RS NEW MEDIA IDENTITY RS NEW MEDIA, the fully-fledged digital arm of robotandspark, based in London / Rickmansworth. RS New Media specializes in software and applications native to the UK and Europe. The brief was to carry out the existing robotandspark’s clean/quirky identity direction and make more “digital-powered”. Using the custom “space invader” icon made the identity a stronger sci-fi digital looking company.

DAIRY DAY A UK based dairy company is producing a high end cheese brand. Dairy Day simply means fresh and personalised dairy products. Altough the milk products are not really from the fresh vallies of the country, their mode of producing their products is bespoke and truly handmade. Just like products made from the rolling hills of the Tuscan region.

BK 200TH RESTAURANT FOLDER Client: Burger King. Agency: Tonic Communications. Paper Stock: Conqueror Wove Smooth 300 gsm. Burger King asked us to do a press folder and a CD containing its press information. It must communicate fun+200th restaurant+the classic flame BK graphics. The solution is to use images of its consumers eating a whopper. Paper mechanical was tricky though.

BK MURALS This is the new “have it your way” Burger King digital mural. It’s a towering 2.7m height x 8.4m length installed in the food area at the biggest mall in the world, Dubai Mall. It’s a massive print sandwiched in acrylic panels. Plus some in-store branding in future installations. Tonic pushed the idea of pop art into functional visual communication, attracting new set of customers, fun and outgoing, preaching the “have it your way message.” Lines like I cannot imagine myself without onions, I’m an extra cheese kind of guy. Putting democracy to your whopper, that’s the bottom line.

BEST PROJECT The Best Project A Graphic Art Project Commissioned by SHARJAH BIENNIAL 9 Graphic design is mostly employed by the corporate world as a tool to advertise or publicize a product. A popular perception puts the functionality of design at the forefront. Conversely, Graphic artists are mostly concerned with the aesthetics of design. They seek a practice where the result of the design process is perceived as a product in itself. The Best project aims to explore potential links between the commercial and aesthetic spheres of the design process. The starting point was to identify two commonplace visual elements from Sharjah – a construction site fence. While the construction site fence is branded with the company’s name, “Best”. Both objects had much in common, including strong visual elements. “Best” fence, both elements were able to grasp the attention of a passerby. Using the “Exquisite Corpse” technique, the project brought together two groups of graphic designers who worked collectively. The “Best” project involves 6 professional graphic designers who live and practice in the UAE. Using the same Exquisite Corpse technique, the 6 designers collectively produced 12 artworks to be exhibited during the Biennial period. The designs were displayed on “Best” construction site fences across Sharjah, using its sharp color contrast as an eye-catcher. Project Curator: Ahmed Foula Project coordinator: Khalid Mezaina

GOREBIS PROJECT Guys from Corbis visited the office and gave us some books. New stock shots they have. I got one book and thinking maybe it’s better to patch nasty drawings on each page rather than letting the book rot on the shelves. We’ll revive it and call it “The Gorebis Book.”

KOWLOON Sneaker Pimps is the worlds largest touring sneaker hip-hop lifestyle exhibition featuring over 1500 pairs of rare, limited edition, vintage, celebrity signed, artists collaborated sneakers and a collection of sneaker inspired artwork, fashion and photography. The tour also features live street art installations, live skateboarding demonstrations, street basketball competitions and live hip-hop and rock performances by some of the world’s foremost recording artists. I entered Kowloon. Iinspired by my trip to Hong Kong. It appealed to me, much of a subconscious treat. The flea market, temples, the people, everything there is so entangled. The mixture of chaos and vibrancy is such a big impact to me. WATCH THE VIDEO

RAGE Dubai design initiative robotandspark is ready to set the standards for Middle East pop culture at thejamjar with an exhibit focused on…robots! The art world has recently taken the designer toy explosion seriously with top auction house Christie’s auctioning off designer toys for substantial amounts. thejamjar hosted the Middle East’s first designer toy custom exhibition. Participating artists also was invited to submit artwork using the theme “Robots” – a small number of artworks will be selected for display and produced using various mediums – printing on canvas, laser etching on wood, plastic lenticulars etc . The exhibition plans to push boundaries not only in content but also on the techniques used to display the artwork. The aim is to exhibit a collection of one-off premium art pieces that would be at home in luxury apartments or design museums alike. WATCH THE VIDEO
