’s popular Aonia Pass MX, this round features the facility’s motocross track, and the woods are a mix of twisty tight trails and some faster flowing trails, with some grass track added in as well. Its soil is exactly what you’d expect in Georgia: red clay that packs up and gets hard when dry or is really slick when wet. Be ready for anything!
FAST FACTS • Originally known as the Hurricane GNCC, this event took 11 years off and rejoined the series in 2015. • The Rodman Plantation hosts this event and is a renowned wedding, hunting, and event venue. • The event was established in 2003, with Brandon Ballance (ATV) and Barry Hawk (Bike) taking the inaugural wins.
FAST FACTS • Washington, Georgia, was originally known as Heard’s Fort and was founded in 1780. • Washington also played host to Georgia’s first battle in the Revolutionary War, fought at nearby Kettle Creek. • The event was established in 2003, with Bill Ballance (ATV) and Mike Lafferty (Bike) taking the inaugural wins.

ocated in the Blue Ridge Mountains at one of western North Carolina’s most popular campgrounds, Steele Creek is a classic cross-country course. The hills, going both up and down, are long and steep, so momentum and line selection are key here. The soil is a mix of red clay typical of North Carolina and some gray clay, loamy brown topsoil, and even some sandy areas along the creek. This is always a popular event, so expect a large crowd of racers and spectators alike.

he Camp Coker Bullet is fast becoming one of the most popular stops on the GNCC schedule. The facility has a ton of off-track swimming and fishing opportunities, and the course itself is a lot of fun. With tight, twisty trails added to some fast field sections and the abandoned Camp Coker Motocross track, this is definitely an event you don’t want to miss.
FAST FACTS • Former pro motocross racer Larry Ward had a supercross practice track on this property, and a portion of the track runs past the edges. • The Pee Dee River runs through this area and is a huge source of electric power. The river runs into Winyah Bay near Georgetown, South Carolina, before entering the Atlantic Ocean.
• The Pisgah National Forest neighbors the Steele Creek property, and the forest property includes Mount Mitchell, the highest peak east of the Mississippi River. • The Brown Mountain Lights, an unsolved series of ghost lights, can be seen from multiple vantage points just a few miles from Steele Creek.

ast season saw the addition of the X-Factor Whitetails GNCC to the schedule. Unfortunately, heavy rains made a huge impact on the event, and it did not get to live up to its full potential. With fingers crossed for good weather in 2018, the course will be littered with fun up- and downhill sections, flowing trails, and some fast field sections added in as well. Overall, the X-Factor Whitetails promises to be a fun course!
J
ohn Penton was a racer with a vision: a lightweight motorcycle specifically tailored to off-road-racing. He partnered with KTM and soon began importing the machines to America. The brand would evolve into KTM Sportmotorcycles as we know it now, and this race pays tribute to the man who has done so much for the sport. This track is a fun one with a good mix of terrain: creeks, hillclimbs, fast trails, slow trails, and everything in between. It’s usually either very muddy or very dusty here, and sometimes both, so be prepared for anything.
FAST FACTS • This event is held at X-Factor Whitetails, a world-class hunting preserve that boasts some of the biggest deer in the world. • Russ Bellar, who owns the X-Factor Farm, has also bred and raised some of the world’s premier hunting dogs. • Johnny Gallagher’s 2017 X-Factor Whitetails win marked the first of his 23-year XC1 Pro career.

FAST FACTS • Originally joining the GNCC schedule as Burr Oaks in 1990, the John Penton is the longest-running GNCC event currently on the schedule. • John Penton is also responsible for creating early versions of many racing products, including boots, oils, and more.

his is yet another course with a little something for everyone, from fast field sections to fun flowing woods, hills going both up and down, plus offcamber sections and more. The soil is loamy black and brown dirt typical of New York, but underneath that soil is some shell rock that can make the track a bit difficult in some places, and even more fun in others.
P
aying tribute to the original GNCC event, the Blackwater 100, this is the toughest and most unique race of the year. It winds up, down, and across the Snowshoe Mountain Ski Resort’s slopes, and the woods are some of the toughest terrain you’ll encounter all season. Mud, rocks, roots, and steep hillclimbs litter the Snowshoe course, creating a challenge for even the best riders.
FAST FACTS • Walker Fowler has claimed the ATV overall win each year that the Tomahawk has been a part of the GNCC schedule. • The event is located near the base of Seneca Lake, one of New York’s famous Finger Lakes. • Schuyler County is named for Philip Schuyler, one of the four Continental Army generals during the Revolutionary War.
FAST FACTS • Snowshoe’s most famous obstacle is the infamous Howard’s Hole, where riders have to carefully pick their way through a large mud hole. • Prior to becoming a ski resort, the mountain was logged from the early 1900s until the 1960s. This history is how many of the ski slopes’ names were derived.

