DREW’S GARAGE 1959 CADILLAC BEST AT THE SHOW BARRETTE JACKSON

59 CADILLIAC CONVERTIBLE TOTALLY REBUILD

OWNER OF ROSCOE’S CHICKEN & WAFFLES AND OWNER OF DREWS GARAGE LOOK AT THEIR LATEST CREATION A RE MODLE 1959 CADILLAC

The 1959 Cadillac sitting in Roscoe’s Chicken & Waffle owner Herb Hutson garage is a long, blue, broad-fendered beauty. This Caddy is a Vintage Americana with tailfins. Of his car collection, it’s Herb’s favorite; as far as cars go, she’s the total package. His friends marvel at his showing his collection at this years Barrett Jackson car shows “I know that sounds crazy,” he says. “But I just love seeing the people eyes when they walk up.” There’s a long process between divining what accessory is just right and polishing a finished item. It’s a lot of watching Drew getting his hands dirty dismantling, repairing, finding replacement materials, sandblasting, painting and reassembling until it’s just right. While the hunt is fun and engaging, in the end it’s just my hobby.

Even as classic Ferraris, Porsches and Mercedes hit new highs, American muscle cars lagged behind the collectibles boom for most of the recovery. Now, however, they’re roaring back to life.

ccording to Hagerty, a collectible car insurer, muscle cars are now back to their 2008 peak for the first time since the recession. The company’s “Muscle Car Index,” which tracks 15 of the top muscle car models, is up nearly 50 percent over the past year, with much of that growth coming in the second half of 2014.

WHO CAN FORGET STEVE URKEL’S BMW ISETTA Did I do that?”

shows the scene where the Isetta first appears on

It’s a safe bet that if you lived through the ’90s and

screen.

watched TV, that you’ve seen the show Family Matters. When I was growing up, I know my family sure did. Family Matters was an every Friday night affair. The whole cast and characters were great. But it was Steve Urkel who really made the show come alive. But how many of you remember Urkel’s car? Who could forget that crazy little BMW Isetta? Steve’s car was featured several times throughout the series. The car first appeared in episode 76, entitled “Driving Carl Crazy.” The episode starts with Steve being excited about getting a BMW. His uncle gave it to him as a bribe to keep him away. Steve is dying to learn how to drive to impress his wannabe girlfriend Laura. However no one will show him how to drive. Carl, Laura’s dad, reluctantly volunteers to teach Steve how to drive. All of this is going on while Carl is trying a new technique to lower his blood pressure. As with everything else that happens between Carl and Steve, it doesn’t end well. Carl’s blood pressure spikes as an overly-excited Steve backs through the garage door. The clip below
