I pray these lines find all doing well! All is great here at Incarnation Central, keeping busy but winding down slowly – we seem to be sliding into the summer mode – not as much activity. Today we hear about sheep, shepherds and “the gate.” Jesus is obviously our Shepherd – our Good Shepherd – the best! We are the sheep, and it is wonderful that we have a shepherd to follow. Sheep, however, are pretty much known as Nature’s “D” student, they are not the sharpest of tacks. - LOL
Sheep can be very pig headed (animal pun fully intended.) They are strong willed and stubborn; they also tend to make the wrong decisions when left to themselves – sound familiar?!? I’m pretty sure that is why we are referred to as sheep. We who are following Jesus are on the right track, BUT, if people are not following the Lord, I promise that they are following something or someone and it is not leading to eternal life.
Jesus calling himself the gate would have made for a great visual back at the time of Jesus, but for us who are not shepherds – it can be lost on us. You see, back in the day – sheep pens were one, very high, circular solid wall, with a rather narrow opening for the sheep to pass through. Once the sheep were inside the pen the shepherd would then stand in the doorway thus completing the circular containment. In this way he could be very sure about the safety and presence of the sheep. Jesus being “the gate” watches over and protects us.
The priests are giving you a wonderful gift this weekend – we are not preaching. This weekend our Deacons will preach – your welcome!
God Bless You!
Love, Fr. Mike

Mike.