or the first time ever, GNCC Racing will visit the Johnson Family Farm for the Black Sky GNCC. This property is no stranger to off-road racing, as it has previously hosted a couple of local hare scramble events. owerline Park is full of varying terrain and a mix of different trail types. The soil here is clay mixed with a bit of topsoil, but it generally becomes very slick, as mud is always a factor at Powerline Park. For the ATVs, that means sliding around some of the turns; for the bikes, it means you have to be extra careful in the slick areas. Overall, this very popular event usually draws a good crowd of racers and spectators alike.

he Ironman is one of the most popular races on the circuit, with many riders calling it their favorite. Crawfordsville embraces the event, and there are more local spectators here than at any other round all season. The pits are flat, but once you’re out in the woods, there’s plenty of rolling terrain and some big hills. Riders love the flowing trails, fast cornfield sections, and the Ironman Raceway motocross track. Overall, this is a do-not-miss event.

Engineered to Perfection - in the UK and USA Quality British and American brakes Choose from UK made organic pads or semi-sintered V-Pads™ for feel and control, or US made sintered copper alloy brakes that deliver massive braking power, improved wear life and reduced brake noise. Vee-Rotors™ These rotors are British made using German mill rolled precision stainless steel rotor blades with new weight reducing vee profiles which are mounted onto lightweight alloy center hubs using the EBC patented SD square drive button technology. Color hub options also available. VMD Classic rotors are available with black anodized hubs.
American Made EBC sintered pads – powerful braking with stainless steel radiator plates to reduce heat and noise.
Semi-Sintered V-Pads™ Long lasting semi-sintered V-Pads™ for heavier bikes and classics, for sintered life and organic pad type feel.
EBC Square Drive™ The patented EBC Square-Drive™ button/rivet system ensures rotor blades can expand, cool and stay perfectly flat during heavy braking - probably the only true floating rotor system on the market today, giving you powerful, smooth brakes without vibration.
Check out all the hottest brake products at your EBC Dealer today from the world’s number 1 brand. Gear up with oversize brake kits for street and off road, super lightweight and self cleaning to improve brake control. With all brakes made in the UK or USA the quality is guaranteed.
Carbon X Pads With less lifetime than EBC sintered brake pads, the carbon X pad range has the unique benefit of lower heat generation and transfer. Perfect for off road use.
MXS Series Sintered Pads American made sintered brake pads for off road use. Most of the range include new slider pin kits where required.

THE VOICES OF GNCC RACING
RODNEY TOMBLIN
MIKEY WAYNES
JOHNNY GALLAGHER CHUCK LEMASTER
As the voice of GNCC Racing for almost two decades, Rodney Tomblin has become synonymous with the sport and is a special part of every GNCC event. His distinctive “Ten Seconds!” call has become an iconic part of every start. The Ohio native has blended his remarkable radio voice with his passion for racing to create a real home in GNCC.
Immediately upon joining the RacerTV crew last year, Mikey Waynes was a perfect fit. His interaction with the pro riders trickles all the way down to the up-and-coming youth riders of the sport, and he has completely ingrained himself in the world of off-road racing from a local level all the way to GNCC Racing.
Johnny G is one of GNCC Racing’s top ATV racers—and one of its biggest fans. He grew up racing, eventually making his way into the XC1 Pro ATV ranks. His experience as a longtime competitor and friend to many racers on both the ATV and Bike sides gives Johnny a perspective on the world of GNCC Racing that few can match.

Although he no longer races UTVs (he retired after two Lites Class Championships), Chuck Lemaster brings a different insight to the racing action, in addition to doubling as the series chaplain with Team Faith. Chuck knows you can’t be all work with no play, so you may even see him racing on two wheels Sundays in the Super Senior B (45+) class.

