I pray these lines find all doing well. I am so excited we got rain, my lawn – which is incredibly small and pitiful is finally coming back to life. A gardener – I am not!!!
This weekend we hear one of my favorite Gospels, but thinking this through I guess they are all really my favorites, LOL. We hear today a wonderful Gospel that I choose to use at all of my funerals, and it is due to a friend of mine who made this Gospel come alive for me. He was battling cancer at the time and so his thoughts of mortality were at the forefront of his mind. He asked me, as his friend and priest if I knew of any place exactly where Jesus specifically speaks about our going up to Heaven when we die. When I gave him this scripture passage, he was able to relax in peace and in joy over this scripture. He became a different person, very relaxed and calm, Jesus called him home about six months later. We, family and friends, were not ready for him to leave us, BUT – he WAS ready to “go home!”
Jesus tells us specifically – do not let your hearts be troubled. This being stated by Jesus should be the, “be all and end all” of any and every worry we may have. He is telling us, do not be worried about death, everything else in our lives certainly falls short of this. This having been stated, if you are worried about anything in your life then you have not handed the situation over to Jesus yet – no better time than the present!
God Bless You!
Love, Fr. Mike

TODAY’S READINGS
First Reading: So the Twelve called together the community of the disciples and said, "It is not right for us to neglect the word of God to serve at table. Brothers, select from among you seven reputable men, filled with the Spirit and wisdom, whom we shall appoint to this task, whereas we shall devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word." (Acts 6:2-4) Psalm: Lord, let your mercy be on us, as we place our trust in you. (Ps 33) Or Alleluia.
Second Reading: You are “a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people of his own, so that you may announce the praises” of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. (1 Pt 2:9) Gospel: Jesus said to him, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you know me, then you will also know my Father.” (Jn 14:6-7)