GETTING STARTED IN GNCC RACING
A
re you interested in GNCC Racing? Maybe you picked up this souvenir program at your local GNCC round and had so much fun that you’ve decided to try your hand at off-road racing. GNCC Racing has 57 Bike classes, 43 ATV classes, and 7 UTV classes—so yes, there is literally a class for every age and every skill level! Once you’ve decided what class fits you best, check out the rules that pair with that class. GNCC Racing is sanctioned by the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA), so AMA Amateur Competition Rules apply. However, due to the unique and special character of GNCC Racing, it was necessary to develop our own rules as well. There are three different sets of GNCC Supplemental Rules: Pro, Amateur, and UTV Competition. Familiarize yourself with the rules that apply to your level of competition, as well as the AMA rules. The GNCC series is composed of 13 rounds ranging from Florida to New York. Choose a round you would like to participate in, then either pre-register or register at the track. You will need to have a current AMA membership in order to register; one can be purchased at www.americanmotorcyclist.com. A transponder is also required and can be purchased or rented at the track. Scoring will be based on transponders, and backup scoring uses helmet stickers you will be provided with at registration. That means the number on your bike does not have to match the number you are assigned at registration. (In fact, your bike doesn’t even have to have graphics on it!)
66
GNCCRACING.COM | #GNCCLIVE
Assuming you’re already registered, you should arrive at the track at least two hours before your race starts. You will first stop at the facility entrance and pay an admission fee. This is also a good time to ask where rider registration, the start line, and tech inspection are located. Once you’re checked in at registration, go to tech inspection to ensure that your transponder is properly working and your machine is safe to race. Feel free to check out the track, and make sure to arrive on the starting line 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start time. The GNCC announcer will conduct a riders’ meeting where you can find out any last-minute information you may need, such as a track description and race rules. Two more things to bring with you: a good attitude and a competitive spirit. No matter how you finish, no matter how many laps you make, just competing in a GNCC race is an accomplishment. Have fun, don’t quit (unless you have to), and enjoy your time at the races with your family and friends. Whether you know it or not, you will be creating lifelong memories you will cherish forever.

ON-TRACK SCHOOL PROGRAM
W
ith events throughout the East Coast, GNCC Racing travels to 13 different towns each year. While the races offer a great opportunity for local residents to get out and experience what GNCC Racing is all about, it also creates the perfect occasion for the series to give back to the local communities. Since 2012, the On-Track Program has reached nearly 20,000 students. The program focuses on relevant topics such as following dreams, bullying awareness, perseverance, and motorcycle and ATV safety, and it delivers its message in a unique way. The program takes place the Friday before race weekends and features a variety of racers, male and female, youth
and professional. In some instances, GNCC competitors have been able to participate in the program at their very own schools! There’s constant interaction through activities and contests, which makes for a lighthearted time. At the end of the presentation, students can meet the riders and get autographs, and each student gets a free ticket to the weekend’s race! The program is a hit with both students and school staff, who are generally thrilled by how well the program matches their school’s beliefs.
HOMETOWN HERO PROGRAM
O
ne of the best ways to spread the word about upcoming GNCC events is with the help of our local GNCC Racin’ Nation members, and that’s where our Hometown Hero program comes in to play. Local racers serve as ambassadors and help by hanging posters around their hometowns and surrounding areas. Hanging event posters creates the perfect opportunity for racers to connect with local community members and let them know about their racing background and the upcoming events. Of course, it’s also a good time to tell them how much fun can be had at the races and invite them to come out and watch

their friends and neighbors compete against top national talent. Participating racers are asked to show off their hard work on social media using the hashtags #GNCCHometownHero and #GNCC, and are rewarded with a free race entry to their local event, in addition to a free set of goggles from 100%, the official sponsor for the Hometown Hero program!

CO-SANCTIONING PARTNERS
I
n 2018, GNCC Racing will partner with premier regional racing bodies for eight of the thirteen rounds. Racers are able to connect with various racing series and continue to advance the sport of off-road racing though the help of three different co-sanctioning series. Many racers compete not only at the national level, but also at a local level. A co-sanctioned event allows for racers to become acquainted with both aspects of racing. Oftentimes, racers who excel at their regional race series can also be seen up front at a GNCC event. A co-sanctioned event is a great way to bridge the gap between two different levels of racing and bring together a community of off-road racing enthusiasts. Southeastern Enduro and Trail Riders Association (SETRA) will be back on the GNCC schedule for an astonishing four rounds. The seasonopening Big Buck GNCC, along with The General, Steele Creek, and the Camp Coker Bullet rounds, will be part of the commitment. With events taking place throughout the year, the SETRA series has multiple races through the winter break, making it the ideal fit for racers who are looking to continue their competitions after the GNCC season has concluded. Indiana Cross Country Racing (IXCR) will co-sanction with the X-Factor Whitetails GNCC, along with the popular AMSOIL Ironman GNCC season finale. The Ironman GNCC has been associated with the IXCR circuit since 2009, helping the event grow into a popular destination for GNCC racers and motocross racers. In 2016, the Ironman
70
GNCCRACING.COM | #GNCCLIVE
GNCC became the largest-attended GNCC event ever with a total of 2,442 racers, which was almost matched last year. As the Ironman GNCC advanced, so did participation in the IXCR series, where it has become a frequent stop for XC1 pros on their off-weekends. Woods Extreme XC Racing (WEXCR) competitors ranging from motorcycle, ATV, and UTV racers will compete at this year’s John Penton GNCC and the Powerline Park GNCC in Ohio. WEXCR’s roots are situated in the hotbed of offroad racing, which makes their events accessible to a large amount of racers. “Regional racing organizations are the backbone of GNCC Racing,” Event Director Tim Cotter says. “We are honored that these three organizations are willing to share their racers with us, and we hope that these relationships will continue to grow throughout the years.”

FAN RULES RESPONSIBILITY: GNCC Racing, like all motorsports, can be dangerous. Due to the nature of GNCC Racing, which utilizes an opencourse, “cross-country” race circuit, there is no fence or barrier around the course. It is your responsibility to keep yourself and your children a safe distance from the course. Spectators are cautioned to never turn their backs to oncoming racers. COURSE REGULATIONS: The racing course is off-limits to fans. Only registered racers and authorized personnel are permitted on the course. You may cross the course only when you have determined that it is safe to do so. Special care must be taken when viewing events in hightraffic areas on the course and in the paddock and staging areas. RELEASE OF LIABILITY: All persons entering the premises must sign the liability-release waiver. Parents or legal guardians with children under 18 years of age must be present to sign liability-release waivers on behalf of accompanying minors. PIT VEHICLES/PIT RIDING: No pit bikes, quads, scooters, golf carts, etc. are allowed. PETS: All pets must be on leashes. No vicious or barking pets are permitted. Please clean up after your pet. ACCESS: For security purposes, all spectator gates are closed daily from midnight to 6:00 a.m. Please plan accordingly. als. Violators will be prosecuted for theft and trespassing. SEARCH POLICY: All vehicles are subject to search. No fireworks, firearms, or other contraband are allowed at GNCC events. Event organizers are not responsible for the safe return of any confiscated contraband. TICKETS: You must wear your wristband or credential at all times. If you leave the facility, you must have your wristband or credential on in order to reenter the property. Please do not remove wristbands while attending events. PIT CREWS: Riders are responsible for all crew members, family members, and guests. TRASH: Please use the provided trash receptacles. Trash bags are available at the front gate. CAMPFIRES: Only small (20”), self-contained campfires are permitted, unless a fire ban has been placed. If a ban is in effect, a notice will be posted at the front gate. SLEEP SAFE POLICY: If you are staying overnight in an RV or vehicle, or if you are using a generator, you need to be aware of the dangers of carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. CO is a poisonous, colorless, odorless, and tasteless gas that can be released when burning gasoline, kerosene, oil, propane, or wood. Mind your vehicle and generator exhaust while in close proximity to your family and neighbors. Do not place your generator directly under a slideout or under your vehicle where the fumes can seep into the camper. Make sure all exhaust fumes are properly and
fully vented so that they do not become trapped or seep into your sleeping quarters. When sleeping in a van, car, or truck, make sure the exhaust is unobstructed if you run the engine for heat. Even when sleeping outdoors under the stars, make sure you are not too close to an exhaust outlet. Devastating consequences can result without proper ventilation. DRONES: Drones are strictly forbidden at GNCC events. If you are caught operating a drone, you will be removed from the premises. CURFEW: Quiet time is 10:00 p.m. nightly. No loud generators are allowed after this time.
